All software updates installs stall on 'configuring installation'

Hello,
I've noticed that I've been forced to manually download and install the past three updates for my computer. The 2008-007 security, RAW 2.3, and now the Safari 3.2 update. I've noticed several others with the same problems regarding the individual updates.
Is this a part of a larger problem? Is there a fix other than the manual install that I've missed?
Any help would be great. Thanks.

The same thing keeps happening to me. I will try to do what you did to install manually.
I tried three time to install and it stalled at configuring system. I closed my computer and came back an hour later and found that the computer was almost frying itself, the fan was running at 100% AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE COMPUTER WAS TO HOT TO EVEN TOUCH!!!!!
I grabbed a sock and opened it and shut it down, when I restarted it the fan started running at high again, and then about 5 minutes later it calmed down. What is the deal?
Thank for the tip.

  • Build & capture task sequence fails during software update installation

I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times already, so I hope no one minds talking about it at least one more time.  About 6 months ago I created a reference image using a build and capture task sequence within SCCM.  After discovering
there were certain updates that would kill a task sequence (because they required multiple restarts), I was able to exclude these updates from deployment so that my task sequence completed successfully.  Fast forward to today.  I'm working on updating
our reference image to include the last 6 months of updates.  Again, I'm having trouble with the task sequence failing to complete.  I have excluded all of the updates mentioned in
Microsoft KB article 2894518.  I'm able to build the image with all software updates up until 6/30/2014.  When I deploy my software group that contains updates from 7/1/2014 to 12/31/2014,
however, the task sequence fails.  I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out which update may be causing the issue, and trust me, I don't have much hair as it is.  So, here's my question to all of the experts out there.  What is the best
method of debugging this issue and finding which update may be the culprit?  The log files really are confusing, so I'm hoping there are some common codes or phrases I can search for within those files.  Any and all help is much appreciated.  Thanks...

    >   I'm working on updating our reference image to include the last 6 months of updates.
Since this is a Build & Capture task sequence and not joined to the domain, you'll need to treat it
like a workgroup computer.  Here are the big three things that usually trip things up:
    1.  Initial Management Point:  The Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step should have the SMSMP=<fqdn>
property specified, as the device won't be able to see the list of MP's in Active Directory
    2.  Content Location:  Make sure the reference machine's IP address falls within an IP Range
or Subnet ID boundary, since it can't use a AD Site boundary as a workgroup machine.
    3.  Win 7 - NTLM Fallback:  Windows 7 devices may need
hotfix KB2522623 installed (as a package/program or with offline servicing) to ensure they fall back to NTLM properly when they fail to authenticate with Kerberos.
If you have those 3 things taken care of, then you should copy all the logs off of the machine while the
error message is still being displayed, zip them, and then share them out through OneDrive or Dropbox.
    I hope that helps,

  • Deploy all software updates using SCCM task sequences

Hi, we are using System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2 and I want to include software update installation part within the OSD.
So far I tried below links but not able to make it work:

    Hi,
Please provide more information. If the task sequence failed to run, you need to check smsts.log and update logs on the client.

  • All Software Updates - Internet Explorer 11

Just to confirm, Internet Explorer 11 is not suppose to be in the list of All Software Updates ?  There are cumulative and security updates for it, but no Internet Explorer 11 installation.  (though IE 7, 8, and 9 installations are listed)
    Thanks
PS.  if we need to deploy using the offline installer, are there silent install switches for IE11 ?

After synchronizing the Software Update Point in SCCM2012 R2, looking at the wsyncmgr.log, there were only a few errors (see below), probably related to the IE11 that we're missing.  Searching for information on "The Microsoft Software

  • Several Updates Missing from "All Software Updates"

