AOL for MAC OS

Hi - i subscribe to AOL & have just installed AOL for MAC OS on my ibook. I live in the UK but it seems that the AOL SOFTWARE is linked to servers in the USA....so when I log-on the welcome page it assumes i'm in America. Does anyone out there (in the UK)use AOL on their MAC whose welcome page points to aol.co.uk rather than aol.com? Can anyone help me adjust my settings OR is there a UK version of AOL software for MAC? Any advice much appreciated.

Under AOL at the top of the screen click on preferences.
Then in the new window click on www on the left hand side.
The in the homepage text box enter www.aol.co.uk.
Job done
Also check you regonal settings in system preferences (international and date and time). If you mac is still set to US and not GB then AOL will default to the US server rather than the UK server.
Once set to GB even if you type aol.com you will get a redirect to the UK server.

  • Trying to Restore or Open AOL-For-Mac Filing Cabinet

I had to reinstall AOL for Mac, so before doing so and losing all the AOL mail that was in my filing cabinet, I copied the filing cabinet to my Mac desktop. It is now there, and it contains over 3 megabytes, so I know my mail is sitting there on my desktop. But when I try to get it back into AOL I cannot, and while it shows up in Finder, I can't do anything with it.
I have also tried, unsuccessfully, to move it to Mail.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome To Discussions Alpsteiner!
    Did you move the file named Your AOL Screen Name's Filing Cabinet, from;
HD > Users > Shared > America Online: HERE?
In that same location, do you now have a new file named Your AOL Screen Name's Filing Cabinet, that is much smaller?

  • AOL for Mac Question

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this thread, but I couldn't find a proper place anywhere else. I downloaded AOL for Mac and it works pretty good, the only problem I've had with it is in checking people's profiles. Whenever I do put someone's screen name in the profile-checker text bar and hit enter, it always, no matter what the screen name, brings up a blank web page with nothing but an aster ix (*) on it. That's it. What's the solution?

If you downloaded & installed AIM 4.7, go to the bottom of the website & click on the Support link. If still having problems, cross-post over in one of the iChat AV Forums where the AIM users hang out.
Did you repair permissions after installing AIM?

  • AOL for Mac Freezes????

AOL for Mac freezes about once a day. When this happens the wheel spins and nothing else happens. In order to regain control, I have to hit the on/off switch in back. I don't like doing this, but I can't get to reboot or restart anyother way. It happens when trying to get mail sometimes or it will just sit there and be froozen.
    Help

    Thanks Ali,
I have only one account and several screen names. It happens in all of them. I am using 10.3.7.
Happens sometimes before i can get to opening email. sometimes I hear the welcome sound and then the freeze sets in. I emailed aol. so far no reply.

    Hi LarryJay!
Are you using AOL For Mac OS X Version
    10.3.7?
Do you have more than one AOL account, and if so,
does this happen in all accounts?
Does this only happen when opening Email?
Also, as you have incorrectly shutdown a number of
times, I suggest that you run Repair Disk.

  • AOL for mac crashing?

I often notice that when I restart my macbook, there is a "recovered files" folder in the trash. Many of the files appear to be from aol for mac. Could this mean that aol is crashing or not closing correctly, and if so, how can I fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance?

    Rich,
"...is there any way of preventing this from
    happening?".
I'm not sure about recovered items from applications
other than AOL, and I haven't tested this
theory yet, but maybe, if from AOL Preferences
    WWW > Display:
you select Empty Cache Now, and click
OK, the AOL files will not appear after
    a restart.
And Thank You, for extending the
    courtesy, of awarding stars in
    Discussions!

Wow!! That absolutely worked. I went into the WWW settings and emptied the cache and then disabled the feature altogether. No more recovered items folder in the trash
    Like magic!!
    Thanks alot for your help!!!

  • I have aol for mac.  I can't figure out the mail or how to retrieve folders or mailboxes

