Apache with OracleXE Apex...

Hi,
I installed OracleXE on my laptop. I would be able to go to Start/All Programs/Oracle Database 10g Express Edition/Go To Database Home Page
(which is C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\Database_homepage.url)
I had installed my APEX app and it worked fine.
Next step was to get FOP -- PDF conversion working...
I installed the Apache webserver locally and now need to allow Apache to be my webserver and not the one that comes with XE.
Did I say that right?
I want to get my application working again using the Apache server.
Then I will proceed with the How To involving the FOP-PDF stuff.
I believe XE was coming up as http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Now I get the error page...
If I put http://127.0.0.1/ in the URL it brings up a page that says "It works!"
which I presume is Apache saying it is working properly.
But now I am stumped how to connect the two together..
Thank you, Bill

Thanks for the help:
The following is from the XE link:
I would suggest using your Apache as a proxy to your XE installation.
Make sure that in your httpd.conf the following modules are loaded:
LoadModule proxy_module modules/mod_proxy.so
LoadModule proxy_connect_module modules/mod_proxy_connect.so
LoadModule proxy_http_module modules/mod_proxy_http.so
Then add the following lines to your httpd.conf:
SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1
ProxyPass /htmldb http://127.0.0.1:8080/htmldb
ProxyPassReverse /htmldb http://127.0.0.1:8080/htmldb
ProxyPass /i http://127.0.0.1:8080/i
ProxyPassReverse /i http://127.0.0.1:8080/i
ProxyPass /sys http://127.0.0.1:8080/sys
ProxyPassReverse /sys http://127.0.0.1:8080/sys
where you replace
127.0.0.1
with the name or ip address of your XE installation. 8080 is the default http port of your XE installation.
Then you could access HTML DB/XE using the url http://appserver/htmldb.

    Your dads.conf says
    <Location /pls/apex>
    but you say
    "When trying to start the App Exp Aministrator at "http://okdev9a.okla.com:3232/dsl/apex/apex_admin" "
    Try http://okdev9a.okla.com:3232/pls/apex

    We dont want to use the lame and old mod_jserv so we want to use oc4j but in connection with Apache.
    This is like mod_oc4j in the Oracle 9ias Release 2
    This guide is for advanced users !
    Step-by-Step :
    1) get Tomcat 3.3 for linux or nt with Apache module mod_jk
    http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-tomcat/release/v3.3/bin/
    2) add mod_jk module to httpd.conf (9ias) and comment all mod_jserv, dms, oproc, ojsp ....
    LoadModule jk_module libexec/mod_jk.so
    Include mod_jk.conf
    3) edit mod_jk.conf
    JkMount /*.jsp ajp13
    JkMount /servlet/* ajp13 JkMount /servlets/* ajp13
    <Location "/WEB-INF/"> AllowOverride None
    deny from all
    </Location>
    3) edit workers.properties
    workers.tomcat_home=/opt/oracle/ias/oc4j/j2ee/home
    workers.java_home=/usr/java
    worker.list=ajp13
    worker.ajp13.port=8009 worker.ajp13.host=localhost worker.ajp13.type=ajp13
    4) edit http-web-site.xml (oc4j)
    <web-site host="localhost" port="8009" protocol="ajp13" display-name="Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE HTTP Web Site">
    5) start oc4j
    java -verbose -jar oc4j.jar
    6) start apache (look in error_log)
    apachectl startssl
    7) try to request a jsp page or servlet ..
    http://localhost:7777/test.jsp
    8) good luck it works fine .. !!

    Thanks for the tip Mathias, it's always good to see people trying out experimental things with the products.
    We're providing a new module (mod_oc4j) with our Oracle9iAS Release2 product to do this directly from the Oracle HTTP Server (Apache). We've re-written bits and pieces of the module to improve it's performance. Likewise, we've also integrated mod_oc4j with our HA story so it will be notified when new OC4J instances are brought online or if existing ones go down, enabling it to actively route requests around the available OC4J instances.
    Thanks again!

  • Integration of BI Publisher with Oracle APEX

    I have developed a small application in Oracle APEX. I want to integrate BI Publisher with that APEX app for my reporting needs. What are the essential steps.

    FYI: This article is up - http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2007/06/06#a209
    I look forward to the continuation of this series of posts - we are having troubles with some more advanced stuff!

