ALUI Directory 10g r3

The ALUI Directory doesn't seem to be mentioned in the Administrator guide or in the User guide for 10gr3. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13158_01/alui/wci/docs103/index.html. This service has been added since the 6.0 release, and since I cannot find any information in the documentation, I have a couple of questions.
1. What does this service do?
2. Is a database required? What is stored in the database?
3. What is the LDAP listener for? Is this a stand alone LDAP service, a link to Active Directory, or some other LDAP thing?
4. Once this is installed and setup, do I administer it from the portal? How do I get to the admin screens?
The answer to some of these questions may be the same, and it may lead to other questions. Thanks in advance for your time.

Ok so I looked through the folders and found the sql folder. It included a readme and a couple of scripts. I ran the scripts as directed in the readme file and I was able to start the service.
In an attempt to verify that the service was running I opened IE and browsed to http://localhost:389/ and I get a page cannot be displayed message. I took a look in spy and the logs and I find two error messages.

I think the directory will be required for some of the additional components I need to install so it sounds like a good idea to me to get this working first.
Do I need to enter more in the URL that http://localhost:389/ ?
Do I need to authenticate somehow?
There is another log message that says

but I dont' know where to go to set query:acl:enabled.
Any ideas?

  • Sample java code to obtain data from ALUI directory

    Hi
I need to go to the ALUI LDAP ( directory ) services to get user profile information.
The documentation did not help me to figure out the way to obtain data from it.
so , it would be a great help if some one could share the sample java code api to obtain data from ALUI directory.

i'm guessing you are asking to get the groups for a particular user. someone in the other thread posted the actual SQL, that may be easier. ( you are on 10gR3 right, because ALUI directory didn't exist before 6.5)
I dont have a sample done yet, but the internet is filled with samples of java and ldap...

Any idea as to where this is comming from?
    Thanks,
    Mike

rpm-org need lua and then beecrypt to work. I could pacman lua but the other bit needed to be taken in as a tarball. I had to do that "tar -xvzf beecrypt" then entered beecrypt and ran makepkg. Bunch of words, then I got a "beecrypt-4.2.1-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz" file. I turned into the super user and did "pacman -U beecrypt-4.2.1-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz" which installed the program.I did the same process for rpm-org. This is the correct way to do these things right? As I was unable to do the process directly with rpm-org since it was requiring dependencies and I should not assume super user to install programs outside of a pacman call?
mcmillan wrote:And once you have figured out how to use the AUR, I think you should look to install one of the oracle-xe packages, rather than rpm as in that link, unless karol had a specific reason to suggest installing rpm-org. I have a feeling that mixing package managers like that is likely to end up causing more problems.
Ok, so now that I have the ability to actually open this, oracle-xe-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm, file. You are saying that doing it this way could be bad for the system and I should just use the package build from AUR? How is it bad for the system? Does it merely make it so that pacman cannot uninstall the software.
Also, I can delete the stuff I independently downloaded the,*.pkg.tar.xz files and the *.tar.xz files, without effecting the running installs?

  • ALUI Directory vs. Oracle BPM

    Hi,
I'm trying to filter users import to import my BPM Engine.
I would like to query all users that has groups containing a
    string.
    Something like that:
    (&(objectclass=portalUserClass)(uniquemembersof=*groupname*))
But, I thing this attribute uniquemembersof of a user is a
    virtual attribute, right!?
I cannot see this attribute on any users, but when I open a
group I can see the attribute uniquemember.
    Any idea!?
    Thanks.

Yeah, I could use Oracle External Authentication Plug-in, but I am having issues with running the oidspadi.sh script on my Windows 2003 server environment. I am running this script using Cygwin's latest software, but for some reason I get the following error message.

Therefore, I was trying to find an alternative solution, which will be using Virtual Directory. Right now, I have installed Oracle Virtual Directory on my testing system and I have both Active Directory server and OID server part of LDAP Browser. My goal is to using Oracle Portal to log-in and first look for the user in OID if not found then look in Active Directory. Can this be accomplished using Oracle Virtual Directory?
    Please let me know.

