Another shot at trying to solve Mail problem.

I have a Mac Mini 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo- 2 GB ram.
I'm having problems with my new Mac Mini and Mail. Mail hasn't worked since I bought the computer. I can send email, but can't receive. I have all of the fields filled in properly:
Incoming: pop-server.wi.rr.com
out going: smtp-server.wi.rr.com
Tried ssl checked and unchecked
default ports (25,465,587)
authentication: none
service provider: Time Warner Cable-RoadRunner
What I did was download Thunderbird so I can use my email again. I have had no problems with Thunderbird- it was a plug and play situation- pretty seamless. What does it mean if I have no problems sending and receiving email with Thunderbird (with the same settings), and yet have a problem with Mail? Does it mean it's a software problem and not a problem with my ISP?
I really prefer using Mail, but so far have been unable to make it work. Can anybody offer any solutions?
Thanks,
rskover

I went back and checked everything again. All of the settings appear to be right, with the exception of the outgoing mail server- it reads "smtp-server.wi.rr.com:rskover" it seems to have added :rskover to the end. When I click on edit servers there is no :rskover at the end in the server list. Also the account is offline and when I choose bring all account online- nothing happens.
Your item 9 "type your email in the user name box"- I thought just the user name such as rskover goes in there. I get a warning if I have anything but rskover entered.
Now the computer that this Mac mini is replacing connects to mail just fine and I'm able to receive and send mail. I'm using all of the same settings- except for that :rskover showing up at the end of smtp on the Mac Mini.

  • How I solved mail problem

having suddenly not been able to get at my e-mail for over two weeks and trying everything I could read in discussions including, talking to someone in India twice, wiping disk and re-installing leopard (twice), each company was blaming the other, i did the following:
    1. made an appointment at the local genius bar here in Korea.
    2. made an appointment with the ISP provider, naturally using genius bar address, for the same time.
    3. walked into the apple store, put both computers on the desk, and waited until Kornet (ISP) showed up.
    4. proceeded to explain the situation to both of them (thru an interpreter) and suggested very strongly that they and I were not going home until this situation was fixed or I wanted my money back for the computers, all programs, and ISP payments.
    5. lo and behold, they got together after a lot of arguing and worked it out.
    6. E-mail works great, didn't find out what the problem was but I did buy them both lunch.
if I ever find out what had happened to solve it I will post it.

I am in the Seoul, Inchon area.
there are two facilities up here
one is in COEX exhibition center, by the interncontinental Hotel, really huge complex.
another is at the end of the Hannam Bridge over the Han River. this is the repair center.

  • I cannot activate icloud foto. When I click on icloud the window comes up but in seconds the possibility to click to activate foto freezes. Can anyone help. I have spent so many hours trying to solve the problem.

i am so tired. Have used many hours now to find a way to get my fotos from my Iphone to my PC'er (windows 7). I have downloaded Icloud, but I cannot aktivate "foto" When I click on icloud there comes a window, where it seems that I can click on foto. But within sekonds the 3. (foto) possibility freezes and the vindow sort of changes: You can still se the choice "Foto" but it cannot be activated. Can anyone help, please!

Thanks for the link to your system.
You have a Combination BluRay and Surround System that includes WIRELESS Rear Speakers:
Rear wireless ready: Yes, 5.1ch wireless system included, 7.1ch wireless option with purchase of SH-FX67 + SB-HS100A
This could account for why the BluRay is generating interference with your wireless network signal.
You can go thru the process of changing the wireless  channels and other changes to the Verizon Actiontec Router or hook up your old router which was working before you switched to FIOS.
FIOS has a Superior Product over any cable system and I would hate to see you leave over something that was out of their control.
By the way, looking at the picture of the rear connections for your Panasonic you would want to have an Optical Toslink cable go from the back of the Verizon HD Set Top Box (Optical Out) to the Optical In jack on the back of the Panasonic.   This connection will provide you with Dolby Digital sound (If Broadcast by Channel) while you are watching TV.  You may need to switch inputs on the Panasonic Remote to get this to work.  You may also have an Optical Out jack on the TV that could be connect as well if you are using an HDMI Cable.
Your Verizon STB  would be connected to the TV by either HDMI, Component, Composet, or Coax (Highest Quality to Lowest Quality).  The HDMI would also provide sound to your TV so that it's internal speakers would work if desired.
If you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to click the "Solution?" button so that others can more easily find it.
If anyone has been helpful to you, please show your appreciation by clicking the "Kudos" button.

