Alphanumerically sort Backgrounds in the Library

I am trying to export the background images of a section of my slides.  I know the background numbers of the first and last slides of the section.
However, the backgrounds are listed in lexical order, not alphanumerical order.
I need to be able to alphanumerically sort the backgrounds so I can select ALL the backgrounds (at the same time) of the section that I want to export.

Sounds like you should organise all your folders by date order and give them a descriptive name, That way you can find things far more easily. Then you should keyword the pics so you can find within entrire library.
here's a fictitious set of folders to demonstrate.

This structure as shown above is also good in that it will survive different programmes and even different OSes. Are you going to rely on Adobe, let along LR being around in 30yrs time? One should never let a programme dictate your fundamental filing structure - iPhoto, iTunes yuck, messy.
I also try and separate out differing shoots from each day as I'm hardly likely to want to look through gardening and night out shots together and it also speeds up individual folder rendering.
This specific structure is designed so it will always correctly arrange by date, do this and your problem is solved as LR simply imports your folder structure.
I've used this for a long time now and it's very robust.
Though
2008 - 02 - 17
also works as does
2008_02_17
just be consistent with what ever suits you.
I prefer using dashes to underscores, more readable and easier to type and I think this method

is stupid/useless [unless you are a computer].
I use Bridge to import from Cards [LR sucks at importing as it doesn't copy all file types] and you can set Bridge to place images in folders by date shot automatically.

  • Add ability to sort folders in the library by date (Like Picasa has)

Sometimes I just want to find a specific folder and edit pictures in it. The problem is, you don't always remember what you named that folder you need. By allowing the folders to be sorted by date, it's usually a lot easier to find the folder because you know about when it was.

  • How do I add a jpg photo into the library

I am trying to animate a layer on top of a background, I've made the background layer the first in the back but when I animate it dissapeers. I can use one of the stock backgrounds from the library and it stays in thebackground while the other gif layers work fine. I want to use my jpg photo as the background, have it remain there while the animated gif runs, any suggestions would be  greatly appreciated.

it. If you go to our site theundertoneband.com you can see I am starting to

add my pic to the library?

  • Slide Background Different from Library Background

Working in Cap 7 and I've seen a few instances of this in my current project. I am capturing web app screens.
The issue is that the screen cap image that appears on the slide in edit mode is not the same as the background image if I do a "find in library." If I play the slide, the incorrect iamge from the library is displayed.
There is some kind of corruption. If it helps, i will delete cache and/or prefs but I'd like to know what causes this issue. If the slides in edit mode are no longer WYSWIG, that's a problem.

    Hi gobaldson,
The full motion captures do not have a background in the
library. If you hide the layer with the full motion recording on
your slide, you will see that the background is white (or whatever
your Project Background Color is under Project Options). You can
see the full motion recording in the Library under the "Media"
category. In Captivate, you can't really edit the background of the
    full motion recorded parts.

  • How can I sort bookmarks within a folder by date such that this is apllied not only in the library but also on the toolbar?

    Hello,
I have several folders on my firefox toolbar which I use to sort new bookmarks by topic. If I add a new bookmark to a folder it is alwas placed at the bottom (below existing bookmarks) which is somewhat annoying with a increasing number of bookmarks. I would like to have the bookmarks recently added at the top of the folder (above existing bookmarks).
It's no problem to sort them this way within the library. But back at the toolbar everthing remains the same. The only option that seems to work here ist 'sort by name'.
Is there any way to sort the bookmarks by 'date added' such that new bookmarks are placed on top and this is applied also outside the library?
I hope you get my problem!
    Thanks!

I do not think there is a way to do that without add-ons
There are a couple of workarounds I am aware of
    * Add the bookmarks manually in the bookmarks library and choose the position. That is using Show all bookmarks -> open required folder -> select a position and right click -> add new bookmark <br />Rather a slow and clumsy process
    * Sort a folder and copy it. If you sort the folder contents then copy and paste them they remain in that order when pasted.
There are add-ons but I have not tried them. For example
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/simplesort-bookmarks/
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/
There will be others available and take note of the advice to backup bookmarks manaully.

  • How do I sort music in the iTunes library by Genre followed by Year instead of Artist Name?

I am currently using the iTunes Library to organize my music. I find that the library by default arranges music into folders by Artist Name. Is there any way to first make it arrange the music by Genre and then by Year instead of Artist Name within the folders? Since I have music in different languages and use this music in other music software as well, sorting by Genre will be extremely helpful. I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks in Advance!

