APEX vs. APEX studio

My apologies, I am new to APEX.
(1) Is there a difference in functionality between APEX studio and APEX? If so, any summary of differences is appreciated.
(2) If different, will examples on OTN APEX Studio run in APEX 3.0 envrionment?
Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,
the OTN APEX Studio is an APEX application with the purpose to provide useful tips and tricks for APEX.

  • Error when print report from apex using apex listener 2

    Hi
    Apex 4.2
I want print report to pdf from apex using apex listener 2.
The print server 'Oracle APEX listener' has been defined at the instance-level.
    ACL has been configured.
I attempt to download a report in PDF mode, it appears that it downloads,
but when I go to open it up I get an error that the file is of the wrong type or possibly corrupt.
Upon opening the file in Text editor, there is an error as below
    %PDF-1.4
    1 瀛楄妭鐨?UTF-8 搴忓垪鐨勫瓧鑺?1 鏃犳晥銆?

If you use Windows the user that runs the reports server is usually LocalSystem. Check this in the Windows Services panel.
LocalSystem has no printer access. To be able to print, you have to use a real domain user that has access to the printer. So, change the Log on properties in the Services panel.

  • APEX slow  Apex Slow

    Hello all
    Oracle 10gR2
    Apex 4.01

We have been running for about 3 years
    No significant changes
Have had slowness in the past attributed to bad SQL (Resolved those)
    NOW
Opening any apex page including 4500 takes a long time.
Oracle DBA is coming up with ideas if i run the SQL that he says is an issue outside of APEX sub second response.
    We have
Also appears the Host operating system was experiencing significant paging in this window.
Server has 12 Gig of memory, database GRHPRO is set up with using 9.8 Gig of that (7.8 SGA, 2 PGA).

    Hi
Any number of things could be going wrong, but you could check your shared_server parameter. If it is less than 5, then that might explain why things are so slow. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/install.310/e10496/db_install.htm#CHDGDHDE

  • Apex to Apex Database Export

    Hello
I've requested a new APEX workspace make a backup of an existing APEX database.
How can I copy the whole data base to the backup workspace.
The database has many tables and I could save a lot of time by exporting the whole data base at once instead of saving every single table as a spread sheet and importing it again.
    Regards
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
If you have direct (SQL*Net) access to your database it's easy to use export/import or datapump, check http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/exp_imp.htm
This enables you to copy over tables, data etc etc, depending on your requirements.

  • Apex on Sourceforge!

Just ran into Scott's recently blog entry about Apex on Sourceforge!
    http://spendolini.blogspot.com/2006/04/apex-open-source-applications.html
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/oracle-apex/
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=45326:107
Looks like this is Carl's baby. Way to go, Carl!
There seems to be 1 fully functional application presently, which is the OTN Forums application. There is a sandbox to play around with at
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=ODF
The Forums app is fantastic, has all the functionality of the OTN Forum and all source code is available.
    This is a great effort.
Carl, could you spend some time explaining how you see this progressing? What is your vision, what would you like this to grow into, how much community participation do you expect, etc.?
    Thanks again.

    Hi all,
Considering that with XE and APEX being free we are 'almost' an Open Source product so starting a coordinated open source project for applications seemed the next logical step.
A little background on this project, each developer on the APEX team has been tasked to build one or two applications this just happens to be the first one we have built. As each application gets done if there is significant interest in working on it we will release it on sourceforge for collaborative development instead of the Studio. The Studio has been great for getting applications out there but does leave a little to be desired for shared development, we are hoping that this new project changes that.
Over the next couple weeks as we get the details ironed out we will open up the project for development. We're going to be looking for developers, project administrators etc so if you want to join up get a sourceforge account and mail your sourceforge user name directly to me [email protected]
This is the first time that I've done something like this I'd absolutely like pointers, tips, criticisms etc on the process so it can be improved. It's not my project I've just probably had the most experience (in our group) dealing with sourceforge, plus everybody had to listen to me rant on and on about how cool it would be so I think they gave me the go ahead just to get me to quite down. Raj has been absolutely awesome in helping me out with this and saving me from myself by making sure I keep the scope to something a mere mortal can actually do, especially considering I still have a day job :) and special thanks to the crew in India that take a first stab at the forum application.
At the moment what we need most is feedback for features http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=558971 and any bugs http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=162870&atid=825493 that are found in the forum application.
    Thanks,

