Always Allow not working

We are running OS 10.5.8 and have limitations on student accounts. Just installed Adobe CS5 and student accounts are set to allow access to it through System Preferences.
Problem is, when they launch the software they get a message saying they don't have access privileges. Options given are Always Allow, Allow Once, and Cancel.
We have been selecting Always Allow and typing in the Admin user and password, but it doesn't appear that our choice is retained once the software is quit since subsequent launches present the same message regarding access.
Any solutions? Thanks

No, we didn't install via server due to problems we've had connecting to the computers via ARD, so we physically loaded the DVD onto each workstation and performed the upgrades there. (Prior to the upgrade, these computers were running CS3 with no issues; we recently installed MS Office for the first time on them. Also we did a permissions repair after the installs/upgrades).
We've experienced strange behavior with access privileges in the past as well...things like the applications we selected in System Prefs to allow students access would revert to being deselected somehow (students do not have access to System Prefs) and vice versa, as if it wasn't holding the preferences we had previously indicated. Those issues, combined with this most recent deluge of error messages have led me to believe it's an issue with the operating system software.
Thanks for your help and the clarification of AFAICT. If you have any other ideas, please advise.

• Parental Controls - Allows Allow Not Working - a Solution

So this is actually in reply to this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1805596&tstart=0&messageID=911 3494#9113494
Since it is archived, I can't actually reply to that thread though - yet it comes up so high in Google's search that I have to reply somehow.
Here's the problem's set up:
You have a child with Parental Controls enabled and email managed. The child gets an email from someone or attempts to send email to someone that is not permitted. You have your email address listed as the permission address, and get an email with a button in Apple Mail that reads "Always Allow". Clicking that button does nothing.
If you look at the headers for that request message, they look like this (this is from the child sending to someone that is not yet permitted):
Subject: (Subject Here)
Date: Mon, 5 Jul 2010 20:33:39 -0500
Resent-To: (Your Address Here)
Resent-From: Child's Name <childs@address>
X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.915)
X-Apple-Mail-Parental-Control-Addresses: (Disallowed Recipient Name) <recip@address>
X-Apple-Mail-Parental-Control-Request: recipients
Resent-Date: Mon, 5 Jul 2010 20:33:39 -0500
So, after that lengthy bit, here's the issue in a nutshell - many people have multiple email aliases that deliver to one mailbox. I have tony@mydomain and numbski@mydomain. Apple mail is configured to send from numbski@mydomain, but I had the kid's parental controls set to send permission requests to tony@mydomain. The result is that the permission request doesn't even render properly, let alone allow you to act on the request in any useful way.
The fix is either to change the address in the parental controls or change your sending email address in Apple Mail.

Hi,
I cannot speak from experience, but only from reading the Help, but as I read that, I have the impression that the administrative account is expected to be running on the same machine. While I believe you would also see the messages on another Mac , but only if your account on the child's Mac was setting it all up. Furthermore, I wonder if the release can be triggered from your email account on another machine. But I mostly studied this for someone using Tiger, and have not re-briefed myself for Leopard.
Do you share this Mac, and via hot swap is your Admin account always running?

• Flashplayer download not working with Safari 7

I'm on a 2013 Macbook Air and I recently tried to download and install the latest Flashplayer update directly from the Adobe website, but it doesn't work. It does however work just fine on Firefox... weird...and that's fine I could always use Firefox from now on, but would still like to find out how to solve that problem because I DO prefer to use Safari over Firefox. Any ideas?
Please & Thank You!

open safari / preferences / security / internet plug ins / manage website settings / select adobe stuff - flash etc.. / always allow.
should work (it will)

• Firefox is not working - I believe it is because a McAfee pop-up asked if I wanted to allow something, and instead of 'allow always' I clicked 'block.' A year or so ago I did this (and forgot) and it changed the settings and I also lost MF access.

