AP3 - Repairing Library - 0% Complete

After a week and a half of trial and error, I finally have my AP3 libraries up and running for the most part. However with the larger of my libraries (50GB library file size, library located on internal hard drive, all masters are referenced to an external drive) I do have an image that displays the correct thumbnail, but the image that shows in the browser (both at full screen and browser view) is the incorrect image. I am trying to repair my library via the command+option command when starting up aperture, however when I select Repair Database, the Repairing Library Database status bar comes up, but does not move from 0% complete. I am going on about 15 minutes at 0% complete right now. Activity monitor shows nothing abnormal, and shows most of my memory free with aperture using very little (147.1mb).
Has anyone had any luck with the Repair Database option? I have had luck in the past with rebuilding library, at least as far as getting it to actually go through the whole process..but it appears the Repair Database option just will not work for me. Anyone else?
also curious if maybe this is just because it is a huge library that it may take a while. when i run the Repair Datbase option on a sub-library that I exported out of AP3 from my iMac and moved to my MBP it runs without fail.

im having the same problem, i leave the repairing library database open for a whole weekend and... 0%
but I can't access my library at all, it fails to open.
i have 6 libraries most of them are pretty large.
4/6 of them wont open and wont repair ( 0%)
I am storing my libraries on a 6TB Drobo over 800
I upgraded to aperture 3.0 and converted my libraries and they worked... (slowly) for a while, and then this happened.

  • Aperture wont open and says "repairing library database" even when 100% complete it still wont open

my aperture won't open and says "repairing library database"  even when it gets up to 100% complete it just suts there frozen and won't open to the aperture screen

How many Images?  How much storage space does the Library occupy?  Do you have plenty of free space on your system drive?
Ignore the progress bar — it's often stuck, and therefore unreliable.
Ignore Activity Monitor reporting Aperture "Not Responding".  This is, imho, a bug Apple should have squashed years ago.
Repairing (or doing any operations an entire Library) a large Library can take hours or days.  You did not report what you did to get past 79% — I'm going to guess you Force-quit Aperture.  Force-quitting any database is always a bad idea and should only be done as a last resort.  Each time you force quit, you are likely adding to your problem.
Restart the rebuild, and let it run, unmolested, for at least 40 hours.  IME, at some point the progress bar with jump to 99%, then 100%, and then stay there for perhaps a few more hours, and then it finishes.
I have _never_ had a repair or a rebuild (I have not had to do many rebuilds) _not_ finish.  One took about 82 hours, but it finished.
If your Library is small — say, fewer than 100,000 Images _and_ smaller than 100 GB — and you're seeing these very long rebuild times, you likely have an actual problem — but the only way I know to find out is to let the rebuild continue.  (I don't store any but small video in Aperture, and very few of them, so my numbers may not correspond to Libraries that store videos.)
Did you notice any other problems before Aperture itself recommended rebuilding?
In short: let it run unmolested.

  • Aperture repaired library, now it says there's an error in the library and doesn't open it

I'm running Aperture 3.2.3, and the following happened:
I'm keeping my library on an external harddrive. As I had the library open in Aperture, the external hardrive got accidentally disconnected. I quit Aperture, reinserted the external harddrive, and reopened the library. Aperture told me that it detected inconsistencies in the library and that it would repair it. After finishing the repair process on the library, I tried to open it and got the following message: Warning, there is an error in the database of the library, and only gives me the option to quit the program.
    What can I do?

Hold down the option and command keys while you start Aperture this will open the library repair window. Select Repair Library, see if that clears the problem.
BTW what format of the external disk that the library is on?

  • I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?

I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?
I dragged one photo to the My Pictures folder in Finder. I knew it was just one photo because it was the only one highlighted in yellow. When I saw it in Finder, it was labled iPhoto. I thought it was the wrong picture, so in Finder I deleted the file. When I got back to iPhoto, EVERYTHING was missing. Events, photos, recent, and even trash. At this point, I went into my Trash. I searched for iPhoto and iPhoto was there. I opened it and it was still empty. All I want to do is to get my collection of photos back!

Best solution is to load your backup from before you did this?
Where did you drag the photo from?
Have you tried dragging it from the trash to the desktop?  What size is it?
What size is your iPhoto library in the pictures folder?

  • I had old 8mm converted to dvd then used "Rip It" then imported to iMovie. My problem: in the event library a complete person is shown, in the project the top of their head is missing. How can I fix?

I had old 8mm movies converted to dvd. I then used "rip it" and imported to imovie. In the event library a complete person is shown on a clip. However, when I move that clip to the project the tops of peoples heads are missing in the playback. I have used standard (4:3) because the cut is lower in widescreen. How do I fix this problem?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • Iphoto 11 repair library stuck at 94%

I've been having trouble with iphoto 11 hanging and not quiting without force quit. So I decide to try to repair library database (alt command) and I let it run all night and never got past 94%. Tried again and stalled at 94%. I created a new library and imported 2 photos but could not quit that one either. latest iphoto 11.

Are you able to run the library normally? Is it only the rebuilding that's giving you problems. Instead of rebuilding with all options selected backup the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto library is completely frozen, and invisible

Hello, everyone. My iPhoto library is completely frozen, and invisible, despite several force quits and restarts. Any ideas? It is a big library, some 13.5GB, but this has never been a problem until now. I even attempted to restore the library from Time Machine.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • What does it mean in IPhoto repairing library database?