We've been using SCCM 2012 to patch our systems for a few months now and I thought everything was going smoothly until we got an audit back from out Security office about our boxes missing several patches, listed below.
So I go back to the SCCM console to check whether or not the patches were listed in the "All Software Updates" group and also the custom Software Update Group that I was deploying to the systems.  And to my surprise, none of the updates were
listed.  The only Software Update Point Classifications we have
not enabled are Tools, the rest are enabled. I've also verified that the Software Update Point Products have Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, R2, 2012, and 2012 R2 which encompass the OS of the servers that were found to be deficient.
Why are these updates not listed in SCCM?
How can we ensure they get listed in SCCM and applied to our servers?
How can we prevent this from happening in the future?
2750841: An IPv6 readiness update is available
2775511: An enterprise hotfix rollup is available

    HOTFIX : RDS-based applications crash in Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x64)

    Hi,
I can't say I have checked all of the updates that you post here but the ones I did check and I normally deploy as well are not published in Windows Update and that is why you don't see them i either WSUS och Configuration Manager. They are Hotfixes and
not updates that are published there. So you need to download them and either import them using SCUP or deploy them using normal Software Distribution.

  • E63 Software updater fails to start, configuration...

When I try to run the Nokia software update, I get this cryptic message:
    Shutting down the application
    Configuration error
Nokia Software Updater has detected a configuration error. For more help, click here.
Clicking for help leads to a generic page that is essentially no help.
    Anyone seen this before?
I am running Windows XP Pro on a decently equipped machine.
(I'd attach a screenshot, but I can't figure out how to do that on this editor.)

    I have PC suite 7.1.40.1
I do not have Ovi Suite.
In order to do the update, I am using a stand alone update from Nokia called Nokia Software Updater v 2.4.1en-us. I got this application by going to Nokiausa.com and selecting my phone model and downloading the updater they indicate for my phone.
PC Suite does have an "update software" button, but all this button does is start the stand alone updater, which gives the aforementioned "configuration error."

  • Last night, mail suddenly lost all my emails, which were stored in mailboxes.  What happened and how can I find my lost files?  I have the latest MacBookPro, running Lion 10.7.2 all software updates installed

Last night the mail application from Apple lost all my old emails, which were stored in mailboxes, neatly sorted by category.  What happened and how do I find them?
Details:  I shut down mail to run errands outside my office.  My late model MacBook Pro was on "sleep".  When I returned, I opened the application, and (RATS!) all the mailboxes were missing.  They just evaporated.
Operating system:  10.7.2 - all software updates installed and current as of 24 hours ago (12-30-11, 6 AM EST).
ln the mail program, the trash folder is OK and the sent folder is OK.
Yesterday, I did no maintenance on my mail folders.
    HELP!

1 - the sudden disappearance of my 22 mailboxes, used to sort the emails that I need to file for future use
That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail.  Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently?  That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix:  usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected.  There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time.  Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before.  That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.

It is Correct for your Current OS = Leopard = 10.5.8
The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download...
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so Contact Apple in your Country to Purchase a Snow Leopard Disc...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    In the US...
    1-800-MY-APPLE or 1-800-676-2775
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • Block, Remove, Delete an Update (KB2959936, KB2932354) from "All Software Updates"

First off I do not understand updates "KB2959936, KB2932354" as they install the program "Embedded Lockdown Manager" in my Enterprise Windows 7 and 8.1.  My understanding is Embedded Lockdown Manager is only for Windows Embedded....
I would like to know if there is a way to remove an update from the "All Software Updates" as I know how to block an update from not being deployed however I use the "Schedule Updates" feature for an image and as far as I understand it
makes all updates available which leaves me having to uncheck each update that I do not want in the WIM.  Since I would never want KB2959936 & KB2932354 to install EVER I would like to remove it entirely, how can I do that.

You can't remove it. Just don't put it into a deployed software update groups.
Alternatively, what I do for updates like this is create a new folder under the All Software Updates node and move unwanted updates there (I actually create multiple folders like one for Itanium, one for Beta, one for media center, etc.).
For these updates though, even if you accidentally deploy it though, there's no risk of anything bas because they aren't applicable to anything in your environment so adding them to a deployed update group no end effect.
Yes, it will bloat your WMI a bit because its part of the catalog that gets scanned and the results added to WMI, but there's nothing you can do about that (in a supported fashion anyway).
For WIM files and scheduled updates, DISM will properly recognize these as N/A and won't add them. You can verify this by going to your OfflineServicingMgr.log.

