Altering The Global Temporary Table

I had created a temporary table but did not initially specically tells what to do when commiting a transaction.
CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE APP_CONTROL_MENU_TEMP
(...)I need to alter the table to add this option "ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS".

Hi,
You cannot specify ON COMMIT clause whenever ALTER TABLE, but whenever onCREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/statements_73a.htm#2159530
Ig you haven't the DDL for recreate table you can use dbms_metadata.get_ddl function :
SQL> set long 100000
SQL> select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE','TT2') from dual;
DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLE','TT2')
  CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE "SCOTT"."TT2"
   (    "EMPNO" NUMBER(4,0),
        "ENAME" VARCHAR2(10),
        "JOB" VARCHAR2(9),
        "MGR" NUMBER(4,0),
        "HIREDATE" DATE,
        "SAL" NUMBER(7,2),
        "COMM" NUMBER(7,2),
        "DEPTNO" NUMBER(2,0)
   )  ON COMMIT DELETE ROWSAfter what you can recreate your table with the clause well. You will not loss data... by definition, this is a temporary table...

  • How we cn avoid the sequence in remote tables through global temporary tabl

    Hi,
    We have table xx_interface_qualifiers in the remote db and we are inserting the data like this and its on a loop

    We are trying to avoid the hitting of the database every time for a sequence and try to implement the global temporary tables,i mean to say 1st we need to insert the data to TEMP table and then from temp table we cn inseert all the data to xx_interface_qual in a single shot to improve the performance.
    But how we cn avoid the sequence in this case as we do not know the sequence in remote side.
    Please suggest any other way to improve the performance.

    You have an unknown performance problem (that you claim is due to a sequence, but failed to provide any evidence for). Now you want to create more I/O, by writing the data twice. Once into a temp table and then again into the destination table. And do that in order to increase performance?
    I do not see how this can solve the underlying, and unknown, performance issue that you claim exists.
    Any problem solution needs to start with correctly and comprehensively identifying the problem.
    You cannot solve a problem without first knowing WHAT the problem is.

  • Use of global temporary tables in Procedures

    Hi
    I am using global temporary tables in the procedures. Loading data in the same table through many procedures. I am fetching the data from the global temporary table in PRO-C by a cursor. Will this degrade performance?
    Please help me..
    Thanks in Advance...

    Will this degrade performance?That depends... in comparison to what?
    Loading data into temporary tables will generally be more efficient than loading data into permanent tables because Oracle needs to do less to protect this data since it is inherently transient. On the other hand, loading the data into a table in the first place tends to be more expensive than alternatives like using a single SQL statement, a pipelined table function, or an in memory collection.

  • How can i create a Global Temporary Table inside a Stored Procedure....

    Hi...
    I need to create a Global Temporary Table inside a Stored
    Procedure....
    I have no idea how to do that....
    Please....if u can send me a sample, send to me....
    Thanks a lot

    To create a global temporary table inside a stored procedure,
    the minimal syntax would be:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE procedure_name
    AS
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE table_name'
    || '(column_name NUMBER)';
    END procedure_name;
    As Todd stated, it would probably be better to create the global
    temporary table outside of the procedure:
    SQL> CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE table_name
    2 (column_name NUMBER);
    Table created.
    You can also specify things like ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS or ON
    COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
    It may be that there is something else, like a PL/SQL table of
    records or a cursor, that would suit your needs better. It is
    difficult to guess without knowing what you want to do with it.

  • Creating a Global Temporary Table on non-default TEMP tablespace.

    Hello ,
    I am using Oracle 11g.
    I have a procedure which create global temporary tables for its functionality. As the data which is going in the global temporary table , mean the data which is going in the default TEMP tablesapce is too huge ..... billions of rows..
    So what i want to do is , I want to create the global temporary table in another TEMP2 tablespace ( which is not the default one) so the load of billions of rows of data will be shifted to TEMP2. The default TEMP tablespace will not be affected and it can be used for other transactions.
    Is this possible. Can i shift the global temporary table from TEMP( Default temp tablespace) to TEMP2 ( the non-default temp tablespace) ????
    Please guide me with proper solutions and examples ....
    Thanks in advance ..

