App Builder not creating log file (CDK.EnableLog=True)

Hi All,
I am busy trying to get a small to medium size project to build in LV 8.6.1.
During the build I get all kinds of weird errors (1503, 1357), even with a trivial app that uses a typedef that has all the classes bundled together.
As mentioned, the app uses LVOOP, and also lots of similarly named VIs (in different library namespaces though), and I am 99% sure LV is struggling to resolve the same VI name issue.
In order to debug the build process I have tried inserting the CDK.EnableLog=True key into LabVIEW.ini, but no log file is produced during any of my builds (good or bad!). I have tried using TRUE, true, True for the key but none of these seem to work, when I look in %TEMP% there are files related to the build name_log.txt, but they contain only very basic information like the name and OS etc.
Any ideas how to get the build log file to appear???

Hi,
The build log process is shown here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2E19F4E72C29CF5C862570D2004FC604?OpenDocument
However this only shows detailed information when creating an installer, is this an executable that you are attempting to distribute when the errors mentioned appear or do the errors occur during the creation of just the executable? (This could be why you get a log with very little information)
Kind Regards,

  • Problem in creating log file on Ubuntu(Linux)

    hi
    I have developed a project in java. which creates log file for exception handling. This is working fine on Windows but When I run the jar file on ubuntu then it is not creating log file and throwing an error.
    Error Message="Permission Denied UnixFileSystem.java createFileExclusively()"
    Code is :
    strStartupPath = new java.io.File("").getAbsolutePath();
    DateFormat dateformat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd");
    Date date = new Date();
    String strFileName = strStartupPath + "\\" + dateformat.format(date) + ".log";
    File logFile = new File(strFileName);
    Your assistance will be appriciated.
    Sonal

    If you want to do this properly then you will have to make it OS specific. Various security systems on each platform will prevent you from freely writing your logfile unless you choose the correct location. The applications folder under MacOSX, for instance, requires Admin privileges. Under MacOSX and Windows, log files are typically stored in the Applications Data resp. /Library/Logs or ~/Library/Logs folder in MacOS X. In Unix and Linux you will typically use /var/log directory.
    I think your question is rather Java than Linux specific, but there is a lot of information available for free on the web.
    Perhaps the following example can help you to determine the OS:
    public static final class OsUtils
       private static String OS = null;
       public static String getOsName()
          if(OS == null) { OS = System.getProperty("os.name");
       public static boolean isWindows()
          return getOsName().startsWith("Windows");
       public static boolean isUnix() // and so on

    I installed the CC trial with an error window saying: Could not create the file '/Users/dranim/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.2/dummy'.  That was the first window.   Heres the second: After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup  I paid for the month subscription of 29.99. It claims it is downloading again?! Am I missing something here? Why is this process so complicated? I need to get this resolved asap and start working.

    I originally had Adobe Photoshop Extended, then upgraded to the Production Suite. I ran the Adobe Cleaner, and that uninstalled most Adobe products, including my existing Adobe install, and then I re-installed everything with the same error code. Since CS4 came with CS5, I've installed AE CS4, but would really like to upgrade because I'm new to Creative Suite, and not sure how CS4 integrates with CS5...CS4 After Effects installed perfectly. I do have a 64 bit system, and installing to an OCZ Vertex 2....every other suite installs perfectly, except AE. And I think that is the coolest program in the Suite. I thank you all so much for taking the time to help, I really want to get AECS5 running...I did try to install after doing the recommended items Adobe suggests for Exit Codes 6 and 7, including turning off many startups...
    I'm baffled....

