Anyone know what this all means !!  - Sense Key = hardware error ?

I have just been tring to make a Back-up copy of a CD using Toast ( v7.1 ) and at the end I keep getting this message, does anyone know what it all means please.
Sense Key = Hardware Error
Sense Code = 0x44, 0xD6
Internal Target Failure
Now before we go on, I have been using Toast all week making Back-ups with out a problem so I don't know why all of a sudden I am getting this message.
It also states that the Lead in & Out failed.
Hope some one can enlighten me.
Steve

In some cases if you have done a lot of burning you will need to empty the cache files before you can burn successfully. I have had to do this after I burned 4 or 5 movies and then I was good to go again.
I use 3 programs.
Macjanitor.

Cache Out X.

Onyx.

If I am doing a lot of burning I run these 3 once a week need to or not just to keep the trash all cleaned out of my system.
I try to always follow this Media guide as well and find it to be invaluable when buying good media, for DVD.

  • Anyone knows what this lockscreen means?

I got this very strange lockscreen. I could not log on anymore. Does anyone knows what this is?

    Hello there, Roloef.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great, practical steps for troubleshooting an unresponsive iPad touchscreen:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
The best place to start would be with these initial steps:
If your device is experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, try the following steps:
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see theService FAQ for your product.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Anyone know what this overlay means?

I'm trying to diagnose a problem for a relative across the country. This overlay appears from time to time and evidently won't go away. Looks like some sort of levels indicator, similar to volume or brightness:
    Anyone know what it is?

it means your keyboard brightness is at its lowest setting,
hit the F6 key (or fn + F6 if you F keys are active as traditional F keys)
a few more hits and you'll be seeing some 'sun rays' around the top and those dots at the bottom filling in

  • Project Library... anyone know what this symbol means ?

I know the one that looks like an "airport utility" symbol means the job's published..... but when I moved the project to a bigger disc, a warning triangle (grey) came up.
I have looked all over the manual and can't see what it means. Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks.

Thanks Jim. No I didn't edit anything. I made (or should I be PC and say "shared"?) the Final Cut and then wanted to move the project as it had been on my system disc. I didn't touch anything.... honest!
It plays OK with quicktime... I'll check through the TV and see if it's OK.

  • Does anyone know what this message means?

I use macbook pro mountain lion OSX 10.8.2, Traktor Pro 2, Nicecast, Shoutcast, & Wavestreamer to stream a mix weekly over the internet. I never had any problems before I started the actual "radio show". I would occasionally check to see if I was able to get on air and everything was good until my first broadcast. I couldn't connect. After checking my settings and connections and multiple restarts, I was able to connect and finished my mix. I have had 3 broadcast and 3 failures. The last broadcast I wasn't ever able to restablish any kind of connection. I tried contacting tech support for all of the players involved (2 are in Europe and one is on the East Coast) but it being a weekend couldn't get any help. I found this log in my console and think maybe it can help me however, I don't understand it. Can anyone help?

This is not strictly a podcasting question, and I'm afraid the technical issues involved are outside my experience. The method you are using involves mostly non-Apple software, so I don't know how much change you have in the Apple Discussions of finding someone who is familiar with them, but probably the best place to ask is the Mountain Lion forum and I will ask the Hosts to move this thread there.

    Macintosh-3 kernel[0]: cat_lookuplinkbyid: getkey for 208852710 failed 2
I see loads of them all with different "getkey for" numbers. I think it happened when Spotlight, out of the blue, started re-indexing the volume immediately after booting up.
I've googled this, but don't find much at all.
    Ignore them?

What were you doing when you started seeing these logs ?
I would suggest opening a TAC case as this error could come from different issues.

mac book pro with Mavericks 10.9.5

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • I have a MacBook Pro, Matshita UJ-857E while recording music my drive reported an error: Sense Key=HARDWARE ERROR Sense Code=0x03,0x01 I have no idea what this means, and now my cd burner/player won't work. can someone help me fix this problem?

Please Help me. I am having problems with my MATSHITA UJ-857E DVD-R burner/writer. I burned 4 cd's and then it stopped working.
I can select my songs, and then it asks for a blank disc. It starts preparing to write the disc, then it says,"
The drive reported an error: Sense Key= HARDWARE ERROR Sense Code= 0x09,0x01 TRACKING SERVO FAILURE.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to fix it or what this means because I have no idea what it is talking about or how to begin to fix the problem?

    tanyafrombakersfield wrote:

This is an error reported by the optical drive's firmware. The tracking servo is the servomechanism which guides the laser pickup along the track on the optical disc. The error means that the servo couldn't do its job within the programmed parameters. What it doesn't say is why.
You have to be very precise as to when this error occurs. If it occurs as you wrote, while it "starts preparing to write the disc", and not when it has actually began to burn, then it's likely that the drive has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
There are other possibilities, so you should check them, but they would be more likely if the error occurred after the drive began to write. OrangeMarlin has suggested two options -- try a different brand of CD or DVD, and try cleaning the lens.

I have a 21" iMac that only boots as far as a folder icon with a question mark in it.  Anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

It usually means your OS has corrupted files. You need to reinstall OS X.
If you are using Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
    If you are using Lion:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (Although the procedure is for Vista and 7 and you've got XP, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)
