Ant dependency...

In early November of 2011, I posted the following message on a thread related to Maven and JavaFX 2.0:
<<<
As a long time Maven user, I started looking into this issue. I thought I had a basic solution using shade. But, then, I ran into an UnsatisfiedLinkError against libmat.dylib. I found libmat.jnilib, but no libmat.dylib.
So I examined my application's manifest.mf, and discovered that the Main-Class attributed detailed 'not' my main class but a JavaFX-generated Main.class, coupled with Main$1.class and NoJavaFXFallback.class. I guess Main.class, generated by one of the many JavaFX ant tasks, loads the native libraries and my 'main' class. Oracle should provide the source for this code generation. Because requiring Ant, Netbeans and code generation to develop JavaFX 2.0 apps is a nonstarter.
>>>
I worked around this issue, but at the expense of an additional Maven artifact - the Netbeans generated application code calling my application. In other words, I had no direct control over my own main application code. Instead, I had to have Oracle-generated code invoke my application code.
Now, I haven't thought about this issue for nearly 2 months. But as a long time Swing developer, a direct dependency on Oracle Ant scripts and Netbeans is unacceptable. Have I misunderstood this dependency? If not, is this dependency forever or temporary?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

I think the JavaFX-generated Main.class you are referring to is also known as the "JavaFX launcher".
A description of what the launcher does is here (http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/deployment/packager001.htm):
"By default, the Create JAR command also inserts the JavaFX Launcher into the JAR archive. The JavaFX Launcher is responsible for locating the installed JavaFX Runtime and invoking the main application class using this Runtime. The JavaFX Launcher also enables the JAR file to be run by double-clicking the file. Use the -noembedlauncher option to keep the launcher from being embedded."
So, it seems the use of the launcher is optional. If you don't need or want the extra functionality the launcher provides, then you don't need to include it in your package.
To run your application without the launcher, place the jfxrt.jar file on your classpath (e.g. with the java -cp <jfxrt.jar path> -jar your jar file). As long a correct version of JavaFX and Java is installed on your machine, I believe your application should run fine. If you are just executing the class files locally for development purposes, you don't need to bother with the jar step and can just use something like java -cp <jfxrt.jar path>;. com.app.AppMain (see Command-line/Runtime.exec() JavaFX app?
To build your application, you don't need to use NetBeans or Ant scripts, for example I build apps for development using compilation and packaging tools built into intellij Idea (with jfxrt.jar added as a library to the project). I have also used modified versions of the maven script here http://truezip.schlichtherle.de/2011/10/04/updated-maven-archetype-for-javafx-2-0-in-scala (note that this example uses the optional ant tasks to get more functionality). Additionally, I have done some command line based development using the javafxpackager tool (see here How to compile JavaFX 2.0 app with javac.exe from command prompt? for a sample batch build file).
If you use the ant scripts, the javafxpackager tool, or netbeans (which just relies on the ant scripts for build) then you do have more packaging options available then if you don't use those scripts (for example binary compilation of css, inclusion of the javafx launcher, etc), but they are only desirable, not necessary, tools for development of javafx projects.
If you are interested, there are also threads on maven development on the open-jfx mailing list (http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/openjfx-dev/2011-December/thread.html, http://mail.openjdk.java.net/mailman/listinfo/openjfx-dev), you can post there to discuss the launcher or maven support if you wish.

  • PKGBUILD Tips for Funky Java App

    I'm trying to make a PKGBUILD for the GURPS character sheet program. It's a Java app, so I tried to follow the Java PKGBUILD guidelines from the wiki, but gcs has a weird build system that made things difficult. The main annoyances are that it tries to include its own JRE, and rather than running using a normal jar it includes a binary launcher for which I can't find the source.
    Here's my PKGBUILD that just tries to whip the binary package into shape:
    pkgname=gcs
    pkgver=4.0.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="An editor for building character sheets for GURPS 4th Edition."
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://gurpscharactersheet.com"
    license=('MPL')
    depends=('java-runtime')
    src="$pkgname-$pkgver-linux"
    if test "$CARCH" == i686; then
    src+='-32'
    fi
    source=("${src}.zip::http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcs-java/files/${src}.zip/download")
    md5sums=('SKIP')
    build() {
    pushd $srcdir/$src
    rm -r support/jre
    ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/default/jre support/jre
    popd
    package() {
    install -d $pkgdir/usr/{bin,share}
    cp -dr --no-preserve=ownership ${src} $pkgdir/usr/share/gcs
    ln -s $pkgdir/usr/share/gcs/gcs $pkgdir/usr/bin/gcs
    Am I doing anything stupid?

