Another internet connection failure

I have an iMac G5, Macbook, and PC Laptop hooked up to an Airport Express Base Station. I will suddenly lose internet connection (not network connection) with the iMac while the Macbook and PC run fine. If I turn off the G5's airport card and turn it back on, it internet will start running again, but only for a minute or two. I have seen many posts on here with the exact same problem, but have yet to see a solution. Is there some type of buffer that is getting full? I can't figure out why resetting the G5's airport will only fix it for a few minutes.

You would do better re-posting over in the AirPort Express Forums where the Airport users hang out.

  • Safari - Internet Connection Failures

My fathers Mini Mac has started to play up when using Safari. When surfing, the connection will appear to have been lost and no page can be loaded. The only apparent solution is a restart.
I downloaded Google Chrome to see if that was affected in the same way. It appears to be affected too.
What is strange though, is that Mail seems to run and connect fine after the browser failure. My iPhone has a full internet connection, so no problems with the wireless.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Make sure it's not a proxy...
Open System Preferences / Network then click the Advanced button then select the Proxies tab.
If any of the boxes are checked on the left under: Select a protocol to configure: Deselect the boxes then click Ok.
    Restart the Mac.
And just to make sure it's not a connection issue, click the Assist Me button then click Diagnostics in System Preferences / Network. If any of the buttons on the left are red, click Continue.

  • Longterm internet connection failure

Suddenly while surfing my internet connection dropped out. I am using an "unwired" modem connected by ethernet. I tried replacing the ethernet cable, it did nothing. I tried the modem on another computer and could get connection. On my computer i ran Network diagnostics which showed the built-in ethernet was fine, the network settings were fine, and the ISP, ineternet and server were all failed.
The modem showed adequate reception but the status light at the back for PC activity was blank. I contacted the ISP helpdesk and they could detect the modem but not my computer. At a loss I backed everything up and started again from scratch, deleting everything and rebooting.
And SUCCESS ... for three days.
And so it begins again. This time I ran diagnostics in disc utility also and came up with nothing. I tried Mac support and the only suggestion the internet trouble shooting document had which I hadn't tried was to run a hardware test, unfortunately my macbook did not come with a hardware test disc and so I am out of options.
Rebooting every three days doesn't seem like a very practical solution. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have tried changing the ethernet cabl, it made no difference. I tried tghe modem (and both ethernet cables) on a different computer and there were no problems. I tried all of that sort of stuff first before I tried rebooting. Cheers though

please someone that you know how to set the internet connection on solaris dev exprres using the dhcp that serves on cable modem.
i dont believe that be more complicated than Linux or FreeBSD
    Thanks.

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
(OPTIONAL) While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • Another Internet Connect damaged or incomplete

I had this message it occured when I tried Apple care to solve a problem, I was unable to get Dsl working and as they were working through it they had me double clik on Internet Connect up came "Internet Coonect is damaged or incomplete". They sugested reinstalling Mac X ( I did not like that thought).
I have a MacPro for a little over a year useing 10.4.9 with a dialup connection as you can imagine it is slow. When hooking up Dsl from the same company I had a problem hooking up a Speedstream 5260, was useing Ethernet 1 got message "the cable for Ethernet 1 is not plugged in" and somewhere in there I also got "could not find PPPoe server". I first asked the Isp if they could help and all setups seemed to be correct. I had Bell come in and lines are all good. I then took modem over to Isp and hooked up a laptop (Xp) used my id and it worked fine.
I did as was suggested by Niel to Freek earlierand used Pacifist for first time seemed like a life saver, the icon at least changed from an Application icon to the Internet Connection icon Ver.1.4.3. I have got to the second stage and not quite sure, the original disk is 10.4.7, I have saved a download of 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 ("MacOsxUpd10.4.9Intel.pkg") the combo's were a bit too long for dialup, do I just double click on "pkg" and cross my heart.
I also am experiencing lots of hangups on dialup for last few days,3 just writing this.
    Thanks in advance

I have been up on dialup for 7 mins+ a record for the last few days with the header compression checked I think that is solved thanks. On question #1 I found an update to Internet connect on 10.4.8 only and have updated system with it. Will check out if works out with Dsl in next couple of days.
Thanks again I will have a few more questions I'm sure but it's a learning curve.

  • IPad internet connectivity failure

I was sailing along with my 40-hour-old iPad2, getting all the apps in the right folders, setting up and using email accounts, having a wonderful time surfing the web. And then, Wham! My brand-spanking-new 32GB White Wi-Fi model decided it didn't like the Internet and refused to join the rest of the civilized world.
After talking to an Apple rep, quitting the home network and rejoining it a couple of times, doing a complete Restore (there goes all those hours spent moving apps into folders and getting the settings for sounds, etc., almost right) twice. Nothing.
I've got an appointment at the Indianapolis Apple Store tomorrow afternoon. If that minor problem cannot fixed by the good folks at Keystone, where the connectivity issue did not raise its head while there Friday on a couple of other issues (did you know your Touch, and possibly your iPad, can have slooooow issues if you leave apps running in the latest version of iOS? By double tapping the home button and holding down an app icon at the bottom, the jiggles begin, the minus sign pops up and you can immediately close all those little guys making the Touch run slowly). But then, last evening ...
Is it possible someone in this community has found a similar problem and has found a solution?

  • Internet connectivity failure

We are using a TC as a Wi-Fi to access internet. Around 12 people are connected to it, but some of them -some times only- don't have access to internet, although they have local access. What could be happening?

