App server is hanging

Hi,
My iAS 6.0 SP3 hangs: processes are visible in ps ef but there iAS is not responding until I restart it. All hosted application stop answering. This is getting frequent when the number of users increases.
Do you suspect it is because of the file descriptors?
Please advise.

Check the logs under: OH/opmn/logs/*BI_For*
If that does not help, try the following in the midtier.
1. opmnctl stopall
2. opmnctl start
3. opmnctl status ( Everything should be down)
If BI_For is not down check the logs above.
4. opmnctl startproc process-type=OC4J_BI_Forms
and check the logs.

  • PSConfig Hangs on App Server

    Greetings,
I have a scenario where psconfig hangs on a server and need to determine why.
    BACKGROUND:
This is a fairly small farm containing 3 SharePoint servers:
    Web Front-end Server - Server 03
Search Server - Server 02 (This is dedicated to search services)
App Server - Server 01 (this is where Central Administration runs)
All servers and services have been running.
On Saturday, I installed the March 10, 2015 CU on all 3 servers without any issues.
Afterwards, I was able to successfully run "psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force" on servers 03 and 02 without any issues.
On the App Server 01, I started psconfig (from PowerShell) and it got to the upgrade stage then hung.  I allowed it to run for hours then finally interrupted it.
    PSCDiagnostics:
Looking at the PSCDiagnostics log file, I noticed, starting at line 4636, I started seeing warning (WRN) entries.

    Hi Trevor,
I've actually tried this a number of times as I remember this same type of issue with 2010.  Right now I have the AD team looking in to making sure the
Microsoft SharePoint Products container exists (to track installations) and it can be written.  I'm assuming all of that is okay because psconfig succeeded on the other 2 servers in the farm.
    Thank you again!

Can someone tell me what might be the cause of this exception?

What class is the InitialContext.lookup() happening in? Is that getting executed in the servlet class or a standalone client?

  • App Server stalls every 2-3 deployments of ADF BC - Anyone seen/fixed this?

    Hello,
I am running Jdev 10.1.3.2 and the App Server is 10.1.3.
We have a separate OC4J container that we have created on the App Server for the ADF BC applications. This is because we were having library conflicts with other non ADF BC applications and Oracle advised us to create a seperate container.
I can usually deploy to the server 2-3 times in this OC4J container and then the application server hangs up during deployment and must be restarted. The applications outside of our container still run. I can deploy the non ADF BC projects to the original HOME container over and over with no problems.
Does anyone know of any possible reason for this? The ADF Runtime Libraries are installed in our specific container. Is there some other installation that we might be missing that could be causing this?
Every time it hangs up, I have to contact and wait for someone to restart the App server. It has been frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Cindy

  • Web Services with Sun App Server

We are load testing a simple web service running in SJSAS 8.0 Standard. With 1 or 2 users concurrent it seems OK, but once we move up to 5 concurrent users calling the WS, the domain in SJSAS crashes.
Does anyone have experience or information regarding the app server and load with web services? Are there some config options that we can tweak? Are there any numbers out there about how many simultaneous connections the server can handle?
A final note, things seem fine if we are just serving a simple web page from the server, its only when we try to call a WS that we run into these performance issues.
    Thanks.

Are you connecting to any external resource using JNDI by any chance? If you're using Unix, check the number of file descriptors being opened on the Sun App server. "new dirContext(env)" creates OS file descriptors each time it's invoked (calling the web service for example).
    use
    $ps -ax
get the process number of sjas and try issuing a:
    lsof -p <sjas_process_number> |wc -l
and keep invoking the web service. If this number keeps increasing then you've an "fd" leak (perhaps not closing the dirContext). Linux for example has a default max file limit of 1024 under "root" user and when depleted, sjas will hang.
    Could this be the problem?
    Cheers

  • Strange Gateway Error with one APP Server (WSAETIMEDOUT)

    Hello Everyone,
We are experiencing a strange gateway timeout issue on one application server in our SAP environment.  This started happening after we applied a series of Microsoft patches and updated the SAP kernals from 179 (DB 172) to 185 (DB 182).
From this App server we are seeing all kinds of gateway errors, the following is a sample from the dev_rd file from the server in question:

I have done alot of searching and I have tried the following things:
    1) Checked the services file of this machine, they line up with all other systems
    2) Attempted to telnet to other App servers on 3200, 3300, 3600 with no success
    3) tried to connect via SM59 to another App server with no success
    4) Attempted to do all of these things in reverse from the another app server with the same results.
This is only happening with one app server in our landscape and this app server has no issues connecting to the CI.
Any ideas on where I can look further?