    Global temporary tables are instantiated in the temporary tablespace of the schema that inserts the data - not into "the default" temporary tablespace.
    Assume Schema1 creates a GTT and grants all on that table to schema2
    Assume schema1 also creates a procedure (authid owner, the default) to insert data into the GTT and grants execute on the procedure to schema2
    If schema2 executes: insert into schema1.gtt, the data will appear in the temporary tablespace of schema2
    If schema2 executes: execute schema1.procedure, the data will appear in the temporary tablespace of schema1
    So if you want to protect the "normal" temporary tablespace, you could just create a special temporary tablespace for the owner of the procedure.

  • Transaction with Global Temporary Table

    Problem:
    Transaction starts with few DML statements and in the middle we are calling a JAVA method which creates the dynamic global temporary table and proceeding with few DML statements, if one of the statement fails, in the exception clause we are trying to rollback and transactions after the DDL (create global temp table) are rolled back and transactions before the DDL (create global temp table) are committed.
    We cannot pre-create the global temporary table, since we do not know the number of temp table to be pre-created.
    How we can resolve this issue? The same concept works for SQL server.
    Example of our issue:
    --drop table table1 purge;
    --drop table t_id purge;
    Create table table1 (col1 number, col2 varchar2(20));
    Insert into table1 values (1, 'Test1');
    Create global temporary table t_id (id number);
    Insert into table1 values (2, 'Test2');
    Rollback;
    After the rollback you can see only the 'Test1' record.

    > We cannot pre-create the global temporary table, since we do not know the number of temp table to be pre-created.
    I don't see how one procedure could need to create an unknown number of temporary tables. Do they all have different (and unknown) column lists? Couldn't you combine them into a single table with a key to distinguish betweeen the different sets of rows?

  • Are global temporary tables in Oracle 10.2 behaving differently?

    My procedure is creating and inserting data into a Global Temporary Table (on commit data is preserved). I am running this procedure in two different environments.
    The first environment is running under Oracle 10.2 and after the procedure runs successfully I can not see any data inserted in the GTT.
    When I run the very same procedure in the second environment which runs under Oracle 9.2, it works fine, runs successfully and I can see all rows inserted in the GTT.
    Can someone explain this? What should I do differently in the Oracle 10.2? Any thoughts?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
    The following TEMPORARY table is created with the attribute, ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS. This allows an application to load registration entries into the global temporary table and manipulate that data with SQL statements. The data is deleted upon each commit with the clause ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE student_reg_entries
    student_name VARCHAR2(30),
    reg_entries reg_entry_varray_type
    ) ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;
    Replace ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS with ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS to retain temporary table data throughout the database session, regardless of any commits made during that session.
    The following illustrates a PL/SQL block that populates this temporary table with two classes each for two students. It makes no difference how many other applications are currently using this temporary global table for similar purposes. For the code below, two rows are inserted, then a COMMIT, after which a SELECT shows that the table is empty.
    DECLARE
    classes_to_take reg_entry_varray_type :=
    reg_entry_varray_type();
    BEGIN
    classes_to_take := reg_entry_varray_type(
    reg_entry('CS101', 'C' ),
    reg_entry('HST310', 'C' ));
    INSERT INTO student_reg_entries VALUES
    ('John', classes_to_take);
    classes_to_take := reg_entry_varray_type(
    reg_entry('ENG102', 'C' ),
    reg_entry('BIO201', 'C' ));
    INSERT INTO student_reg_entries VALUES
    ('Mary', classes_to_take);
    END;
    This next SELECT returns two rows:
    SQL> SELECT * FROM student_reg_entries;
    Row 1:
    John
    REG_ENTRY_VARRAY_TYPE
    (REG_ENTRY('CS101','C'), REG_ENTRY('HST310','C'))
    Row 2:
    Mary
    REG_ENTRY_VARRAY_TYPE
    (REG_ENTRY('ENG102','C'), REG_ENTRY('BIO201','C'))
    A COMMIT automatically deletes rows making the table available for the next session transaction.
    SQL> COMMIT;
    SQL> SELECT * from student_reg_entries;
    no rows selected

  • DDL time changes on commit of Global temporary table

    Hi,
    I have created a global temporary table with on commit delete rows.
    Whenever I execute commit command the DDL time of the global temporary table changes.

