Alternative to enable/disable javascript ?

I am looking all the time into Firefox options but there is no option into the menu to disable or enable javascript. Is there any alternative solution or only "about:config" trick (which is very uncomfortable)...

The check boxes to enable/disable JavaScript and load images automatically have been removed from "Options > Content".

Some extensions that you can look at:
*SettingSanity: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/settingsanity/
*QuickJava: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava/
The PrefBar extension also comes with a button to toggle JavaScript globally and only for the current tab.

  • Why can't we simply have an option to enable/disable Javascript on sites again in the settings for Firefox 27? Suddenly my Gmail attachments won't open. Gmail.

Suddenly my Gmail attachments have stopped opening, and I receive the message: JavaScript must be enabled in order for you to use Gmail in standard view. However, it seems JavaScript is either disabled or not supported by your browser. To use standard view, enable JavaScript by changing your browser options, then try again.
I found a Mozilla support thread where it was explained that Javascript has been turned off for a while in FF. OK. Then there was a complicated answer about how you could still turn it back on by typing in a config code into the address bar. What? Or, you could download an extension to do that for you. Why?
Please-- if you really feel like users can't be trusted, and Javascript must be turned off, at least bring back the ability to enable/disable Javascript on a per site basis in options, without having to know code. It's Gmail.
    Thank you.

There is nothing on that thread that says Javascript is turned off by default. to quote:
"In Firefox 23, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and protect users from unintentially damaging their Firefox, the option to disable JavaScript was removed from the Firefox Options window.
However, the option to disable JavaScript was not removed from Firefox entirely. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on. "
The UI checkbox to disable Javascript was removed, but the option still exists in about:config (which isn't code btw, it's just preferences), nor was Javascript turned off by default, in fact the opposite is true, it is enabled by default with the option to disable it made a little more difficult to find, as only advanced users need to disable Javascript.
Please try to clear the cache and cookies for gmail, let's see if those are causing problems. [[Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer]], [[How to clear the Firefox cache]]

  • Tip: Enabling & disabling JavaScript

Just discovered this myself and I thought I'd share it to save time for anyone else who encounters the same problem. If you need to disable JavaScript -- if, for example, you're developing a web site and you want to see how it looks with JS turned off -- you may find that going to the Security pane in Safari's preferences and deselcting the "Enable JavaScript" checkbox doesn't have any effect. Even with the box deselected, JavaScript code still executes.
The culprit, in my case, was PithHelmet.
You'll need to go into PithHelmet's Rule Editor and look at whichever of the first three rules applies to the site you're testing. (Default Site Rule, Local Web Sites, or Local Pages.) Under the Security tab for that rule, you'll see an "Enable JavaScript" checkbox. That's where you need to make the change.

  • About:config Javascript Enable/Disable not working correctly

It used to be that the About:Config Javascript Enable/Disable toggle was an all or nothing swtich. If you turned it off, it was turned off for all of Firefox, including and most importantly active loaded pages with interactive content. It was an absolute need for defense against rouge pages that would do things like trap the close page function and open up many more pages when you closed a page. Other pages would attempt to download code repeatedly and the only way to truly "escape" those pages was to open up a tab with About:Config and toggle the Javascript Enabled option. This is still there, but the behavior has changed in Version 29. It no longer turns off Javascript for all pages loaded or future loaded, only future loaded ones have it turned off. This is a show stopper. Get it back to disabling for all loaded pages or we won't use Firefox anymore.

The problem of being trapped in an onbeforeclose event handler was tackled directly. You should not encounter that problem any more as of a few versions ago. (And/or you could use my Escape bookmarklet: [http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/bookmarklets.html#escape])
I'm not familiar with the other issue of sites trying to download code repeatedly.

  • Screen Personas 2.0 Enable/Disable script button in Javascript

    Hi,
Has anyone tried enabling or disabling script buttons on a flavor using Javascript. I have two script buttons,
The first one (Button1) searches for a contract based on the contract id provided by the user in a text box. (So, the script triggers the transaction me33k, fetches and displays the relevant fields in the flavor)
Now, based on whether the contract is present in the system the user needs to click another script button (Button2) which will allow him to create an order. Currently the button is disabled (ScriptButton.IsEnabled = false in the Properties menu).
In the Button1 script towards the end, I need to enable Button2 is a contract is found. So in the Button1 script, at the final step I try to calculate in JS and write the following JS code,
    var args.btn2id = document.getElementById("Personas/blahblahblah");
    args.btn2id.disabled = false;
But this is never works. And I have noticed that the control id does not return the control object in Javascript (so, args.btn2id is always null) and I tried removing the '/' and various other options.
Has anyone ever tried to enable/disable buttons in Personas? Is it even possible?
    Abhijeet

You don't have access to the Personas control properties from JavaScript to dynamically change them.
About the only thing that comes to mind is Tobias' method to hide the script button if you want to disable it.