    Hi,
on sappe1exp5  try the following command in a dos prompt:
    telnet sappe1exp4 sapgw00
this should also time out i.e. hang for a certain amount of time (~50 seconds) and then terminate with error.
It simply means that the IP address 10.10.0.21 is not reachable from your client PC.
Maybe you changed some IP addresses during patches. Usually there is an RFC destination that is not functioning properly.
    Best regards

    Hi,
I haven't come across such an issue before but I would like to help. This could be probably because, the downloaded file may be corrupted due to come reasons. I would recomend you to give a try after downloading it once again. Please let me know your thoughts on the same.

Update config testsuite on 4.0.0_fixes branch to force kill the app server before running any tests when the app server is Tomcat. The regression runs were hanging on this branch when going to run the config suite because the Tomcat server isn't shutting down cleanly at the end of the MXUnit run. I believe this is an issue with the version of ActiveMQ we are using. Since I don't think we want to update ActiveMQ on this branch force killing the Tomcat server will workaround the problem.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried this on another machine running the same version of Blackboard. It works fine.
Only difference is that the machine that has the JVM crash is running on Fujitsu PrimePower and the OS is Solaris 9 (but twigged for PrimePower).
The one where it runs and starts up successfully is running on SunFire (OS is Solaris 10).
I am wondering if there is a problem with the JVM loading required libraries because of the OS being different versions.
Any leads on this is welcomed. Thank you.

  • Can't install app server 8 on XP - PLEASE HELP

Hi. I am new to J2EE programming and am busy going through the J2EE tutorial and am trying to install sun java app server 8 on my PC which is using windows XP.
I suspect that some kind of "firewall" is blocking a port that is needed for the install as the installation just freezes after i specify that I wish to install to location X. I have literally waited up to an hour and nothing happens so the problem is definetely not that I am being impatient. Also i checked my file system and the installer never even gets as far as creating the location X. It does get as far as launching the Java Runtime enviroment etc. but just "hangs" when I specify to install to C:\Sun\AppServer\ (default - I have also tried different locations and hard drives to no avail.)
I did manage to install the same app server 8 on Win 2000 but have since formatted that particular hard drive and installed XP Service Pack 2 (I also uninstalled Service Pack 2 as I was worried that the firewall in Service Pack 2 was stopping the install). I did also disable all my other antivirus / firewall programs.
I have also read the other forums and have tried the install from the command line (after renaming to .zip and unzipping the installation file). It also stops at the same point on the command line.
PLEASE HELP me because the only other thing i can think of is to install Win 2000 again; install the app server and then upgrade to XP. I really only want to do this as a last resort as it is very time consuming to re-install all my programs again!!!! I have even tried installing other versions and the bundles and the NetBeans 3.6 + J2EE platform bundle but get the same problem (after it installs the NetBeans IDE).
There are no errors that I can see as the GUI just freezes (I can't click on "next"; "cancel" etc.) I can only click on the X (Close button) and the program then says that it is not responding and from there I can quit.
    THANK YOU
    Ian

Please check both potential causes described in this thread since your situation sounds the same:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=136&threadID=564300
(first issue would be productregistry lock file, second one GUI problem).
Since you are saying that GUI freezes, second one sounds more likely - so try running the installation in command line mode as described in the thread.