  • Problem ! Calling report6 from forms6(run_product()) using global temporary table.

    Requirement :
    To generate stock movement report for certain selected items.
    Background :
    A Form is created with data block (tmp_item_master - a global temporary table)
    when_new_form_instance :
    inserting into tmp_item_master from item_master and then execute_query on tmp_item_master block.
    User selects certain items using check box provided.
    Now tmp_item_master is updated for ch_select_flag_yn = 'Y' for selected items
    and commit.
    Calling report from form(using run_product()).
    Now the main query in report, is joined with tmp_item_master where ch_select_flag_yn = 'Y'
    Here, we are unable to see the report for any item. As the global temporary table data is not visible in the report session.
    How to resolve this problem ?
    Note : global temporary table created with ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS
    Thanking you,
    From praful.

    Hi,
    You are using 'ON Commit Delete Rows' . Instead of Use ' ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS'
    The ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS clause indicates that the data should be deleted at the end of the transaction.
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE my_temp_table (
    column1 NUMBER,
    column2 NUMBER
    ) ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;
    In contrast, the ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS clause indicates that rows should be preserved until the end of the session.
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE my_temp_table (
    column1 NUMBER,
    column2 NUMBER
    ) ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS;

  • Inserts into Global Temporary Table

    I'm working on using a global temporary table in one of my apps. I have a small test run here to isolate the problem. It simply creates the global temporary table, inserts a row, commits and then does a select to see if the insert worked. No data shows in the table when running this. I don't know much about global temp tables, so any help would be appreciated.
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE AGENT_SILO.AS_TEMP_VALIDATE (
    SBI_EMPLOYEE_ID NUMBER,
    CURRENT_FLAG char(1),
    EFFECTIVE_START date,
    EFFECTIVE_END date
    ) ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;
    INSERT INTO AGENT_SILO.AS_TEMP_VALIDATE(SBI_EMPLOYEE_ID, CURRENT_FLAG, EFFECTIVE_START, EFFECTIVE_END)
    VALUES(0, '', SYSDATE, SYSDATE);
    commit;
    SELECT * FROM AGENT_SILO.AS_TEMP_VALIDATE;

    So I wonder what else I'm doing wrong that's really obvious. Here's what i'm trying to accomplish and maybe there's a better way of going about it.
    I have a trigger that is supposed to do some validation before the insert is allowed to go through. So here's my approach. I have a trigger fired when there's an insert into the AS_Employee_history table. This passes some of the fields from this insert into a proc (the id, a flag and a couple of dates). Within the proc, i create a global temp table, insert these passed values into the temp table. Then I have a cursor to basically copy the rows from the as_employee_history table that have the same id. Then I can do some selects on the temp table to see if it passes the validation.
    I have outputs throughout for debugging and it gets to right after the inserts into the temp table, then the rest of the code doesn't appear to be executed. So it looks like it's failing at the execution of select statements on the temp table. Anything else obvious that I"m missing here?
    Here's my proc.
    PROCEDURE "PAS_VALIDATE" (STATUS OUT VARCHAR2, v_status OUT BOOLEAN, NEW_SBI_EMPLOYEE_ID IN NUMBER,
    NEW_CURRENT_FLAG IN CHAR, NEW_EFFECTIVE_START IN DATE,
    NEW_EFFECTIVE_END IN DATE)

  • Using Global Temporary Table in Discoverer.

    Hi All
    I am currently working on a Disco report, where I am initializing a package at the disco condition level which inserts data in to a Global Temporary Table.
    The global temporary table will be having data based on the parameter entered by the user. But the problem occurs when we are trying to use the same GTT in the select statement as shown below. The desktop is not giving me the otuput but the GTT is getting populated with data.
    see below
    SELECT bla1,
    bla2,
    bla3
    FROM GTT (global temp table)
    WHERE 1= PACKAGE.FUNCTION(par1, par2, par3...) <- here we are trying to insert into GTT based on the paramenters passed.
    Can you please suggest how this can be achieved. Or is there any way to trigger the insertion in to GTT other than the calling it in the condition level.
    Thanks
    Arun

    Hi,
    You cannot use a GTT like this because you cannot write and read from the GTT using a single SQL statement. You must either have the insert in a separate worksheet and tell the users to run this worksheet first, or you wrap it all up in a table function called from within a view. The table function can then insert and select from the GTT using two statements.
    Which method is best depends on what you are trying to do and why you want to use a GTT.