  • OID 10g and AD 2008

    Hello,
We are facing a dilema and I am hoping someone else has gone through this and could offer a suggestion.
We use OID 10g as part of our single sign on that authenticates our Oracle apps 11i based app with AD 2003 currently, using DIP. The plan is to upgrade AD 2003 to AD 2008. However, from what I understand we need to upgrade our OID to 11g. Our dilema is that this would force an upgrade of another large system at the same time, which I am hoping avoid and am hoping to buy us some time to upgrade to OID 11g a little further down the road when we have more bandwidth to handle.
I came across an article that talks about a work around that I am hoping could help us short term.
    The article is here http://mjohal.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/integrating-oracle-apps-11i-with-ms-ad-2008/
But the part I am hoping someone could shed some light on is this below portion from the article in the link above.
[So, as OID 11g is not yet certified with Oracle Apps 11i, integration deployments with Oracle Apps 11i/OID 10g cannot be integrated with MS AD 2008.
Well, there is a way around to achieve this. However, that will involve introduction of additional component I.e. Oracle Identity Manager (OIM), a component of Oracle Identity Management Suite, provides a identity provisioning solution for Oracle and non-Oracle products. Oracle Identity Manager is certified to use with Oracle Internet Directory 10g and MS Active Directory 2008.
Oracle Identity Manager provides connectors for OID 10g and MS AD 2008, which allows users created in MS AD 2008 to be reconciled into OIM, which in turn will propogate user information to OID. In turn, OID will propagate those changes to Oracle Apps 11i FND_USER table.]
What I need others help with is, Is this indeed possible? Has anyone else done this? If not, what options do we have with working with AD 2008.
    Thank you,
    MarkP

  • Users add in OVD 10g

    Hi All,
could any one help me how to add the users to the Oracle Virtual Directory 10g. I was able to connect the OVD using 3rd part tools also like softerra, but whatever i have tried to create the users are failing like import from ldif file also.
Please tell me is this possible to use the OVD as ldap, as far as i know OVD can be used as the interface for the several ldaps in the networks.
    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,
Within a relational OLAP environment performance of queries can be managed via two 'types' of summary tables. The first 'type' are used to manage access to dimensional structures. These flatten the relational structures into an embedded total dimension structure. Without these summary tables OLAP performance can be very slow. The OLAP database documentation explains how to create these additional summary tables.
There are also OLAP packages that help to manage the creation of summary tables based on dimension levels. Again this package is documented in the OLAP database doucmentation.
To help with tracing, there is an excellent article in the database section of OTN that will help you:

Good question. I'll try to recap a little history of Fuego, AquaLogic and Oracle BPM for you. I worked for Fuego just before it was acquired and rebranded as part of the BEA AquaLogic Suite. I'd like to see what other have to say on this topic as well.
From what I recall, BEA bought Fuego and released version 6.0. This was the first version branded as AquaLogic. The major change it contained was the integration of studio into the Eclipse IDE. It was somewhat integrated with ALUI, which used to be Plumtree before it was bought out by BEA and re-branded AquaLogic. I say somewhat since it wasn't integrated as well as it could. One major issue was the way the directory was integrated. They used a synchronization utility called ITPS (I think) to sync the ALUI directory with BPMs directory. This was very problematic.
Version 6.3 came out that improved the way the workspace integrated with portals and ALUI and integrated the directory more efficiently with ALUI. Mostly it contained many improvements in the workspace functionality. The workspace had configurable panels which made it easier to integrate with dashboard components and widgets.
Version 6.5 was coming out around the same time that Oracle took control of BEA. Version 6.5 is very much the same as OBPM 10g. For more information about OBPM 10g refer to this article:
    http://otndnld.oracle.co.jp/document/products/bea/weblogic/E13154_01/relnotes/release_notes_OracleBPM10gR3.htm
In a couple of months Oracle will be releasing BPM 11g. There will be many changes to BPM in this release. It will be integrated with JDeveloper and will inherit much of the SOA strategies known for Oracle's Fushion Middleware suite. It also contains a Process Composer web based UI that Business Analysts and Business stakeholders will find useful.
I blogged about BPM 11g here:

  • OVD - special/national characters in LDAP context

    Hi all,
I created integration between Active Directory and Oracle 10g via Oracle Virtual Directory 10g. All works correctly but some users have national characters in his/her AD context. For example Thomas Bjørne (cn=Thomas Bjørne,cn=Users,dc=media,dc=local). In this case this user cannot login into database. I know that problem is with special national characters in AD context but I don't know how solve it. It is not possible change AD context :-(
Can somebody help me with it?

