Looking for chmod equivalent for Windows

A little back story, I've managed to cobble together an After Effects psuedo plugin installer for one of my upcoming scripts. One hiccup was dealing with file permissions, to properly install the plugin. After many searches, trial & errors, and finally help from Lloyd Alvarez I managed to get a proper working piece of code for updating file permissions on Mac. there's a lot more to the code, but this is the primary permissions update snippit.
system.callSystem("chmod u+rw \"MyFilePath\"");
Now I am in the process of finding a Windows equivalent to this. I found info on CACLS ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490872.aspx ), but have been seeing tons of "it doesn't work...", "not compatible with newer os..." and such around the interwebs. Not sure if anyone here can expand upon those claims. I ideally would like to use something that is as universal as possible with Windows 7, XP, Vista. Worse case scenario, I would just provide instructions so the user can manually change the permissions, but I am trying to simplify the process by keeping the user from having to dig into files on their system. Would love to hear any thoughts. Thanks.

The command to do that is attrib dating from the old dos time. Go to this microsoft page to get all the info about it : http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/attrib.mspx ?mfr=true

  • Looking for Windows files on a Mac

On my Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.4 Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 when starting a existing project I get a message about a file the program is not able to load.
So it asks me to point the location. The question is as follows: Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
I'm using a Mac and when I search for the file it's not on my computer.
It's looking for a file in a curtain folder.
Could you give an advise what to do?

    Hello A.T. Romano,
I’m using Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    Version 12.1 (20140225.12.1.620828)
I get the message when opening an already made project in which I added a Title.
In the ones without a title I don’t get the message.
So it is something connected to the use of titles.
I used RedBulbs as a title.
When I click ‚Skip’ or Offline my project opens correctly and I don’t miss any media. Even the title part is OK.
I hope this describes the problem enough and hopefully you can give me some advise.
    Best regards,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on your Mac computer?
    Do you ever get this
    Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
when you open a new project or do you get this message only when you go to open an existing project?
If only for existing projects, then please tell us if this existing project was created with title templates and/or Instant Movie themes.
    If so please detail.
If you click "Skip" to the "Where is the file....?" message, does your project open without problem? And if so, do you see any missing media
displays in the workspace? And if so where?
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • I'm looking for Windows Apple Configurator for iOS7.

I am looking for the Apple Configurator for Windows that supports iOS7. I need to install a CA certificate on my iPhone and iPad. Does anyone know where I can find the utility, when it will be available?  Are the other options to install a certificate?
    Thank you.

I just noticed that the apple configurator app for MacOS was updated yesterday to add ios7 support, so hopefully the iPhone configuration utility for windows won't be too far behind.
On the other hand, I did just go through the existing profile I had from ipcu 3.62 and made a few changes, removing payload properties that weren't listed in the reference and also were not something obviously necessary.  After that, it seems that the mobileconfig file will apply to an ios 7 device, so that might get me what I need for now.

  • Looking for Windows Decorations for Netbook

I'm struggling to find any window decorations that will fit nicely on my netbook screen. I'm running Xfce on a 1024x600 screen.
    http://i.imgur.com/6aXuggM.png
Here's a screenshot of my setup so far, as you can see the window decorations are quite large, I'm looking for a minimalist and small set of window decorations, I'm open to any colours at the moment.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I guess you already checked http://xfce-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=420, there are few that are quite minimal. You could also try tweaking the xfwm themerc for any theme to make it more compact.
If you're feeling adventurous, you could switch to some tiling wm, and get rid of window decorations altogether. There are floating window managers with smaller decorations as well, for example openbox.
Also, most of GNOME applications are client side decorated and don't draw window borders at all, so switching to those could save you some screen estate too.
Sorry I didn't really answer your question, but I wanted to point out a few alternatives that may help your situation.
Btw, you shouldn't post full size images, but a thumbnail with link instead, or you'll make mods angry

  • Mac Mini stuck looking for Windows Boot Disk! Please help

Hi all, I've been running Leopard on my Mac Mini off a FireWire hard drive enclosure. The 750gb hard drive in the enclosure is a drive I used to have in my old iMac.
When I had my iMac I'd installed Windows via Bootcamp. So when running, the Mac Mini would show a Windows partition on the Leopard desktop. Today I needed to do something in Windows. so I went to Sys Prefs > Startup Disk and chose to reboot into that Windows partition. BIG MISTAKE
Now whenever I turn the Mini on it looks for a Windows partition and tells me it can't find one. I've tried resetting the PMU, booting from Leopard DVD, holding Option, nothing works. The only thing that will work is if I put a Windows XP disk in and it will try and take me through the install process.
How on earth do I get my Mac back booting into Leopard!?
Message was edited by: Thomas Robinson

I can't believe it was just the new Apple thin Alu Keyboard causing it! Plugged in an old Apple USB one and I got the Option startup menu straight away, totally bizarre!

  • Looking for "Window Manager\Window Manager Group" SID

Hi. I am trying to find the SID for "Windows Manager\Window Manager Group". If anyone has that, I'd appreciate it. I am trying to build my "base build" Security Template for Server 2012, and I need to assign the default User Rights to that group, as it is
out-of-the-box. Problem is that the GUI does not accept that group name as valid, but I can see that the group is assigned user rights in the Local Security Policy. I typically just use a file ACL to do this (add the ACE and then run
icacls to get the SID), but that group name is not valid within that tool either. My guess if that this new "Windows Manager\Window Manager Group" group is a well-known SID. Thanks.