  • Integrating Web server (eg Apache) with the application server

    I am thinking a project in which I use more static HTML files than JSPs. One way is to use an Apache server to display those HTML files (it should be faster), and deploy the JSPs into the J2EE server; another way is just simple to change the web containers port to 80 (of the PE 8), and wrap all the files into a war file and deploy it into the application server.
    So can someone advise my which way is better? And if I use the first one, Id like to know if it is the same way to integrate Apache with Tomcat.
    Thank you very much!

    In the past there has been a belief that the Apache web server serves static content faster than tomcat. Site managers would configure apache to deliver static content and integrate a web container to handle the dynamic content. I believe this argument is losing steam as tomcat gets better. I guess the only way you will know for sure is to deploy your application in PE 8.0 and then in an apache/web container configuration and do some benchmarking. I have no such benchmark data to compare and I base my comments on what I have read in newsgroups over the past months. Personally, I would opt for the app server only setup just to ease configuration. Others may have a different opinion.

  • Integrating Apache with Tomcat?

    Anyone have a guide to integrating Apache with Tomcat using mod_jk?
    I followed some guides online, but they all seem really dated with some obscure references. This seems like it should be on the top of the list....

    Hi Alan.
    I've discovered the exact same problem.... 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1
    You've obviously not had any replys here, but di you end up working it out on your own?

  • Apache with Tomcat cluster

    Hi, I integrated Apache with Tomcat Cluster on Windows 2000. I instalated mod_jk2.dll, created workers2.properties and configurated server.xml in Tomcat instances. If I try to reach my .jsp file, e.g. http://localhost/root/main.jsp, I get follow message from Tomcat: source root/main.jsp is not available. Whats wrong? Can anybody help me? Apache version: 2.0.47, Tomcat: 1.4.27

    Well, the first order of business is to determine exactly where main.jsp is located. If it is at <CATALINA_HOME>/webapps/main.jsp, then it should be at http://localhost:8080/main.jsp. Bypass Apache and verify that you can get to the Tomcat specific pages first.
    Basically, we're trying to determine a) the correct URL and b) whether the problem is with Tomcat itself, or with the connections between Apache and Tomcat.
    Essentially, we can't tell you where your configuration is incorrect until you tell us what your configuration is. :)

  • WLS with the HttpClusterServlet or Apache with proxy plug-in?

    I'm newbie with WebLogic Server cluster.
    Please tell me which is better for load balancing for WLS cluster? WLS with the HttpClusterServlet or Apache HTTP Server Plug-In? And which is recommended for production environment?
    Many thanks.

    Apache with plug-in, as this is easier configurable.
    For the HttpClusterServlet all the configuration goes into web.xml which has to be packaged as a war file and deployed to WebLogic.
    When any change is needed you have to edit the web.xml file, package it again and redeploy it.
    An example of the Apache plug-in set-up can be found here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7795 (the load balancing section)
    Or if you want to use the Oracle Web-Tier (which includes a precompiled Apache HTTP server): http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7819 (the load balancer section)

  • Apache with JServ or Tomcat?

    Whats your preferences in relation with JSP web server: Apache with JServ module (or another want you considerer better) or Jakarta-tomcat?
    I have used both, but I dont know exactly which one I should use in my new job.
    Thank you everybody and good luck!

    JServ, while fine in its time, is now outdated and will not be updated. If you want to use any features added to the JSP or Servlet API's in recent years, you need to use Tomcat.

  • Adv. of using apache with tomcat??

    can anyone pl tell me the advantages of using Apache with Tomcat in comarison to other web servers?
    Thanks

    The biggest advantages are that they are open source, so you don't have to pay a huge licence fee, and they are very stable. I don't know how they compare for speed - I know Apache is lightning when it comes to serving flat pages, there are no benchmarks yet for the new Tomcat because it was only released last monday. You can run them on linux or another unix variant, so they are more likely to be secure (windows servers are horrendously open to attack) and stable.

  • Oracle Timesten with oracle apex

    I use Oracle 11gr2 and apex 4.2.4 how can i use oracle timesten with oracle apex?
    I want to use timesten to improve  performance on report by adding two tables to oracle timsten.