    Hello mjswooosh,
I'm very disheartened to hear that you've had ongoing problems when attempting to order from BestBuy.com. Our goal is ever to provide a fun and efficient shopping environment! Certainly creating aggravation serves neither you nor us and I apologize sincerely for this having been your experience.
We recommend the troubleshooting steps you mentioned (i.e., clearing the browser cache, deleting temporary internet files and cookies) because this is the most common cause of this type of problem. I too have encountered this issue from time to time and these steps have almost always resolved the problem. I say almost always because there's one further step you can try: ensure that you have signed out of BestBuy.com, then perform the browser maintenance steps we've recommended. Afterward, before signing in to BestBuy.com, add your desired items to your cart and sign in as part of the checkout process. When the standard steps have not netted a resolution for me, this has solved the problem each time.
I hope this helps. I'm very grateful that you took the time to write to us with your concerns and for sharing your very valuable feedback about your online experience.
    Sincerely,

  • How do I disable javascript in FF 23? It's no longer under 'content'

I consider it a security issue that I no longer have the ability top turn off java/javascript and what not. Is there no way to enable this? This is a terrible decision, if it was a decision. People should be able to control how they interact with the web, not the browser vendor. For a browser/organization that promotes freedom for the web, this is basic functionality for that freedom. Any solution would be helpful and please don't point me at some ugly plugin.

I agree with that Mozilla seems to be taking away prefs, but not that they want to lock your browser, also Note that turning off Javascript has little benefit (it isnt very insecure and cant really take control of the system), you can still disable Java (not Javascript) from the addon manager Firefox Button/Tools => Addons.
DO NOT MIX JAVA AND JAVASCRIPT, they are VERY SEPERATE, to avoid confusion read http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript_is_not_Java <br>
"''JavaScript is a completely separate technology from Java. Java was the "in thing" back in the days when Brendan Eich at Netscape created a programming language that was originally going to be called LiveScript, so unfortunately they decided to rename it from LiveScript to JavaScript in the hope of catching the media’s interest. A JavaScript script is usually a small series of commands that are often embedded in a webpage to do things like create fly-out menus, invoke pop-up windows, and validate form data. Support for JavaScript is built into all XUL-based applications such as Firefox, Thunderbird and Mozilla Suite. (Note that JavaScript is actually a complete programming language, and it is one of the languages in which Mozilla products are written.) Java is a programming language used to create stand-alone software applications (including games). Java programs can also be embedded in webpages, in which case they are called ‘applets’. Java applications and applets require additional software (the Java Runtime Environment) to be installed on your system. For more information about running these technologies in your Mozilla product you should consult the JavaScript and Java articles.''"
In Firefox 23, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and protect users from unintentially damaging their Firefox, the option to disable JavaScript was removed from the Firefox Options window.
However, the option to disable JavaScript was not removed from Firefox entirely. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.
    '''about:config'''
    # In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
    # Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
    # In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
    # Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.
To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.
    '''Add-ons'''
You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/noscript/ No-Script] (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava/ QuickJava] (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/settingsanity/ SettingSanity] (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar)

I'm able to enable/disable Select_list item & Text_box item with the help of Radio_button item(depending on user select yes or no option of the radio button)
But after selecting Yes option of the radio_button, only when user select "Other" option of the Select_List item the Text_box should be enabled otherwise it should be disabled for any of the options of the Select_list item.

