Antiword equivalent for OOo files?

Does anyone know of an equivalent to the excellent antiword for OOo Writer files? I imagine it would be quite easy to extract the text info from the content.xml file within the odt file, and perhaps give it a rudimentary formatting (bold, italics) to display as a plain text file, the way antiword does with Word files, but I haven't found anything of the kind.

That's what surprised me: the combination of an open format and a bloated, slow, application - it's just screaming for a quickview feature. I know there are some in the Windows world, but I don't have the necessary skills to port them. Anyone...? :-)

  • Text_io equivalent for binary files

    Hi!
    I use forms 6:
Forms [32 Bits] Versão 6.0.8.11.3 (Produção)
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
I believe that what is happening with me its a bug that maybe was fixed in some new patch for forms 6. But I can´t update now.
I´m trying to load a file (binary) from client (win) to a blob column at server.
When I use dbms_lob in forms, the form simple crashes. No error, no nothing. It just closes.
For clob i managed to make a workarround, i create a package at server and i read the text file with text_io at client side and create the clob in the package at server side.
Now I need to do the same with binary files. There is a way to read and write binary files in forms (client side) without using dbms_lob?
    Thanks.

You can't use DBMS_LOB on the client-side. DBMS_LOB is a database package and executes always on the database-server. The only chance i see with forms 6i is to somehow transfer te file to to a fileshare on the database-server (maybe ftp) and then use DBMS_LOB on that transferred file.

  • Notepad Plain Text Equivalent for html files

    Hi
I want to open an html file to see the source - in windows I would right (context) click and open with notepad.
What is the equivalent in Mac - when I try textedit it opens it in RTF and so I can't see the underlying markup.
    Thanks

Ok thanks OT - I'm downloading it. Weird - when I double-click on the DMG - nothing seems to happen?
I normally use Dreamweaver, but sometimes its nice just to do something quick and dirty with a text tool.
I'm also examining Rapidweaver and iWeb - iWeb seems to have various problems - especially the messy HTML/CSS.
    Thanks

  • IMovie equivalent for creating custom audio files

Is there an iMovie equivalent for just music?  I am trying to create a cardio routine that plays music and has recorded prompts and/or sound effects at different intervals.  I can do this in iMovie, but it's overkill and iMovie shuts down when the screen is locked.

Looked at this, but did not see where you could leverage an existing song purchased from iTunes and insert an audio recording or sound effect in the file.

Is there anything else that's wise to do to keep my MBPro HD clean and tidy, besides Repair Disk Permissions before & after downloading software ?
Not on a regular basis which isn't handled by the system. Repairing permissions should only be done to help resolve an existing issue and not before and after installing software.
Is there an equivalent for Mac OSX ?
That is handled by the OS automatically.

  • Is there an equivalent to Aperture for video files?

Between capturing video on my iPhone as well as my point and shoot camera, I now have hundreds of video files in Aperture side by side with my photos.
I'd really like to move these files out of Aperture, but I wonder if anyone can recommed a good program similar to Aperture, but just for video files? I would want it to have the capability to access files on an external drive, the same way that an Aperture library can be kept on an external drive.
    Any suggestions?

Have you considered iTunes as a movie organizer? That is where I am storing my finished movies.
Something mainly for cataloguing video as opposed to an application that is primarily for editing video.
See the iMovie help for organizing video in iMovie:
iMovie '11: Organize your videoiMovie can be used to create movie projects from your raw footage, and to store and organize video into a video library.
I use iMovie to keep all unedited clips tucked away in nested folders in iMovies "Event library; there is simply no use of having thousands of clips that badly need editing bloating up the Aperture library. And I use the "Projects" library to organize my editing projects.
The finished movies are, the ones that I want to use in slideshows and other presentations are stored in my iTunes library.
In iTunes I can tag them with Genres, titles, descriptions and other info.
iTunes lets my browse and earch them in many ways.
iTunes makes them available in the Media browser for other applications. If I need a movie for a slideshow in Aperture I add it from the Media Browser.
iTunes lets me sync the movies to my handheld devices and present them.
For my needs these tho applications together - iMovie for the clips and editing projects, plus iTunes for the finihed movies to shared are just perfect.
In iMovie: events (clips organized in folders by date and location and disk) and projects (organized in folders by topic),
In iTunes: Finished movies to be shared: properly tagged and captioned for searching and sharing
This workflow lets me keep the clips of current editing projects on my mac. Once the movie is finished, I use iMovie to relocate the events with original clips and the project to an external drive and keep only the edited and finished movie in iTunes. But the iMovie event library will till show me, which drives I need to connect to give me easy access to all older events and projects.

    Hi Steve,
You can bring the GRC framework to a state equivalent to a raw install by following options:
Option 1.) You should have a base-line backup before GRC installation. If so then apply that base-lin backup and deploy GRC components. If there is no base-lin backup, then
Option 2.) Uninstall and re-install J2EE and then follow up with rest of the installation process. If you don't want to go through re-install process, then
    **Correction to Option 3**
Option3.) SAP is in process of creating a SAP Note for Delete script, Instead of delivering Delete Script script via OSS message.  Will update you as soon as the Note gets released.
Please refere to Note # 1416728 to Manage your deletion in RAR 5.3 SP10.