Exception caught in AmWebPolicyManager initializer: Unable to load IAmWebPolicy: com.sun.identity.agents.policy.AmWebPolicy
         at com.sun.identity.agents.policy.AmWebPolicyManager.<clinit>(AmWebPolicyManager.java:135)
    Thanks,
    Steve Maring

    You were absolutely correct
I've resolved this issue - the problem was caused by two things:
    1. There is a new version of a library called libxml2.so that I had to get from Sun (they provided version 2.6.7)
    2. My web server with the agent on it is on a seperate box from the identity server. These two servers were out of sync in terms of their system time (ie, the solaris box with the agent / web server was about 8 minutes ahead of the solaris box with the identity server)
Once both of these things were fixed (the time issue most importantly), the web server would not hang anymore.

  • Unable to Register Sun App Server 9 in Netbeans 5.5

    Hi,
I used to work on netbeans 5.5 and bundled sun app server 9. Everything was going fine. Today in the middle of a deployment in app server through netbeans, my system got hanged. So I killed the java.exe process.
Now when I again attempted to open netbeans it showed me an error that some modules in sun app server could not be found and so sun app server could not be loaded. I tried registering sun app server again in netbeans but the server name was not even coming in the drop down list of app servers.
Impatiently I uninstalled the bundled app server + netbeans through the uninstaller, and again installed the server and netbeans in a different directory. But again the same problem is coming and it is not showing the sun app server. Netbeans is opening and Sun App Server 9 is also working in isolated mode but I cant seem to find the sun app server still in the server list of netbeans.
Kindly help. I am just too frustrated.

    Hi,
I have installed J2EE 5 SDK on windows XP. When I installed NetBeans 5.5.1 and tried to register it with Application Server, it got registered automatically. I had to uninstall both due to some reasons, now when I installed both j2ee and netbeans again, i see D:/Sun/AppServer folder empty and not able to register NetBeans 5.5.1 with application server. I tried again and again by reintalling but AppServer folder remains empty and not able to register. Any help for this issue??????????

  • Cannot start Infra and App Server after reboot

I have installed iAS 10.1.2.0.2. on Solaris 2.9 -infra and appserver on same box. After installation I was able to configure Discoverer etc. The machine was rebooted recently and I cannot get the infrastructure and app server to start. opmnctl startall just hangs.

I think borkur is probably right.
We have our midtiers on different machines from the infra, but nonetheless, you could use the same sort of startup script.
What I do is go into a wget wait loop on the mid-tiers before trying to opmnctl start them:
    #! /bin/bash
    # script waitfordas
    DAS_RESPONDING=`wget -q -O - http://infra.mycompany.com:7777/oiddas > /dev/null; echo $?`
echo Waiting for DAS to be up on infra.mycompany.com...
    while [ "$DAS_RESPONDING" -eq 1 ]
    do
    sleep 10
echo Waiting for DAS to be up on infra.mycompany.com...
    DAS_RESPONDING=`wget -q -O - http://infra.mycompany.com:7777/oiddas > /dev/null; echo $?`
    done
    echo DAS responded.
Then I call this in my startup script:
    #! /bin/bash
    # oracleas Start/Stop the Oracle Application Server
    # chkconfig: 2345 99 10
    # description: Starts and stops the Oracle Application Server
    exec 2>/tmp/oracleas.err 1>/tmp/oracleas.log

    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$ORA_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall"
    RETVAL=$?
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/emctl stop iasconsole"
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$EM_HOME/bin/emctl stop agent"
    return $RETVAL
    restart() {
    stop
    start &
    case "$1" in
    start)
    start &
    stop)
    stop
    restart)
    restart
    echo $"Usage: $0 {start|stop|restart}"
    exit 1

  • Using Office Web Apps Server with SharePoint Foundation 2013

I want to know whether I can configure Office Web Apps server to edit Excel documents on a SharePoint Foundation 2013 site.
I came across a TechNet article that states that "When used together with SharePoint Server 2013, Office Web Apps Server provides updated versions of Word Web App, Excel Web App, PowerPoint Web App, and OneNote Web App".
However, later in the same article, it states "If your organization licenses Office 2013 through a Volume Licensing program, you can enable Office Web Apps editing for SharePoint 2013 on-premises" (without mentioning Foundation or Server).

    Hi Lemesnil,
The Office Web App server should support the Edit licenses for SharePoin Foundation 2013, Office Web App is free to
download, you can also try installing and configuring in a test environment, see more from the below article applied to SharePoint Foundation 2013.
