Always render after making video visible/hidden?

I hope someone can help me, I've spent more time rendering than actually working on this project.
I'm cutting together a music video that has 3 takes. The video is layered one track on top of the other, with the only audio being the guide track. Since I can only view one video track at a time, I have to make them visible on and off. However, every time I do, it needs me to render the entire video again. Which has naturally, become rather time consuming.
I've done a lot of videos, and this hasn't happened before. Solutions?
Thanks a lot!

You are not using the application correctly. If you cannot use the multicam function, the standard way to do what you're doing is to resize the images so you can see all the clips on multiple tracks simultaneously. To work like this you probably should switch to Unlimited RT.
I would suggest that though you've ben using the application for years you need to speed a little time learning it.

  • How can I save space on my Macbook Pro after making videos on iMovie & FCP ? Should I delete my files after?

Okay so I make a lot of videos on my mac for my Youtube Channel. I have quite a few projects and movies from Movie, but ive recently switched over to Final Cut pro and the rest is history. However im running out of space on my hard drive, FAST! to the point i cant even edit my new video. Silly me for not paying attention to the warning signs (ie slow computer duh...)
So my question is, is it smart to delete my projects, events and original videos once ive exported and uploaded the the final video? I think Im quite the hoarder when it comes to these things like im worried i might need it for something. Is there anyone who has a YT channel or makes videos regularly relate to what im saying and what are your ways on saving space and what you do once you've finished your project?????
Thanks a bunch if you can help I just need someone else's insight and opinion to help me decide what to do....

There are really two answers depending on how much money you are willing to spend, and how much editing you plan to do on the footage.
Option 1) You can rely on your Digital8 tapes for backup, and re-import them if you ever need the footage again. You can delete your event files (once you have completed all Projects). Once you have SHARED your projects in all sizes you need, the projects are in a compressed format. Once you delete the Event files, no further editing will be possible.
Option 2) Keep the Event Files on a large external hard drive, and back it up. This way, you have maximum flexibility for future editing, future new projects, and you don't have to worry about the lengthy import from a nearly obsolete tape format again. I recommend Option 2. External drives are relatively cheap these days, and your time is probably more valuable than the cost of an external drive and the cost of the re-import.

  • Auto select layer after making visble

    Hi,
Could someone tell me if it's possible to have Photoshop auto select the layer or group after making the layer visible, so clicking the eye. This bugs me every time I make a layer visible, since I end up moving the layer right after making it visible around 90% of the time (and it end up moving the last layer I had selected).
    I'm on OS X 10.8.3 and CS6.
I apologise if I'm the only one with this tiny bugbear.
    Thanks,
    James

    @ c.pfaffenbichler
When I tried your solution I found out that using Ctrl the appropriate layer ia selected, Alt copies the layer, Ctrl+Alt behaves the same as just Alt.
But using the Ctrl key is an easy way to accomplish what I wanted, too.

  • Audio and video out of sync after making subclip

I split into subclips about one hour of video. when I play the subclips back in the viewer the audio is at the beginning and the video is at the very end with alot of black space in between. when i watch the original one hour clip in the viewer it's perfect.

I captured a whole tape via "capture now" then went back and viewed it using markers to select scenes for my subclips. The played back tape is fine but after making subclips out of my markers the audio is at the very beginning of the clip and has a timecode of 00:00:00;00 (black screen in viewer), then a few minutes of black screen with nothing, then my video with the proper timecode as shown in browser and elsewhere. Each clip has a audio timecode of 00:00:00;00 and the video has the correct timecode. I can unlink them in the timeline and sync them but this is way too much work plus it doesn't really sync them anywhere but in the timeline and canvas. In the viewer I get the little editing ques and boxes that show where video and audio are, you know the little frame in/frame out "L"'s and they read exactly what I'm getting.ie. audio at 00:00:00;00 and video elsewhere.

  • IMovie HD 6.0.3: After making 10 movies where I clipped portions from a larger clip (and exported the smaller clips), suddenly iMovie clips are much shorter after I export them.