    As far as I am aware, recent (11g onwards) releases of Oracle Heterogenous services do not work with TimesTen as they now require an OBC 3.x driver and the TimesTen driver is currently 2.0. Even if they did work, this would not be a useful solution. It might allow Apex to access TimesTen after a fashion (though that is far from certain) but the performance would be very poor due to all the network hops and software layers between the application and TimesTen.
    If you put one or two tables in TimesTen then one problem from an Apex perspective is that it is now dealing with two databases; the TimesTen cache containing two tables and the oracle database containing all the other tables. Is Apex designed to cope with this? Does it have the concept of data located in multiple databases where one of them is not the Oracle database? Also, do you need transactions or queries (joins) that span the TimesTen tables and the tables in Oracle DB? If so then this also  will not work as that is not possible today.
    I have to say that as far as Apex goes I think this is likely a non-starter. However, if you do try it and have any success then please do post the results here as we'd be interested to hear about it.

  • Compiling Apache with PERL module on Solaris 8

    Hi there,
    After the Richard's reply, I found the Apache sources on the intallation CD 2/2. And after a while I successful compile the apache WITH ITS STANDARD modules with the following command:
    $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/apache \
    --enable-module=most \
    --enable-shared=max \
    --with-layout=Solaris
    $ make
    $ make install
    But the above "configure" does not compile the companion mod_perl. So, I tried:
    ... $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/apache \
    --enable-module=most \
    --enable-shared=/usr/src/apache/mod_perl/src/modules/perl/mod_perl.c \
    --add-module=max \
    --enable-shared=max \
    --with-layout=Solaris
    but the above command just copies the "mod_perl.c" to the diretory
    "usr/src/apache/src/modules/extra"
    missing the corresponding *.h
    Then trying
    $ make
    The compilation fails because of ALL the
    files on the directory
    /usr/perl5/5.00503/sun4-solaris/CORE
    are not found.
    Any Hint?
    Thanks in advance
    Csar

    have you tried downloading the source from apache.org and compiling it?
    ive installed apache on sol8 many times, but all from apache.. not from the cd..

  • Discussion on Apache with Apaphe Tomcat

    I am doing some research on the pros and cons of
    either using Apache with Apaphe Tomcat on a live production server
    or
    Apaphe Tomcat on its own on a live server.
    Anyone knows any urls to some documentation on the subject
    Con (Apache with Apaphe Tomcat)
    I personally feel that Apaphe Tomcat on its own is a better sollution
    because the OS will use more memory to run both application (Apache with Apaphe Tomcat) simultanuesly.

    I've heard on many occasions that Apache can serve static content (html) faster than Tomcat. So if you are not concerned with Java the you'd be better off with just Apache. Tomcats main focus is to serve dynamic Java content, it just so happens that it can serve static content as well.

  • Configuring HTTP Apache Server with Oracle Apex

    Hi All,
    I have trawled through various threads on here to see if it would help my resolve the problem i seem to be having, but to no avail :(
    I have an oracle RAC db with apex installed. the RAC uses a service: apextest.com
    I have an HTTP Server installed on a seperate server, I have copied the Images over so it knows what to use. Made sure the httpd.conf file is pointing to the correct images path.
    As its a RAC db, i have put in the dads.conf file a 'TNSFormat' setting for the 'PlsqlDatabaseConnectString', using the TNSnames.ora entry named DEXTER which uses the apextest.com service name.

    Note: I have used the same HTTP Apache Server to host a version of apex4 on a standalone database which is installed on the same server. So just wondered if that has anything to do with it?
    thanks in advance :)

    Hello,
    According to the error ORA-12514, there is a problem for the mod_plsql to connect to the database :
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    Cause: The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
    Action:
    - Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
    - Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
    - Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.

    5. Oracle BI Publisher version: 10.1.3.4.1
    6. Apache Tomcat version: 6.0
    7. Cocon version: 2
    8. Operating System of Install Weblogic Server, BI Publisher, Apache Tomcat is Windows 2008 Server 32 bits.

    Ive configured a weblogic Server with BI Publisher and I have also configured the printing properties of the APEX Server with the following settings:

    Error failed
    I have search for documentation but i cant still print the report.
    I would appreciate a lot if anyone of you guys can help me figure this out

    Hello Tux Dueñas,
    I think you need to have ACL's setup in Oracle 11g in order to be able to connect to the BI Publisher server. Check the following link on how to setup ACL's in 11g...
