Apex / HTML Application server failure

Dear Apex experts,
I have a strange behaviour of my Apex installation here :
If I don't use Apex for some hours (e.g. in the night) the becomes disfunctional.
This means in my case, that I have all processes running (in my case 2 opmn proceses)
but they don't react to network access any more.
If I try to restart the processes using opmnctl stopall that commant hangs and I have to kill
the opmn processes manually a to restart them.
If I try to stop the processe I get the error below :
oracle@Oracle2db logs > /opt/oracle/product/10.2/apex/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall
RCV: Connection reset by peer
Communication error with the OPMN server local port.
Check the OPMN log files
RCV: Connection reset by peer
Communication error with the OPMN server local port.
Check the OPMN log files
I checked my ons.log and found this entry from last night :
09/09/09 00:44:36 [2] Connection 0,127.0.0.1,6113 header RCV failed (Bad file descriptor) coFlags=812
09/09/09 00:44:36 [2] Connection 0,127.0.0.1,6113 header RCV failed (Bad file descriptor) coFlags=812

09/09/09 00:44:36 [2] Connection 0,127.0.0.1,6113 header RCV failed (Bad file descriptor) coFlags=812
I use the original Application server from the oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.1 installation CD. My OS is a suse Linux 10.2.
Are there some known bugs with that version ?
Do you have an idea what could be wrong with my installation or can you give me any hints how to check what couold be
wrong ?
Are there any workarounds for such a problem ?
Best regards,
Daniel

What is the version of Application Express?
Are there any workarounds for such a problem ?That, of course, is an inappropriate question, at least at this point.

  • Report Application Server Failure

    Hello All,
I tried to import crystal reports into a folder in infoview and I got the below error message.
    Error message:
Adding Crystal Report "AP Open Items_US.rpt" failed. A server communication error occurred. All servers with kind rptappserver could be down or disabled by the administrator.
I checked CMC and I found out the Report Application Server(RAS) was down. I tried start/restart and force termination. All my efforts to bring it up were in vain.
I checked the properties of RAS and I see a error message in red
This server is considered failed because it has stopped 5 time(s) in 60 minute(s).
    System Details:
BOBJ Edge 3.1 on windows server in virtual environment.
I have installed Fixpack 1.1 and 1.2 for server components and client components
Any idea why the RAS is down? Any possible solutions?
    Any input is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shivkumar

Also I have tried cloning the server.
I stopped and disabled the existing RAS and then cloned it and try to bring it up. That didnt work either.
I also tried restarting the BOBJ server.
Also under C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\serverpids where process id for each server gets created , I don't see any process id for RAS.
    Thanks

  • Where is the Oracle Application Server for Apex 3.2.1?

Hi, I feel ashamed asking this, but I want to know where to download the Application Server for Apex 3.2.1. Apex is installed in a DataBase 10gR1 and the O.S. where I will install the Application Server is RedHat
    I think it is here
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/index.html
But there is a lot of links and things to download and I don't even know if it will work because it is Release 3 and the DataBase is Release 1, but I tried downloading the "Oracle 10gR3 Companion (10.1.3.x) CD", but after running the installer in the disk1, I found that the Oracle HTTP Server that it would install does not include mod_plsql and I know I need it.
So, which one should I download, or where can I find it?
    Thanks.

Strictly speaking you do not need Application Server or OHS for running Apex, you have an option in ApexListener. If it is a small installation then stick to EPG that comes built-in.
Try downloading the Oracle HTTP Server from here . You will need to check the commercial aspects yourself as OHS is not a free software for Production environment, AFAIK.

  • Oracle application server 10g and apex

    Hi allm
Can someone show me a guide on how to use Oracle Application Server 10g with APEX. I'm currently using Oracle HTTP Server but decided to use OAS instead so that I can use the Report Server and the Oracle BI Publisher for the reports.
I'm currently using this guide (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/howto_useoas10g.html) but I can't seem to find the marvel.conf and the oracle_apache.conf.
Also, is it really necessary to use OAS instead of Oracle HTTP Server if I want to use Oracle BI Publisher?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately I still get the same problem. Somehow I just can't find the marvel.conf anywhere in my machine. I setup my APEX not by using the companion cd but by downloading the apex_3.1.2 then running the apexins.sql. Then install the Oracle HTTP Server only and configured the dads.conf located in the ORACLE_HTTP_SERVER_HOME/Apache/Apache/mod_plsql/conf. It works perfectly with this.
I then installed Oracle Application Server 10g. I'm trying to figure out how to use this instead of the Oracle HTTP Server.
    Thanks.

  • Application Server for APEX

    Hello APEX community
We have alredy APEX in use. Now we want to introduce a Application-Server on a SunOS (sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240). The Question is: Witch program should we use from oracle "Application-Server"? It has many possibilities. Wath we wont to have is an easy Application-Server from Oracle. The Application run's only on LAN. The Application-server should only serve Applex with all the needet programms e.g. php.
May we ask you witch Application-Server Programm from Oracle should we use. There should be the latest version and as mentioned only for Appex e.g. 3.2 and no other functions. For hints and tips many thanks in advance Best regards Ulrich

  • Apex Listener vs. Oracle Application Server... advantages?