    How are you supposed to configure a package that requires Java 8? Should I not use $JAVA_HOME since that could be pointing to an older version?
    Anyway, I've produced a better package, but the build process is still kinda ugly.
    I couldn't figure out a way to use ant's bundle (which includes the JRE and the precompiled binaries), so I skipped that entirely and just copied everything myself - that let me use the recommended /usr/share/java organization. But since the app expects everything to be in one directory (with a fixed path), I had to patch it to let me configure the app directory using an environment variable.
    Here's a git repo for the files: https://github.com/silverhammermba/gcs
    And my new PKGBUILD:
    pkgname=gcs
    pkgver=4.0.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="A WYSIWYG editor for building character sheets for GURPS 4th Edition."
    arch=('any')
    url="http://gurpscharactersheet.com"
    license=('MPL')
    makedepends=('git' 'apache-ant')
    depends=('java-runtime')
    source=(
    'git://code.trollworks.com/apple_stubs.git'
    "git://code.trollworks.com/gcs.git#tag=$pkgver"
    "git://code.trollworks.com/toolkit.git#tag=$pkgver"
    md5sums=('SKIP' 'SKIP' 'SKIP')
    prepare() {
    cd "$srcdir/toolkit"
    git apply "$startdir/set_app_path_from_env.patch"
    build() {
    cd "$srcdir/apple_stubs"
    ant
    cd "$srcdir/toolkit"
    ant
    cd "$srcdir/gcs"
    ant
    package() {
    install -d "$pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs"
    find "$srcdir" -name '*.jar' ! -name '*-src.*' -execdir install -m644 {} "$pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs" \;
    mv $pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs/gcs-*.jar "$pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs/gcs.jar"
    install -d "$pkgdir/usr/share/gcs"
    cp -dr --no-preserve=ownership "$srcdir/gcs/Library" "$pkgdir/usr/share/gcs"

  • Jdeveloper dependency on ANT script for .JAR file for ADF Application

    Hi all,
    We need to create a .jar file for an ADF project consist of Model & viewcontroller. We are able to create jar file with help OjDeploy in my ANT script.
    My query: Ojdeploy uses internally jdeveloper home to complete the task. After going through the generated script, we came to know about below two references:
    1.     oracle.jdeveloper.ant.library = ${jdeveloperHome}\\ jdeveloper\\jdev\\/lib/ant-jdeveloper.jar
    2.     oracle.jdeveloper.ojdeploy.path = ${jdeveloperHome}\\jdeveloper\\jdev\\bin\\ojdeploy.exe
    Is there any way to remove above dependencies so that we can create .jar file without installing Jdeveloper on a machine ?
    regards,
    Mohit

    ojdeploy requires a JDeveloper installation.
    Without going into the debate as to whether this is "good" or not, that's the way it works, I personally don't have a problem with installing JDeveloper on a build box (after all, you do have to install other software on the build box, too).
    If you don't want to install JDeveloper, you can hand-roll your own ANT scripts which is good for racking up the billable hours, but not so good at maintainability.

  • ANT Deployment issue. works fine in one environment but fails in other

    Hi,
    Ant script is working fine in Dev environment but is failing in the other environment. Somehow the BPEL server is not able to pick the latest deployed process , due to this the dependent BPEL processes are failing. If we restart the server , it moves forward and then fails at the point where it couldn’t find reference to the processes deployed after restart. Restarting the server at every failed interval will deploy all the BPEL processes which is not the solution.
    example : we have BPEL Processes say A, B, C, D and E. A,B are independent processes C is dependent on A, D is independent and E is dependent on D. So I have Ant script to deploy in A,B,C,D,E order. Now I run the Ant Script: It deploys A,B processes and Fails at C saying it couldn't find the process A.wsdl(But A is deployed). So if i restart now it recognizes A and B are deployed so C is also deployed succesfully it also deploys D as it is Independent but fails at E. If i restart the server E is also deployed.
    The Environment is clustered.
    Any suggestion to make my Ant script to run at a go will be highly appreciated
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hi KrishnaBhaskarla,
    I have something related to ant script, Can you please provide me the steps for deploying applications using ant script.