  • Going nuts trying to solve Flash Problem

I'm running XP SP3 on my desktop. I can play videos on some sites, but not others (including this one from Adobe).  This is true for both IE8 and Firefox 3.5.5.  The IE8 installation has almost no addons.  I've disabled both my Firewall (Zone Alarm Free) and Anti-Virus (Avast) software.  I have no Anti-Spyware programs running.  I've looked at my /etc/hosts file and only have an entry for my localhost.
I have two laptops running virtually the identical setup and they work fine.
www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ shows that I have 10.0.32.18 installed for both IE and FF.  FF has the Shockwave Flash 10.0.32.18 (10.0 r32) plugin.  IE has the Shockwave Flash Object 9.0.124.0 and get_atlcom Class 1.6.2.36 plugins.
Under FF when I attempt to play one of the problem videos I get a white area for the video and if I right-click on it I get the menu that includes "Settings" and "About Adobe Flash Player 10...".  If I click on Settings I see the Adobe Flash Player Settings window and the Camera tab.  However, I cannot select any other tabs.  Clicking on Close and ? have no effect.
Something appears to be blocking specific sites for both browsers, but I am at a loss as to what.  Any thoughts?
    TIA

I stumbled across the answer! It had to do with Flash's Local Shared Objects  In the Flash Player Settings Manager, I changed the Global Storage Settings to "Allow third-party Flash content to be stored on your computer"
Thank goodness for windowssecrets.com which got me pointed in the right direction.

  • Experience with trying to solve the problems from 2007-001 update

I am on a C2D iMac running 10.4.8, Airport card connecting to Buffalo Airstation.
Just to share what I've done yesterday
    1. Did the archive and re-install OS X thing.
    2. Updated firmware up to the point right before 2007-001 update (used ethernet cable to download, otherwise it would have taken forever.)
Result - connection doesn't drop any more, but wireless transmission speed is really slow.
    3. Went into the Buffalo Airstaion config and changed the wireless channel.
Result - for about 5 minutes the transmission became as fast as my Core Duo MacBook on wireless (can do ~100kbps on file downloads etc.), and then it became slow again.
I will continue to try changing the channel sporadically over the next few days, but increasingly I'm starting to feel I shouldn't bother. I'm connecting via ethernet cable now, it's much faster (even when compared to when the wireless connection was at 100%). "All" that I have to live with now is the ugly cable being strewn around the house.
Be that as it may, I'm still pretty disappointed by the whole experience.

    Hey anoblegee,
If you are having issues with connecting to your wireless router, then the first thing I would check is the settings on the router to make sure they are using the recommended set up. Take a look at that and also the troubleshooting Wi-Fi articles for both Mac and iOS devices.

  • Trying to solve an unknown problem on my computer.

I am currently trying to solve a problem that has screwed up many of my applications. iMovie, Windows Media Player, and AOL Instant Messanger on my computer are all malfunctioning for an unknown reason.
I am not sure if this is the problem, but when this problem first began, I was using applications at the time called Sound Studio and Amadeus, which were sound recorder applications. I had set the microphone to line-in when I was transferring audio cassettes to mp3s. Later in the day, I noticed other applications were not working right.
When I open, iMovie, and it loads a saved project, the loading bar will not move and all of these clips (Clip 01 to Clip 244.dv) will appear in the trash as iMovie document files. These files are Zero KB and do not even exist before I load the application. Then iMovie will finally be finished opening and I usually use it to import from my digital camcorder. It will detect it, however when I click on Import, it will load the import for about a second and then the button goes back to white, like I never clicked it at all. Also, when I click on play, it will detect that the camera is playing but the clip never appears on the iMovie screen, it stays on the "camera playing" blue screen. The clip on the camcorder is playing just fine. I can import existing files from my hard drive just fine however.
With AOL Instant Messenger, it still works fine, but I have noticed that a few of the sounds are gone.
With Windows Media Player 9 for OS X, whenever I tried loading a windows media file, it would tell me that it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported. The files have worked just fine until now.
I had set the system preferences back to default before using any sound recorder applications, but it made no difference. I have tried re-installing all of these applications but that made no difference. Also, I ran virus scans with Virex 7 and ClamXav but no virus were found. Does anyone know what is causing all of this to happen?