Lets first verify that you can bind to OID using the command line
commands with an existing user in OID.
Lets assume for a moment that your users password is welcome and
their DN in OID is cn=jdoe,c=US
Try the following command and tell me what the results are.
    ldapsearch -p port_num -h host_name -b "c=US" -s sub -v "cn=*"
It should return all users under c=US. If not let me know the
    error message you get.

  • Oracle Access Manager, ADAM & UCM integration? Help please..

I`m currently investigating the potential of using Oracle Access Manager (OAM) as a tool that allows connections to multiple Active Directory(AD) or ADAM servers providing a single point to author and manage users with a good easy to use GUI.
The UCM will connect directly to OAM and authenticate users connecting from AD accounts..
At the moment we use Quest software to manage users, but the cost for setting up users is £15/user where as OAM is only £3. I believe..
Right the questions I have :)
    1. Has any one set this type of environment up?
    2. ls OAM stand alone or will I need additional software to set it up?
Reading the installation guide it says I need the following:
    # Oracle Internet Directory 10g (10.1.4.0.1)
    # Microsoft Active Directory
    # Oracle Virtual Directory Server 10.1.4.0.1
    # Oracle Virtual Directory Manager 10.1.4.0.1
    # Oracle Virtual Directory Patch 10.1.4.0.1 (P5667977)
    # Stand-alone Oracle HTTP Server 2.x (This needs to be preinstalled in your environment. You can download the OHS 2.x standalone from the Oracle SOA Suite 10g Companion (10.1.3.1.0) release from here.)
    3. Can I use IIS instead of Oracle HTTP Server?
    4. Can I install OAM on 1 server or do I need multiple servers, I`v been looking at the diagrams and reading through the guides I`m getting a little confused with Identity and Access server?

    Hi,
Have you got information reg UCM & OAM integration?
Could you please help me with the integration guide?
    Regards,
    Ashish

The OAM identity system (identity server and WebPass) sound like a good fit for what you want to do. One constraint is that if you want to create/manage users in different directory instances via a single OAM identity system installation, you would also need OVD.
And yes you definitely can have IIS host the WebPass - OHS, OID etc are not required.

  • How to load balance everything

    Edit:
More up to date list is available on the wiki:
    http://wiki.oracle.com/page/WCI+Load+Balancing
Its hard to find information related to deployment anymore, as there is no deployment guide for 10gR3 and a lot of information is scattered around in outdated blog posts. I'd like to keep a list of how to design every component for HA. I don't doubt that there are a lot of errors and things that need filled in so please reply with your additions and corrections.
h3. Types of load balancing referenced:
    h4. external
refers to a hardware or software based load balancing handled outside Webcenter software
    h4. MPPE
the 'massively parallel portlet engine' is the portal's ability to internally load balance web services that are configured with round robin DNS
    h4. cold failover
I might have the terminology wrong, but I'm referring to when you have another instance of the product installed but disabled. The instance can be turned on in the event of an ourage of the primary component, but it is not automatically available.
    h1. Portal
Load balanced with an external load balancer (sticky session enabled)
    h3. References:
    http://edocs.bea.com/alui/deployment/docs604/networking/c_loadbalancing.html
    h1. API
    h1. Publisher
Publisher is able to be load balanced by breaking it up into components: publisher admin, publisher redirect, published content
    h2. Publisher admin
Cannot be load balanced, use cold failover
    h2. Publisher redirector
    MPPE (or external?)
    h2. Published content
    external
    h3. References:
    http://fsanglier.blogspot.com/2008/02/alui-publisher-increase-performance.html
    h1. Collaboration
External / MPPE (with collab internal clustering)
(Although i'm currently having issues wtih this and someone reported that you can do without the collab internal clustering)
    h3. Collab's API
When using the IDK to connect to collab, custom applications bypass the MPPE and communicate directly to the collab host, losing the benefit of the MPPE. In order to load balance in this situation, the collab host must use external load balancing. (is this true?)
h3. "Search" service (the collab one) (only applies to 4.5 or newer)
Install on same servers as collab?