  • Auditing data from global temporary table

    Hi I have a process that uses a global temporary table.
    What it does it serve a consolidation point to merge a lot of data.
    Some the former designer decides to use a global temporary table and the row will be gone once it got commit.
    However, the data is corrupted occasionally. And ideally we would like to fix the upstream source data but this is too complicated and not feasible.
    So we decide to audit the data going into the global temporary table. We want to generate a report on the corrupted data.
    However, whenever I commit, the data is gone from the global temporary table and we do not want to set it to commit preserve rows for the global temporary table
    Even with autonomous transaction this is not working out as once it commits the data is gone.
    Any idea how this can be done. Here are the prototype that I build to demo this:
    drop table gt_tst1;
    --this is the table its data needs to get audit
    create global temporary table gt_tst1(id number); --on commit preserve rows;
    drop table not_gt_tst1;
    --this table is used for storign the corrupt data and generate report
    create table not_gt_tst1 as select * from gt_tst1;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE tst_gt_tst1 IS
    PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION;
    BEGIN
    --if there is a way to do the insert and select once. but it seems it is not working for global temporay table unless change it to on commit preserve rows
      INSERT
      when m2 = 0 THEN
      INTO not_gt_tst1(id)values(object_id)
      when m3 = 0 THEN
      INTO gt_tst1(id) values (object_id)
      select object_id,mod(object_id,2) m2, mod(object_id,3) m3 from dba_objects where rownum < 101;
      COMMIT;
    END tst_gt_tst1;
    select sysdate from dual;
    truncate table gt_tst1;
    truncate table not_gt_tst1;
    select * from gt_tst1;
    select * from not_gt_tst1;
    execute tst_gt_tst1;
    select * from gt_tst1; -- data gone
    select * from not_gt_tst1;
    --commit
    select sysdate from dual;
    spool off

    The data is poor and the code is poor and the dev and QA env is also poor..
    And the business asks us to fix the data..However..we do not have an environment close enough to test it out before it got put into production that is the bottom line.
    Heres the dev and QA env cannot be trust to the extent that I can sign off and say it will give the same behavior as the production env
    So we would like to minimize the risk as there are other process uses these table and we are not sure if changing this would lead to UN-expected behavior.
    We cannot tell some other process rely on the fact that these table got empty out after commit.

  • Global Temporary table in Forms

    I have two forms A and B, I call form B from form A using [FND_FUNCTION.EXECUTE] with [SESSION_FLAG] parameter = 'NO_SESSION' nd [PEN_FLAG] parameter = 'Y, I insert records in database procedure called in form B and display the records in form B and the records are displayed perfectly but when i return to form A using [APP_CUSTOM.CLOSE_WINDOW] I wasn't able to access the records.
    I have created the global temporary table with option [ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS] but i can't perform a [COMMIT] command because i have transactions in form A that i don't want to save.
    I should access the records in the global temporary table since i am still in the same session but i can't.

  • Problem with global temporary table with rows

    Scenario :
    I need to create a table for generating a report in a oracle 10g database. Data population in the table depends on the parameter passed from front end.
    I have created global temporay table to achieve this. But use of same table by another user is not possible.
    I have created the global temporary table as follows:
    ''Create global temporay table xyz (a varchar2(10),b varchar2(10)) on commit preserve rows''

    You have not posted much details.
    But yes, global temporary tables are session specific. So other session won't see anything.

    Hi,
    You can't execute DDL directly in PL/SQL, it's not supported.
    You can, however, use Native Dynamic SQL to do this in the following manner:
    begin
       execute immediate 'create table t(x int)';
    end;You will need to use the autonomous_transaction pragma to maintain transactional integrity.
    But you may want to think about WHY you are doing this in a SP. You should probably just create the global temporary table as a permanent database object. It's refreshed on commit anyway -- I think you're missing the point slightly.
