Android native extention errors

Hi Everyone,
I'm currently working on creating an Android ANE for native alert popups. I'm now at the point where I think my both my Java and AS3 code is good to go but I'm getting an error when I try to use it.
Main Thread (Suspended: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.)
My problem is I'm really not sure where this error is coming from. My thinking is that I'm not building the ANE file correctly or something is wrong in my extension.xml file but I'm really not too sure.
I'm going to try to provide as much information as I can about how this project is set up. Right now I'm trying to use this ANE in a small, testing application.
First, the folder setup:
ANEextensions-
Alert_Java (holding my Java project)
(Android/Java created assets. Not sure if these are important or now. If so I will list them)
src
com
fa
ne
android
AlertContext.java
AlertExtension.java
ShowAlert.java
Alert_AS
bin
AlertAndroidAS.swc
src
Alert.as
extension.xml
I'm not going to bother posting my java code as I think it's correct. but if anyone who is willing to invest some time in helping me with this issue wants to take a look please let me know.
This is my extensions.xml file
<extension xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/extension/2.5">

<versionNumber>1.0</versionNumber>
<platforms>
<platform name="Android-ARM">
<applicationDeployment>
<nativeLibrary>AndroidAlert.jar</nativeLibrary>
<initializer>com.fa.ne.android.AlertExtension</initializer>
<finalizer>com.fa.ne.android.AlertExtension</finalizer>
</applicationDeployment>
</platform>
</platforms>
</extension>
And this is my Alert.as file:
package {
import flash.events.EventDispatcher;
import flash.external.ExtensionContext;
public class Alert extends EventDispatcher{
public static var extContext:ExtensionContext = null
public function Alert(){
super();
extContext = ExtensionContext.createExtensionContext("com.fa.alerts", null);
public static function androidAlert(aTitle:String, aMsg:String, aNeg:String = "Cancel", aPos:String = "Ok"):void{
extContext.call("showAlert", aTitle, aMsg, aNeg, aPos);
And this is my stub app I'm using to test

<s:View xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" title="HomeView">
<fx:Script>

protected function spawnAne(event:MouseEvent):void{
var a:Alert = new Alert();
Alert.androidAlert("test","testing");

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>

</fx:Declarations>
<s:Button click="spawnAne(event)" />
</s:View>
Now clicking on that button is what causes the error.
I don't have any kind of swc or link between my testing app and the AS3 Alert_AS project. I'm using Flash Builder 4.6 to import the ANE file using the IDE tools.
To build my ANE I'm using a lightly modified bash script from this post: http://gotoandlearn.com/play.php?id=149 by Lee Brimelow
# path to YOUR Android SDK
export AIR_ANDROID_SDK_HOME="my sdk"
# path to the ADT tool in Flash Builder sdks

# grab the extension descriptor and SWC library

cp ./${LIB_FOLDER}/bin/*.swc ./build/ane/
unzip ./build/ane/*.swc -d ./build/ane
mv ./build/ane/library.swf ./build/ane/Android-ARM

-swc ./build/ane/*.swc \
-platform Android-ARM \
-C ./build/ane/Android-ARM/ .
echo "****** ANE package created *******"
I know this is a bit long but any help would be greatly appreciated! And feel free to let me know if you need some more elaboration

I know this is an old post but I'm running into a similar situation - my ExtensionContext is NULL. I've worked through all the examples I can find and I can't get my own ANE functional.

• Android Native Extension cannot find implementation for .so functions

I can load some .so libraries but can never call any of their functions. All these .so files are known good and work when I publish/install an Android app via eclipse. But any time I try to call functions from an Air native extention I either get "cannot resolve" or "no implementation found" This occurs after I manually call System.loadLibrary() or use a static block as sampled below. Does the static block have to be on the main activity? I ask because all the LoadLibrary samples I find are always on the Activity. Not sure how to pull that off from my jar file, since Adobe creates the apk and owns the main activity.
So, in trouble shooting I've back tracked to a known good .so file by using the hello_jni sample at http://developer.android.com/tools/sdk/ndk/overview.html#tools
I can instantiate the my native jar extension and even call my FREFunction.
I slowly step through a simple sequence that first instantiates my NativeHello.java class
package com.example.hellojni;
public class NativeHello
public static String libName = "hello-jni";
static
System.loadLibrary(libName);
public native String stringFromJNI();
At instantiation, Logcat reports...
Trying to load lib /data/data/air.air.Vuforia/lib/libhello-jni.so 0x406d9938
Added shared lib /data/data/air.air.Vuforia/lib/libhello-jni.so 0x406d9938
No JNI_OnLoad found in /data/data/air.air.Vuforia/lib/libhello-jni.so 0x406d9938, skipping init
So looks like library loads correctly, I confirmed by purposely removing the .so file from the apk publishing and I get different "linkage" error. So I'm confident it is loaded.
But once I call the native function stringFromJNI();
I get...
No implementation found for native Lcom/example/hellojni/NativeHello;.stringFromJNI ()Ljava/lang/String;
I followed http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/extensions/WSf268776665d7970d-2482335412ffea65006-8000.htm l
but just cannot call any functions within any .so file
Please help, my client's project is on hold because of this.

