Any info to be gleaned from this panic.log?

On June 21 and today (Aug 29) I experienced identical kernel panics with GUI freeze (i.e. no "You need to restart your computer" screen.)
Output into panic.log was identical for each. Here is today's output:
Mon Aug 29 16:31:46 2005

Other info: today (and probaby the last time) was running the machine pretty hard, lots of open windows/apps, especially browser windows, and even with 2 GB RAB had 7 swapfiles going. If that's of any relevance. KP today occurred when Camino web browser was in the middle of contacting Earthlink's webmail site.
Can I (or anybody here) glean any information from this log output, and from the fact that the log output is identical for each of the two KPs?
Not sure if this is a HW or SW post. Posting to a HW forum first. Thoughts?

The iPhone is a world phone and has both CDMA and GSM capabilities - I believe (and this is something you need to check) - the GSM portion of the Verizon phone is unlocked and will work with other GSM providers - this should be no problem for voice but I dont know if the Verizon phone supports all of the bands that carriers use for LTE worldwide - but if not it should work on 3G for data
If you want to use the phone with another CDMA provider - i dont think that is possible unless Verizon unlocks it

    Log Message:
    Bug: BLZ-92 - catch IOException and log at the info level to keep from polluting the logs
    QA: Yes
    Doc: No
    Details:
    Tomcat 5+ throws a ClientAbortException when it receives a TCP RST while writing a response to a client that has exited. This custom exception extends IOException, and we were only doing lighter INFO-level logging for SocketExceptions so the ClientAbortException was getting past this leading to ERROR level logging. This little tweak will mean less pollution of the server logs during QE load tests.

    Hi AbhijitRoy2005,
    Other then climbing in the phone and calling the vendor, you could try:
    1. To use a BufferedInputStream to wrap the SocketInputStream before you wrap that in the DataInputStream. So basically:
    DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(socket.getInputStream());On one of my implementations this made a difference of a factor of 200+! So instead of processing 500 messages per second, I could process 10000 messages per second!
    2. Or to take it to the next level and take a look at using NIO. That is New IO, available since Merlin (Java 1.4). But that would take you way more time then the first attempt.
    The thing addressed by the possible solutions above is the blocking nature of the Stream based socket handling. Using a buffered input stream reads ahead. The NIO thing is all about non-blocking IO, which uses Channels and Buffers instead of Sockets and Streams (note that these are not equivalent!).
    Of course, if you didn't change something in your own code, it might just very well be that the vendor just screwed up his ;)

    Frens

  • Could someone please help me read this panic log?

    Hi,
    I have been trying to read all the past postings on reading panic logs. Most of them start of with something different, which refers to RAM. Its been almost a month now and I haven't had any problems until this evening. Here is what the log says...

    I was working in Corel Painter, using a wacom tablet. Then I got a message to restart my computer. After 10 years of working on Macs, I have never experienced this. Thanks in advance to anyone that could help.

    Hi-
    Your panic log pretty clearly states it's a problem with RAM:
    <pre class="command">Uncorrectable Fbd memory error detected.</pre>What is your memory configuration? Presumably this is your Mac Pro? If you're comfortable working inside your computer, you could swap RAM cards around.
    I did a Google search for the error quoted above and came up with a couple of hits. One from February has some good information on one person's experience, resulting eventually in a logic board replacement under warranty.

  • I cannot add nor send file attachments larger than 100k on any of my email servers from this particular PC. Is there a fix for this?

    I cannot attach a file larger than 100k to any email account (gmail, aol, secureserver.net) while using Firefox. However, I can send files larger than 100k from those same accounts on this computer when using IE. Switched to Firefox from IE and would prefer to continue using Firefox, however this issue presents a problem for my business needs. Please advise. Thank you.

    Well seeing as I'm running Lion on 2 GB of RAM, I can't see how upgrading the RAM will make that much of a difference.    If you are seeing launch times in minutes, it probably indicates your cache got corrupted by some third party cache cleaning software.  To see if some corruption can be fixed, first backup your data:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
    Then boot in safe mode, holding the shift key.  If issues persist in safe mode, run the hardware test that came with your Mac.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
    And if that is unrevealing, and booting into safe mode doesn't solve anything, and you are backed up, try repairing the directory by:
    1. Booting into the restore partition with command-R.
    2. Selecting the installer's Utilities menu.
    3. Selecting Disk Utility
    4. Selecting First Aid
    5. Selecting the boot partition.
    6. Click on repair disk (not repair permissions)
    Do NOT proceed with any install itself.  Just quit the install program
    If the disk is not able to be repaired, purchase Alsoft Disk Warrior, and boot of that to repair the directory.
    If it is able to be repaired, and the machine is still slow, I think you may have run into some RAM that is bad, and need to replace it, not add to it.
    If Disk Warrior can't repair the hard disk, replace the hard disk itself.