  • APEX Application behaviour in a RAC setup

    Hi
Caveat first: I'm pretty new to Oracle RAC and just looking into it as an option. We have an APEX application currently running in Oracle 11gR2 single node currently and are considering HA for this.
My question is: What would be the expected behaviour seen by a User of an APEX application, in the event of a node failure, when running with an OHS / RAC configuration? Will they get "transparent fail-over" and see nothing or will they see an error?
I appreciate I could post in the APEX forum, but feel that is probably more of a development forum and possibly someone here has had to look at things at this level.
I have read what I think may be the definitive reference for this:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/learnmore/apex-rac-wp-133532.pdf
but while it covers most of what I want I don't believe I have found an answer to my question
    This states:
"The Transparent Application Failover (TAF) feature of Oracle Net Services is a runtime failover for high-availability environments. It enables client applications to automatically reconnect to the database if the connection fails and, optionally, resume a SELECT statement that was in progress. The reconnection happens automatically from within the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) library. For applications that do insert, update or delete transactions, the application must trap the error when the failure occurs, rollback the transaction, and then resubmit. If the application is not written to be TAF aware, the session will get disconnected."
However (as I understand it) APEX runs in the database and would fail with the database, it isn't a typical "client application" connecting to Oracle via a TAF aware connection pool - it is essentially a large pl/sql package and TAF only covers SELECT statements not packages.
May be I'm over-reading this and it's simpler than that: APEX/Mod_plsql might just handle it?
    - APEX User/HTTP session state is stored in database APEX: Understanding session state which is available on other nodes
    - Mod_plsql in OHS can detect the error returning and reissues the request to good server and APEX on that instance can retrieve Users/HTTP state and process the request (APEX/RAC doc states mod_plsql can see an error from database and cleanup connection up and form a new connection, but not that it will retry the request for the client into other APEX/DB node).
I'm really just after a (transparent/non-transparent) statement based on experience, but an outline of how the components behave would be useful.
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

    Hi
Any chance of getting that link outside of Metalink? - I'm trying to get our customer support id, but no luck at present.
I'm aware that APEX can run with RAC (as per the link I posted) - I'm really after next level info around behaviour in that environment.
    Thanks
    Dave

  • Apex as Partner App using OID SSO

    Hi
I have setup Apex as a partner App in OAS.
    Registered the partner application.
Created a simple app that uses the builtin Apex auth as partner app using sso.
I get the OAS login appearing as expected for authentication however apon entering credentials successfully
The success url takes me to server:7777/sso/auth and displays page can not be found
My OAS Partner App success url registered is server:7778/dad/apex/wwv_flow_custom_auth_sso.process_success
    app schema registered details
    My lsnr token is HTML_DB:server:7778
other details cut and copied from OAS registration page.
lsnr login url is the oas sso login url is this correct?
Appears to work apart from the success url finding its way back to my app.
    TIA
    Richard.