Any progress on it? I have the same problem...
Thanks

• How can you enable back the Android native Menu button in AIR 2.7?

I've noticed in AIR 2.7 for Android, that now the bottom icons in Android 3.0 Honeycomb are hidden (replaced by small dots) in AIR 2.7, whereas in AIR 2.6 they were always visible. That's cool. Since the bottom bar can never be hidden in Android 3, at least now those icons are less visible (unless you intentionally touch the bottom bar, then the icons show up for a few seconds).
BUT I also noticed in AIR 2.7 compiled apps, the native "Menu" icon is not visible anymore, even after touching the bottom bar. In AIR 2.6 you could see and press that button (which can be captured from AIR so you can show a custom settings menu or whatever).
So, quoting the subject --> How can you enable back the Android native Menu button in AIR 2.7?

There is a work around and a reason for the menu issue. Honeycomb doesn't natively support a menu softkey, it is only to support old apps comiled in phone API levels. If you compile a Honeycomb app in 2.7 or 3.0, it is expected you manage the settings within the larger tablet UI framework. See below link for more info and work around.

• JRockit out of native memory errors - what effects native memory usage

I've seen postings which suggest a way to combat out of native memory errors is to reduce the heap size. That is fine but if you have some parts of your application which run fine and others that run the system out of native memory almost immediately then you may have a code problem. So the question is what, if anything, in the java code affects the JVM's usage of native memory?

There are lots of things that affect the native memory usage. For example: the number of classes, the size of the classes, the complexity of the type hieararchy, the number of threads, the amount of code generated, the complexity of the methods and so on.
It may also be an error in the JVM that either leaks memory or temporarily uses too much memory (for example while generating code for a java method).
Not sure this was very helpful...

• Is there any sample Android Native App using MBOs?

• Android Native Extension to connect to USB device

I am working on an AIR Native Extension for Android that I want to connect to peripheral devices via USB. However, my efforts at enumerating USB devices just hang at present. (Using this library: kshoji/USB-MIDI-Driver · GitHub )
Before I get too far into debugging the code I wanted to check something more fundamental:
Can an Android Native Extension handle/bypass the dialog that Android throws for use of USB (or other) devices. ("Allow the app <AppName> to access the USB device?") I have seen a few articles for defining intents and remembering permissions in native Android apps and tried that but it seems that the dialog would still be shown at least once. (See android - USB device access pop-up supression? - Stack Overflow.)
Is my understanding correct? Is this what is hanging my app? And if so is there any way to raise/handle that dialog in my AIR app or bypass it altogether?
Thanks for reading.

• Porting existing Android native app to Adobe AIR

I indent to port a existing Android native app to Adobe AIR for android. Reasons: To use my existing AS3 skills, "cost" for native is too high and soon port it to iOS.
Difficulties I face here:
Existing app package, say "com.mygame.myapp" has to be retained. By using FB with AIR SDK, we get a "air." prefix to the package name. It becomes "air.com.mygame.myapp".
Will this solution still solve the problem in AIR SDK removing "air." prefix from package name has any working solution!?.
The help link http://helpx.adobe.com/air/kb/opt-out-air-application-analytics.html is dead now. iOS specific is found here Opt-out | Adobe AIR app analytics | iOS
Please suggest me a Mac suitable solution.
In Android, using a ".keystore" file, we need to export as the ".APK" file. In AIR, if we publish using a new ".p12" signature file would it be compatible with Google Play, and it rules.
App's existing users should find difficulty in upgrading the app.