    Hi there,
I am using iMovie HD 6.0.3 on an older MacBookPro (OS X, 10.4.11).
I took an AVI video and imported that into iMovie HD.
I then created smaller clips out of that - like editing a 20 minute video into small, 30 second clips.
I made about 10 of these smaller clips, exported them using "expert settings," and burned the results to DVD. These all worked fine.
Suddenly, the final product that I export is much shorter than the clip I created. For example, I'll create a 30 second smaller clip from the original. When I review this 30 second clip, it is what I wanted.
When I export this 30 second clip, it makes a QuickTime movie that is only 23 seconds. (The first 10 I made did not do this).
I tried extending my clip by 7 seconds, hoping to end up with a 30 second clip after exporting. The result was even shorter - like 15 seconds.
I have checked disk space - it has at least 500 GB free space. I have tried exporting the clip to both my laptop and to an external hard drive. The results are the same.
I just tried using the "crop" feature to see if my end product was better - but it was the same.
Does anyone know what is going on? Why did this start after making 10 successful exports? What can I do to get it working right again, as I have 3 more clips to make and am running up against a deadline.
    Thanks so much!
    Heidi

Since I can't edit this post... (Why?) I'd add: fast forwarding and fast reverse (shift key and arrow left or right) the HA files is also not smooth. They play alright. I'm surprised iMovie can't handle them either. I didn't have a problem with the earlier camcorder's HA files... (All were converted MTS files using Movie Converter.)

  • How do I remove white jagged edges after making image transparent?

How do I remove white jagged edges after making image transparent?  Is there a feature to help out with this?

It's a file format limitation. GIF supports 1 bit of transparency.  That is 2^1 (which equals 2 total) levels of transparency.  This equates to either NO transparency at all, or specifying 1 single color of the 256 total possible values to being fully transparent.
This will leave a very ugly fringe around the edge no matter what; it will only not be visible in color that match or are close to the fringe color; and then, that's a perception issue.
Try creating an alpha channel and saving the image as a PNG.  That supports 8 bits of transparency, which equals 2^8 or 256 total different levels of transparency.  This will let your image have very smooth edges with no jagged transitions.

  • After making a movie and wanting to burn a DVD, I go for iDVD in the 'DEEL'  menu. Then I get the question ' where is iDVD? What is the problem?

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

  • Premiere CC always crashes after few minutes?

Premiere CC always crashes after a few minutes. I reinstalled it, but the problem is the same. What can I do? What may be the reason for it? Thanks for your help.
    (Coming from Germany)

    Gutentag!
Thanks for visiting the forum and sorry for your troubles. This problem is usually due to unsupported video drivers for your video card (GPU). Also, certain computers have more than one GPU, so you have to make sure those are also updated.
My advice is if you are running an NVIDIA card, update to the latest drivers.
If you also have an Intel HD Graphics GPU installed in your computer, you need to update those drivers, as well.
Here is a link to the downloads for the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22605
Here is a link to the downloads for other Intel HD Graphics drivers: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/graphics
After updating video drivers, please restart the computer and test Premiere Pro for stability.
Please let us know what happens after updating your drivers.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • IDVD halts after encoding videos but before audio

I have made many iDVD's of our travel pictures, including both pictures and videos. However, my current iMovie won't complet e the process and always stops after encoding the videos but does not encode the audios. At that point, the gumball just sets there and spins for many hours (overnight, etc.) and when using the "force quit" the drop down says iDVD not responding" in red. I have tried about 5 times with no result. Any suggestions as to what I should do will be appreciated. Thank you. R. L. Anderson, M.D.

Hang in there. This is "Normal." In fact, contrary to what the computer is telling you, the computer is processing the audio.
Adding audio to your iMovie causes this problem. There are two work arounds.
    1. Export your iMovie back to your camcorder, then input the movie back into a new iMovie, add your chapters and export to iDVD. The audio encoding may hang up but it will only be for a few minutes.
    2. Export iMovie as a Quicktime movie, then reimport the Quicktime movie to iMovie, add chapters, export to iDVD.
If you search this the iDVD forum for "audio encoding" you'll see loads of messages on this topic.