  • Sample ANT-generated project

    Anyone know where I can download source for a simple project that uses ANT/XDoclet and is built, verified and deployed to the Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8? Ideally, such a project would house CMP beans and an application client. I've been messing around with this off an on for ages but am constantly stymied by cryptic error messages and a glacial deployment process. For the record, I'll list ANT script that I'm using and the resultant problems. Perhaps someone will immediately recognize a rookie mistake. I'd be just as happy, though, if someone could simply direct me to a functional example that I can copy and tweak. I'd love to focus on actually learning J2EE rather than struggling with configuration issues.

    There are quite a few sample apps and blueprint apps that Sun provides. Have you looked at any ofThanks for the response. I looked over the Sun examples and can get them to work. I'm just not interested in manually writing so much code. Every bean seems to require a zillion files and configuration settings. XDoclet was supposed to help me avoid all the typing. I'd also like to steer clear of the deploytool; being able to do a complete build in one step is very important to me. I suppose I could compare and contrast with the functional examples but it's such slow going...

  • Please help...Can't find dependent libraries.

    I've searched and read, and tried several things but every time I run my application I get this:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\JBuilderX\Projects\AlwaysOnTop\AlwaysOnTop.dll: Can't find dependent libraries
         at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method)
         at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary0(ClassLoader.java:1560)
         at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1485)

         at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:834)
         at alwaysontop.MainFrame.<clinit>(MainFrame.java:108)
         at alwaysontop.AlwaysOnTopApp.<init>(AlwaysOnTopApp.java:22)
         at alwaysontop.AlwaysOnTopApp.main(AlwaysOnTopApp.java:68)
    Exception in thread "main"
    Here is exactly what I did, maybe someone can spot what I did wong:
    1) Created AlwaysOnTop like this:
    package alwaysontop;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class MainFrame extends JFrame
    static
       System.loadLibrary("AlwaysOnTop");
       //Runtime.getRuntime().loadLibrary("AlwaysOnTop"); //Tried this too...same thing
      public static native void setWindowAlwaysOnTop(String title, boolean flag);
    ...2) I then built the application
    3) I opened a command prompt and went to the classes directory just on top of alwaysontop directory. It looks like this:
    C:\Projects\AlwaysOnTop\classes\alwaysontop
    So, I was in the C:\Projects\AlwaysOnTop\classes level
    3) Next I generated the header file like this:
    javah -jni -classpath alwaysontop MainFrame
    4) Copied MainFrame.h over to the CPP project area.
    5) Created a C file (not a C++, tried that first, then tried C style after reading something that recomended it). This file looks like this:
    #include "jni.h"
    #include "MainFrame.h"
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <windows.h>
    #pragma argsused
    int WINAPI DllEntryPoint(HINSTANCE hinst, unsigned long reason, void* lpReserved)
            return 1;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_Win32Native_setWindowAlwaysOnTop(JNIEnv *env, jclass obj, jstring strWindowTitle, jboolean bAlwaysOnTop)
            HWND hwnd = NULL;
            const char *str = (*env)->GetStringUTFChars(strWindowTitle,0);
            hwnd = ::FindWindow(NULL,str);
            (*env)->ReleaseStringUTFChars(strWindowTitle,str);
            if (bAlwaysOnTop)
              SetWindowPos((HWND) hwnd,HWND_TOPMOST,0,0,0,0,SWP_NOMOVE|SWP_NOSIZE);
            else
              SetWindowPos((HWND) hwnd,HWND_NOTOPMOST,0,0,0,0,SWP_NOMOVE|SWP_NOSIZE);
            return;
    }6) Copied the DLL that got generated to thw Windows\System32 directory.
    7) Ran the application from JBuilder.
    8) Got the error...banged head into wall for umteenth time.
    Note that the java.library.path looks like this:
    C:\JBuilderX\jdk1.4\bin;.;C:\WINDOWS\System32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM;C:\DMI\WIN32\BIN;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK\Bin\.;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK\Bin\WinNT\.;C:\JavaSDKs\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin;C:\Ant\bin; ...
    So the C:\Windows\System32 is there!
    What do I need to do for Java to be able to find the dependant libraries?
    THANKS!