Try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption. You may have some directory corruption.
Most Mac users are using Flip4Mac as Windows Media Player is no longer supported by Microsoft for Macs. Fip4Mac runs those files thru QuickTime.
    Cheers!

  • Duplicate Inbox after trying to solve Gmail duplicate sent messages...

.. was trying to solve the problem of duplicate sent messages with Gmail email on the BB Curve 8350. In following instructions from this message board, I instead ended up with duplicate INBOXES. Now, when I unregister and re-register my gmail account on my phone, it creates a new icon. This has resulted in my original problem being multiplied by four. What I mean is, now I have duplicate sent messages in TWO DIFFERENT INBOXES. Originally, my gmail account went to the main Inbox on the phone. I cannot delete the main message system.. HELP!

It seems I found a bug!
I now understand what happens, although don't know the reason. The symptoms are caused by the "Auto-Expunge" feature on Gmail. I disabled it and fooled around the options and this is what I discovered:
    When I set "the message will be archived when disappear from the last visible folder", the message is archived whenever I try to move the sent messages to any other folder than the "Sent" one;
When I set "move the message to trash when disappear from the last visible folder", the message is deleted and moved to trash whenever I try to move it from the "Sent" folder to any other.
In other words, for some awkward reason, Lion's Apple Mail is not handling folder-to-folder operations and Gmail thinks that the messages has been removed from the last visible folder and does with it whatever it was instructed to, which is either to archive or move to trash.
Since by disabling Auto-Expunge Gmail waits for the client to take the action, it seems that Apple Mail is sending the wrong command or sending it on the wrong timing.
I wonder is Apple is aware of this.
    Any suggestions?

  • Need Some Brain Storming Help WIth a Long Distance Mail Problem

I would really appreciate anyones input on this...
Here's the situation. I'm trying to solve a mail problem for my somewhat elderly Mother. The biggest problem is that she is 3800 miles away from me and nowhere near any sort of help or tech support (Rural Alaska) so I'm trying to sort this out over the phone.
Anyway, she somehow screwed up her mail. All of a sudden the mail she sends comes from MY account! It shows up in my mailbox as having been sent by me. She is using an iBook G4 that I gave her a year or so ago and I suppose it's possible that somehow my mail account was on there somewhere (?). It's like she accidentally switched users or something.
I have sent her Email to her normal .Mac email address and it does indeed show up in her mailbox when I check the web mail. She is running Tiger and I'm running Leopard.
I just can't for the life of me figure out what she would have done and I'm hoping that someone might have an idea. She says that the font sizes all changed as well which leads me to believe that she is indeed using my old settings and mail account.
Once again, any help really appreciated. I'm heading out of town for a week and she really depends on her email. I'm trying desperately to get this solved before I leave. Thanks!

It looks like Mail has reset its preferences, including the account settings. What follows is a more thorough explanation that should allow you to determine whether that’s really what happened and what your options would be in that case. I’ll provide the full instructions I usually provide to solve this problem when having direct access to the computer, even though you may find some of them not practical or unnecessary.
Under some circumstances (e.g. lack of available disk space, filesystem corruption, repeated crashes), Mail may discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. This file is where all the account settings are stored. As a result, all the non-.Mac account settings are lost. If you have a .Mac account, however, that account would appear to have been preserved because Mail would set it up automatically using the System Preferences > .Mac settings — but may result in a different .Mac account being automatically set up if for some reason the System Preferences > .Mac settings differ from what until then were the Mail account settings...
What’s the capacity and space available on the startup disk? Take a look at the comments about disk space in the following article, in case they apply to this case:
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder (e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down), just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This folder is where all your mail is stored.
There are at least three ways to restore the account settings:
    (1) Restore ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your mail accounts again (you may want to quit Mail and trash the new com.apple.mail.plist first to start over). If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure some of the Mail > Preferences settings. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try trashing the new com.apple.mail.plist and renaming the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Given the circumstances, there exists the possibility that com.apple.mail.plist.saved became corrupt, but that often is not the case and the settings can usually be restored by just renaming the file back to com.apple.mail.plist.
As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