• IOS and Android Native Scroll in Adobe AIR

I think it would be a great idea to implement the smooth scroll present in native iOS and Android applications for use in Adobe AIR projects.
Currently, the only way to obtain smooth scrolling lists with images is using StageWebView to show the image list in HTML format, and then awkwardly implement some JavaScript / AS3 communication functionality so the list in the StageWebView is interactive and can communicate with the main program. This is excessively complicated and very error prone (I've found some inexplicable JavaScript errors that only happen in the iPad, not in Android, and not in the PC!).
It would be way better to be able to skip all the StageWebView process altogether and being able to use a simple AS3 API to put any sprite/movieclip into a scrollable canvas which can be moved using the iOS native scroll.
Using Flash animation to simulate the scroll in a list with images is too slow in the iPad and gives a bad user experience. iPad users expect the native iPad scroll, not some poor jerky simulation. A native scroll is the only way to go.
And even though I talk about the iPad, this should be applicable to the native Android scroll, too.
Scrolling is a VERY BASIC action in a tablet, so this should be implemented as soon as possible.
Actually, I'm amazed we're already at AIR 3.0 beta, and still after all this time nobody thought of this. All sorts of fancy stuff is being added to AIR (hardware accelerated video, webcam and microphone access, etc...) but still something as basic and important as a smooth scroll, which every tablet user expects, is still not possible in Adobe AIR. We either have to implement some slow Flash animated scroll, or use the extremely complicated StageWebView with JavaScript/AS3 communication approach (I'm using a third party library called StageWebViewBridge for the JS/AS3 interoperations, which is great, but still, it's a far from ideal solution, since it's pretty fiddly and the JavaScript code doesn't always work properly in iOS).

Hi again jackson@mja.
I've given your scroll component a try just for some static texts, and I've found quite a few important bugs:
1. If the referenced sprite/movieclip is shorter than the scrolling area, it starts bouncing infinitely in a quite funny way,
which renders the component unusable. Sometimes it even happens when the content is not shorter.
2. If your component is used inside another sprite/movieclip which is added dynamically from code ("addChild(mySprite);"),
it doesn't work and stops with an error, because the EventListener for mouseDownHandler is being added to this.stage
in the constructor, but a dynamic movieclip doesn't have access to the stage while in the constructor step (unless it is
already in the stage added in the Flash IDE, such as in your FLA example). To fix this, I've added the following code
to the ScrollArea() constructor:
this.addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
this.addEventListener(Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE, close);
And then I've added the following listener functions:
private function init(event:Event):void {
this.removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
this.stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, this.mouseDownHandler);
private function close(event:Event):void {
this.stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, this.mouseDownHandler);
3. Also, the scrollbar is only correctly rendered if the scroll area is located at the up and left corner of the stage. To put text somewhere else, the component must be put inside a movieclip.
4. This is not really important, but I've found the following variables are never user and so I've removed these lines:
var xy:Point = this.localToGlobal(new Point(this.x, this.y));
var wh:Point = this.localToGlobal(new Point(this.width, this.height));
var sign:int = sign(obj[i]);
I hope this can help you improve your classes.
Best regards,
OMA2k

• AIR for Android - Native activity is destroyed when app is resumed by clicking on the app icon

Hello,
I have created a native extension which launches a native android activity with a simple view in it by firing an Intent.
The issue is that when we minimize the app and resume it by either choosing the app icon from apps menu, Android automatically calls the onDestroy of the native android activity and kills it.
I have no idea from where else can the onDestroy function be called? I need to figure out a way to stop the native activity from being destroyed on app resume.
The code to launch the native activity is something like this:
Intent intent = new Intent("com.app.myAcivity");
intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
context.getActivity().startActivity(intent);
The entry for the activity in the manifest goes like this:
<activity android:name="com.app.myAcivity"/>
I have read a lot of blogs and SO questions but could not get around this issue. Please help.
I don't have this problem with native Android app.
Thanks.

Greetings Heather,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Podcasts app. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,

2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
"System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
supply the source code.

Hi,
the error DbpError -28814 denotes that an object cannot be found.
Can you maybe tell me your exact liveCache version (incl. Build level) and LCA Build?
Additionally, please copy the relevant error information from the file (/sapdb/data/wrk/<SID>/)knldiag.err into this thread.
Which exact 'liveCache test program' are your referring to (which of the /SAPAPO/... transactions)?
Kind regards,
Roland
