Another NoClassDefFoundError

I'm new to java so I'm not sure whether this should be in the newbie forum.
I'm using netbeans and I'm trying to write my first java application. My app compiles without any errors, but it won't run when double-clicked. Running the app from the command line (java -jar filename.jar) returns:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/netbe
ans/lib/awtextra/AbsoluteLayout

        at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source)
        at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source)What am I doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

You can use Jarhoo (http://www.jarhoo.com) to search for jar files containing specific classes whenever you get a NoClassDefFoundError message.
Just type the name of the class causing the error into Jarhoo (in this case org/netbeans/lib/awtextra/AbsoluteLayout) and any jar files containing that class in the database will be displayed.
I have just performed a search and the class you need is in the AbsoluteLayout.jar located in the ide4\modules\ext directory of your netbeans installation. Adding this jar file to your classpath should solve this problem.

  • ..yet another NoClassDefFoundError, though a little different

    Ok, this java tool has been running for a year now in a production env... Just a few days ago I now get:
    Error occurred during initialization of VM
    java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
    I understand that I should use -cp or -classpath or set CLASSPATH pointing to application specific classes but this is complainng about java api extensions, and of course in 1.2 (I'm using 1.4) you do not have to point to the classes.jar file any more (never mind that it does not exist in 1.4 .) Also if I reinstall the jre it works for a night or so and then starts acting the same way. What gives? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Also if I reinstall

    Deny all users access. And run the latest virus checkers.

  • Another NoClassDefFoundError Query

    Sorry - I know that this is similar to previous queries, but I couldn't find the answer in the previous posts.
    I have a very simple executable jar file, which includes in one of the classes a reference to the java.util.logger.Logger class. For some reason, when the executable is run it thows a NoClassDefFoundError exception on the Logger class. I would have thought that this should be loaded by default. I've even tried copying the rt.jar file into the executable jar and referencing it directly in the class-path bit of the manifest, but without success.
    This is really doing my head in and I'm sure there's a simple explanation - help much appreciated. I'm using the 1.4.2 of the JDK btw.

    OK, found the problem. My path variable had reference to old JDK versions. Once I removed these it works.

  • Yet Another NoClassDefFoundError

    I hate to post the 505th NoClassDefFoundError but I've read as many of these threads as I can stand and none of the suggestions work for me. I've just installed the JDK 1.4 on my debian box. I can compile and run a basic Hello World app using System.println, but I get a NoClassDefFoundError when I run this code:
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    public class SwingTest
         public static void main( String[] args )
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog( null, "Your text here", "Title", JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE );
              System.exit( 0 );
    }This is the error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
    at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
    at java.lang....etc, etc.
    It goes on with about 30 different classes. It compiles with no errors, but when it comes time to run, that's what I get. This is what I have in my .bash_profile as far as environment variables go:
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/j2sdk1.4.1_01
    export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/BIN:$PATHI'm running "javac SwingTest.java", then "java SwingTest".
    I've checked to make sure I'm not running kaffe by accident and I'm definitely running the right java and javac. I've tried unsetting my classpath, setting it to the current directory, setting it to JAVA_HOME/lib, setting it to JAVA_HOME/jre/lib, and just about anything else I can think of to no avail (not that I was expecting that to work after having read about how java looks for classes). Is this a classpath issue? I thought I didn't have to set it at all with 1.4. This is driving me insane! I've been playing with this for a week now, and I'm getting nowhere. I'm about to throw my machine in the garbage and go buy an abacus.
    -dudley

    btw, work as a real programmer, go and get Java SUN
    ONE Studio developin Enviourment software.
    this cheap classpath programs will be gone.Just curious - how does your choice of IDE affect classpath issues when running your code from the command line? I agree that if you run the code through your IDE, then if it compiles, 99% of the time it will run, but presumably the code isn't always going to be run through the IDE - at some point, it will be run outside of it.
    Also, while I do indeed use an IDE myself, I do resent the "work as a real programmer" comment a little; some of the best programmers I know do not use an IDE. It doesn't make them any less productive or capable.

  • Mysql and Weblogic 10.3.5

    I was working fine with mysql on weblogic 10.3.2.
    But with weblogic 10.3.5 it's getting problem.

    When I put the first in the weblogic classpath I get the following message when my application is starting

    Thanks. Mauro.

