Alternative for Open , Fetch cursor command
Hi Experts,
I am populating data from glpca table using Open Cursor statement with hold as shown below:
OPEN CURSOR WITH HOLD cur1 FOR
Select data from the purchase order header table.
SELECT runit rprctr sprctr
racct rfarea hsl msl kostl aufnr ps_psp_pnr
FROM glpca
WHERE docnr IN s_docnr
AND rbukrs = p_rbukrs
AND rprctr IN s_rprctr
AND sprctr IN s_sprctr
AND rfarea IN s_rfarea
AND budat IN s_budat
AND kostl IN s_kostl
AND aufnr IN s_aufnr.
Now when i try to Fetch the cursor even restricting it with PACKAGE SIZE command ( value 998), my program get struck over here for 20-30 mins or more den that & session gets out for the user at client end coz of large data. I checked the value of cursor , it was around 670-700 approx.
The query is shown below:
DO.
fetch rows from cursor depending on package size
FETCH NEXT CURSOR cur1 INTO TABLE t_glpca
PACKAGE SIZE p_size.
IF sy-subrc NE 0.
CLOSE CURSOR cur1.
EXIT.
ENDIF.
The program get struck at above fetch next cursor command.
Kindly suggest me some other way to handle or populate the data or any alternative for Cursor command.
Thanks for your consideration.
Regards
Mudit

Sorry for hijacking this thread and asking here. I am here in the forums on daily basis just reading and learning.
This got me curious and I googled and read SAP tutorial about cursors:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/fc/eb3b23358411d1829f0000e829fbfe/content.htm
also read an answer from Thomas after searching forum:
The combination with OPEN CURSOR ... WITH HOLD allows package processing of tasks that require a database commit inside the loop. A normal SELECT loop without holding the cursor would be interrupted by a commit -> short dump.
MY TWO QUESTIONs
1. In SAP tutorial it states that
"WITH HOLD addition in the OPEN CURSOR statement allows you to prevent a cursor from being closed when a database commit occurs in Native SQL"
If I don't specify any commit statements in my abap code and user cursor without the addition with hold.
Can a commit be executed anyway and I get an unwanted commit and thus an unwanted close of my cursor?
Or do they mean that "if you specify commit in native sql"?
2. Thomas says a normal select loop without the cursor holding would be interrupted. Interrupted by who? Again, it seems like there is an "unwanted" commit here? Again, can there be any commits and unwanted interrupts if I dont specify it somewhere in my code?

Baran

How to specify default folder for Open... command
In apps (say Illustrator, for example) when I do an Open... command, I'm always dumped into the root folder of the hard drive. Is there a way to specify "last folder used" as the default?
I seem to remember a way to set this as a default, but I could be wrong. Many thanks!not without manual refactoring, and changing the composite's component impls

How to trigger n number of jobs by processing using fetch cursor.
We have report which retrieves all the data from the master table using the open fetch cursor with the packet size 10,000
FOR EXAMPLE:
If there are 50,000 records(total)
For each 10,000 records it should trigger a job (we are trying to call a common program and submit the program in background through the main program ) were all the validation will be done only through the program
Totally we are expecting 5 job's to be trieggered.
Purpose : we want all the records validation to be completed Simultaneously with fraction of difference.Hi,
You might need to rethink on your scenario.
Where are the values for Vendor Region are getting stored for a PO? You might not be able to handle N number of Vendor regions for N number of Plants....You actually have to come to a 1:1 mapping. -