Went through this step-by-step, but alas it did not solve the problem. For some reason I can download mail on my Macbook Pro and iPhone, but no my iMac. Connection Doctor shows all green lights. This started today when I was prompted to re-enter incoming mail server passwords. I re-entered passowrds yet again to make sure they were correct. Rebuilt the inBox. Connection Doctor continues to show all green lights, but am still unable to download mail to the inbox. Has anyone else ever run into this problem?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Another import Mail problem (Panther to Tiger)

OK, I have 15 email accounts in my Mail, that worked fine, albeit slowly, in Panther (10.3.9).
I just imported everything to a new macbook (10.4.8), and now some of the email accounts are not functioning properly. I get the misleading error message: The message from XXX <[email protected]> concerning “RE: YYY” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
I have not taken the new macbook's mail account online.
I have read through dozens of posts here over the past few days, and am disappointed Apple hasn't fixed the import problem from over a year ago.
Anyway, I got both the "old" Panther Mail working, and new Macbook Tiger Mail not working, so willing to "experiement" if anyone wants me to. I have seen various theories on what works and what doesn't. Some of my mailboxes are large, so I suspect that's part of the problem. In addition they were previously imported from Jaguar, and probably from original OSX 10.1, so probably contain some of the vestigial files. I suspect I need to do the fixes/cleanup in 10.3.9, then re-import them...
I also don't rebuild mailboxes because once I did it I lost all my mail (or appeared to), but I was able to recover from backup. I suspect the mbox file was probably still there, so mail was recoverable, but that experience was not one that instilled confidence in me. I'm willing do rebuild this time...
Some info on the 15 accounts I tried to transfer:
    1. dan@dc OK, 5271 messages, 152 MB
    2. info@pics OK, 54 messages, 315 kB
    3. trav IMAP, empty, (probably due to not going online after xfer)
    4. web@al OK 3 messages, 2.9 kB
    5. web@kais OK, 147 messages, 802 kB
    6. class * BAD * 238 messages, 854 kB (160 msg xferred)
    7. web@khs OK, 1248 messages, 27.8 MB
    8. dan@aa * BAD * 10419 messages, 607 MB (638 msg xferred,)
    9. cabin OK, 10245 messages, 39.6 MB
    10. news OK, 2712 messages, 4.2 MB
    11. web@aa OK, 97 messages, 1011 kB
    12. dan1 OK, 2945 messages, 11.7 MB
    13. info@dc * BAD * 2023 messages, 50.6 MB (22 msg xferred)
    14. dc@dc OK, 895 messages, 14.4 MB
    15. info@aa OK, 2484 messages, 39.7 MB
    The accounts I use most often are 1, 8, 13, 14, 15.
Frankly, I'm surprised account 6 went bad, due to small size, and last saved received email over a year old. No recent mail received.
All SENT Mailboxes appear to be fine.
I have several archive mailboxes, and they all seem fine, too.
I will do (in Tiger) the standard POP procedure posted multiple times by David Gimeno, unless someone thinks I should be doing the cleanup in Panther first...then re-import, or wants me to be a Guinea Pig and run some "tests"
Another minor thing: Mail in Panther shows how large the file is and the number of messages (below toolbar), while Tiger only shows number of messages (and unread). Any easy way to enable showing how large the mailbox is? I think it should be displayed, especially if Mail chokes on large files.
Also, is there a better, easier to use, less clunky Mail alternative that can handle multiple accounts? Entourage? Eudora? T-bird?
    Aloha,
    Dan

The real issue here is that the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken and it may fail miserably even for mailboxes that Mail 1.x could handle without a hitch. Hence, trying to “fix” any problems you might have in Mail 1.x by upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4 is guaranteed to fail and can only make things worse.
At this point, whether you go back to Mac OS X 10.3 and tidy up your mailboxes there (if that’s still an option), or want to try to fix the problem in place using the procedure I’ll post below again for reference, is up to you. Do what you find easier or more convenient. Whatever you do, be sure you keep a backup of the original ~/Library/Mail folder, so that you can try something else if things don’t work as expected.
And yes, in their infinite wisdom, the powers that be at Apple also decided to remove the status bar from Mail 2.x, and there is currently no way to know the size of a locally stored mailbox in Mail 2.x other than by switching to the Finder and checking the size of the Messages folder within the corresponding *.mbox folder in ~/Library/Mail/.
Before proceeding any further, however, you should verify/repair the disk (not just permissions), as described in the following article, in case there is something amiss in the filesystem that also has a bearing on the problems you’ve experienced:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
For a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
