ApEx and XML

Hi Guys,
I have been searching this forum if some one implemented a scenario something like mine here.
In my project I am creating users to access my application and storing in a table and at the same time the user information must be sent to a different application(business rule) within the intranet(SSL Enabled Web Service) in an XML format. When I post the user information to that web service, it returns me the result back in an XML format.
One solution I could think is to use UTL_HTTP package to post and get the information to the web servcies(I did this in my last project using just PL/SQL).
Is there any other solution in ApEx to post and get the data from a web services.
I saw some help on ApEx about configuring SSL Enabled Web Services but not sure how exactly it works. Also when I tried to configure it errored out as I do not have Oracle Wallet Manager configured. So before I proceed any further I would like to take some of your best inputs.

APEX and iText PDF generation

Hi,
Has any one used iText in apex to generate PDF documents in APEX. The reason for me to look for a solution to generate PDF documents like invoice, Purchase Order for different customer in different format. Since the online hosting companies have different reporting services like (JasperReport/Oracle BI publisher etc) it is a pain full procedure to have rtf and XML-FO. If I use iText within the PL/SQL procedure which will generate PDF document by supplying PDF form and XML data.
In this case the client can create there PDF form which can be filled by XML data.

I had a look but seems like I have use command line to execute the process. You do.
I want to generate from PL/SQL. My package does. Mind you -- I have to make use of a host command to perform the actual integration. When a process 'prints' to a PDF, it supplies the PDF form to be filled in, the specific fields to be filled in, and the values for the fields. I write these values out to an FDF file for the appropriate PDF form on the OS, then call PDFTK via a host command to integrate the blank PDF and the newly-created FDF into a 'filled' PDF form. I then email the completed PDF file to the user that requested it.

Multiple Apex Listeners on one server trouble with apex-config.xml

I'm using 0C4J to deploy apex on a windows server. I want to be able to have multiple instances of OC4J running pointing to different databases. I've read through documentation and forum posts and this looks simple enough.
I've got one instance running at E:\OC4J and working fine. I've to added a second OC4J instance at E:\OC4J2. I've rebuilt and redeployed the apex.war file after editing web.xml to specify a new location for apex-config.xml. I'm trying to specify the config directory as E:\OC4J2\config but can't seem to get the syntax right, because it keeps picking up the default file the first OC4J instance is using.

<param-value>E:\oc4j2\config</param-value>
</context-param>
I've tried multiple versions of the path E:\oc4j2\config, E:/oc4j2/config, /oc4j2/config, \oc4j2\config but none seem to work.
Could anybody confirm the proper syntax for specifying the path to apex-config.xml in web.xml on a windows server?

Got it working
Had the syntax right.
<context-param>
<param-name>config.dir</param-name>
<param-value>E:\oc4j2\config</param-value>
</context-param>
Issue seems to be if there is an apex-config.xml file at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\apex it picks up on it first.
Once I had both web.xml files specified to different directories for the config file and I deleted the one at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\apex things worked as expected.

Apex and Jasper Report Integration

Hi all,
If someone was interested to try another way for pdf generation from an apex application can try our Report Chunker based on Jasper Report and now avaiable to download on :

The latest release includes an APEX DEMO APPLICATION.

A few points here.
Documentation:
You need to state what permissions are required.
eg create table, create sequence, create trigger, read/write directory.
You should also mention the authentication method you use.
Fortunately I could figure that out myself.
Now bearing in mind I am your typical target audience, I have no knowledge of Jasper reports, and very little knowledge of java and xml. So I'm now stuck as I don't know what to use for the xml layout or how to write my report.
At least provide an example xml layout, a example report and a link to where the reports cab be obtained.
If we need to have anything on the system before we start (eg jasper reports) then this should also be stated (including minimum required version)
Thats it. Unfortunately I can't go any further until I know more.

Apex-config.xml is broken after password change with encryption

I am using Apex Listener 1.1 with Oracle GlassFish Open Source Edition 3.1.
I found something strange when changing the connection password in apex-config.xml.
If I change the password to keep it plain text like the following, it works fine.
<entry key="apex.db.password">my_password</entry>
But if I change the password to a value to be encrypted, the new password is accepted but the configuration file get messed up.
<entry key="apex.db.password">!my_password2</entry>
After restarting the listener, I get the following content in my apex-config.xml.

Needless to say that after the next restart nothing works. Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

You have corrupted your web.xml somehow, repeat the steps making sure the web.xml is well formed.

How to open and XML file?

Does anyone have a way on Mac to open an XML file for viewing. This can be done with WIN Excel and XML toolkit but doesn't exist for Mac Excel in Office 2008. I can open with TextEdit but would like to see the info with headers and cells without all the XML coding. Numbers 09 can't open it at all.

Numbers uses XML to build the description of the documents but it's not an XML editor.
A simple search in Google with the intricate key string xml editor AND mac return numerous interesting links.