Is there a different way to open a cursor for a ref cursor procedure?
hello everybody
i have two cursors, cur_a and cur_b, declared somewhere else in my application.
These two cursors have the same fields, in the same order, and i have to treat both in the same way. So i wrote a routine that gets as input a ref cursor based on the cur_a rowtype, and i am trying to use this routine for both.
The problem is that i am not able to open outside the routine the cursor in a different way than usual...
the common method is :
declare curs ref cursor ...
begin
open curs for (select *...)
end;
instead i would like to obtain something different
declare curs ref cursor ...
begin
open curs for cur_a
end;hi
thanks for answering
i wanted just to give a better idea, anyway you were near to get it.
the only difference is that the two cursors are not written in dynamic sql, just like strings, but are real cursors.
anyway, this is the version of the package i need, but i am not able to compile
(your original code is commented and immediately below there is my code)
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY mytest
IS
--cur_a VARCHAR2(200) := 'SELECT dummy FROM DUAL';
CURSOR cur_a
IS
SELECT dummy
FROM DUAL;
--cur_b VARCHAR2(200) := 'SELECT ''fred'' FROM DUAL';
CURSOR cur_b
IS
SELECT 'fred' fred
FROM DUAL;
TYPE t_cur_a IS REF CURSOR
RETURN cur_a%ROWTYPE
--PROCEDURE routine_a_b (p_cur SYS_REFCURSOR) IS
PROCEDURE routine_a_b (p_cur t_cur_a)
IS
v_x VARCHAR2 (10);
BEGIN
LOOP
FETCH p_cur
INTO v_x;
EXIT WHEN p_cur%NOTFOUND;
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line (v_x);
END LOOP;
END;
PROCEDURE doit
IS
--v_curs SYS_REFCURSOR;
v_curs t_cur_a;
BEGIN
NULL;
-- open v_curs FOR cur_a;
OPEN v_curs FOR cur_a;
routine_a_b (v_curs);
CLOSE v_curs;
-- open v_curs FOR cur_b;
-- routine_a_b(v_curs);
-- close v_curs;
END;
END;
the error is:
cursor 'V_CURS' cannot be used in dynamic SQL OPEN statement
i did read that if use weak ref cursor, it could work, so i declare the ref cursor type in this way:
TYPE t_cur_a IS REF CURSOR;
instead than
TYPE t_cur_a IS REF CURSOR
RETURN cur_a%ROWTYPE
what i get is another error (in the open cursor command)
PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type....
but if i replace
OPEN v_curs FOR cur_a;
with
OPEN v_curs for select dummy from dual;
it works... but i already knew it.. :-)
anyway, i used a work around to resolve it, so it's just philosophy -
Alternative for EXEC command(Native SQL)
Hi Friends,
While Using the EXEC command in native sql it is showing the obselete Error , Can any one help with giving the alternative for the commands for native SQl.
ImmediateIn a Native SQL statement, data is passed between the ABAP program and the database using host variables. A host variable is an ABAP variable that is identified as such in the Native SQL statement by a preceding colon (:).
Example
Displaying an extract from the table AVERI_CLNT:
DATA: F1(3), F2(3), F3(3).
F3 = ' 1 '.
EXEC SQL.
SELECT CLIENT, ARG1 INTO :F1, :F2 FROM AVERI_CLNT
WHERE ARG2 = :F3
ENDEXEC.
WRITE: / F1, F2.
To simplify the form of the INTO lists in the SELECT statement, you can, as in Open SQL, specify a single structure as the target area.
Example
Displaying an Extract from the Table AVERI_CLNT:
DATA: BEGIN OF WA,
CLIENT(3), ARG1(3), ARG2(3),
END OF WA.
DATA F3(3).
F3 = ' 1 '.
EXEC SQL.
SELECT CLIENT, ARG1 INTO :WA FROM AVERI_CLNT
WHERE ARG2 = :F3
ENDEXEC.
WRITE: / WA-CLIENT, WA-ARG1.
Native SQL supports the directly-executable commands of your underlying database system. There are other special commands that you can use after the EXEC SQL statement for cursor handling, stored procedures (procedures stored in the database), and connections to other databases.

Alternative for Cursor in SQL Server 2012
Hi all,
I keen to know Alternative for Cursor in SQL Server 2012. Why everyone telling Cursor have performance impact. Any other alternative for row by row comparison like Array in SQL 2012 ?
ThanksIt is not the cursor that kills you - it is the loop as such. I've seen more than one example of a poor man's cursor, where they have selected TOP 1 from a #temp ORDER BY, and several operations on the temp table - which is completely void of indexes,
making the operations for the loop control the slowest in the batch. So you use cursor when you need to iterate.
But in many cases, you should work and think set-based instead.