I opened iPhoto and it gave me an error regarding my library database.  What does this mean?  It is now "repairing library database".  What is this doing?

iPhoto is essentially a database index that keeps track of the photos in its library. When something goes wrong with that database index, it can be rebuild to fix errors.
You can read more about this in this article  iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

  • Error message repairing library database keeps appearing in iPhoto in iMac

Why does the error message "repairing library database" keeps appearing?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • After 10.8.3 update issues that I need to repair library, does any one know what to do?

Hello, I am getting a window only on my network user account that says Mac OS X needs to repair library to run application, it glocks up app store, reminders, contacs, note pad, etc, can anyone help, thnks in advance

    This just worked for me:
Fixed it! Seems to be a permissioning problem in the Library folder.  This is what I did
    Open Finder
    Go -> Go to Folder -> ~/Library
Get Info on the Library folder
    Set the permissions as follows:
       <username>(Me): Read & Write
       everyone: No Access
You should have just these two.  If there are any other account or group names remove them.
Click on the little gear and select 'Apply to enclosed items...'
It will take a while to go through the entire library and change the permissions.  After that everything worked properly, for me at least.

  • Repairing Library Database stuck at 100% complete

My Library repair has been stalled for almost 24 hours at the "100% complete" stage for over 24 hours.
In Activity Monitor, however, Aperture is cruising along, bouncing between 350% to 550% CPU%.   Library is Aperture 3.2.4, and I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
My Library is fairly large (2.98 TB on a 4 TB internal HDD), and I'm reluctant to force quit given the amount of time spent on repairing (about 36 hours total).   Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Gordon

    Great!
    So for our statistics:
"My Library is fairly large (2.98 TB on a 4 TB internal HDD)"
will need three days - 1 TB per day - congratulations for your patience!

  • Aperture 3 library won't show repair library screen

I tried to update my Aperture 2 library today (470GB) and everything worked just fine till it got to 96% and stayed at this percentage, so i force-quit Aperture. The library now only shows 400GB but I have one still in the old version with the rest of the pictures (according to the size). The new library opens but most of the thumbnails are screwed up (just vertical lines or black screens), so I wanted to repair the library (I also cannot import it into a completely new library) but holding down command & option while double-clicking the library just opens up the library instead of going to the repair window. Any ideas on how I can force it to come up?
EDIT: Totally forgot: It says in the activity that it is updating the library and going through the photos. No idea what it is doing, I'll let it run for now but it'll take some time till I know what it does, since it tells me it needs to go through >10,000 objects.

Sorry that was not helpful. I am using the trial version only and HELP states 'Aperture provides a few methods for reconstituting your Aperture library and the file relationships within it.'

Having looked through Aperture Commands under the Aperture Menu I cannot find any likely entry other than I have already mentioned.
    Good luck.

  • Mail won't launch and OS X needs to repair Library to run applications

My primary account works fine.  Wife's mail wouldn't launch and indication is Library needs to be repaired.   Would it be best to delete problem account? Checking other discussions revealed that the ....mail/plist  was missing in preferences.
Appreciate help to get into this problem.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Migrating and repairing library

Hello. I´m trying to translate my library ( a little more of 100.00 pictures all referenced ina a external DRobo FW 800 ) from my "old " imac 24" to a new imac 27 ".
I ´ve copied it and when i start Aperture ( wich is a newer version that i had in the old imac24) it ask me to actualize the library. i did it and it works correctly as i´ve connected the Drobo via a thunderbolt/FW800 adapter. I check exporting some files and all is perfect.
Then the Aperture star to rebuild previous and hangs out somewhere at 17.000.
I close and reopen and then it tells me to rebuild library: start to rebuild for less of an hour and reaches the 100% complete. But Aperture doesn´t start.
    Should i wait more?
Another thing i´m thinking to do is to copy again the old library into the new imac, actualize, reopen and merge into a new blank library...
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
    Roberto

As i have to force it down when i open it again it says due to many crashes lobrary needs to be repaired. I force it down again and open via ALT+CMD to rebuild instead of repair. And now i, m waiting again...
Your library is reperenced to your Drobo, right? You could try to run the library repair with the Drobo offline. Dismount the Drobo, before you launch Aperture into the First Aid Tools. This way you should be able to get the library repaired or rebuilt, without the preview generation interfering.
Then quit immediately, connect your drive again,  and relaunch Aperture with the Shift key held down.
I think i´m going yo chek tjhe last solution: make a new blank library and merge the old into it.
That should help, if the prewiew problem is caused by a library corruption - try it.
processing previews" and when it starts i can work but sometimes crashes
Crashing when creating previews can be caused by having imported corrupted media, that cannot be processed, unreadable image files or unsupported videos.
If the problem persists after repairing or, rebuilding the library, you need to screen your library for corrupted media. One single defective video or image file can be causing this problem. If you can get your library repaired, with the Drobo offline, try this:
How to Screen an Aperture Library for Corrupted Image Files or Videos
I just noticed, you never answered the question about the filesystem on your Drobo, only about the filesystem on your internal drive.

  • My iTunes Library has completely vanished! (in iTunes, on disk it is fine...)

I opened iTunes yesterday and my iTunes Library suddenly was empty (10,000 items missing!). As if I was using iTunes for the first time! I Checked Preferences, all OK. I Checked File Sys. (Itunes Media folder) all OK. Still, in iTunes, my library completely empty. So, to reload my iTunes Media, I selected 'Add Folder to Lib' and selected my usual iTunes Media folder (the same one specified in Advanced Preferences) to reload my missing content. (PS I have backups from all iPhones & iPad in iCloud and on disk).
I need some help here please...