  • Why am I unable to delete the default track (which seems to act as the master, right?) after making a rough mix?  Is it possible to delete the default track after having rendered a mix?

Why am I unable to delete the default track (which seems to act as the master, right?) after making a rough mix?  Is it possible to delete the default track after having rendered a mix?  I did a rough mix and now cannot change the song as the tracks that were a part of the rough mix seem to remain in the song even though I mute the tracks for a new mix.  For instance, I played and recorded a different bass line.  Muted the original, but when trying to create the new mix I can hear the original bass line even though I have muted that track.  It seems to remain in the previous master (default) track.  Please send help.  Thank you.

Before answering your question, you have to make sure you understand the difference between the different track types in GarageBand.
Tracks, you record your music on
There are three types of those Tracks.
MIDI Tracks (aka Software Instrument Tracks)
Audio Tracks (aka Real Instrument Tracks)
Drummer Track (only one per Project)
    Global Tracks
These are the Tracks that can be shown/hidden at the top of the Tracks Area for specific purposes.
    Arrangement Track
    Movie Track
    Transposition Track
    Tempo Track
    Master Track
This Track can also be shown/hidden in the Tracks Area. Please note, you cannot delete that Track, only hide it, similar to the Global Tracks
Regarding the Tracks you record your music on,  you can delete any of those. It doesn't matter if you created them or there are part of a Template (maybe that  is what you refer to as the default track). Once you delete the last Track, the "New Track Window" will pop up to add a new track.
I will explain all that in much more detail in my manual "GarageBand X - How it Works".
    Hope that helps

  • Can't find original patch after making an alias

How to retrieve the original patch after making an alias. It seems lost in the backgroung of mainstage. Help! :-)

iPhoto used to place the photos in a standard directory "iPhoto Library" but this has now become a package, which hides access to the contents--just like in many applications--to keep you from rearranging them. You (or I) cannot directly access the contents but the "package" is just a specially marked directory. If you know a filename of one of the pictures or albums then you can search for that and it will find the file/photo. Then you have access to the directory and can go up, down, or over. It uses the same names in several of them.
The head shots you are seeing may be the "Faces" feature of the new iPhoto. They will be in a separate directory, as well as directories for original, modified, and others. Interesting, it did not find the photo names on the backup disk. Differing degrees of hiddenness? You can get there with Terminal. This is what I found in mine--notice the thumbnails used in album views:
    2001 Dir.data Thumb64Segment.data
    2002 Library.data ThumbJPGSegment.data
    2003 Library.iPhoto face.db
    2004 Library6.iPhoto face_blob.db
    2005 Library6.iPhoto.bak iPhoto Selection
    2006 Metadata Backup iPhoto.ipspot
    AlbumData.xml Modified iPhotoAux.db
    AlbumData2.xml Originals iPhotoLock.data
    Auto Import Roll 249 iPhotoMain.db
    Data Roll 251
    Data.noindex ThemeCache
Your best bet is to select the photos you want and export them where you can have the JPEGs.
After import, I export so I can use shootShifter to adjust the names to be their exposure dates in yymmdd hrmise format. (You did set the camera's date.)

  • Why my previous after effects videos (MP4) cannot be imported as multi-layered composition?

    Hi,
As I go throught your tutorials, I cannot figure out how to edit previous after effect videos. My imported videos can only be imported as footage. Therefore, I cannot edit them in After effects. How can you help?
    Thank you!
    Berthony

Start here. Once you render a video it's a video. If you want to do more with the composition then you have to open the After Effects Project file you used to create the composition. It's the same way with any video editing app. You render the video and it's done. If you want to edit the pieces you have to open the program used to create the edit and edit it again.
Really basic stuff here. You have to go through the baiscs or you will be wasting your time.