  • Crystal Server 2013: How to troubleshoot "Can not create temp file---- Error code:-2147215357"

    We have a Java7 web app, which generate PDF report by calling Crystal Server 2013 SP4.
    The app is being deployed on many different servers. We sometimes got the error below when generating report:
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportSDKException: Can not create temp file---- Error code:-2147215357 [CRSDK00000615] Error code name:internal

    at com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.PrintOutputController.export(PrintOutputController.java:113)
    Problem is, this seems to be  a pretty generic exception. It could be caused by many different reasons.
    e.g. network connection problem, wrong DB login, wrong folder path, lack of folder access right, etc.
    Each time we could only guess what's wrong.
    We are running into it again, and this time everything seems correctly configured so far.
    We wonder if there are more info we can get to troubleshoot? For example, any log file of Crystal Server we should look into? Or does Crystal Server has debug mode which prints more details to tell us what goes wrong?

    Hi Henry,
    I believe you are using RAS SDKs to export the reports to PDF.
    Apply trace on RAS server and check what you find in RAS logs.
    Check whether you can see timeout error is RAS logs. Usually if connection is lost and the RAS server no more have the session to write to the temp directory, we do see these errors.
    Also, does the account that runs RAS have permissions to create a file in RAS's default temp directory? Are you getting any out of memory or out of disk space exceptions on App server or RAS, tracing RAS server is the way to move forward.
    Thanks,

    Yes

    How to configure tracing, and where are RAS logs? Is it configured in CMC --> Servers --> Crystal Report Services?

    Pretty sure yes.

    Not on App server.
    For RAS, that's the problem, I am not sure where to look.......

    Can you please let me know is there anything missing.

    Hi,
    We face the same problem with some BI4 reports.
    The same report works well with the "Crystal Reports Viewers API", as used in Infoview, but not with the "Report Application Server (RAS) API".
    This error appears after some time working on a report. If we reproduce the same report, but from zero, no problem.
    Hope it can help.

  • Could not create task file

    We are installing SAP R3 4.7 sr1 on Linux SuSE SLES9, 32/bit.
    Problem: During the installation of DI, phase Database Load (Pst Processing), installation stopped , and in the log file said
    Could not create task file tmp/sapinst_instdir/.../SAPREPOS.TSK
    Anyone with the similar problem? Solution?
    Best regards,
    Igor Kokai

    Hello:
    I do not know exactly what of the following elements contributed to fix the problem, but
    following is the list of changes we did in a 3rd try to install R/3 on Sun Solaris.
    1.  Get latest SAPINST.
    2.  Use a different installation directory, which is permitted by the use os a new SAPINST.  We used something outside /tmp, which is used by default by the SAPINST that comes with the CDs.
    3.  Delete the whole installation and start again, because by just using SAPINST in the middle of the installation, the problem was not fixed.
    4.  Change the SID from DEN to DE1.
    5.  There was an answer in sdn about the problem telling a linux user to use another environment variable that was for HP-UX, but since it was suggested for them, we took it, just in case. That was also done in the middle of the installation when the problem was happening, but did not fix the problem.
    6. We did not install the oracle patch 9.2.0.7 because the patch is the one that looks for a bunch of sun patches, that although we already had them, since the error we were getting was oracle related, it was decided not to do that for now.
    7.  Smile and go ahead without desperation.
    Regards,
    Juan

    I have configured log file for ias. Then restarted my Application server. It is giving Error message "Could not open log file ''logs/logVal.10817" in kas window. But logs files are there (created by the server itself) in the logs floder.
    I have configured logs for two systems.
    One system is noted all messages in the file
    Second system did not not any messages.
    But the files are existed in the logs folder in both the systems.
    I need to configure logs for ias,Kjs and KXS also.
    Please suggest me regarding this.
    thanks

    Hi,
    I'm not sure what operation are you trying to, can you please confirm that ? Please check what kind of messages did you try to log, is it only errors ? or all errors & warning or all messages ?. If it were only errors and warnings, then there is a possibility that the server did not encounter any of this, due to which the log file can be empty.

  • Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software

    Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
    When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
    checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
    From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
    is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
    I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
    I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
    I will appreciate your assistance.

  • Why do I get error 'Could not create temporary file. No space left on device" when I use the Engine Installation Wizard in TestStand?