    Hello all,
I'm having somewhat of a similar issue, but I think our setup might be making it a bit more complex.
    First question, simple one:
    1.
In my authentication method in my apex app, when I set my logout URL to http://{myhost}:{myport}/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_logout?p_done_url=http://www.google.com
It doesn't automatically redirect. I have to press the Return button on the OAS Single Sign-Off page to redirect to www.google.com
Is the redirect not automatic? Is there a way to make it automatic?
    2.
We have the issue where you login via SSO into an APEX application (APEX as a partner app). But the logout url does not truly log the user out. It redirects to our public page as we expect it to, but when they press the login button, it just goes straight back in (as if they were never logged out).
Now I know this has to do with the cookie, but here's the tricky part.
Our OAS server (that has Portal) is on a separate box. We've upgraded all our database servers, and they all have now a different domain than the OAS server. So now, OAS is in company1.com domain and our APEX apps are on company2.net domains.
Our DBA had setup us his own flavor of SSO logout (public synonym for all apex workspaces to use). He has an actually database procedure that used the owa_cookie package to look for the cookie and invalidate it on logout. With the new domains, his logic no longer works, because I believe the cookie is still in company1.com domain and the logout proceduce is running from the company2.net domain and cannot find the cookie (since it's not in it's domain).
After all that, I am thinking that since we can successfully login to SSO in company2.net domain via the OAS server, then we should also be able to logout of SSO successfully via the OAS server as well. Am I on the right track here? Is it possible with multiple domains?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • APEX application development with an existing data model

    Dear all,
We - as a company - are trying to build an application in ApEx with an existing data model. The idea is that the data model that has all sorts of TAPIs and business rules defined is going to be re-used in an ApEx environment. I am actually wondering whether this is possible, wise, feasible. When I am building some simple pages on one specific table, which has approx. 35 fields, sometimes the triggers around that table fail. Before I am actually going to dive in to try and sort these problems I am wondering whether this use of a data model in an ApEx environment is wise.
I mean, when you build an ApEx application there are usually no triggers and TAPIs available. My logic is that the ApEx application can look after validation and stuff.
Does anybody experienced have anything smart and useful to say about this. Any feedback is appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    -victorbax
    -leiderdorp, the netherlands

    Hey vik,
At my company we rarely use the standard APEX wizards because of multi-linguility (on data level) and error management issues.
We always create an API in PL/SQL and call the procedures for APEX making APEX the 'view' layer in a kind of model-view-controller architecture.
The main thing to keep in mind is maintainability, if you're working with an existing datamodel with an API that works it's probably best to just created forms and reports through APEX and then calling the appropriate pl/sql (packaged) procedure manually. We believe that this kind of architecture has the downside of being a little more work initially but it's much easier to maintain large projects through a self written API and take care of issues like error handling, logging and multi-linguility through a self written API.

  • APEX Listener with APEX 3.0 on 11gR2

    Yes, I am crazy.
We have many many APEX applications in APEX 3.0 running on a 10.2.0.4 database that needs desperately to be upgraded. As a test, I've set up a clean 11gR2 database and copied the production APEX database into it via datapump. I set up APEX Listener, as I don't have any OAS sitting around and the EPG doesn't seem to be supported for APEX 3.0... the Listener doesn't say one way or the other.
When trying to log in, I get the login page, but it tries to reference files such as apex_get_3_1.js while I only have files such as htmldb_get.js in my images directory in production. I noticed it is looking for what appears to be 3.1 files instead of 3.0 files... which concerns me.
The APEX listener appears to be more than just a Java PL/SQL gateway.
Is there a minimum version of APEX the APEX Listener supports?
    Interested in pointers!
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Yes, I am crazy. Why would that be? ;)
We have many many APEX applications in APEX 3.0 running on a 10.2.0.4 database that needs desperately to be upgraded. As a test, I've set up a clean 11gR2 database and copied the production APEX database into it via datapump. I set up APEX Listener, as I don't have any OAS sitting around and the EPG doesn't seem to be supported for APEX 3.0... the Listener doesn't say one way or the other.APEX 3.0 is supprted by EPG. See the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B32472_01/doc/install.300/b32468/post_inst.htm#CHDBEJDA]APEX 3.0 Installation Guide for details.
APEX Listener is capable of hosting APEX 3.0 as well, though APEX 3.0 wasn't supported anymore when APEX Listener was initially released. The current APEX release at that time was 4.0, so this would be the first version to be known as really stable, whereas you won't get any support for older releases anymore. From personal experience I know that there are now issues with APEX 3.1 and APEX Listener, so it'll probably also work with 3.0.
Concerning your database release, the minimum for APEX Listener is 10.2.0.3, so you're definetly safe on that part, though I'd recommend to upgrade as regular support for 10.2 databases ended.
When trying to log in, I get the login page, but it tries to reference files such as apex_get_3_1.js while I only have files such as htmldb_get.js in my images directory in production. I noticed it is looking for what appears to be 3.1 files instead of 3.0 files... which concerns me.This indicates that your APEX would actually be a 3.1 and you should update you images directory.
The APEX listener appears to be more than just a Java PL/SQL gateway. It is, but this has nothing to do with your 3.1 JS files, if this is why you stated this.
Is there a minimum version of APEX the APEX Listener supports? As mentioned above, 4.0 would be a safe approach, but 3.1 will definetly work, 3.0 probably will as well. I'd recommend you find out which APEX version is actually installed on your database before you consider any upgrade operations. Run the following query as privileged user:
    SELECT comp_name, version, status
      FROM dba_registry
    WHERE comp_id = 'APEX';-Udo