    Make sure your DLL exports a function named exactly
    Java_alwaysontop_MainFrame_setWindowAlwaysOnTop
    without any C++ name mangling or other mismatch. You
    can use a tool like dumpbin for this.
    -slj-
    You might be on to something. I couldn't get dumpbin working (no output...tried several options) so I used another tool and it showed the following as exports:
    Entry Point = 004020F8h
    Ordinal = 1
    Name = __CPPdebugHook
    That is all! The imports look correct, so I think there really is nothing else being exported.
    Here is what my AlwaysOnTop.c file looks like:
    #include "jni.h"
    #include "alwaysontop_MainFrame.h"
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <windows.h>
    #pragma argsused
    int WINAPI DllEntryPoint(HINSTANCE hinst, unsigned long reason, void* lpReserved)
            return 1;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_alwaysontop_MainFrame_setWindowAlwaysOnTop(JNIEnv *env, jclass obj, jstring strWindowTitle, jboolean bAlwaysOnTop)
            HWND hwnd = NULL;
            const char *str = (*env)->GetStringUTFChars(strWindowTitle,0);
            hwnd = ::FindWindow(NULL,str);
            (*env)->ReleaseStringUTFChars(strWindowTitle,str);
            if (bAlwaysOnTop)
              SetWindowPos((HWND) hwnd,HWND_TOPMOST,0,0,0,0,SWP_NOMOVE|SWP_NOSIZE);
            else
              SetWindowPos((HWND) hwnd,HWND_NOTOPMOST,0,0,0,0,SWP_NOMOVE|SWP_NOSIZE);
            return;
    }My generated header file looks like this:
    /* DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - it is machine generated */
    #include <jni.h>
    /* Header for class alwaysontop_MainFrame */
    #ifndef _Included_alwaysontop_MainFrame

  • Building a jar in an ant build.xml file

    Hi,
    i previously used netbeans to create a jar that you could doubleclick to have it automatically started (win 2000).
    The jar also included other jars like log4j, jdom and so.
    In Netbeans, i first made my project and those jars available via the filesystem. Then i just made a new jar, added my project and the startpoints of the other jars. For instance for the jdom.jar, i selected the org and everything beneath.
    Then i generated a standard manifest file and added this line:
    Main-Class: <package>/<mainclass>
    This worked ok fine.
    Now, for my question: i'm trying out ant and want to achieve the same as above. Building my project is not a problem. I specified the dependies on other jars like this:
      <target name="compile" depends="init" description="compile">
        <!-- Compile the java code from ${src} into ${build} -->
        <javac srcdir="${src}" destdir="${build}">
          <classpath>
            <pathelement location="lib/jdom.jar"/>
            <pathelement location="lib/log4j-1.2.7.jar"/>
          </classpath>
        </javac>
      </target>Compiling doesn't produce an error.
    However i can't seem to figure out how to build a jar where the root of each jar is included in the content of my own jar so i don't have to distribute the jars seperately.
    This is what i had so far for my jar:
      <target name="dist" depends="compile" description="generate" >
        <!-- Create the distribution directory -->
        <mkdir dir="${dist}/lib"/>
        <!-- Put everything in ${build} into customer-${DSTAMP}.jar file -->
        <jar jarfile="${dist}/lib/customer-${DSTAMP}.jar"
             basedir="${build}" manifest="${conf}/manifest.mf"/>
      </target>My manifest file:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: customer/clientAny idea of how to add the content of another jar to my own jar?
    Thanks

  • JSP precompilation and my .java files compilation issues /  building WAR file using ANT