  • Enabling/Disabling PDF in Browser Option (Acrobat XI)

Firstly, know that yes I understand that this setting is no longer found in and handled by Acrobat XI and that to enable or disable PDF in browser setting you enable/disable the add-on in IE (or other browser).
In the hopes of making it more straightforward and convenient for users to toggle this setting, one option is being explored to create a custom Javascript action in Acrobat to write to the user registry to turn this on/off.
Is this feasible? Can Acrobat JavaScript actions read and write to the user's registry? As we have a collection of users that need to regularly toggle this setting (for reasons I won't go into here), it would be ideal to have an easy and straightforward means to change this setting. One possibility might be a custom Acrobat JavaScript action.
    Thoughts, suggestions, ideas?
    Thank you

Thank you. Forgive me but I want to make absolutely certain...in no way can a custom Acrobat JavaScript action change the user's registry. Is this correct? A pointer to official documentation stating such would be excellent. I have to convince someone not easily convinced

  • Enabling disabling selectinputdate

    I am 10 g user..
    <af:selectInputDate id="occurred" disabled="#{item.disable}" value="#{item.occurredDate}" >
    <af:convertDateTime pattern="dd/MM/yyyy"/>
    </af:selectInputDate>
I have that, when by javascript I do document.getElementById("occurred").disabled = false; ( note it was initially true in this case).
the button that popups the date does not occur
    Another case:
when I do document.getElementById("occurred").disabled =true;(initially it was false) the button that popups the date is still there, and the textbox is disabled but thru that popup box i am able to change the date time.
    How can I enable/disable selectinputdate??

    Hi,
What is the condition using which you are enabling / disabling the inputdate? You can specify that as EL expression for the disabled property. Something like
    <af:selectInputDate id="occurred" disabled="#{<condition>?'true':'false'}" value="#{item.occurredDate}" >-Arun

  • Disabling javascript in firefox 23

I saw my friend's Firefox beta which did not had any option to disable JavaScript . is it some where else or the option is removed ?
If it is removed i should look for alternative browser until it comes to stable version of Firefox and leave Firefox for ever.

Third party programs are a very poor method for something so simple. Now you have to worry about the third party program continuing to work, and whether you can trust an extra party (as I mentioned, even NoScript has done untrustworthy things before).
About:config is also a very poor method. It takes longer and is more annoying to use. You can't explain it to family members (since you don't want them messing with it). There have been times javascript was causing problems with a website and I could explain how to turn javascript back on when they were done with it. For that matter, I don't even want to be using it all the time since when I'm tired I might double click and change something accidentally (the option is mixed in right in the middle of tons of other stuff).
For such an important and simple function, these are ridiculously bad methods. I'm in shock Firefox has gone down this dark path.

  • Disabling JavaScript

Currently there are two unresolved vulnerabilities in Adobe Reader and Acrobat JavaScript function. It's recommended to disable JavaScript, but when you do disable it- it prompts the user with the following dialogue box: "This document contains JavaScripts. Do you want to enable JavaScripts from now on? The document may not behave correctly if they're disabled." There's no option to turn off this popup, which means it's still left up to the user on whether they want to possibly compromise the box or not.
Now, I'm not just dealing with my home computer here, I'm dealing with an Enterprise class network with approximately 400 users..most of which will see the popup, read it and select yes in order to get away from the hassle of being asked this...every time they open a PDF file. This also means that when a user selects "yes", they are effectively bypassing the reason for having set it to disable JavaScript. This is working against what System Administrators are trying to accomplish by protecting their systems against vulnerabilities and possible attack. There are no other options that I can find providing a way to actually lock down this setting and make it "silent" for users...
Anybody have any ideas?  Adobe, can you please do something about this setting and add a function to make it run silently to the end user?

If you can't contribute something meaningful to my question and situation other than the lack of security gibberish, don't reply, please. Go troll your own post in the forums.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/426908?tstart=0   (For anyone else who wants to just post their opinions and not a solution, here's a good place to do so).
I'm looking for a solution to the work-around issue, not debating how unsecure their software is and how vulnerable the next patch will be. "Go to something else"...is not a solution that will work in my case.

  • Disabling JavaScript on Access Manager

    Hi,
We are testing the liberty samples that come with the access manager using an LECP-enabled client. During the single sign on process, the service provider redirects to the identity provider but after typing the login information on identity provider, the access manager responds with a few redirects and finally sends content that contains javascript. The client browser in our case does not support javascript. We tried disabling javascript for our client on the "Browser UA" screen on the "Edit Client Types" page in the Client Detection Service on Access Manager console but it does not seem to have any effect. Is there any other way to disable Access Manager from sending javascript ?
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

does your client support meta-refresh tags? AM often uses javascript to redirect the user. You would have to go in and modify/create new template files for your client to work around it.
