Apex Cache Report Region Page

Morning guys,
I have an interactive report that takes about 5 seconds to generate and was wondering if I could cache this?
The user simply clicks a record in the report which take them to page 2. They then click the back button to return to page 1 but the report re generates even though the data is not really changing.
Any help would be excellent.
PS: I have tried page caching but this makes the template go all dodgy.
Apex 4.0
Thanks in advance...

I'm not sure about caching, but would putting the data into a materialized view help? That gives you the benefit of being able to pull data from one table (quick), even though it's actually built from slower, more complex logic.

  • Version 3.1 fault - ORA-06502 error when creating SQL Report Region/Page

    I usually perfect my query in SQL*PLUS before I create a new report region.
    Consequently, I copy the code into the region wizard to create the new page. However, since we have upgraded to Version 3.1, virtually every report I have tried to create has created the following error:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    It would appear that a maximum of 960 characters can be used to create the region/page. Perversely, once the page/region has been created, I can then edit the source and include as much code as I want (so far I've not run up against a limit)
    As it's just annoying, but not stopping me doing what I wanted to do, I've not got around to mentioning this error previously, but it occurred to me that I should (so I am!)

    Hi David,
    Thank you for reporting this. Unfortunately, this was a regression introduced in Application Express 3.1. The workaround is to edit the region, as you suggested. This has been filed as Bug 6956070 and will be corrected in the forthcoming Application Express 3.1.1 patch set.

  • Apex 4.2 dynamic action to refresh a report region on a different page

    Hi,
    I open up a pop up window from a report region. When the user is done in the pop-up window and closes it, can I trigger a refresh on the report region using dynamic actions without actually reloading the whole page? I know I can use dynamic action on a page to refresh the report region on the same page.
    Thanks,
    Sinan

    Sinan,
    So long as the region to be refreshed is still loaded, you can do this. I don't know how you are loading your pop-up or unloading it but, the principle should be the same as what I provide below.
    Assume that you have set the static ID for your report to MY_REPORT. (Be sure you have checked "Allow Partial Page Refresh" in the Report Attributes).
    $('#confirmBox').find('div#userConfirmationMessage').html( '<span class="userInputRequest">Would you to Refresh your Report?</span>' );
    $('#confirmBox').dialog(
        autoOpen: true,
        modal: true,
        title: 'Refresh Conformation',
        buttons:
            'No': function ()
                $(this).dialog('close');
            'Yes': function ()
                $(this).dialog('close');
                 $('#MY_REPORT').trigger('apexrefresh');

  • Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report using Page Zero

    Hi,
    I want to implement an «Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report» using a «page zero».
    I recently migrate from Apex 3.1 to Apex 4.2 and my «Custom pagination for APEX 3.1 interactive report» using a «page zero»  is not working any more.
    So now I try to adapt an excellent example of Jari Laine for 4.0 but using a page zero.
    I put the code JavaScript to Page zero but I must create an dynamic action to fire only for an interactive report region.
    It’s a good idea?
    Thank you

    Thought I would try once more with my DatePicker question.
    On the Apex.Oracle.Com website I have created a 1 page application that has an Interactive Report.
    [url http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=15655:1]
    user = 'test'
    password = 'test'
    I have 2 questions :
    (1) In IE7, press 'Actions', 'Filter'. On the Column dropdown list, select 'Order Timestamp'.
    Notice the prompt icon to the right of the 'expression'. This should change to the Datepicker, but in IE7 it does not. Try the samething in Firefox or Chrome and the Datepicker will appear.
    Is this a BUG, or does Apex 4.02 not support IE7 ?
    (2) In Firefox or Chrome, where you can now see the Datepicker, you will notice that it is the new style picker, not the old style ( called 'classic' ). I want to change it so that it shows the 'classic' datepicker not the new, but cannot see how to do it, if indeed you actually can.
    I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look and let me know if I am going mad, or if we need to get all our users onto IE8. We have now gone live with Apex 4.02 and need to resolve these issues.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hide 'No data found' msg in report region  when you 1st click search page

    Hi,
    (sorry if it's confusing but my APEX is in FRENCH and I tried to translate)
    I created a search page in my application.
    1- I have an HTML region, with a search box and I search button
    2- I've got a report region (PL/SQL source) which sometimes returns no data, giving a 'No Data Found.' message.
    When I click on the search page for the 1st time (on my navigation bar), I would like to HIDE the report region so I don't have the " No Data Found" message.
    Only Once we click on the search button and there is no result, I want to have the message "No Data FOund"
    How can I achieve this?
    thanks
    Roseline

    1. create a hidden element on your page (P1_HIDDEN_ELEMENT)
    2. put your No Data Found message in a span tag
    <span id="no_data_found">No Data Found</span>3. create an on load computation to set your P1_HIDDEN_ELEMENT to 'no_data_found' if it is NULL and to set it to ' ' if it is NOT NULL - type PL/SQL Function Body
    BEGIN
       IF :p1_hidden_element IS NULL
       THEN
          RETURN '<script>html_HideElement(''no_data_found'');</script>';
       ELSIF :p1_hidden_element IS NOT NULL
       THEN
          RETURN ' ';
       END IF;
    END;4. Put this into the page footer:
    &P1_HIDDEN_ELEMENT.The other solution would be to create a display region - pure HTML and to display that first. Once the search is started that region would remain hidden and only the report would show up.