Everything else about my computer works fine, but I get a small
pop-up window in the bottom right asking if I want to allow some
kind of program access, and the options are 'allow always',
'allow once', or 'block.' I forgot that I lost access to MF and
had to call someone to help me change the settings a yr or so
ago. But I believe it was this same issue - when I re-booted the
settings took effect. What must I change in my settings? I
already deleted my MF profile.

Has any had you try a reset yet? Sometimes the WiFi & Cellular anntennas get wacky.

• How do I stop the popup "identityservicesd wants to use your confidential information stored in " key " in your keychain"? Always allow doesn't work.

I repeatedly see the popup:
"identityservicesd wants to use your confidential information stored in "<key>" in your keychain"
If I click "always allow" it still comes up.
I've followed instructions elsewhere on this forum to open Keychain Access and use First Aid, but to no avail.
Previously I would receive the popup "messages app wants to use your confidential information..." but I changed the Access Control to allow all applications to access this item, hoping that would do the trick. But sadly it didn't work.
Any ideas?
(Also, ever since upgrading to Mavericks, it wants to go through first-time setup every time I log in. I'm prompted to enter my iCloud password, etc. etc. but the above problem predates that)

My immediate reaction is to deny.
Have you downloaded or installed any application that may relate to the abbreviation AOS? It may not necessarily be the application's name, could be the developer or distributor.
As it's occuring at log-in, go to System Preferences > Accounts > your account > Login Items and look for a related item. If there's one there, right-click (or ctrl click) on it and select Reveal in Finder. That will show you where the originator of the item is on your system and should give you more of a clue as to what it is.
I'd remove the item from login items anyway (highlight and click the minus sign at the bottom of the window). There shouldn't be anything trying to use your keychain info to notify anyone.

Just thought I'd let you know. Our suspicions were correct, it was the OS. After I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8) all the problems were corrected. I also updated the RAM from 1 gb to 6 gb. The mac is working all around better. Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone. My superdrive had pooped out. Rather than replace it I got an external drive from OWC connected with firewire 800. So far everything is running very well, as far as I can tell this external drive is better than the original superdrive. My superdrive has always acted funny, infact I returned the first mac I got after a week because its superdrive was also malfunctioning. Anyway, all that to say everything seems to be fully functioning again.

To Mickey: I got the 2 RAR files into one directory, extracted the part1.rar file, and in that new folder there is a file called start.html. I opened this, and followed the links on the right, from "Welcome" to "Getting Started". After all this I had the SAP Management Console, as well as the Database Manager applications created. You will find the specific instructions for setting up the MaxDB under the "Getting Started" link. After setting up the Database Manager you have to start it up with a user-id and password which was created during the set-up, and specifically link the database to the NSP system. I seem to remember that this didn't work at first, because the Database Manager shortcut does not run the program as an administrator. So run it as an administrator! I altered the shortcut's properties under the shortcut/advanced so it will always run the program as an administrator, and haven't had any problems - once you have done the "Add" procedure you may never need to re-visit the database manager.

• Installed Parental Controls on MBP 10.7.5. Now it's unusable (exc admin's acct). Constant message pops up- "You don't have permission to use (whatev) app." U can click: ok, always allow, allow once, but no matter what, message continues and u can't work

Hi,
I installed Parental Controls on our MacBookPro 10.7.5. Now it's unusable (except for my admin's acct). Constant messages keep popping up that say "You don't have permission to use (whatever) application." You have the option to click: ok, always allow, or allow once, but no matter what you select, the messages keep popping up and prevent you from working. I have searched these forums, and all I have found is that you are supposed to uninstall the application (Spotify, dashboard, etc). Deinstalling every app is not a solution.
If the parental controls just don't work - and frankly I'm tired of wasting all this time trying to fix the bugs - can someone recommend a program that will restrict certain user accounts to any websites I haven't specified?
Thanks for any help or advice.