  • Unable to get checkbox working in Apex 3.2.1.00.10

We recently upgraded our production application running on apex to Apex 3.2.1.00.10. Everything works, except for the query that generates the check-box. This used to do so in the previous version 3, but does not work anymore, the code is the same...Any help is appreciated.

    wss_preferences_pkg.get_default_value ('WHOLESALER_LEVEL_TYPE'));

Not sure what happened, as I had tried this before too, but I did do the change below and was trying to debug the issue on my own and trying some options, and all of a sudden it started working...The only change that I did is below:
(SELECT app_user, app_session, hier_username, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL,
    ' ', HTMLDB_ITEM.checkbox (2, 1, 'onClick = "WssMasterCheck()"')
    FROM wss_uform_data

    UNION ALL
    (SELECT app_user, app_session, hier_username,
    HTMLDB_ITEM.hidden (11, hier_code_combination),
    HTMLDB_ITEM.hidden (12, hier_parent_level_number),
    HTMLDB_ITEM.hidden (13, hier_level_type), hier_level_number,
    hier_level_name,
    HTMLDB_ITEM.checkbox (3,
    hier_level_number,
DECODE (checked, '0', 'UNCHECKED', 'CHECKED') -- replaced NULL with 'UNCHECKED' is the change I made
    FROM wss_uform_data
    WHERE hier_level_type =
    wss_preferences_pkg.get_default_value ('WHOLESALER_LEVEL_TYPE'));

  • Apex Listener authentication.

I want to use Apex Listener for my pl/sql web application (now I use mod_plsql).
How can I implement authentication in order to protect pages from unauthorized use (like OWA_CUSTOM does in nod_plsql)?
    Tks
    Tullio

    Hi Udo and Tullio,
I am testing the listener against APEX 4.1. I would like to integrate the APEX applications in our SSO system. We are using SAML2, so I have configured a Weblogic Server for working as a Service Provider. In this server I have deployed the apex.war and I have registered the /apex/* pattern in my Identity Provider (Active Directory Federation Services). In this way, when I make a request of any of my APEX applications (apex/f?p=123:...), if I have not a valid session I am redirected to the Identity Provider Login page. This is working fine, more or less, I have to do more testing...
My question is, do you think that is this the best approach for securing the APEX applications? In order to everything works ok, I have to declare a security constraint in the web.xml...
    <security-constraint>
         <web-resource-collection>
              <web-resource-name>APEX Application Calls</web-resource-name>
              <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
              <http-method>GET</http-method>
              <http-method>POST</http-method>
         </web-resource-collection>
         <auth-constraint>
              <role-name>FederatedUsers</role-name>
         </auth-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
...and in the weblogic.xml I just map the FederatedUsers against a principal:
    <security-role-assignment>
         <role-name>FederatedUsers</role-name>
         <principal-name>users</principal-name>
    </security-role-assignment>
Also I have declared a filter for injecting some info in the headers request (needed for the APEX applications), but this is another story...
    Thanks in advance,
    Luis

  • APEX  Listener

We are planing to use APEX with APEX listener in production site for better security .
Under this circumstances, do we still need to install XMLDB .
If it is, could you please let me know what functionality of XMLDB is required when we are not in EPG mode.

