Aperture 3.3 search by lens no longer works.

I can search by focal length, but putting say "lens includes 70mm" in the EXIF search (yes, it's ticked) just returns a blank sheet, despite the album having many shots taken with my 70mm prime. Are other people seeing this?

The "lens" exif tag describes the "make" of the lens.  Do you see the lens meta data tag in the Metadata section of the inspector panel, when you add the "lens" tag to one of the metadata presets? For me the "lens" metadata tag is grayed out for all cameras, also in the "Info" tab of the Library Inspector. So I cannot search for the "lens", only for the "focal length" used for the image.
This "unknown lens" problem has been around since Aperture "3.2"; see the links to the right of this post.
As a work-around, search for the "focal length" or create your own custom metadata "mylens" tag and set it on import.

  • Search in Google no Longer works--still

Although it is visible, when I select text and choose "Search in Google" from within an e-mail, nothing happens. This holds true for both my imap and smtp accounts. Safari does not open, nor Firefox. I have tried setting and resetting my preferred browser. I am not sure, but I think this started with the last update. Help.

Hi Datron, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.

I have updated to Mozilla 16.0.1 and yahoo toolbar 2.4.8.20120412011105. Search assist now no longer works on the toolbar, nor does the enter key. I've reinstalled both Mozilla and the yahoo toolbar. I've followed the instructions given in the customize toolbar section, but I am thinking that perhaps this toolbar just doesn't work with Mozilla?

    Hi as2020,
If you are having issues with Mail in Mavericks, you may want to make sure you have updated to the most recent release. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Search in Mail no longer working

Trying to search emails for keywords no longer works, or returns no results. Clearly not the case as I can ultimately find the email if I look hard enough. Rebuilding mailbox did not resolve the issue.

Try rebuilding Spotlight (and check Spotlight Preferences; make sure Messages & Chats are included in search)

    HI Peter,
Yes, your Safari is that outdated. The most recent version of Safari is 4.1.3 for Tiger v10.4.11
Click your Apple menu / Software Update...
And from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences - Security. Delete all Google related cookies.
    Quit Safari / Relaunch Safari.

  • Restored Aperture from Time Machine backup.  No longer works :(

I have a late 2007 Aluminum iMac with a 500gb hard drive which decided to go about 2 weeks ago. I had apple care put a new one in. Everything works well except Aperture. If I try to launch the application it immediately comes back with a window saying that, "The application Aperture quit unexpectedly." If I click Relaunch a few times it prompts a Reset and Relaunch which does nothing. I have recently received 4gb of ram from crucial which doesn't work when all 4gb are installed but I am currently running 3gb and it works fine. (I have one gig of apple installed ram and a 2gb stick from crucial) Could the extra gig of ram be the issue? I am tempted to delete the program and reinstall it but I am not sure if that will also delete my 6,000 photos :/
    Any ideas?

I would first try deleting the preference file.
    username/library/preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
    If that didn't work I'd try a re-install.
Deleting the app should not affect the library, but is it not backed up in a "vault" anyway.
Don't really know if the ram could be an issue.

After updating to OSX 10.7.3, my search (spotlight) no longer works. Is there a fix for this?

Have you tried going to System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy and dragging your hard drive into the box then drag it back. That will trigger a re-index.

  • I updated to Firefox 3.6.8 and now I get an anycolor start page that keeps popping up and my google toolbar search no longer works.

Ever since updating to 3.6.8 I open firefox and get two tabs. One for my homepage and one which is an "Anycolor start page". Hugely annoying and can't stop the 2nd tab from popping up every time I start Firefox. Also my google toolbar search function no longer works. Type in a search and hit enter and nothing happens.

I have exactly the same problem. I entered Firefox in safe mode and deleted AnyColor from my addons. But now when I click on the addon button this is what I get:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623"
But nothing happens and I have to reboot my computer because it freezes on this message. Damn, I wish I had not upgraded to Firefox 3.6.8
    Somebody please help! Thanks

  • Sites using TALEO for job searches no longer works in 19, worked in last official 18 release

Company websites which use the TALEO job search/apply app/site, no longer work right in 19, they worked fine in 18.xx. Specially, the job search function does not work right when entering the TALEO job search parameters then hitting SEARCH FOR JOB does nothing. AN example site (which does not require registration) is https://nielsen.taleo.net/careersection/3/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en. If I make selections for JOB FIELD and/or LOCATIOn then hit SEARCH FOR JOB, nothing happends. Sites using TALEO worked fine in the last offical 18.x release. TALEO worksd fine in IE 7&Chrome 25.
Clearing the cache does not change behavior. Finally did a full FF reset--no change.
    WIN XP SP3 | Dell Dimension 4600 | 1.2 G RAM

I am running Firefox version 19.0.2 and I have the same problem. I am able to filter using Internet Explorer which I really don't like. Rather than users having to figure out why this isn't working either Taleo needs to fix their scripts or a fix needs to happen in Firefox.

