App Store update buttons broken

iOS 7.0.2 iPhone 5S
Go to App Store > Updates tab.  Tapping "update" opens the app instead of triggering an update.  Seems I have to manually search for the App and update it from the search results page.  Tried logging out / logging in again.  Looks like a bug.

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.2
hellooooooooo
i don't know what's a more frustrating bug: that update is broken or Apple's support forums are broken
If you want help you need to ask a question, not just tell people you think you found a bug.

  • After upgrading to 10.9.5, the App Store "Update" button stopped working.

After upgrading from 10.9.4 to 10.9.5 tonight, the App Store "Update" button seems to have stopped working.  The App Store says I have one update available (Xcode version 6.0.1), but when I click "Update," the button turns white for a few seconds, and then it turns back to gray without doing anything.  I've tried the same steps after restarting my computer twice.
    A screen shot is below.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • App Store Update Button Not Working

On my iPad 3, recently I have had trouble accessing my updates.  When I open the App Store, the button at the bottom that says UPDATES indicates that I have 5 but when I touch the UPDATES button, nothing happens.  It does not move to the screen to indicate what the update are.  Each of the other buttons at the bottom: FEATURED, TOP CHARTS, GENIUS, AND PURCHASED. all perform properly.  UPDATES does not move off the home screen,  ideas?

If you look there are quite literally hundreds of threads on this topic over the past few days. It's an issue with APple's servers.
You can either wait it out, or if you go into the purchased tab you can download the updates manually or if you sync with a computer you can use iTunes on your computer to download the updates and then sync them onto your iPad.

  • ITunes app store update button not working

I'm using iTunes 11 on a windows 7 pc, and the problem is that the for apps with update available, the app page in the store is shown to be "downloaded" and not clickable, whereas in iTunes 10 the button says "update". I have a quite large app library with 1000+ apps and the checking for updates button does not always give all the available updates. And it's not latency issues because apps that have updates months before still show up in the store page as downloaded. Anyone else have this issue/bug? I really rely on the update button on the iTunes store page a lot, so any help wound be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure about the layout on PC but try this.
    (1) Starting at home screen (click the house icon top, middle). (2) Top right, click on Library button. (3) Next screen, top left, click the icon that says Music.  It will pull up a menu where you can select Apps (also movies, tv, etc).
At the bottom right you should see your update button for your apps and telling you the count of those.
    Good luck

  • App store updates broken regarless of device or iOS version for days now?

Your Apple App store updates are just plain broken.(period)! It doesn't matter the device or the iOS release.
I have various devices, ipod Touch(s) several versions, iPhones, Ipads several versions and it makes no different which iOS or device;  some are at 3.1, some are at 5.1 and some are at iOS6.  All show app updates, NONE seem to get conected or work by staying connected.
I have done hard resets on all devices(more than once),  and if you delete and APP  you can NOT stay connected to re-download the APP;  update times out right after it starts to update and then quits...  It doesn't matter if it is a single update or Update ALL  and it doesn't matter which APP.
you might can get one to update if you like try 20 times.....  this has been going on for at least 4 days now.  Apple PLEASE get this FIXED or provide a work around via support announcement / notes.....  You can't download then either as it times out so this is costing you Apple money.
    Thank you...

  • Maverics - App Store Updates broken - Certificate issue

    Hi All,
My system - MacBook Pro Mid 2012 15"
After update to Maverics from Lion i cannot use App Store Updates, so now I don't now have my system any updates or not.
The issue is in "wrong" certificate as App Store Updates talkes to me (message in Russian):
Сертификат для данного сервера недействителен. Возможно, Вы подключаетесь к серверу, имитирующему «swscan.apple.com», что может подвергнуть риску конфиденциальность Вашей информации.
(it's told me that it cannot confirm «swscan.apple.com» certificate)
I'm using my local ISP and there's no problems with Apple site and other App store things - I'm able to install programs from it.
I've checked that certificate right now - it's signed with Verisign and seems to be Ok, my safari displays it as green.
How can I recieve updates for my Mac ?