HTML and XML files open in same window(KM Navigation iView)

I have created a KM navigation which is pointing the folder inside the documents repository. This folder contains HTML and XML files. It is rendering fine. But, when I click on the file links in KM Navigation iView, it is opening in new window.Here I need to open in same window. How can I acheive this?. Please help me.

Problems with reports and XML-publisher - No XML

Hi!
I'm having a problem with Apps and XML-publisher. I made a report file, which queries some views. When executing in reports, I get all the data I expect.
Now, when I upload the reportfile to Apps and let it generate XML, my xml-file is empty (well, almost empty)

OK, finally solved the problem... A good night's sleep always helps ;).
After just trying each queried table one after an other, I found the problem:
The difference between Oracle Apps (Dutch locale) and the reports builder (English) is the language... And our functional people have changed some names, but the Dutch ones, leaving the english names in place and one of the tables I query has language specific data, which is also appears in a where clause.

Have itl and xml files on external hd am running home premium. can no longer access files, am told this is because they were created with a newer version of itunes. also when i try to download 10.3 it wont, just says invalid drive j and for me to try aga

Older versions of iTunes cannot read libraries created with newer versions of iTunes. You need to have the same version of iTunes on all your PCs. Is that the case?

How to disable 'Save' button when OAF and XML Publisher integrated...URGENT

Hi,
I am new to the OA Framework and XML publisher. I have been working on a requirement where I am designing a new page in Manager Self Service with few fields and a submit button. Also designed a RTF template in XML publisher to display the output in PDF format.
When the details are entered on the page and click on 'Submit' button, the PDF will Open with the data populated. This is working perfectly... thanks to the forum.
But my issue is: When the submit button is clicked, it displayes a dialog box with Open/Save/Cancel options and if I click the 'Open', the PDF will be opened. But my client is a retail client and they don't want store managers to save this PDF so either I have to skip this dialog box and directly open the PDF or I have to disable the 'Save' on the dialog box.
Gurus -- Please help me how to achieve this. This is very urgent

But do you want me to try ControllerContext.getInstance().getCurrentViewPort().isDataDirty(); in button disable property?
I have written one method in my am like
public boolean isTransactionDirty(){

and exposed that method to client side and i try to use this method in my button disable property as

Create PDF report with APEX and Oracle 11g doesn't work

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with the downloading of PDF reports from APEX with Oracle 11g.
When I try to download a PDF, Acrobat Reader says it can not open the file.
I have done the same test in an environment with APEX and Oracle 10g and it works perfectly.
Does anyone know if there is a known bug for version 11g.

Well, as a very crude test you can set your authentication scheme to be Application Express Authenticationand define some users in Apex. Then create a before header login process on the login page (101) to automatically logon containing:
apex_authentication.login(
p_username => :P101_USERNAME,
p_password => :P101_PASSWORD );
:P101_PASSWORD := NULL;conditional on P101_PASSWORD is not null.
Then you can login by specifying your username and password in the URL e.g.
f?p=YOURAPP:LOGIN:::::P101_USERNAME,P101_PASSWORD:username,password

I want to make a data mapping between sybase relational data result set and xml.
I am using the function ForXmlTree for this purpose, I have the entire documentation about the synatx and usage of it, but i need to know what support does JAVA have for it.
What files need to be installed .

Java framework/toolkit for POJO, database persistence and XML

Hi all,
I've been wondering if there's a toolkit or framework for developing Java program (could be standalone Java program, EJBs etc.)
I surfed around casually and found some but there isn't any detailed description of what and how each framework/toolkit does. So I hope to ask around if you've anything that you have used before and would like to point to me to look further.
Given the huge number of open source toolkits, libraries and frameworks out there, it can be quite confusing as to which one is more suitable for me. Also with Sun's move into JDO and Java Persistence API, things become more messy and complicated - there isn't any clear leader in this area and things are starting to change with the inclusion of JDO which seems to be the future standard persistence API to use.
So far, I've only worked with Hibernate for database persistence before. So I'm wondering if there're other options such as Hibernate with XDoclet, Castor and Spring framework etc. that can easily transform Plain Old Java Objects (POJO) -- hopefully using Java Reflection w/o using mapping XML files like in Hibernate -- into SQL for database persistence and XML text data and vice-versa. The current problem is that I've been spending tons of time writing code to transform data in Java objects into XML (using my own format) and also doing mapping files for Hibernate.
I am hoping for something simple like:

o.setProperty = "something";
String xml = o.toXML(); // Convert object to XML text.
o.save(); // Save to database.
// The reverse: Parse XML into object and load from database
Object o = new Object();
o.fromXML(xml);

Just to share what I've found after surfing a bit more on this issue to promote more discussion on this area.
For mapping of Java objects to XML, we can try looking more at Castor and JAXB.
For database persistence to/from Java objects, look at Hibernate and JDO.
There is this Hydrate project (hydrate.sourceforge.net) that I do not know where it fits in still. But it is supposed to do data transformation and mapping between Java objects, XML and database representation.