    Hi there,
If you do not have XDB installed, then the APEX component will be invalid. Essentially, it is an unsupported installation. If you ever need to call Oracle Support, the first thing they'll ask you to do is make the component valid (by installing XDB).
XDB is used in a number of places in APEX - as an XMLTYPE in collections, parsing of Web Service results, XML data loading and unloading, XLIFF translation file parsing, probably a few more areas that I'm not recalling now.
    I hope this helps.

  • Clustered listener gets nothing back from APEX after upgrade to 4.1.1

    Hi,
I'm not sure if that subject is entirely accurate, but that appears to be the effect we are experiencing. We have had an SR open for this since April and seem to have the engineers stumped. Maybe someone on here has some insight that may help...
    Environment: Seven APEX instances
APEX 4.1.1 (problem started after upgrading from 4.0.x) running on an 11g RAC.
Listener version 1.1.3.243.11.40 running on WebLogic 10.3.2.0
Listeners are in 2x clusters on two different WebLogic domains spread over 4 different servers.
    Problem:
In two of the apex instances, a couple of days after upgrading to 4.1.1, the listeners starting returning blank, empty pages to the browser. We went through all the usual debugging steps (/i/ directory, connectivity, etc) and nothing fixed the problem. Finally the only thing that fixes the problem is to shut down one of the two clustered WL managed servers running the listeners, reducing the listener to a single instance per APEX instance. Like clockwork, if the second managed server is brought back up, within minutes-to-hours, the listener starts returning blank pages to the browser. Just a couple of days ago, a third apex instance and its listeners has started to manifest the problem and had to be half shut down. We are beginning to think there is a bug in APEX 4.1.1 that deadlocks the listener (or something) when it is clustered...
    Other data points:
The listenerAdmin and listenerStatus pages continue to work and report perfect health for all listeners involved.
The APEX management console (p=4550:1) is also affected by the problem, not just apps.
We ran the "apex_verify" script on all problem instances with no errors.
We have hard rebooted all affected servers, with no change in the problem.
This identical environment was running perfectly stable, clustered for many months on APEX 4.0 (and before).
The only thing that keeps our APEX apps running is to run the listeners single instance (un-clustered).
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide on this very annoying problem!

So it's somewhere within your WLS setup.Mmm... I won't discount anything, but I doubt it. If that were the case, how could this exact environment have managed to work flawlessly for the past 3 years on these clusters, the listener being upgraded several times through several versions of apex? Only directly after we upgraded apex (not the listener) to 4.1.1 did our troubles start. My suspicion is that there is a bug or a change in 4.1.1 (or maybe 4.1 as we applied 4.1.1 right after 4.1) that has manifested this problem for us.

Usage is fairly light in all cases.... which sounds like if there is some kind of load balancing algorithm different from round robin in your scenario.Ahh, I misinterpreted your question. You were asking if the load is balanced fairly between nodes on the same cluster. I took you to be asking if our separate, unrelated apex instances get the same use. So, the answer then is "yes" hits to a single listener WLS cluster do appear to be getting assigned equally to the different nodes, and the clusters are installed as per the documentation with round-robin scheduling.