Are there advantages to installing Apex Listener over using an existing Oracle Application Server instance to serve Apex applications?
We have an existing application server instance in production. Would introducing Apex Listener and the extra overhead be of any advantage?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

    Hello "Portal Dude",
Are there advantages to installing Apex Listener over using an existing Oracle Application Server instance to serve Apex applications?APEX Listener introduces some additional features, such as Resource Templates, but lacks some others. Some people might want to migrate from OAS to another JEE Container that doesn't come along with a OHS/mod_plsql. Depending on the JEE Container, you could use AJP for load balancing, avoiding plain HTTP through a firewall, etc.
Would introducing Apex Listener and the extra overhead be of any advantage? The "extra overhead" may be smaller than you think. If you don't need the HTTP_Server component any longer, but can just deploy APEX Listener on the OC4J of your OAS, you might even save some bytes.
For several other aspects, there have been a few posts on that topic in the past:
    {thread:id=1100122}
    {thread:id=1555908}
    {thread:id=1594158}
If there's anything you don't find in either the posts or the documentation, don't hesitate to ask.

  • APEX Listener versus classic Application Server

Currently we use the APEX Listener with the stand-alone configuration to access the URL af an APEX application.
This might not be a suitable situation for a production environment.
In a short, here are the (possible) requirements:
    - Sessions must be able to access at the same time the same APEX application and page.
Let's say 500 users should be able to access it with no trouble.
    - If there are some pages accessed very frequently, they should be cached (how?) without having to request them all the time from the database.
    - If more than 500 users are accessing the application, to avoid latency, there should be a "mechanism" to make them "waiting" until the allowed amount of concurrent sessions is below 500, and without impacting (or with low impact) of other working sessions.
I have little knowledge of middle ware environment, but this seems to me specifications for an application server and or a web server.
    Hera are my questions:
    1) Is it possible to implement such above mechanism with the APEX Listener?
    2) If not possible, what should I consider?
Thanks by advance for sharing your experience.
    Kind Regards.

Standalone mode is not supported for production environments, see here for why:

Essentially you are asking how do I tune the number of database connections and also how do I tune the number of HTTP request handling threads.
The former is controlled via the Listener configuration files, specifying the size of the connection pool etc, if you look at the configuration file or use the SQL Developer Listener admin tool the settings are pretty self explanatory, the latter is controlled by the application server, see below for WebLogic documentation on this:

  • HTML file Error while Processing in Application server AL11

    Hi Experts,
I have SAP workload data in HTML file and IF i download it using GUI_DOWNLOAD, I am successfully able to access the file.
    But Further:
    1) I am uploading the above mentioned downloaded file in binary mode.
    2) Converting binary to xstring
    3) Adding and saving to ZIP folder using class CL_ABAP_ZIP
    4) Converting back ZIP file to Binary mode
    5) Transferring it to sever path using dataset ( character by character)
But after transfer, I try to access file using T code AL11, there file is created by on opening, it shows HTML tag along with the data i.e formatting error.
    How to handle this.
    Thanks
    Deep.

    Hi,
Try downloading the file from application server using the transaction CG3Y, while saving the file, save as HTML file.
Still if you find the formatting error, then open the view -> source code of the HTML page, and adjust the space, line space, alignment etc if any, will resolve your issue.

  • Can apex work without the oracle applications server? How?

My question is just what the title says.
Can apex work without the Oracle applications server?
I've heard it needs a web server to work but not necessarly the oracle applications server.
    Is it true?
With ONLY apache installed can apex work on top of it?

    Hello,
Take a look at the Installation Guide which covers all the different options you have (as there are a few variations) -
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/install.32/e13366/toc.htm
but yes, in short you can have a configuration where there is no external webserver which uses the embedded PL/SQL gateway.
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • How to install APEX in a server database, instead XE database?

Hi, sorry but I'm new with APEX.
Till today I've just used it to simple applications inside a XE database, but now I've to use it in a production database.
Should I use the enterprise database, which is an Oracle 11G, or should I install it inside the database that comes with the Oracle Application Server (OAS)?
Is there a documentation to teach how to install the last version of Apex inside this database?
Thank you in advance and sorry for the silly question?

You can install APEX in a regular database - documentation is at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/welcome.html

    Hello,
I'm really sorry but this is a typo on my part. It should be "You can't have two different APEX versions on the same instance."
Does it mean that if we install ApEx v3 we will have only ApEx v3?Yes. This is exactly what it means. The installation script automatically detect previous installed APEX (or earlier HTML DB ) version, and upgrade it. You can end up with only one version per instance.

  • Urgent-Application server 9 will not start

The Sun Java System Application System could not start. I am using Netbeans 5.5. The following was displayed.
More information about the causes is in the Server log file.
    Possible reasons include;
    - IDE timeoout: refresh the server node to see if its running now.
    - Port conflicts. (use netstat - a to detect possible port numbers already used by the operating system.)
    - Incorrupt server configuration (domain.xml to be corrected manually)
    - Corrupted Deployed Applications preventing the server to start. (This can be seen in the server.log file. In this case, domain.xml needs to be modified).
I would like to reset the domain.xml file as though no project has ever been deployed to the server how can this be done. Please help.