  • Looking for chmod equivalent for Windows

A little back story, I've managed to cobble together an After Effects psuedo plugin installer for one of my upcoming scripts. One hiccup was dealing with file permissions, to properly install the plugin. After many searches, trial & errors, and finally help from Lloyd Alvarez I managed to get a proper working piece of code for updating file permissions on Mac. there's a lot more to the code, but this is the primary permissions update snippit.
    system.callSystem("chmod u+rw \"MyFilePath\"");
Now I am in the process of finding a Windows equivalent to this. I found info on CACLS ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490872.aspx ), but have been seeing tons of "it doesn't work...", "not compatible with newer os..." and such around the interwebs. Not sure if anyone here can expand upon those claims. I ideally would like to use something that is as universal as possible with Windows 7, XP, Vista. Worse case scenario, I would just provide instructions so the user can manually change the permissions, but I am trying to simplify the process by keeping the user from having to dig into files on their system. Would love to hear any thoughts. Thanks.

The command to do that is attrib dating from the old dos time. Go to this microsoft page to get all the info about it : http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/attrib.mspx ?mfr=true

  • How small is small for a file?

When choosing the filesystem to use I went and read the differences between them. Basically it seems to me that
the main differences are in performance depending on the file size.
Now, the question is they often say this or that fiesystem is good for small files, or good for big files but they never
give you a real size you can use. So when they say small, what size is that for a file? And when they say big, how
big is that? Is an OOO (.odf) file big or small? What about music files (3-5 Mb) or photos (2-4 Mb)?
And how is ext4 now compared to the already existent ones (ext3, jfs, xfs)?
    Thank you.

To me small files are files in size of couple of KBs to couple of MBs, like source code where most of files are under 4KB. Medium files are some docs, photos etc., large files - CD images and stuff. Transition between small, medium, large are tricky, coz see, if one say files are big over 700Mb, he should admit that 400Mb file in fact is not that small either...
I don't really know what do *they* mean saying small, though People usually say that that particular filesystem is good for some purpose, like mail-server, media server (video content) or so.
Personally I use reiser4 on my /home and /opt because of transparent compression, tail packing and speed, but I will never use xfs for that, because xfs is really slow for dealing with small files, especially delete, but I use it at home on my media partition with files > 1Gb, additionally xfs does use more than 99% of space after formatting I'm fed up with ext3 because it constantly corrupted itself after some heavy usage on my laptop which is suspended/hibernated every day (I could recover every time w/o a problem). / is more or less r/o, i left ext3 on there...

I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac. The drive is not listed in Disk Utility.  Any suggestions?

Is the computer in you equipment line:
    Dual Core Intel Xenon
(which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?
If a Mac Pro, their forums are here:
    Mac Pro
and, as Mac Pros have a totally different architecture from the pre-2005 Macs this forum covers, you may not have the same issues that can affect the older models. If someone didn't notice your equipment line, you could get advice that doesn't apply.
If you really have a pre-2005 PowerMac, read on.
If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer.

  • File Server Role: Slow access for "opened files" and slow Explorer browsing

Since we migrated our fileserver from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 we are facing two major problems:
    1. Opening files which are already opened by other users takes about 1 minute before the file actually opens. This is not only for Office files such as Excel and Word, but also for other (not office) files. Again, this problem only rises when the file(s)
is/are already opened by another user. There seems to be a sort of "Lock" check time which is about 45 to 60 seconds.
    2. The other problem is browsing via Explorer through the network drive (all clients are Windows 7 clients). Half of the time there is some kind of "hick up" with displaying the results of the folder. I cannot figure out a patern, but if there
is no "hick up" then browsing is very fast (also in the busiest times of the working day)... If there is a "hick up" the result can take about 50 seconds to display the content of a folder.
I suspect the SMB implementation / settings of Windows Server 2012 which are causing the problems...
    Things I tried:
    1. Changed the Oplocks wait time to 10 seconds (which is the minimum). The result is that openening files does indeed go some faster (still taking about 45 seconds).
    2. Disabled SMB2: the result is that browsing is fast... Opening files does go faster. BUT: we are then facing other problems like some files are not able to open... This setting was, after getting a lot of complaints from the users, changed back to enabled
    SMB2.
    3. Within the NIC card properties I disabled "QoS packet Scheduler", "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver", "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder" and IPv6 (as we only use IPv4).
All above with not the promising results.
The server is a dedicated (virtual machine on vSphere 5.1) fileserver.
Please Advice since this is not workable, and we have postponed the migration of the fileserver for our aother location.

    Hi Dave,
I suggest you disable all third party applications like Anti-Virus application to test if it could reduce the waiting time when accessing a file.