Google gives a lot of hits ranging from memory issues to missing classes, and ... duplicate configuration parameters, e.g. app names, jdbc pool names, etc.... and of course, I'm not convinced that this has much to do with the problem at hand. It just happened to be in the log at around the time that someone noticed the problem happening in one case.
Could it be your APEX Listener is deployed multiple times on the same node using the same name?Good thought, but definitely no. We figured out that issue a couple of years ago, back when you had to hack the listener WAR file to make it use a non-temporary config.
Lastly, I just want to thank you again Udo for patiently digging into this. We now have three SR's open with Oracle on this (RAC team, APEX team, and WebLogic team) and we have gotten nowhere yet with any of them...

  • Call BI Publisher Report in APEX, based on R.T.F Template Layout.

Hi to all respected members of this forum.
Since 18th May (Saturday), I am trying to connect BI Publisher Reports with Oracle Application Express 4.2.2.
My APEX Version = APEX 4.2.2
Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise Edition (Trial) = 11.1.1.6.0
Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 32 Bit = 11.117.0.79
For this purpose what I did?
Firstly I downloaded Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise Edition 11.7 and when I started Installation I came to know that "R.C.U (Repository Creation Utility)" is required during installation and I don't have that so, left this idea.
Than I downloaded Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise Edition (Trial) from www.oracle.com and BI Publisher Desktop Edition for Templates because there is no facility in BI Publisher Trial Edition to design Report Templates. I have installed both successfully and created a report as per my requirement.
Now, I want to call that report in Oracle APEX but I am unable to do that.
I followed http://dgielis.blogspot.de/2007/12/call-bi-publisher-report-from-apex.html but the link which is shown in picture no: 03, is not available, so this didn't help me.
Then, I followed Oracle BI Publisher Blog https://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/entry/apex_users_why_not_integrate_w which discuss to call BI Publisher Report in APEX based on "Generic Report Layout". This done successfully but still I am unable to call BI Publisher Report .
Then I found this type of script
    http://localhost/xmlpserver/Guest/Reporting_Channel.xdo&id=FGFC&password=****&xt=Reporting_Channel&xf=pdf
to call BI Publisher Report in APEX but this also failed.
Please help me to understand that how to call "BI Publisher Report in APEX, based on R.T.F Template Layout.
    Thanks in Advance.

Are you trying to have multiple sql queries and have multiple sections displaying different data sets ? Or with one single query but display it in different ways in a single report ?
You can create one single query as Report Query in APEX and associate it with a BIP report layout. So you can achieve a Dashboard layout with the report query/layout.

  • APEX 4.2.1 Theme 26. Report template "Fixed headers" does not work in IE9

    Hi,
The goal is to scroll the region, but not column headers.
Works great on Chrome and Firefox, but on IE9, column headers scroll altogether with data.
I have tried it in APEX workspace at ORACLE (select order_item_id, order_id from demo_order_items - just to fill the region).
Is there a possibility to fix the Template's HTML/CSS?
Of course, I can make three regions to show the same thing (one region with report heading only, another with column headings only and the third on with column data only), but it seems complicated for such a simple task .
    Thank you

    Hi,
I would suggest to not mix different questions and a thread for each of them. Makes it easier for others to follow.
About your problem with the cascading LOVs, it appears that this is/was a bug in jQuery Mobile which we use under the hood. I was able to reproduce the problem with APEX 4.2.1 using jQM 1.2.0, but was not able to reproduce it with APEX 5.0 which will use jQM 1.3.0RC1 or higher. The problem occurs if a select list is empty.
    There are different workarounds available:
    1) set the attribute "HTML Form Element Attributes" of P1_CLOV_2 to data-native-menu="false"or
    2) set the attribute "Display Null Value" of P1_CLOV_2 to Yes and "Null Display Value" to - select - (or something similar). The "Value Required" = Yes will still guarantee that a value has to be picked. Having the extra null entry will guarantee that the select list always contains an entry, that seems to workaround the bug in jQuery Mobile.
I have filed bug 16355963 - jquery mobile: empty select list causes javascript error
to track that this is definitely fixed in APEX 5.0.