Sorry, I missed part 2. Unless CS4.2 has added a true "Group" function, like in InDesign, Illustrator, etc., there is not a direct way to keep Selected Clips together. However, you can put them on their own Sequence and then Nest that Sequence with others. This is often done, so that one can apply Effects "globally" to that Nested Sequence. [Note: there is no real Group function in Titler either, but for many operations, one can Select multiple Text Blocks, Shapes, Lines, etc., but there is no way to permanently "hold" that group.]
The Alt-click in the Project Panel, for instance, will allow one to drag all to the Timeline, and the Shift-click (or lasso w/ Cursor) in the Timeline will allow one to apply certain things to that group, but the moment that any other Clip is Selected, that "group," does not exist.
I can see a use for a real Group function, but for things like the application of Effects, one would still need to do the Nesting. Test this out by Selecting just two Clips, and go to apply an Effect - you cannot do that. OTOH, one can apply an Effect to one Clip, Rt-click it and choose Copy, then Select multiple Clips and Rt-click on those, where you would Paste Attributes. Not exactly what I think you are asking about, but the results, with just a few clicks, should be the same.
If I missed your intent and need, let me know where I went wrong.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How can you sort bookmarks in the Sidebar by date added? Works in Library but does not carry over to Sidebar.

When opening the Bookmarks Sidebar, the oldest bookmarks added are at the very top, easily visible.
The most recent bookmarks added are at the bottom, requiring me to scroll all the way down every time I want to visit a recent bookmark. This is a major nuisance. I'm actually a little shocked that this happens when it's such an obvious hassle.
How can I flip the list of bookmarks so the newest ones are right at the top where I can easily access them?

  • By what methood does the iPhone sort photos in the Photo Library?

I would like to have all of our family photos get sorted chronologically in the Photo Library on the iPhone. However, much of our photos are from scans so they have the scanned time in the time stamp as opposed to when they were actually taken. If I manually put the time in iPhoto will that affect how the iPhone Photo Library sorts the photos? The iPhone doesn't appear to sort by name, so a method of renaming photos beginning with the date (YearMonthDay - 19920127) probably would not affect how the iPhone Photo Library sort them. Is there a way to do this?

OK yes Loading apps are faster...But for some reason 4 got latency and lag once in a while compared to the 3GS...its not a zippy...its wierd to explain...but theres a lot of post about it here.
Im guessing the A4 chip is not 1GHz since performance is not that big of a difference compared to the 3GS, Where as the 3GS was big improvement from the 3g and thats only less than 200MHz difference.

  • Bookmarks go directory but not the library, can't sort

I imported bookmarks from HTML file into directory. How do I get them into the library to sort? Jim

I'm not sure what you mean by importing into the directory...
In order to import the HTML file into Firefox, open the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b) and use the toolbar button "Import and Backup" to get to the Import feature. (If you are showing only icons and not icons and text, it's the star with the little green arrows on the front.) This article has the steps: [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]].
After importing, the bookmarks may be in a folder named Imported Bookmarks on your Bookmarks Menu or under Unsorted Bookmarks. You can switch between these categories in the left column of the Library dialog.
Any luck getting them into the correct locations?

  • Is there any way for additions made by one user of a shared library to be visible to the other user of the same library, without having to always "add file to library"?  This was the whole reason we consolidated the library into a public folder

My wife and I share a computer but have separate Windows ID's.  We also each have an iTunes account, using two separate Apple ID's.  We have always struggled with the headache of getting music that one of us added (via purchase, downloading CD, etc.) to the other person's music library.  A friend suggested we consolidate and share the same library.  Sounded like a good idea so we moved the libraries to a public folder, consolidated them, etc.  But now when one of us adds music to the library, the other person still has to do an "add file/folder to library" in order for them to be able to see it.  This is exactly the step we were hoping to eliminate by this consolidation.  Does anyone know if there is a way to make this happen automatically, or will we have to continue to do this every time?
Also, ended up with a lot of duplicates in the process of consolidating.  Is there any way to identify and "mass delete" these?  It will take a while to go through them all individually as the library is somewhat substantial (approx. 16k songs)
Hardware is Windows 8, one iPod classic, one iPod Nano (obviously only selected playlists on this one).  All hardware and iTunes running latest software.
    Any information would be appreciated!

It sounds like you are using two independent libraries with a common media folder, whereas the plan would have been to ensure that both profiles were using the same library library database. Although you can place this within the Public folder I would normally create a shared library at the root of a drive, e.g. at X:\iTunes where X: is the drive that you want to use. See Make a split library portable for information on moving the library around back into a standard shape.
As for duplicates, Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See thisthread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning
to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • Don't get the library structure of Aperture