  • "Between NVL" - Works in SQL Command, not in APEX report region

    First, I realize I could use dynamic SQL (model 4), but I don't want to (too hard just yet).
    I have a select statement with a series of Where conditions that employ values, in bind variables, supplied by the user.
    I want the choice of parameters to be optional, so I am checking for and replacing nulls.
    Select emp_name from employee_table where
    emp_rating between nvl(:p7_rating_choice, 0) and nvl(:p7_rating_choice, 99)
    and
    emp_language_no between nvl(:p7_lang_choice, 0) and nvl(:p7_lang_choice, 99);
    (the binds should be numeric).
    The actual statement is quite a bit longer, but the point is that the BETWEEN NVL(:x, min) AND NVL(:x, max) piece does not seem to work when used in a report region.
    It works fine if ALL parameters are provided, but returns an error if one or more are null.
    In the SQL command window it works (with a pop-up) just fine.
    By the way, the :p7_lang_choice bind variable is chosen from a LOV list which works in all other cases.
    Also, if I disable nulls (choosing "no" in ITEM page), everything works fine. It seems that the substitution of the min and max values via the NVL returns the wrong data type.
    Any ideas what I have done wrong?

    Thanks Scott.
    Every day brings a little more understanding!
    I also noticed a simplified method in the APEX documentation (although there was no explanation of the code) as follows:
    Where
    (column = :p1_user_input_1 OR :p1_user_input_1 = [null substitution value])
    AND
    (column = :p1_user_input_2 OR :p1_user_input_2 = [null substitution value])
    AND
    etc...
    Using the value you provide in the LOV section for the null, the second part of the OR handles the null situation.
    For some reason I was so tied up with comparing to the column that I never thought to have an OR with a compare to something else.
    Oh well.
    Thanks,
    Norm

  • Apex 4.2 Report region sql query with "apex_item.text" renders wrongly

    In APEX 4.2 page i have created region "Report data".
    Type="SQl Query".
    "User Interface"-->"Template"="Reports Region".
    "Region Source"="select apex_item.text(1, '111') as c1 from dual".
    Actually the select query is little bit more complex, but generally simplified it is such, that it uses function "select apex_item.text" to construct HTML textfield.
    If i run in Sql Developer query
    select apex_item.text(1, '111') as c1 from dual;Then result is:
    <input type="text" name="f01" size="20" maxlength="2000" value="111"  />But in APEX 4.2 the report is rendered so:
    <td  headers="c1">&lt ;input type=&quot ;text&quot ; name=&quot;f01&quot; size=&quot;20&quot; maxlength=&quot;2000&quot; value=&quot;111&quot;  /&gt ;</td>(for this forum to display correctly i had to put extra spaces between" &gt" and ";" and so on)
    And APEX 4.2 shows ugly html inside report cell/slot for me, displaying characters/symbols ">". The reason is that APEX HTML page source does not have symbol ">" but has " &gt ;" .
    In APEX 3 i have similar query working well, without such anomaly.
    What attribute should i change in APEX 4.2 region to display my query result as needed?
    I need that function "apex_item.text", i cannot remove it.

  • Refresh PL/SQL Report Region (not Page) using Select List value

    Hi,
    I've got a report region based on a 'PL/SQL function body returning a SQL query'which gets generated on selecting a value from a Select list item, The Select List action is 'Redirect and Set value' but this causes the whole page to refresh rather than just the report region. I've tried to refresh the report only using a dynamic action on the Select List item (Action now reset to  'None') but now the report is not appearing on choosing from the List. Can anyone suggest a solution that will allow me to refresh this report without refreshing the page? I am using APEX 4.2.2 and the report syntax is as follows:
    DECLARE
      v_statement VARCHAR2(500);
    BEGIN
      SELECT query_text
        INTO v_statement
       FROM sql_queries
       WHERE query_id = :P2_QUERY ;
       RETURN v_statement ;
    END ;
    where P2_QUERY is Select List Item,
    regards,
    Kevin.

    KevinFitz wrote:
    The report region being displayed is conditional on P2_QUERY item being NOT NULL. I assume the region not appearing is because the Action for the Select List Item is set to None and so P2_QUERY is always NULL.
    No, the region is not appearing because it is conditional on P2_QUERY being NOT NULL. This means that the report region never exists on the page shown in the browser, so it can't be dynamically refreshed. (Dynamic refresh doesn't evaluate region conditions, and it only re-renders the report content, not the entire region.)
    Remove the condition on the report region, check the refresh is working, then reconsider exactly what the requirements here are. If you want the region to appear only when P2_QUERY has a value, and you want it to be refreshed without submitting and re-rendering the page, then the region needs to be hidden rather than conditionally rendered, and shown via a dynamic action when P2_QUERY gets a value.
    I tried adding an additional Set Value True Action for the DA event but got an error as listed above,
    All irrelevant if Page Items to Submit on the region is used properly.