First, I don't know if I have a mac intel or a ppc.  I don't know what that means.  Anyway, I have had a pc and aol since the dinosaur days.  Just the other day I got a mac.  I have had iphones since they began and my boys have macs so I thought what the heck.  Well, it is so confusing I am pulling my hair out.  My husband says icloud is on my phone, ipad and mac.  I am having trouble keeping all my photos from automatically moving to my phone.  I don't want 1400 photos on my phone, only some of them and can't figure out how to make it do that.
This question though is about the mail.  I loaded aol onto the mac.  I wanted all my mail to transfer over like it always has when changing pc's.  But it did not give that option with the mac, so it just brought over my account but not my mail, saved folders and all.  I have folders for bills, shopping, insurance, christmas, many many things.  Probably 12-15 of them and when I get email in that I need to keep, I put it in one of those folders and can go back to it at any time.  However with the apple, they don't have folders, they are called mailboxes.  Now I finally figured out how to make new mailboxes for each subject.  However, they do not show up on the left under the mail stuff.  You have to go to toolbar once you highlight the email and go to view, then to move to or something like that, then you see the folders.  If you click on one, supposedly the email goes in there.  However, there is no way to tell for sure because you cannot go to them at all otherwise.  And you can't open the folder cuz it is not in bold unless you are putting something in there.  Then it goes away.  So I don't know if it went in there so I can't delete it and it just keeps piling up.  Also, my sent mail doesn't save automatically, nor does anything else.  Right now my email has a dash out where it says how many emails you have incoming, but it was never there before and I don't think I got any of my mail today that I got now that I am on the pc so how do I take that off.
Also on the on the mac list it says it has like 80 something there, but it won't let me double click or see what it is, so I don't understand.  I just want to get it organized.
Thank you so much for your time.  I appreciate all the help I can get.

    Hi Janice
Fortunately, AOL keeps a copy of mail and folders on their server, so you can be reassured that the email is there, you just have to find a way to access it.
There are three ways to read AOL mail on your Mac.
    - You can open a browser such as Safari, log into http://aol.com, and read mail there (ie "webmail");
    - You can install the AOL Desktop software, which is probably what you had on the PC. I don't tend to recommend this, as there's usually no need to install extra software, and I've found it very sluggish on a Mac. However, for people who are very used to it and dont want to change, the option is there;
    - You can read AOL email in the Apple Mail application.
If you have added your AOL to Apple Mail, your mailboxes/folders should be available to you under a heading called "AOL" (you may have named your account differently). The mailboxes are on the left side - as mentioned above, you can hide and show the mailbox panel. (There's a "Show" button on the top left to reveal the mailboxes, which changes to "Hide" when you click it. If you already see "Hide", then you're fine.)
The server mailbox heading will be at the bottom of the mailbox panel on the bottom left. If you move your cursor over it, and you see the word "Show" appear, click that word. That will reveal the mailboxes within that server account.
In the example above, my server mail account is called "Google", but the principle is the same. Clicking "Show" will reveal all the mail folders held on the server. The same thing should work for your AOL account.
    Hope that helps.
    Matt

  • AOL for mac?

I am a recent apple convert and have always used aol on my previous PCs. My email is through aol as well. In aol email, you can embed images instead of attaching them. However, with my new mac it's taking upwards of 5 minutes to send a few embedded pics. It took seconds on my old PC. Is this just the aol mac app that makes it so slow?
Is there any other email servers where I can embed images instead of attaching? Maybe something else besides aol would be quicker? I am quite discouraged. I am a photographer hobbyist and have children I like to share photos of. I've barely sent any pics since getting my new mac because it takes so long. Advice?

Hi, as a recent apple convert and AOL user too, I am desperatly searching for a way to save my old emails (stocked in the "organize" folder on my PC) and transfer them to my mac. I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem but maybe you can help me with mine ? Thanks.

  • AOL for MAC X will not run in 10.4.9

AOL was working before upgrading to Tiger 10.4.9. Just to amke sure I uninstalled everything I could find and I downloaded the latest AOL software and at the end the error message was "cannot find disk to install in" or something close to that.
    Anyone else having problems?
    Any fix?

Be honest with yourself, do you really NEED AOL? they have lost thousands and thousands of subscribers because hardly anyone needs them anymore. You can still keep your AOL email and use the internet as usual. iChat allows you to use your AOL instant message screen name and password. I left AOL 7 years ago and still use my I.M screen name in iChat.
Unless there is some really special need for AOL take this as a sign to move on. AOL doesn't even offer the features on the Mac version like they do Windows. Most Windows users don't even buy into that waste of software. Dude move on.

  • AOL Desktop for Macs.  Anyone have used it?

G4 Digital Audio Version used; supplied with clean HDD and now upgraded OS 10.4.11
I use AOL as an internet service provider for dial up. Don't knock it, but you can if u want I'm cool with people here. I use the dial up because I use two ISP and attend a university. Because now of the blended and distance use of the computer, the importance of having two Internet Service Providers on dial up is important. You see i can always grab another phone line, but not just another DSL.
America Online offers an AOL desktop for Macs. Advertised as designed by mac users for mac users. Has anybody tried this software that must be downloaded?
Since it says AOL for desktop and to me this means i have to look at junk on my computer screen. Plus my now Mac desktop or the screen display appears very fast, and i like the pretty blue. Does anyone have experience with this AOL Desktop for macs?