Ironically the SID is not listed on Microsoft's web page for well know
SIDs. I also noticed that when I dump the local users using powershell, every group and user is listed that I would expect to see, but this one is not in that list. It seems like it should be pretty easy for Microsoft to say what this does and when it can
    be safely removed...
I figure one of two possibilities. Either this only matters when a specific feature is installed / active, or it is some remnant from development for a feature or implementation that didn't make it into the release to manufacturing. What ever the case it
would be nice if we could get clarification.

Something, most likely some variant of the Nimda worm, is trying to infect your Web Server. There's little you can do to stop this. Fortunately, only Windows machines running Microsoft IIS are vulnerable, so you can safely ignore the resulting error messages.

  • Looking for windows Virtual Iron 4.3.8

we are trying to get caught up to the current version but need to upgrade to 4.3.8 before we can upgrade to 4.5.16. We have the 4.5 installer but we are unable to locate the 4.3. • Install Instructions for Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 running in Boot Camp

These are the instructions I used to install Windows XP Mode on my 27" iMac while booted into Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on the Boot Camp partition, I posted them in a reply to another thread but thought they might be useful as a higher level topic.
Reboot into Windows 7 on your iMac and follow these instructions:
    1. Download and install Windows XP mode from the following Microsoft website. You do not need an XP installation disk, XP will be installed automatically by this process (there are three links to click, in order, to install this. The site will perform a Windows Genuine Advantage check and you may need to make sure your browser allows certain items or the install will stall until you do, look for warnings or permissions during installation in the menu bar of the browser):
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
    2. After you complete the 3rd installation step, check your Start menu in Windows 7 and look for Windows Virtual PC. Open it and double click Windows XP Mode (it should be the only thing in there) to boot up XP.
    3. You can adjust the amount of RAM you allocate to XP mode by going to the Start Menu --> Windows Virtual PC again, then right click on Windows XP Mode, then choose Settings.
It works great but I can't get it to fill my 27" screen in full screen mode, let me know if you figure out how to do that. --thanks

    Instructions, not a question.

  • Adobe photoshop cs 3 eztended edition for windows wont re-install component failed to install.

    Hi all,
I have brought photoshop cs 3 awhile back about 2 years ago or so brand new,
and for last couple of weeks it been acting weird when i go to open photoshop it doesnt load it says the drive or network connection that the short cut is adobe photoshop is unaviable sort of error
i have attempted to un-install it but no luck and then tried to re-install it for some reason i still get that error.
It failes to un-install the compoents for photoshop cs3 when i un-install it  for some reason and when i do install it it says component installation failed.
    How can i fix this?
    Thanks,William

Try running the cleanup utility again. There are like 3 levels of cleaining if I remember right.
Also after running the cleanup utility run this if you didn't before:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Then download and install this free cleaner. It will clean up all remaining crapola left on your computer. Run the drive cleaner and also the registry cleaner.
    http://www.ccleaner.com/
After that you did not say what OS you have. If you have Vista SP2 or Windows 7 you do not need this next download. If you do need this download it is a newer windows installer 4.5 that takes care of some install problems with software. download if need be and install.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f 9f4&displaylang=en
If you have Adobe reader installed remove it.
After you get the computer cleaned out do a defrag.
Go to Start and type in services and click on services. What you want to do is look for windows install entry, look at the startup type, right click on manual, choose properties, change manual to Start, hit apply, then start the service (look for the start button), hit apply if need be, then hit ok to close out, then close the services window.
Now go start and type in msconfig and click on msconfig. Go to the startup tab and look for any Adone product that is checked and uncheck it. If nothing is unchanged then there is no need to reboot.
Ensure any anti-virus is off and windows defender is turned off.
Get your disk and insert it but don't install. Go to computer and right click on it. Choose explore and then look for the PS .exe file. you want to right click on this and choose run as admin.
Then the install screen will pop up. I am not sure when it will ask for the key so have it ready. If the key is good then it will let you know.
When ready to install you want to do a custom install. Install only on C drive. In the install options only install PS CS3 and Bridge. Then install. I don't know how long it will take.
After install reboot the computer. After reboot click on CS3 to least start it up. Shut it back down and do another defrag. Now update your software to 10.0.1. After the download is complete ensure CS3 and bridge are shut down otherwise the software will not update. After that, it is up to you, but I would reboot and do another defrag (Some other posters might think differently: too bad....lol).

  • Gt 120 driver for windows 7

Anyone have any luck?   The "right" driver from Nvidia failed to recognize the adapter. I read all about the bug fixes the new drivers address, but since I'm a Mac owner, I cannot benefit from them. Stuck with 2009 drivers.  Also, the sound in windows 7 is below acceptable, like listening to a greeting card thingy underwater.  Yet, nothing to address this either.  I'm greatful that applecare replaced my iMac awhile back, but been wishing I had my old Mac still.

    Hello @Bkumar19,
I understand that you are looking for Windows 7 drivers for your HP All-in-One - 20-2210ix. Unfortunately, according to the HP All-in-One - 20-2210ix Drivers there are only Windows 8.1 drivers currently available for your computer. • Resource Kit for Windows 7

    Hi,
I am looking for Windows Resource Kit for Windows 7 but what I have found on the internet is only for Windows 2003?
Is there any tool for win7? Because I am looking for setprinter.exe and they say that this tool is only available on Resource Kit for Windows 2003.
    Any answers are appreciated.
    Thank You!

    Hi,
Though it’s named Server 2003 resource kit, you can also install resource kit on Windows 7, but note that only few of the tools work as intended.  Some tools generate errors like ‘Dlls are missing on your computer‘
In Windows 7, when you launch the installer, you will get an error saying ‘This program has known compatibility issues“.  Ignore the warning and click on ‘Run program‘ and continue with installation.
"setprinter.exe" tools is available on Windows 7. You could have a try.