  • Issue getting SCCM to show KB2998527 (Russia timezone patch) in all software updates

    Hello,
We are having issues getting the September 2014 Russia timezone patch to show up in SCCM all software updates list.  My colleague did make sure to change WSUS to include it and he did manually get it.  When we go into SCCM, we are unable to still
get it to show up in the list even after doing an update sync.
Please let us know how we can get this update to show up in the list as we would like to deploy it company-wide.
    Thank you.
    Justin

    No, we did not.
At this point, I would suggestion contacting CSS directly for support. They can work with you to solve this problem.

I went to VLC media, downloaded that. However the .avi movie file comes in email and I have only one option to download the movie. So I click that and the movie tries to open and I get the message that apple cannot open that type of avi movie. I try to drag it to the VCL 'drag video here' box and it does not work.
I went to mydlink and clicked on the 'set up for mac user' link and the page opens blank.
thank you for your feedback. i didn't really think i was going to get any support but you all have been so nice.
i will definitely provide more input when i make an inquiry next time.
in any event, i still cannot get it to work =(
There is also a good chance that the .avi is simply corrupt as often hapens with this format. I have often had .avis that simply will not open, no matter what program or converter you try using. It's a bummer, but being an older format, it is becoming more common.
    Good Luck

  • Software Update Installer stuck on "Configuring Installation"

Hi, I just received my Mac Pro yesterday and, of course, it needed some updates. After I downloaded some software updates and the large Combined Update for Leopard, I chose to restart the computer to let them install. As of about 45 minutes ago, the progress bar hasn't moved (approximately at a 2% position). It isn't slowly moving; rather, it's not moving at all. The window simply says "Installing 7 items" and "Configuring Installation".
I have a feeling that this is caused by the Combined Update. Is this normal, or do I have a corrupt update?
    Thank you!

    i have the same problem.
go to and delete everything in my HD/Library/Updates.
then run update again and choose only the leopard update.
best to use a cable than wireless, this is a huge file.

  • Error mess  software updates -installer could not install some files in "/"

I get this message regardless of the software update. Just started today. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, any idea how to fix. Thanks so much in advance!

There may be an error in the computer's directory, requiring a repair; some kinds
of errors or damage to the data in the hard drive are not responsive to attempts
to use the booted Disk Utility version on the OS X Installer disc #1, and while it
may be worth a try to see if that Disk Utility could at least give it a go, the usual
kinds of third party disk utilities (if this is the case, a directory error or damage)
would be along the lines of DiskWarrior, to rebuild or replace a directory.
The slashmark / usually indicates the mount point, of the internal main hard disk
drive partition used by the OS X. So, there may be other reasons why the update
installer does not appear to be working correctly or at all in this matter.
I've not seen such an error message before; but for general maintenance and
before any issues would arise, I try and do preventative maintenance; to include
startup in SafeBoot (shift key held until login screen) and then run Disk Utility to
'repair disk permissions' on Macintosh HD; then when done, note repair logs.
And restart the computer normally. {Also, I have & use Titanium Software OnyX
in its Automation mode every month or two; and choose all checkboxes. This
    is also set to automatically restart when the tasks are completed. + It is free.}
To start the computer from the Installer disc and run Disk Utility from there,
involves holding the C key on restart with the OS X install disc #1 in the
optical drive; and when in the Installer, often a second window where there
is a main Installer menu bar, there are drop-down menus from clickable words
across the top bar. Various options are there, and Disk Utility is among them.
This version of Disk Utility can be used to repair disk, repair disk permissions,
and also there are other more active tools among its utility features. This is an
installer, too; with options of several kinds. The Utility can also reformat, etc.
So be careful in what you choose to run. The repair disk and repair permissions
are both ones that may be a bit helpful, at least in the process of elimination.
If the directory is bad, a retail DiskWarrior utility may need to be purchased from
a Mac-friendly vendor; be sure that DW version covers your OS X system level.
    Good luck & happy computing!