  • Apex 4.1 different font text in Reports Region and Interactive reporting

    Hi everybody,
    In my APEX 4.1 page, I have two regions using the same ''Reports region" Template but font text are different. Why The first region is an interactive reporting. The second it's a report. I know that each one has his own data for sure but the same region template .Spaces between colons are different. Is it normal ?  I want to have the same font text for the two regions.
    Thanks in advance. Bye.

    Theme 13 is not an APEX 4.x theme ? How I can know that is one of this serie ?
    Legacy themes are flagged with a "*" in the theme gallery. Standards mode themes are not. (I don't have access to APEX 4.1 at present to be able to identify specific themes.)
    Properties of interactive report components, is it possible to take a look on this properties or it's a "black box" ?
    You can either look in the global APEX style sheet, or (probably more usefully) use a browser web inspector to examine the CSS properties of the IR components in the page.

  • Can I set up a Master-Detail Page with report regions for 2 Detail Tables?

    Hi there,
    I am just starting to use Application Express.
    I have a Table (A) with Master-Detail relationships to two Tables B & C.
    I can set up a Master-Detail Page between Table A and Table B, where the records displayed in Table B change when switching between records in Table A. I would like to add Table C to the page and for this to work in the same way.
    Is this possible in APEX? (I've tried adding a report region for Table C and making the Region Source dependent on the same ID field as is used by the report region for Table B but I keep getting "No Data Found" for Table C).
    Many thanks.

    Thanks, but the text needs to be on a single master page which every page is assigned to. This is so the text alternates correctly regardless of whether new pages are inserted or moved. If I assigned separate master pages to individual pages and then moved the pages to a different location, the alternating footer text would then fall out of sync. I hope that made sense!

  • Insert a report region in a page template

    Hi,
    i have a report region in the sidebar of a page which displays some values from a table.
    i would like to show this report in every page of my application. how can i insert this report in my page template?
    i know this report of mine should be displayed in #REGION POSITION 2# of my page template but... i don't know how to integrate it.
    thank you very much,
    matteo

    Hi matteo,
    You can put your report in page Zero.
    Every elements you put in page zero will display in all your application pages.
    However if you don't want the report to display in some page, like the login page, you must put a condition in the conditional display settings.

  • APEX 3.0 Print report region

    When I want to print a report region, and choose A4 as "Paper Size", Adobe cannot open the PDF document. Adobe says that the document is not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.
    When I choose Letter as "Paper Size" the PDF document is generated as expected without any errors.
    Does A4 not work?
    Greetings,
    Guido

    I have configured printing to work in my version of Apex. I am running APEX 3.0 on a 10gR2 platform. The steps I did were as follows:
    - Install a working JDK and add the JAVA_HOME\bin directory to you path
    - Follow the instructions on this page (under Apache-FOP heading): http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
    Only two downloads are necessary - the JSP and the FOP from apache. Use the lower link, and download a -bin file on windows.
    - Follow instructions on where to place files, and the edit application.xml configuration.
    - Set up OC4J - cd Oracle_home\oc4j. Read the readme.
    - In essence this means
    1) cd Oracle_home\oc4j\j2ee\home and run "java -jar oc4j.jar -install"
    2) OC4J now needs to be started - "java -jar oc4j.jar"
    3) Point your browser at http://localhost:8888, and the page should show. If not, you can check the command window for OC4J to see any errors - I am not an expert, it just worked for me.
    - Now set up APEX through admin (again using instructions in the link) to specify the print attributes
    - Make sure OC4J is running and try to print a report
    - Hey presto, Bob's your uncle!
    Obviously, OC4J needs to run on the server to generate the prints.
    Hope this helps,
    Graham

  • Mutliple report regions on the same page querying same tbl

    Hello,
    I have a normal multiple report regions in a page with some editable in those regions, these report regions are querying the same table. Now, Is it possible to have one submit button for all the report regions to update the underlying table data?
    Can anyone please help me out with this one.
    thanks,
    Orton

    Sure, here are some details:
    Oracle apex version: Product Build:4.2.3.00.07
    Tables :
    STUDENTS - rows : student_id(PK), student_name ...
    COURSES - rows: course_id(PK), course_name, course_credit
    STUDENT_COURSE - rows: student_id(FK), course_id(FK), student_course_id(PK)
    I have a page where I show student's details. On this page I have access to student's id. The name of the field (on the page) is P9_STUDENT_ID. On the same page I want to have a table which is linked to an sql query that lists a student's courses, their credits, names etc.
    My sql query is the following:
    SELECT courses.course_id, courses.course_name, courses.course_credit
    FROM student_course INNER JOIN courses
                        on courses.course_id = student_course.course_id
                        WHERE student_course.student_id = 1
    Currently it displays all courses of student with Id = 1. I just want to replace this '1' with the actual student_id for the student we are currently displaying information for. Or, in this case P9_STUDENT_ID field's value. Don't know if this is the right way to do this, but still reading for options