    The process gets to the NIVISA\SETUP.INI step, then I get this error.
    I've tried with installing the MDAC and not, and it happens both times.
    The drive I'm trying to create the file to has 7.4GB open on it, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
    Thank you,
    Dave Neumann

    Dave,
    This is documented in the KnowledBase 2D6A63VW titled: "Error: Could Not Create Temporary File, No Space Left on Device".
    As RByrd suggested, you might need to free up some memory space in your System Temp directory, OR you may change the location of your System Temp directory to one with more space (such as the directory where you want the TestStand Engine files to be saved). The Knowledbase shows how to do this step by step. This is its URL:

    We converted from RH7 to RH10 earlier this year, and our application uses the XML files in whxdata to connect help buttons to topics.  It seems that RH10 is not creating these XML files, which is breaking this functionality.
    Some searching indicates that these files should be created when the primary WebHelp layout is being built.  I can't find any settings anywhere that indicates whether or not they should be created.
    Is this a consequence of the conversion, or does RH10 not create these files anymore?

    Hi,
    We have updated the script to recursively convert all RH10/11 js inside whxdata and resource folder in to XML format. The steps to use the script is as follows:
    2)      - Double click on the script.
    3)      -  Provide path of whxdata folder of RH10/11 output. All the js files will be converted to XML and will be placed in My Document\RoboHelp_XML. Now copy all the XML thus created and place it inside                   whxdata folder of RH10/11 output. If any message to override file is thrown then select not to override. Also, Keep all original js files intact.
    4)      - Provide path of resource folder of RH10/11 output. Resource js will be converted to XML and will be placed in My Document\RoboHelp_XML. Copy this XML and place it inside resource folder of RH11      output. If any message to override file is thrown then select not to override. Keep all original js files intact.

    Hello,
    To generate the log report, /VIRSA/ZVFATBAK program is scheduled on hourly basis but some time report doesn't get generated and if we see the background job then it shows sucessfully finished.
    If we see the maually the log report for FFID then below error message is displayed.
    " BACKGROUND JOB WAS NOT SCHEDULED/LOG FILE NOT YET GENERATED"
    Can anyone guide me to solve the issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Prashant Dubey

    Hi,
    once chk the status of the job by selecting that and check job status(cltr+shift_f12)
    since it was periodically scheduled job there will be a RELEASED job after every active job..
    so try to copy that into another job using copy option and give some new name which u have to remember...
    the moment u copy u can find the same copied job in SCHEDULED status...
    from here, try to run it again on hourly basis....
    After copying the job u can unschedule the old released job to scheduled otherwise 2 will run at a time...

  • After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy

    I have just downloaded the trial After Effects CC. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on my Macbook Pro.
    When I try to launch After Effects, this message appears:
    "After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy'"
    I have followed the advice from other posts on this issue regarding resetting all of the permissions in the Adobe folder in my library to read and write , but it doesn't change anything. I still get the same message when I try to launch the program. Moreover, there is no After Effects folder in my Adobe folder, even though it's clearly in my Applications folder.
    I also uninstalled After Effects and tried to reinstall it, but to no avail.
    I sure would like to give it a try, as I was planning on purchasing it, but this is just one more issue in a long irritating line of issues that have arisen since trying to download it from CC.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I am having this problem and this response does not make sense. I made the "Preferences" ,"Adobe" & "After Effects" folder along with the 10.0,11.0,13.0,13.2 folders all read/write. Can't seem to find an answer.

  • Age of Mythology cannot create log file

    I am trying to set up the game "Age of Mythology" on my son's user account. I am the administrator, and it works fine in my account, but when I try to run it from his account, I get the "cannot create log file" error message.
    I've tried doing an install under his user name, but still get this message.
    An thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Boris

    This sounds like a permissions issue. You probably need to enable read and write access to the folder where the log file is created. From your administrator account, Get info on that folder > expand Ownership and Permissions > expand Details > change Others to Read and Write.