    Can you check if these classes are contained in the jars or not?
    You can also put the jar file that was working for you on WebLogic 10.3.2 in the classpath of WebLogic 10.3.5

  • Porblem with Java Proxy EJB deploy to XI through NWDI

    Situation - I have a web app in Server A (WAS7), it needs to call a java proxy in Server B (XI WAS7). I want to deploy the Java Proxy EJB into the landscape using NWDI. To do this I created an external library with public parts that contains the required jars to build the java proxies. These are aii_msg_runtime.jar, aii_proxy_xirt.jar, and aii_utilxi_misc.jar. The EJB module used part is mapped to the library's public parts. Everything builds fine and the deployment was successful into XI.
    Problem - When my web application makes a remote call to the java proxy in XI, NoClassDefFoundError occurs. The first jar that it complain about was aii_util_cimaccess.jar. I included this jar into the library and redeployed. Called the java proxy again, and got another NoClassDefFoundError exception. Now it wanted the lrcclient.jar. I included that into the library and redeployed. Now it wanted another jar. The issue is that all these jars are in the XI server and I shouldn't have to add them as part of the library. Is there a SCA out there that contains these jars, or did I just forget to mark a checkbox somewhere when creating the EJB so that it would reference the XI jars without me adding them to the library?
    Note - This architecture works fine without having to add the jars above, if I deploy the Java Proxy EJB from my workspace to XI through the SDM process available through NWDS. This only breaks when I deploy through NWDI.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Error retrieving JDBC connection from remote client (WLS 10.0)

    Hallo,
    I get an error when I try to retrieve a JDBC connection from a WLS datasource using a remote client. My Weblogic server version is: WebLogic Server 10.0 MP1 Thu Oct 18 20:17:44 EDT 2007 1005184
    I use the following code to retrieve the JDBC connection:
    Hashtable<String,String> ctxEnv = null;
    InitialContext ctx = null;
    DataSource dataSource = null;
    Connection con = null;
    ctxEnv = new Hashtable<String,String>();
    ctxEnv.put(InitialContext.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    ctxEnv.put(InitialContext.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://localhost:7001");
    ctx = new InitialContext(ctxEnv);
    dataSource = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("datasources/XXX");
    con = dataSource.getConnection();
    When I execute this code with the weblogic.jar in the classpath everything works fine. However, when I put the wlfullclient.jar in the classpath which I created using the JAR Builder Tool I get the follwoing error:

    Hi. You should open an official support case,
    but it may be that we do not support
    external client JDBC with the client jar.Actually, I misspoke. I think we do supply a client
    jar, and that may be true
    what I said, but I see you're making your own. Can
    you find out what jar you're
    loading the InstrumentationSupport class from? That's
    the original location of
    the error, and that class doesn't exist in 10.0.Hi Joe, thanks for your reply.
    First of all, let me clarify what we did and why we did it: We have a stand-alone client application that needs to communicate with a Weblogic server using the t3 protocol (we don't want IIOP or HTTP tunneling). According to the official BEA documentation (see http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/client/basics.html and http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/client/t3.html) we needed to create the wlfullclient.jar file. We did this using the Weblogic JAR Builder Tool (see http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/client/jarbuilder.html). Unfortunatley we discovered the problem mentioned in my original post when we tried to run the client with that wlfullclient.jar.
    Regarding your classloading question: The InstrumentationSupportImpl class is located in the wlfullclient.jar, so it does exist in WLS 10.0 (it is also contained in the weblogic.jar). Unfortunately this JAR does not contain the required class "weblogic.diagnostics.instrumentation.InstrumentationDebug". I searched for this class and found it in the OSGI module "com.bea.core.diagnostics.instrumentor_1.0.1.0.jar" shipped with the Weblogic server. Obviously the JAR Builder Tool did not include the contents of this OSGI bundle into the wlfullclient.jar. I tried to include this OSGI bundle into the classpath of the client app manually (just for testing purposes), but this onyl resultet in another NoClassDefFoundError. This time the class "com.bea.objectweb.asm.Constants" could not be found.
    What astonishes me is the fact that the connection retrieval works fine when we only have the weblogic.jar in the client applications classpath, but fails when we have the wlfullclient.jar in the classpaht. It seems that the t3 communication is handled completely different, depending on what JARs I have in the classpath. Also, JMS communication works fine in both cases (i.e. for the weblogic.jar and the wlfullclient.jar). The only thing that causes problems (at least as far as we have discovered) is getting a JDBC connection from a datasource. I simply fail to see why this is the case.
    Best regards,
    DirkInteresting. I hope the official support case solves your problem.
    I would like to dig further, but it's too far afield for me with
    the workload I have at the moment.

