Aperture 3.1.2 support
Hello,
I've been trying to follow the threads regarding Aperture 3.1.2 support / troubleshooting. Have successfully opened the program using the 32-bit process (which worked for about a month or so). However, after a new update to my mac, the program crashes after about 10 seconds....The software came pre-installed w/ Aperture 2.X.X....So do not have the installation CD. Was wondering if anyone may know of a fix yet. I receive the same message everytime the program crashes regarding the below plug-in. Unsure if I could just remove the plug-in for it to work again....Thanks in advance for any support!

Aperture lack of DNG support unfortunate
It's difficult to understand why Aperture does not offer support for Adobe DNG files.
DNG/RAW files are being used by some camera manufacturers that I work with, and they contain a wealth of metadata as well as the broadest range of image data, including "altitude", which is now very useful in my professional work.
This lack of support has forced me to go back to Lightroom, and to reconsider that application as my primary media catalogue and editing application.A JPEG saved as a DNG isn't really a DNG file.
It is true that Aperture doesn't have "comprehensive" DNG support. It doesn't support linear DNGs, and it doesn't support some of the newest DNG extensions that Adobe has added (lossy compressed DNGs, etc.). I don't know the exact version of the spec that Aperture supports.
But do note that DNG is a lot of things. It's a fairly comprehensive spec that has many versions, with lots of different things. Aperture does support many DNG properties, but not all of them. If you want the latest, greatest, most comprehensive DNG support, then Adobe will have it, as it's their specification.
I personally just use the RAW files that come out of camera - whether they be NEF, CRW, CR2, or DNG. I _never_ convert my camera RAW files into DNG, because that actually strips some data (in my case, focus point informatin from CR2 files that Aperture can display, is removed from the converstion to DNG). There are many long-winded discussions on the "value" that DNG provides, and I don't subscribe to them. It provides no legay-proofness today that's unavailable other places. -

When I look for the photos, some have come in as JPG (I believe that at least some of these may have been taken as JPG only). However, most are showing as "UNSUPPORTED FORMAT".
Software is up to date. RAW Comp Update 3.6 applied before I started. Mac OSX 10.6.6 on MBP 17" Intel Core 2. Maxed RAM.
I purchased Aperture specifically for RAW support, RAW conversion and image touchup.
Really disappointed that Apple does not appear to support RW2.
Is there a plugin that will help?
I do not want complicated workflows like import in another app, then convert rW2 to something aperture will accept and then reimport the converted file into aperture as i have very limited time.That table lists FZ50 and FZ 100 but not FZ28 or FZ40. I do not know why Panasonic would have changed the file formats which all carry extension .RW2.
I do have Aperture 3.1.1 with Mac OSX 10.6.6. So that is not an issue.
The FZ100 uses a CMOS sensor that produces a very noisy image. So I stuck with FZ40 which uses an upgraded CCD from the FZ28 line.
Using DNG means an additional step.
I certainly hope that Apple supports the .RW2 format properly so that all the cameras using that are supported. -

It's just not the type of information Apple gives out. You can go to Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to let them know you want his camera included. But when that will happen is anyone's guess.
One strategy you can use for the time being is to shoot RAW + JPG (assuming the camera has this mode) and import both as a RAW+JPG pair making the JPG the master. Then when the RAW support comes out you can switch and make the RAW the master and process the file.
There are other ways to deal with this until the camera is supported. Post back for more info.

I have this same EXACT issue! I have spent weeks on the phone with different people from Apple Support. They are all stunned about this change. After talking with someone from Apple that specializes in Aperture, he has confirmed that the Sony Alpha NEX-3 (which is on the list of supported cameras) is the same as the Sony NEX F-3. He mentioned that the camera is in fact supported and should be working. They are working with the Engineers, but no answer yet why it isn't working....

How can I get Aperture 3.4 to support Sony NEX-5N RAW format photos?
I've upgraded all software and my camera -- Sony NEX-5N -- is on the Aperture list for RAW format support, but it continues to show images shot in RAW as a black square with FORMAT NOT SUPPORTED! in the middle. Is there a setting I'm overlooking or what?

What is your Aperture version? Perhaps you need to reinstall Aperture from the original installation media and then upgrade to include the 3.9 update. Or try to install the raw upgrade directly.

Yosemite/Aperture 3.6 No Support for Nikon D810/ Raw-S Files ?
I am thoroughly confused. I only recently began "drinking the Apple Kool-Aid" and am quite disturbed to learn (after upgrading to Yosemite & Aperture 3.6) that Nikon d810 Raw-S files are NOT supported....
What gives ? I mean you pay premium dollars for what is allegedly a premium product (MacBook Pro - Retina latest edition) you have the latest/ greatest software (Yosemite & Aperture 3.6) and the latest/greatest camera (Nikon D810) and one of the file formats is simply "Not supported ?" Seriously ??
I have had more compatibility issues with Apple and its software since being convinced by all the marketing hype to "drink the Kool-Aid" than I ever had with my ancient Dell XP PC laptop....

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Does anybody have the same issues with RAW files from the Nikon P7000 in Aperture with the latest RAW support update?
Aperture is showing the wrong ISO and not the 35mm zoom length.

JOI can confirm that. The EXIF seems to be wrong, no matter which software you use to read it. Happens only with full auto iso selected it seems. Unfortunately not only does the actual iso not match the EXIF value, the auto iso algorithm seems to have flaws aswell. In brightest sunlight we have experienced actual iso values of probably at least 3200 if not 6400 choosing a ridiculous values of f/2.8 with 1/1000s in P mode.... My D7000 chose something around iso 125 under he exact same conditions.... So yet another firmware update for the P7000 is hopefully on it's way - other than that: really great camera that could replace my d7000 if carrying the DSLR is impossible.

RAW support is part of the OS for Apple; it is not part of Aperture.
Apple has stated that they will continue to support Aperture _on Yosemite_ but not on any future OS's.
Therefore it appears _reasonable_ to conclude that all RAW support updates for Yosemite will work with Aperture.
Apple provides no guarantee (or has, afaik, any contractual obligation) to stick to the above.
Apple makes no statements regarding updates to the RAW compatibility.

Is Aperture 2 still a Apple supported product or has it been made unsupported as of 3.0? Aperture 3.0 now has Raw support for Canon 60D and other cameras but aperture 2.1.4 still refuses to load the files from a Canon 60D even with the latest Raw and security updates installed as of the 10th Nov.

Most likely not. But you have Aperture and the camera so connect it and try it in tethered mode.