Alternative for "Commode" parameter in Host command
Dear Buddies
As we use "Commode" parameter to run report (using Run Product built-in), so can we use it in "Host ifrun60" command too to run our reports in "Asynchronous" communication mode?? I've tried this in my Host command like this
.....commode=asynchronous....
Or is there any alternative for this parameter to use in Host command?Host built in is used to invoke any executable from forms. It can be used to invoke calc , word or any exe
I dont think its a good idea to use host built since you will not get the status.
Use run_product or run_report_object

"FOR REC IN CURSOR(PARAMETERS) LOOP" command does not work. Why?
Hi to all.
It's a pleasure to receive your help.
In "FOR REC IN CURSOR(PARAMETERS) LOOP" command although the query return value does not enter the loop.
Sounds simple, but I'm not seeing the flaw...
Suggestions?

What are alternatives for passing DB credentials to rwrun/rwclient command line instead of USERID parameter?

I am looking for alternatives which I can use?
Please help.

Gaurav AnandIf you want a database username/password for every user that runs a report, you need to include un/pw in the command.
An option that you see quite often is that Reports use a general database user to run any report. In that case you can include the un/pw of this special user in the Key Map File:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_run013.htm#RSPUB23557
Of course, in that case you need an application in front of the call to the report to check if the user is allowed to run the report. This is how most web applications work anyway: there is one database user, and application users are maintained in the application itself.
Or you can use single sign on:

What is the "Open in Timeline" command used for?
If you select a clip in the Event browsers and select the "Open in Timeline" menu command the clip opens in it's own Timeline. However, I have know idea what this is used for. I searched FCP X help for "Open in Timeline" and got no hits. I search the Internet too but only got hits warning about edits done in this Timeline will destroy the original media (ouch!, what about non destructive). Can anyone give me some help on what this command is used for or point me to somewhere that does describe this command in detail?
ThanksGenerally speaking, I'd say using compound clips in the Event Browser is not usually the best way to go, unless you are using them for video/audio sync purposes. However, they certainly can be helpful for certain workflows as long as you understand the plusses/minuses.
To create an empty compound clip, select the event and do the "Create New Compound Clip" command (command-G). An empty compound clip is a compound clip you can subsequently paste things into -- to do that, you would select the clip and do the "Open in Timeline" command. I suppose this would let you reuse a compound clip more easily across projects, if you so desire.
Compound Clips in the Event Browser are most akin to subclips in FCP7, especially if you create them using a range selection from another clip. For example, set an in and out point within a clip, then "Create New Compound Clip" (option-G). You will be prompted for a name, and then a new clip will appear in the Event Browser with that name. It will be just like any other clip except it only will give you access to the media between the in/out points you set.
Personally, I tried using this method for one project but found some drawbacks. While it lets you give unique names to (sub)clips, once in the timeline, you have no handles for the media; to get them back (e.g., remove subclip limits) you need to break apart the clip, which loses the name you might have assigned. Using compound clips also limits your ability to use match frame (shift-F) for that clip. Finally, even though it seems like a subclip, FCPX maintains no internal relationship between the subclip and the clip it was created from. So there is no master/affiliate relationship in the same sense that FCP7 had.
Now I try only using keywords; for example, you could use the keyword "subclip" or "scene" to help break apart a longer clip into shorter ones, which you can then navigate by selecting the keyword and/or setting up smart collections containing that keyword. -

How can I open a cursor for dynamic sql statement

I'm facing issues opening a cursor for dynamic sql statement : PLS-00455: cursor 'RESULT1' cannot be used in dynamic SQL OPEN statement.

What changes should I make in the code so that it doesn't fail? I can't change the definition of RESULT1 cursor though.Gangadhar Reddy wrote:

Ok, this is an easy one to diagnose.
You are not using bind variables. This is terrible. Flushing the shared pool is a bad
solution -- you are literally killing the performance on your box by not using them.
If I was to write a book on how to build non scalable applications in Oracle, this
would be the first and last chapter. This is a major cause of performance issues and a
major inhibitor of scalability in Oracle. The way the Oracle shared pool (a very
important shared memory data structure) operates is predicated on developers using bind
variables. If you want to make Oracle run slowly, even grind to a total halt just
refuse to use them.

But, please feel free to go ahead with this successful implementation.
I just hope anyone else who reads this doesn't make the same mistake. -