  • Weblogic 9.1 Deployment errors using the ANT task wldeploy

    I am not able to deploy applicatons using the ANT task. The same works with Weblogic 8.1. It is throwing a NoClassDefFoundError. It is looking for a class by name javax/management/InvalidAttributeValueException.
    This class file is shipped as part of jmx.jar. I tried to include it and then there was another NoClassDefFoundError that occured.
    The problem is I don't want to keep adding these different jars to make the ant deployment work. Can anyone please let me know what could be the problem.
    I am using a Windows XP OS and 1.4.2_10 as java version.
    I have added all the jars in the weblogic91\server\lib directory to the classpath.
    Also I have my apache ant tasks set in the classpath.
    Thanks

    Have had a bit of these CLASSPATH issues when jumping versions.
    Have had the best success when I create a different profile for each one, making sure the version you want is the only one defined. the main thing my profile sets is
    unset PATH
    unset CLASSPATH
    unset JAVA_HOME
    then
    export PATH=
    export CLASSPATH= the weblogic 9 one
    export JAVA_HOME= the one with 9
    or however they do it in windows, but make sure you CLASSPATH is only refencing the 9 jars

  • Java dc use another java dc with java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

    Dear All:
    I've created 2 java dc.
    I assinged the second dc as a used dc for the first dc.
    I've created a web dynpro dc and add the first dc as used dc.
    I can build those three dc without any error, but when I deploy to server and run I got an exception "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError"
    Is there anyone know how to fix it.
    thanks in advance.
    Allen.

    Hi Allen,
    I believe the following link will help you create two public parts (for Compile Time and for Runtime) of the wrapper DC and then include the Public Parts in the Used DCs of the Final Development Component.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/42/43973fade73c17e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    Without adding the Public Parts, your final DC to consume the Java Library would not show any Compile Time Error but would throw Class Definition Not Found Exception even though you deploy the wrapper DC on the Server. This should solve your problem. For any clarification you can always come back to me.

    The directory to my main class file is as follows:
    C:\tinyos\cygwin\opt\tinyos-1.x\contrib\cotsbots\tools\RobotCmd\RobotCmdGUI.class
    I wonder what else could be the problem and why there's a $1 in "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: RobotCmd/RobotCmdGUI$1" since my main class file is RobotCmdGUI
    Thanks again

    I wonder what else could be the problem and why
    there's a $1 in "Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
    RobotCmd/RobotCmdGUI$1" since my main class file is
    RobotCmdGUI
    The RobotCmd/RobotCmdGUI$1 represents an annonymous class inside the RobotCmdGUI class - probably a listener of some sort. This must be present inside the jar - it sounds like you did not put it in the jar. You can check the contents of the jar using "jar tf RobtCmdGUI.jar"

  • Calling a method from another Java file.

    I think I'm doing this right, but I'm obviously going wrong somewhere.
    In order to not have one big long java file, I've created one main one to execute the program, and another to do some of the functions. I'm using eclipse, btw.
    In the main file, I have
    currentTB = getActiveTB(playerArea);If it works, it should get send the player area variable to the getActiveTB method, and store the value it returns in the currentTB variable, right?
    In the other file, I have;
    package scenes;
    public class sceneIndex {
         private TerrainBlock getActiveTB(String areaCode) {
              TerrainBlock tBlock = new TerrainBlock();
                     **DOES STUFF**
              return tBlock;
    }I have it set up so the second file is in the source folder "resources" and the package "scenes." The problem is I'm not calling it properly. I'm missing something simple, I think. The only error I'm getting is;
    The method getActiveTB(String) is undefined...
    Where am I screwing up?
    EDIT: Yeah, I'm a rookie here trying to figure it out on my own. My computer science courses, so far, conveniently all consist of just one big java file. Easier to write, sure, but not very efficient/organized.

    Yeah, so this is still pissing me off. I'm not sure what else to do. I've tried this a million different ways, in both eclipse and netbeans. Whatever. Here's the code, I'd love it if someone could point out the boneheaded mistake I'm making. I'm getting a little frustrated at being stuck on such a simple problem.

  • Import package from one project into another

    Hello everyone,
    I have some projects.
    An enterprise and war project created in netbeans.
    I would like to use some files from one project to another. when I import
    the package I get the error-
    'package x does not exist'
    I have added the package to the project but I still get the error.
    I have also added the project to import to my glasspath but still.
    E.g.
    set classpath
    .;c:\enterpriseA;
    My next idea is to create a war project into my enterprise project and copy the files
    from the war project into it in order to use it. But I'm sure there is a better way.
    THanking you in advance.

    One mistake I keep making is that I don't add the package to the
    Dependencies of the plugin I'm writing. You have to go to plugin.xml,
    and add the package you depend on to the Dependencies section. Maybe you
    didn't do this?

    The remote reference that i get seems to not work atall.i tried to put debug statements to see if i am getting the remote reference,but the control seems to not go there itself.
    The same method if i write for another session bean it is working fine without any errors.
    Please let me know whats wrong here as i am stuck up with this issue for a long time .waiting for positive replies from your side.
    Thanks & Regards

    I also came across this error . . . the exception message seemed to indicate a problem in the HTML file. In mine, I had the HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes set to 100% -- something that is nonsensical outside of a browser context. I changed those values to some number of pixels (800 and 600, say), and the exception did not reoccur. I suggest you try the same.