Ok.. I woud do a few things..
First of all, load 5.6 utility into a computer.. any windows computer.. easy.. any Mac up to lion.. easy.. and Mountain Lion is a bit hard but can be done.
Only 5.6 utility has access to the log and access to the wireless client graphs. v6 is useless.
See below for how to install 5.6 if you only have ML
I recommend a new clean setup of the TC..
where you change all names to SMB compatible.. this is important for non-apple devices.. and will help iOS as well.
Short names.. less than 20 characters.. no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
Give a different name to 5ghz. This is important because it will allow you to control the load.. some devices can only use 2.4ghz but some will do either band.. if you force some of the load to 5.6 it will work better.
Time Capsule works on both bands.. but by default, almost nothing joins 5ghz unless you force it.
WPA2 Personal security only.. Use a 10-20 character password.. pure alphanumeric.
    Now the most important part.
Use manual radio channels.. fix it yourself to what works best.. for 2.4ghz try in order.. 11, 6. 1
and for 5ghz try any of the low channels.. 36-40.
So the setup looks like this. (in 5.6 utility of course).
Your country will of course be different.
Then you can see the wireless log info.
I would also make sure that the dhcp server is set to a fairly short lease time to ensure you don't run out.
Since the TC is bridged you would do that on the main router.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Another Internet connection issue

The internet on my MBP works maybe 60% of the time. Either pages don't load or I get sent to my ISPs page saying "x" website cannot be found (actually, now the OpenDNS version). All other Macs (all running the latest OSX Leopard updates) and PCs in the house work perfectly fine, as does Vista in BootCamp.
I've seen the other topics, but nothing - and I mean NOTHING - has fixed this. Here is a list of things I tried:
Switched to OpenDNS on my computer AND router (an 802.11n Airport Extreme).
Ping every 5 seconds (didn't help so I stopped this).
    Repaired Permissions.
    Disabled log-in items.
    Reset PRAM.
And here is the kicker... performed an Archive and Install (and then tried the above again).
Nothing. I can't even Sync 1Password, MobileFinder or BeatMaker on my iPhone with my Mac because of this. What on earth is going on here? I have a friend that has the same issue, so it has to be something in Leopard. Short of a clean install (I even have my doubts there) is there any hope?
    Thanks a lot!

There's always the possibility it could be a hardware issue with the AirPort Extreme card in your MBP.
Do you see any messages in your /var/log/system.log that might explain the issues?

    Hello:

  • Load Balance unequal internet connections

We have a single site customer with a 2821 router with a T1 internet connection. They recently added another internet connection which is a wireless broadband connection with 2Mbps/1Mbps rates. My goal is to be able to utilize both internet connections to load balance the traffic as well as using the T1 as the primary and the wireless as secondary if the T1 goes down. We have a NAT pool setup and some static translations on the T1 addresses for things like the internal mail server, VPN, etc. What are some of the things to be cautious about when trying to set this up?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevin
There are several things to be cautious about in the situation that you describe. One is the possible impact of assymetric paths. This occurs when data goes out over one connection and the response comes back over the other connection. Another possible issue is whether the translations that you are doing for traffic out the T1 would also work for the secondary connection or whether different translations are called for.

My ipod 5th gen says it is connected to the internet and i can go on apps that require an internet connection but whe i try to use the weather or another app that uses your current location it cant find me???

If you open the Maps app where does that say you are located?
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • Why does my iPhone not show up in iTunes on a mac that has a shared internet connection from another mac?

I have what I would consider a difficult question. I called Apple Care and after she spoke to a senior advisor, the representative ended up saying it wasn't possible.
Having said that, I'm sure this is not a difficult question for people with networking expertise.
    Setup
So...I have a MacBook receiving a WiFi signal via AirPort.
In System Preferences, I have turned on Internet sharing (share airport over Ethernet).
I connected the Ethernet port on my MacBook to the Ethernet port on my MDD PowerMac G4.
At this point, I can successfully browse the web, perform software updates, and view other computers and iTunes libraries on my network from my G4.
    Goal
However, in iTunes on my G4 I would like to use iTunes DJ.
    Tried
    So...I click on iTunes DJ.
I set the settings (button in bottom right) to allow guest remotes, etc.
I turned on iTunes Home Sharing (logged into the same account as by iPhone).
    Problem
However, from the Remote app on my iPhone, I am unable to see the library on my G4.
Also, if I want to pair my iPhone Remote app with iTunes on my G4, I click add Library in the Remote app, but iTunes on the G4 never displays my iPhone in the left column (although I am able to see all other iTunes libraries being shared on the network).
Thus, I cannot connect to iTunes as a guest Remote, nor can I connect as paired remote.
I have successfully done both of these things with computers connected directly to my modem, as well as with computers connected via WiFi.
The problem is connecting devices to computers that get their internet connection though another computer via internet sharing.
    Question
So my question is about Internet sharing itself. Is it not a fully featured ad-hoc network? Does it only provide browsing capabilities and the ability to browse networked computers, but NOT devices such as an iPhone? I don't see the difference; my iPhone is on the same network as the computers, so why is there no communication between it and computers that gain their Internet connection through another computer?
I really hope someone out there who is an expert in networking can help me out with this. Or if it truly is impossible, if someone could explain to me why that is the case, I would also appreciate it.
ps. I usually have my MacBook sharing its Internet connection through an old router that I am using as a switch because I share the connection with three other computers. And if it isn't obvious, the modem is downstairs, and the MacBook, old router being used as a switch, and other computers are upstairs where there is no Ethernet wired.
Thank you in advance for any help.