I am trying to manage under a same travel project different albums sorted by country.
So I created a project (World Trip) and I started to import the picture from the first country. I have created a folder (Russia) under which I created different album all related to that country. I have then attached all the pictures in the different albums.
The end result was something like:
    World Trip (Project)
      - Russia (Folder)
        * St Petersburg (Album)
        * Moscow (Album)
I was more or less satisfied. But a bit worried that when I click on the project, the browser view is empty (no pictures nor any sub-structures like the list of folder or albums). The folder Russia contained all pictures I had imported from Russia, although before I put them in the albums, they were in the project not the folder. And in the albums I had just the pictures I wanted to see.
My next step was to import the pictures from the next country. So I launched the import of the Mongolian pictures, I have imported them inside the existing project, but I don't see them where I would expect them: under the project.
If you look at the screenshot above. Under the Travelling section, if I click Projects, in the browser view I see my only project and when mouse-hovering it I can see pictures from Russia and Mongolia. But if I double click on this project, the view is empty.
Now if I choose Photos in the Library view, I can see all the photos, cool. The same is true if I click under the Recent section on my project World Trip, there I see all the Russian and Mongolian pictures, which is cool but inconsistent with the other views of my project.
Finally, under the Projects section, when I select the World Trip, it is empty, when I select Russia, it contains only the Russian picture, but I see nowhere the Mongolian pictures, even though I imported them in my World Trip project.
I really don't get it. Even after reading the Aperture manual, it did not explain the behaviour I'm seeing.
If someone could explain me better what are projects and folders, and especially what is a folder within a project and vice versa.
Also, if you know how I could arrange (better) my photos? I would like to have all the pictures sorted by country, but within one main top structure. And under each country, I would have different albums, with subset of pictures, and sometimes pictures could be in more than one albums. How should I structure my library then?
    I'm using Aperture 3.4.1.

IMO organizational structures that over-use Folders are what I call Folder-think or film-think, and should be avoided in favor of database-think. Try to use keywords and Albums as much as possible in your organizing in lieu of folders. A country, for instance, should simply be a keyword applied to all pix from that country; not a folder.
Organize into Projects first and import one Project at a time; it should only take a couple of minutes to import each Project. Larger Project sizes can slow some computers. Personally I set 500 as my arbitrary maximum number of images in each Project but your mileage will vary. Experiment to see what number of maximum images in a Project may or may not slow your particular setup/workflow down; my guess is that 500-image projects will be fine unless maybe you are shooting a D800 or if there are scan files involved.
    Before importing one should:
    • Back up the originals before importing into Aperture. This is an absolutely essential step to a safe workflow.
    • Decide what keywords to batch-apply to each Project.
From an earlier post of mine on this topic:
Projects should be just that: individual-shoot (i.e. time) based projects rather than some kind of organizing tool for all the architectural photos or whatever. For performance reasons personally I keep each Project under 500 20-MB images, making a second Project if the shoot is large. E.g.
    110829_KJones_Wed_A,
    110829_KJones_Wed_B,
    110829_KJones_Wed_C, etc.
One or more albums will always organize the KJones wedding pix together anyway. All three Projects (110829_KJones_Wed_A, 110829_KJones_Wed_B, 110829_KJones_Wed_C) would have the keyword "KJones_Wed" applied to each pic, which allows an Album "KJones_Wed" to be quickly created at any time.
The way I look at it conceptually:
Aperture is a database (DB), and each image file lives in one and only one Project.
Albums are just collections of Pointers that point to individual image files living in one or more Projects. Since they just contain pointers, albums can be created or deleted at will without affecting image files. Very powerful. And Albums of pointers take up almost zero space, so they are fast and do not make the Library size grow.
Keywords can be applied to every image separately or in batches. Keywords are hugely powerful and largely obviate the need for folders. Not that we should never use folders, just that we should use folders only when useful organizationally - - after first determining that using keywords and albums is not a better approach. Most of the time folders are inappropriately used.
As one example imagine the keyword "flowers."  Every image of a 100,000 images Library that has some flowers in it has the keyword flowers. Then say we want to put flowers in an ad, or as background for a show of some kind, or to print pix for a party, or even just to look for an image for some other reason. We can find every flower image in a 100k-image database in 2 seconds, and in another few seconds create an Album called "Flowers" that points to all of those individual images.
Another example is a european train trip. It may be one Project but spans multiple countries in a few hours. No problem, just keyword each pic with the appropriate country and create an album for each country; or another album for some combination of countries (e.g. "Baltic," "Scandinavian," etc.).
Similarly all family pix can have a keyword "family" and all work pix can have a key word "work." Each individual pic may have any number of keywords. Such pic characteristics (work, family, flowers, country, etc.) should not be organized via folders.
So by using keywords and albums we can have instant access to every image everywhere, very cool. And keywords and albums essentially take up no space in the database.
Another (IMO poor) approach would be to use a folder "Family" for family pix, a folder "Flowers" for flowers pix and another folder "Work" for work pix. IMO such folders usage is a very poor approach to using an images database (probably stemming from old paper or film work practices). Note that one cannot put an image with family in a field of flowers at a work picnic in all three folders; but it is easy using keywords.
As an aside note that empirically many users find that even though the Aperture DB can contain hundreds of thousands of image files, no problem, individual Projects should be limited in size for speed reasons. Personally I limit Projects to a maximum of ~400 to ~500 RAW NEF files, but hardware and workflows vary.