    MPPE to the Web Services
External between Web Services and AD /LDAP servers (or use HOSTS files to point each ADAWS server to a differnet AD server?)
    h1. Search
(grid search: 6.1 or newer)The portal can load balance search requests internally. Each search node has knowledge of other nodes, so only 1 node needs to be reported to the portal. When the portal starts up, the 1 search node that is registered with the portal MUST be available.
    h1. Analytics
    Analytics UI
(i'm not sure? i'm guessing anything would work here because the admin UI is pretty much read only on the database)
Analytics collector can be load balanced (as of 2.5)

    h1. Automation
Load balancing for reduncancy is not possible. However, the work can be split up Automation servers are assigned to different folders. Don't assign 2 automation servers to the same folder, as they can compete for jobs. (?)
    h1. Content Upload
    (mppe / external)?
    h1. ALUI Directory Service
    h1. Remote Portlet Service
    ? (i'm gussing MPPE)
    h1. Notification
    ? no idea

Here are few bits of info:
For load balancing for Analytics, that isn't officially supported yet for the UI and Administration components. It might work with sticky sessions from portal-to-analytics but that doesn't get you much. Improving the options there would be a good enhancement request.
For the collector, I think there are two important things to remember. Use broadcast mode. I've never actually seen it in unicast mode, but broadcast definitely works. Also, remember that this is all managed by Portal and Analytics - you don't use your own load balancer between Portal instances and the Analytics Collector instances.
Finally, ALUI Directory is not certified to be load balanced yet. On a separate note, ALUI Directory has a socket leak on Windows due to a bug in the version of Jrockit that ships with it. Upgrading the embedded application server for the ALUI/WCI installation to jrockit-R27.5.0-jdk1.5.0_14 will resolve it.

  • How to load balance serving MP4 files via AMS

    Hey gurus,
We have one centralized storage server that stores videos, Lets call this Server A, we have 4 more servers that we want to use to load the files from Server A to load balance and location balance the loading of files.
Servers B-E are on a private VLAN with Server A; so what we're doing now is mounting Server A on to Servers B-E and serving the files via AMS; this has proved to be quite inefficient.
For Live Streams; we use multi-point publishing to achieve this; is there a way to do this with recorded files?
    Please advise!
    Thanks

  • Paged LDAP Search Results Question

    Greetings,
I have some code that does a dbms_ldap.search_s to create a view of all users. Everything was working fine until last week when got an error and I realized the results return exceeded the LDAPS MaxPageSizeLimit (was set to 2000, we now have 2000+ users). I was able to get the sys admins to increase the size temporarily until I can modify my code to page the search results. I've been doing some research on Page LDAP Search Results and am not finding much for dbms_ldap. Perhaps my research skills are not up to snuff. In any case, I found on oracle docs (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/oid.1111/e10186/ext_ldap.htm#CEGJJIAF) where it references:
"As of Oracle Internet Directory 10g (10.1.4.0.1), you can obtain paged results from an LDAP search, as described by IETF RFC 2696. You request sorted results by passing a control of type 1.2.840.113556.1.4.319 to the search function. Details are described in RFC 2696."
However, I'm not finding much on how to implement this using dbms_ldap.
Can anyone point me somewhere that I can found how to implement returning pagedResults using ldap with Oracle 11g?
    Best,
    Nat

Yes, I did read that but I don't see in that file where it references anything about dbms. I see the section on:
RFC 2696 LDAP Control Ext. for Simple Paged Results September 1999
    pagedResultsControl ::= SEQUENCE {
    controlType 1.2.840.113556.1.4.319,
    criticality BOOLEAN DEFAULT FALSE,
    controlValue searchControlValue
However, when I look at oracle docs, I don't see where in dbms_ldap you can specify this config. any pointers?

  • Backup/restore of Analytics

    Hi, experts,
Our customer wants to backup/restore analytics DB to prevent analytics from server/DB crash.
They want to know if they have to backup portal and collaboration DB at the same time?
They worry that the portal DB and collaboration DB have the analytics info. so,
If just separately backup/restore analytics DB will cause date inconsistent.
    Regards
    Sai

This is true because the Analytics sync jobs transfer required portal and collab information into the Analytics database. The only information for Analytics not stored in it's database is the security information you set in Analytics Administration. Authentication for Administration and the report Console depend on the security database, ALUI Directory and the API Server (both use the portal database). But I think this information would not change frequently for most customers and it does not influence the event data itself.