  • Any one can help me from this code?

    can someone tell me what the code DBUtil.getMarks(msg),DBUtil.setIndex(pn,rsp)
    may do on the code below that i've downloaded this files from [http://sourceforge.net/projects/asimplesmssende/files/|http://sourceforge.net/projects/asimplesmssende/files/] I cant see any DBUtil.java or DBUtil method on the source codes I want to fixed this code coz it has a error because of DBUtil coz i want to create my own codes like this
    import org.soham.sms.*;
    import java.util.*;
    class Q extends SMSUtil
         Q() throws Exception{
              super("Com16");
         public void processSMS(String pn,String msg) throws Exception
              String rsp=DBUtil.getMarks(msg);
              this.sendSMS(pn,rsp);

                   /*util.stopReceivingSMS();
                   int s=al.size();
                   for(int i=0;i<s;i++){
                        String x=((String[])al.get(i))[0];
                        String m=((String[])al.get(i))[1];
                        System.out.println(x+" *****  "+m);
    }advance thanks ^^

    Download the DBUtil class from that site as well, then, as that is, seemingly, another "self-written" class. You seemingly need to find a better site from which to plagarise your assignments, it seems.

  • What could this panic log mean

    O.K I was viewing a movie in iTunes and got the kernel panic screen. Restarted, then I was in iPhoto and the whole screen seemed to disintegrate.
    this time I couldn't restart. Got the three chimes and flashing light deal. swapped RAM around and then machine can boot with both sticks in place. More freezes, more kernel panics. One restart to black screen only (yikes)
    I have zapped PRAM and run disk repair from Tiger Install disk. (said no repairs neccesary) . I dont have a hardware test disk
    I don't know what to do next and was hoping someone may see something in this log

    any help appreciated

    The three beeps on startup indicates none of your RAM passed the power-on self-test (see Power On Self-Test Beep Definition). The 0x600 flag indicates a memory word alignment exception (see about 2/3 of the way down the page at I/O Kit Device Driver Design Guidelines: Two-Machine Debugging) which further points to bad memory. You can try to download Memtest to further verify that the RAM is bad.
    Was the computer recently exposed to any sort of power line surge? Be aware that common MOV-based low-cost surge protectors degrade over time and lose effectiveness (the status LEDs on such surge protectors are essentially meaningless). You may want to try at least one DIMM of known-good RAM; Crucial is an excellent source for memory.

  • Panic.log - What is this?

    I was looking at my Console logs and found this panic.log shown below. I had walked away from my iBook G4 running 10.3.9 and when I came back everything was dark: not sleeping and not "display off"
    I pressed the power switch and it rebooted OK. I went to Console to see if there were any hints. There was a panic.log file:

    Hi Roberto,
    > Don't want to leave this question just hanging...
       ... but you did. You haven't added any new information. You won't learn any more about the panic from the panic log alone. William is by far the best at reading panic logs of anyone ever to have graced this list. He has actually contributed code to Darwin's kernel. I was thrilled that he posted on this thread because he is probably familiar with the code that throws a Machine Check error. He has indicated the it probably came from your USB driver or the memory controller.
       You should be able to test your RAM with the hardware test disk that came with your computer. If that test shows no problems then you've probably connected a device to your computer via USB that is misbehaving. If a panic occurs every time you plug in a particular device then the culprit is obvious but if the panic hasn't reoccurred then it's unlikely that you'll ever find out exactly what happen this time.

    Turn iPod touch off and turn it on again.
    If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged.
    If that doesn't work, try restoring the iPod. See this article for assistance.

  • Panic Log: can anyone decipher?

    I've had 4 kernel panics so far on my 4 day old MBP, each time occurring while watching video of some sort (DVD and iTunes). I'm attributing it to heat, and I'll be taking it back to the Apple Store this weekend. One of the point of interest might be the fact that I've been using the iSkin over the keyboard since day one. According to their website, heat shouldn't be a problem, but they did not specifically mention testing on the MBP. At any rate, I've got this panic log, and I was wondering if any one could decipher it and lend some more insight into what's going on. Here it is:

    In my crash reporter logs are two logs. One for "mdimportserver", and the other for "Frontrow". The funny thing is that for the time recorded for both of these crashes, I don't recall having a crash. So I don't know how useful it is. The crash event that happened this evening is recorded in the first log below at "Wed Jun 13 19:09:38 2007 crashdump[143]: crashdump invoked as panicdump"
    At any rate, I don't want to waste anyone's time. I'm going to take this back to Apple in a couple of days. I'm sure they can figure it out. I was just curious about what this was all about, so if anyone is into challenges like this, feel free to chime in.

    When updating to 10.5.7. I needed 5 tries to get it to work. The first 4 attempts stopped at the grey apple logo screen. This is from my panic log. Can anyone tell me if I still have a hidden problem and if so what I need to do about it?

  • What good are the Panic Logs?

    I have reported Panic Logs to my local Apple store and ask that they check the codes to identify what is causing the kernel panics. Here is a sample code below:
    I highlighted the codes I mentioned. It seems to me that these codes should identify the hardware or problem area to check. If not, why even produce a log. You would think Apple would have a book of codes to help identify problems. I know hardware testing is necessary and may help identify a problem but sometimes Apple may send memory chips, a logic board when it fact if someone could identify the codes, it may point to something different. When Apple bring parts to your house, they are limited to only 5 replacment parts. These codes would provide a valuable resource but no one seems to take advantage of them, or no one has a clue about how to read or identify what the panic log is saying. Apple will not even contact anyone in development for help. What is your opinion??

    If you received this exact error code in your Panic Log:
    Uncorrectable Fbd memory error detected. ferr = 30000800 , nerr == 00000000
    please tell me how Apple solved the problem?
    Did they replace the memory? If so, how did they narrow down what chip was at fault.
    Did they replace the logic card? Apple came to my house and could not remove the screws to take out the old motherboard. They indicated they have found that to be a problem with others.
    Any other solutions to this panic log that Apple was able to solve?