Thanks Bob for that very fast reply!
But neither "Modifying hal configuration" nor "Using the Desktop Environment settings" (xfce) worked. So I tried the "I don't want this crap, how do I turn it off?" solution and well it works
Maybe I turn it back on in a month or so.. but for now i'm fine with no hot plugging but a working keyboard...
Thanks and Bye!

• Managed Preferences (Allowed Apps) Are Not working?

I am having a problem with a Computer List managed preferences not working..I am selecting Always manage, allow only these apps and the clients do not read all the permissions properly. IE: Allow Firefox and log in and it will not allow Firefox. It's hit or miss. Safari works when told to allow, other apps also work. It just seems that some apps do not listen to the management. If I go back to WGM, Turn off Always, log back in on the client, and Firefox and everything else works. Server 10.5.4, Client 10.5.4
BTW, Where is the Managed Clients sub catagory in the Leopard Server Discussions?
Thanks for the help!

We are using Computer Groups as we have found it to be far easier to manage machines instead of users. As far as apps go, we don't use the "Applications pane" we use the "Folders" pane and approve them that way. The documentation states that this is designed for both an application bundle or Application folders. It works in that if there is any Daemons withing the bundle or folder, it also approves these all in one shot.

Hi lisaarnett111,
If you are having issues turning on Always Allow for cookies in Safari on your iPad, you may want to check to make sure that you don't have Private Browsing enabled, as noted in the following article:

• "Always ask me where to save files" does not work.

Summary: The "Always ask me where to save files" feature does not work. No dialog box comes up, apparently because the browser is stuck on a bad old read-only lastDir location, in a prefs.js file that I can't edit.
Details:
I am using Firefox 30.0 on Mac OS 10.6.8. My Mac has a both a read/write Mac partition that I use most of the time, and a bootcamp Windows partition drive ("C"), which I can read but not write to.
At some point I accidentally tried to download a file from a site, using Firefox, to the read-only Windows C drive. Ever since that time, I have not been able to download any files from Firefox, except to the firefox/downloads folder. This is inconvenient. If, in preferences, I try to set downloads to ""Always ask me where to save files", the dialog box does not come up when I actually try to save files. This problem does not apply to saving photos by right-clicking them.
If I open, in text-edit, mozilla/firefox/profiles/t4vockvue.default/prefs.js, which was saved yesterday, I can see a problematic line. It reads:
user_pref("browser.download.lastDir", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\[etcetc]");
C:\\Documents and Settings\\[etcetc] being the read-only windows directory.
This prefs.js is apparently not an editable file.
I tried to fix this by opening a browser tab in Firefox and opening about:config. The editable browser.download.lastDir does NOT show the same "lastDir"....it shows some directory that I successfully downloaded photos to, by right-clicking on a photo.
How can I fix this problem?
Thanks.

To confirm which profile folder is active when you are running Firefox, it is easiest to open it from inside Firefox as follows:
Sometimes the file that stores the customizations becomes corrupted and fails to update properly at the end of your session. You can rename the file and customize from scratch.
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show in Finder" button (Windows: "Show Folder" button).
Hopefully you are using a separate profile folder on each OS.

Please advice

I have this _same_ issue, exactly. Initial backup goes just fine, but incremental backups fail. And like you, I replaced the internal drive.
The failures didn't start occuring long after the original drive was replaced--which was about 1 year ago. The new drive was non-Apple and worked fine--and tests fine now as well when outside the TC. But suddenly incremental backups started failing when the TC firmware and utility app were updated about 2-3 months ago. I even swapped the internal non-Apple drive for another known-working non-Apple drive, and same results.
I strongly suspect Apple added something to the firmware to check if it's an Apple or non-Apple drive in the TC and, if the latter, maybe causes incremental backups to fail. This is only speculation and, obviously, the initial backup still works, so any checksum like this would have to be only during the incremental backup process.
I'll be checking into this thred to see if others have the same issue, or if a solution is found. Hopefully my hypothesis is just para-apple-noia and it's some small, easy-to-fix issue.