    Hi Patrick!
I haven't installed AOL Desktop For Mac yet but I know you can run both that & AOL For Mac OS X Version 10.3.7 simultaneously.
So you could install it to test drive without losing AOL For Mac OS X.
You may get more information on the boards here AOL & Your Mac.

then the next line message sent using @mac.com
help thank you so much sorry if this question has already been answered.

    Welcome To  Discussions jillian07!
If you are using the Apple Mail application, here are the AOL Mail Settings.
    -Incoming Mail Server: s/b imap.aol.com
-Outgoing Mail Server: s/b smtp.aol.com:Your AOL Screenname Here
    -Server Port: s/b 587
You may also want to try using the utility AOL® Service Assistant, which can be downloaded from this website AOL Macintosh Downloads.
"The AOL Service Assistant enables you to set up the following Apple applications to work with the AOL service:
    • Mail - The AOL Service Assistant makes it easy to configure Mac OS X Mail to send and receive AOL mail. If you've used the existing AOL for Mac OS X product, you can also import your incoming and outgoing messages from your Personal Filing Cabinet into Mail.
    • iChat - You can now easily set up iChat to work with your Screen Name.
    • Address Book - Using the AOL Service Assistant, you can now easily import your AOL Address Book contacts into your Mac OS X Address Book without bringing in duplicate entries.
    • Safari - AOL Service Assistant enables you to import your Favorite Places into a folder in the Safari Bookmarks Bar."

  • AOL and Mac.....Works!

    Hey everyone.
I just thought i'd say it is possible to use AOL, Mac and a USB modem!!!You need the AOL for Mac OS X which is available through AOL.co.uk.
You then need to go to the BT Broadband site and downloads section. From there downoload the appropriate drivers depending on what AOL USB modem you have. Obviously restart the Mac.
Then open AOL up click Set up or something like that. Click Add or change location then just follow the steps from there! It should pick up your modem as easy as that.
Some things in here might be wrong so sorry if they are. But thats as much as I can remember, until I get the full version.
Hopefully this helps some other AOL users troubled by AOLs lack of wanting to help us Mac users!
    Cheers,
    Scott

MY PROBLEM IS RETRIEVING ARCHIVED MAIL ON MY HARD DISK USING A WIRELESS CABLE MODEM. THE .WEBARCHIVE EXTENSION DOES NOT WORK AND I GET A JAVA SCRIPT ERROR ADVISING ME TO SEEK TECH SUPPORT AT THE AOL SITE.
NO HELP THERE EITHER WRITTEN OR ORAL OVER THE TELEPHONE. AOL CLAIMS IT IS AN APPLE PROBLEM AND APPLE CLAIMS IT IS AN AOL PROBLEM
USING THE INTERNAL MODEM OF THE IMAC G5 AND AOL MAC OS X DIALUP CONNECTION--NO PROBLEM
HOWEVER, IF I CHANGE THE .WEBARCHIVE EXTENSION TO A .TEXT EDIT EXTENSION AND DOUBLE CLICK IT; IT OPENS UP WITH A MESSAGE FROM AOL INDICATING THAT:
A VIRUS WAS FOUND, BUT NO MENTION OF IT
THEY COULD NOT SCAN THE MESSAGE FOR VIRUS
    MESSAGE IS FLAGGED
AOL HAD DIFFICULTY IN LOADING THE MESSAGE.
I CAN THEN SAVE THIS MESSAGE AS EITHER A TEXEDIT DOCUMENT OR A RTF FORMAT. IN THE RTF FORMAT, I CAN ACCESS THE MESSAGE ANY TIME WITHOUT THE RIGMAROLE OF THE TEXT EDIT.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  • AOL Desktop for Mac and Mavericks

After installing Mavericks on my iMac, I was pleased to discover that all of my existing programs were working with the exeception of AOL Desktop for Mac.  That program crashes on launch.  It worked fine with Mountain Lion.  While I'm sure not very many people still use this program, I was wondering if those that do were having the same problem and have you found any fixes?  Thanks

Be happy to.  I did contact AOL and this was the response I recieved:
    Hi there,
Unfortunately, the feature that you require is not compatible with OS x Mavericks.
If you need assistance with something else, simply reply to this email and describe your situation. We will do our best to help you find the right solution as quickly as possible.
We look forward to continuing to provide you with the best online experience possible.  Remember, you can always reach us by emailing [email protected]
    Sincerely,
    AOL Community
As you can see, it would appear at that AOL has no intentions of updating AOLDTFM.  Since the program will open, but immediately crashes and the icon is not covered with an X, my guess, there may be a small tweak that can be done to get it working again.  Perhaps there is a viable solution.