    Hello.
    I am new to working with WAR files and the whole process of it. A little
    background on what we are using. We are using, WLS 6.1 SP3. I am using the
    ant.bat that is supplied in the bin directory of the WLS install.
    I am trying to work with ANT and getting it to build the file. I am making
    progress, but at a point where I am having trouble getting my java code
    files to compile using ant. I am having one issue and looking to do one
    other item.
    1) I would like to precompile the JSPs if possible prior to putting into the
    WAR file. Not sure if this is done or not, but there was a utility when I
    was working with ibm's app server that gave us the ability to do a batch
    complile. Was thinking that maybe a similair concept is possibly here.
    2) Having issue getting ant to compile code properly. In the compile
    section of the build.xml file for ant, I tell it where the source files are,
    and the destionation folder for the compiled class files. I then try to set
    the classpath so that it finds the .jar files that are necessary for my
    source files to complile. But, it won't find them. And not sure how come.
    I may be going about this all wrong, but dont know. Here is the compile
    section of the build.xml I am using:
    <target name="compile" depends="prepare">
    <javac srcdir="classes" destdir="${deploy.home}/WEB-INF/classes"
    classpath="$(lib.home)"
    debug="on" optimize="on" deprecation="off"/>
    </target>
    One note, I've tried many different items in the classpath line, which
    don't work. if I do *.jar it fails at complie time, invalid argument. As
    well as if I use *.* and so on. if I list the explicit file names, it still
    doesn't seem to find them.
    I was wondering if anyone could help, if you need anymore information let me
    know, I can send the entire build.xml if necessary. I may be missing
    items, seeing that this is my first try at using ANT.
    Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance. Hopefully not sounding too
    off the wall. Hopefully get some clarification and understanding.
    Thank you.
    Kevin.

    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/jsp/reference.html#57794
    or just set the precompile flag in weblogic.xml
    You can configure WebLogic Server to precompile your JSPs when a Web
    Application is deployed or re-deployed or when WebLogic Server starts up
    by setting the precompile parameter to true in the <jsp-descriptor>
    element of the weblogic.xml deployment descriptor.

    maybe because you are not using curly braces there on lib.home??
    if you do it the way above, you would have to list all your jars
    classpath="$(lib.home)\lib1.jar:$(lib.home)\lib2.jar"
    or you can nest
    <javac srcdir="classes" destdir="${deploy.home}/WEB-INF/classes"
    debug="on" optimize="on" deprecation="off">
         <classpath>
              <fileset dir="${lib.home}" includes="*.jar" />

  • What happened to the "marching ants" in Photoshop CS5?

    When I use the lasso tool and lasso an object, it does not show the dashed lines,
    aka marching ants, until I let go of my mouse.  Since I can not see the lasso outline,
    it is hard to tell when I get back to the beginning.  This issue also occurs with the
    crop tool and other tools.  It does not show the outline until you let go.  This is not
    good.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Rothage wrote:
    I sent a similar post here; I have had the same settings in preferences for years (with GL), and the same video card, and the "Cntrl H" does not change the "SOLID" outline to marching ants -- it use to toggle them on and off, but they are NOT there to toggle -- only SOLID line around the selection.
    Rothage, what video card do you have?
    The display driver, along with your video card, implements OpenGL, which has much complexity and many different versions and options.
    If you've had the same video card for years, and you haven't changed anything, it almost certainly needs a driver update, if not a complete replacement.  It depends on how many years, but video cards that run Photoshop well with OpenGL acceleration have only been available for 3 or 4 years, and even today driver updates are being released that enable OpenGL functions not previously available.
    Things move on.  Photoshop CS5 is using OpenGL differently than its predecessor, and it may turn out (depending on what video card you have) that to get the most out of the very latest Photoshop you'll need to upgrade to one of the very latest video cards.  The good news is that cards that run Photoshop very well can be had for well under $100 nowadays.
    I suggest, at the very least, visiting the web site of your video card maker, and updating to their latest driver release.
    You should also experiment with Photoshop's OpenGL advanced preferences, in the Edit - Preference - Performance menu.