  • Search for User by last logon date no longer works after upgrading to SPS18

We used to be able to Search by last logon date under User Administration as a quick way to find out who logged on for a particular date.  It worked well, but only for a single date range.  We were on EP 6.0 SPS13 at the time.  Since we have upgraded to SPS18, it no longer works.  All we get back now is no user found no matter what date we enter.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?  I've been searching and haven't found anything.  I wanted to try and get more information before I create an OSS message.
    Thank you,

  • Search function no longer works when Mail folder is encrypted

I posted a reply in another forum that has already been marked as answered...BUT I was not satisfied with the answer...Here is the link to that forum for some context:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6362207&#6362207
And here is basically what I posted there:
This problem is a result of my attempt to put my User/Library/Mail folder onto an encrypted disk image, so that my mail images would be encrypted without having to encrypt my WHOLE Account with FileVault (rendering Time Machine virtually useless). Like many, I had to create a symbolic link from the terminal rather than use the Alias...that wasn't a problem. I can send/receive/read/write email all while it stays safely encrypted on the Sparse disk image that I created (by the way THANKYOU for making creating the sparse BUNDLE image an option, this makes it useable for time machine so it doesn't back up the whole thing)...Mail appeared to work perfectly with my folder in the new location
HOWEVER...I quickly discovered that the search tool in the upper right hand corner of the Mail View no longer works...It will allow me to search the "from", "to" and "subject" lines like any old mail program would, BUT the "Entire Message" option returns on results. There must be something special about the Library folder in my Home folder, because I haven't restricted my spotlight settings. In fact with the disk mounted, I even re-indexed my WHOLE computer just to see what would happen. Spotlight is able to search for FILE names on my encrypted disk, but the search "Entire Message" still doesn't work...are there any solutions? I've spent a great deal of time searching the internet for a solution to no avail. I feel like this question requires a real mac genius, but there are other people throughout other forums posting the same question with no answer. I'm no genius, but I'm not afraid of using Terminal if I'm told the basic gist of what should be typed there. I would love to see his answered fully. Thanks!

Ahhh! The proverbial missing information. Thanks for clarifying. Apple always has plans to fix problems, but their timetable might not meet your expectations. I strongly suggest that you report this to Apple. Send Feedback and send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • HT201401 My bluetooth is no longer working in the car - it keeps 'searching' for devices

My bluetooth is no longer working in the car - it keeps 'searching' for devices.  Anyone ever had this issue?
    Thanks

Can you connect from your phone to another BT device, not the car?  If you haven't ,I'd try a reset of the phone by holding the home and power button down.  Next step would be to talk to your dealership and see if they have any ideas. Sometimes software can either get updated on iOS or on the vehicle and it can cause problems.  Every dealership seems to have a go-to person that handles issues like this.  Getting to know him or her well and getting their direct phone number will pay big dividends.  A device restore might be necessary, but if it were me I'd talk to the dealership first.

  • Finder's 'Search Contents' no longer working

I used to be able to use this to search for keywords in text files. Not the file-name, but the actual contents within the text file. It's no longer working. I'm wondering if perhaps FileVault is the problem? Can anyone else cross-verify this, or suggest possible solutions?

    OS Lucinity wrote:
Also, .as files are actionscript docs.
Unfortunately extensions alone are not always unique file type identifiers, especially short ones that may have had origins in the "dot plus three" restrictions of DOS. OS X uses multiple criteria to make a 'best guess' at the file type, including filename extensions, Finder info, & even OS 9 style type & creator codes if present. It compares this info to type identifiers in application bundles registered with launch services (which determines which if any apps appear in the "Open with" Finder contextual menu popup & the choices in the "Get Info" window).
Thus, what Finder shows for "Kind" can vary depending on the applications installed & the metadata associated with the file at the time of creation or re-saving it.
Also, some apps include mdimporters in their bundles or installers. It may be that the mdimporter of the 'parent' app of the actionscript docs (if included) isn't playing well with the latest Leopard update, or that the file type isn't being recognized by launch services properly. (This is a simplification of a complex topic that frankly I do not completely understand as well as I would like.)
Anyway, it may be that an update to the app, reinstalling it, or rebuilding the launch services database may cause the contents of these files to be indexed again without need of a third party importer. Or, the third party importer may be a simpler or more effective solution for you.
I wish I could be more definite about this, but perhaps someone else with a better grasp of the topic can suggest the best way to go.

  • Mail search using e-mail addresses not longer works after 10.6 update?

I just updated to 10.6 from 10.5. I have also added all the software updates.
The search function no longer works for e-mail addresses. I used to right-click on an address, copy and paste in search. Now, when I do that, it lists like this : NAME <[email protected]> (sample info) instead of just the e-mail address. In this new form, the search function no longer functions. Is there a way to revert to the old way mail copies e-mail address?
I do not want to have to delet ethe name & out of each paste.
    input greatly appreciated!

    Perfect! Works like a charm.
For others looking for the fix.
In 10.6, it seems someone at Apple decided that Copy Address should really mean Copy Name And Address And Add Angle Brackets Around The Address, because that's exactly what happens when you use Copy Address in Snow Leopard's Mail app. Instead of getting [email protected] on the clipboard, you get Sue Sample <[email protected]>.
Besides now having an incorrect name on the Copy Address contextual menu item (thought admittedly, the alternative is a bit lengthy), this behavior is incredibly irritating if you want only the email address on the clipboard. Thankfully, some engineer somewhere deep within Apple included a hidden preference to change this behavior -- and the fine folks at Mac Daddy World (the Ecamm Network blog site) dug deep and discovered this preference.
To revert to the 10.5-style behavior in Mail, first quit Mail then enter this command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.mail AddressesIncludeNameOnPasteboard -bool NO