    I have the same trouble..
By the way, is this a part of the problem, or it is a normal situation?:

  • Mac App Store update: right Apple ID but wrong user account

My Mac App Store updates get associated to the wrong user account but the correct Apple ID.
I live in Germany and have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, both purchased under Snow Leopard and now running Lion 10.7.2. Just after upgrading to Lion I "purchased" a free App (BibleReader 5.0.0). This morning I logged into my wife's user account on the MacBook Pro, and the App Store icon flagged an update. I switched to my user account and was surprised to see that the update wasn't flagged there. By listing my purchases I did suceed in finding an "update" button for BibleReader, but pressing it resulted in a (German) error message whch translates as "An update is available for another account. Please log in with the account you used to purchase the App". But that is what I had just done.
Intrigued I went back to my wife's user account. By logging onto the Mac App Store with my Apple ID from my wife's user account I did manage to update the app. Later at work I got the same error message on the iMac. But this time the only other user account on the machine belongs to Computing Services: I don't have their password and I ought not to use admin rights to gain access to their account. So I can't perform the upgrade on the iMac.
All family iTunes / App Store purchases are via my main Apple ID. My wife's user account on the MacBook Pro only exists so that I can manually synchronise our iCloud address books (she has an iPad).
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
All the applications you purchase on the App Store are registered to your Apple ID, so you have to use your Apple ID to update them, or you have to purchase those applications again using the Apple ID they are using on that computer, so they will be able to update them

  • After iOS 8.3 update, apps stuck on OPEN on App Store Updates page

Did the iOS 8.3 update by backing up my iPad Mini in iTunes then doing a "Restore". I did that with the last update and all went fine. This time, it appears to have gone well except that I had some apps that had updates pending after the Restore. After doing the updates, when I go to the App Store "Updates" page, I still have 4 of my apps listed there with the button option set to OPEN. On the upper right corner it says "Updated August 18, 2015". Yesterday when I did the update was Saturday April 25, 2015 - go figure. When I tap them they all open but they never leave the page. One post said to wait until an app had a valid update pending and see what happens after I update it, so I'll need to wait to see if that works. I have searched this community and tried all suggestions: changed the date set to manual and push it out over 30 days. That did not work. Did a reset. No luck. I even did another "Restore" thinking maybe that would resolve it, but they came right back. The puzzling thing is that in all of my searching, I have found apps stuck in differing states of "waiting" or "downloading", but none of them have mentioned seeing the apps with the OPEN option visible. I did delete the apps and that made them go away, but I'd prefer to keep them. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks in advance...slog

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • App store updates not working

After updating to ios 7, and setting my app store updates to update automatically, and after they all did update, the long list of apps won't go away. They just sit there with an "open" button next to each one. I tried force quitting the app store, I tried signing out of the app store, I tried shutting down my phone, but the list just sits there. Any thoughts about this?

I have the same identical issue. Have you found any fix yet?

  • App Store update is not working. Just see a white screen

Does anyone know why my iPad App Store update has stopped working?

Read this on iLounge posted by ahMEmon
Go into Settings > General > International > Language and choose British English, then hit the Done button. The screen will go black with a comment about Language Settings. Be Patient, especially if you have a lot of apps. Let it run it's course and Then open the App Store again. Voila! Upgrade list is back. And it stuck when i changed back to plain English. He doesn't know why. I don't either. But I am now a happy camper. Worked on my 3rd gen iPad and iPad Mini.
    Hope it works for you!

  • How can I fix the problem in my iPhone 4s where the app store updates screen is blank?

I have a problem with the apps store updates in my iPhone 4S.  It doesn't display the updates, it's just a blank white screen.  I tried hardstarting my phone a number of times, holding the home button at startup when the apple logo appears until it dissapears but the problem still persists.  Can anyone show me how to resolve this problem?
    Many thanks!

It is perfectly accurate.. it is simply not showing 50 degrees because you have it set to Celcius.
Change it to Farenheit and it will display what you are accustomed to.

  • Can I help someone solve the App Store update problem

If you can't update your apps in the App Store update link, you can update your apps by clicking on the purchase icon and see which apps need to be updated and click on the app that says update and it will install.

    Adding to above^
You can also update the applications in iTunes on the comptuer then sync the changes to the devices.
Just go to the apps section in itunes where is shows all the backed up/imported applications.  Then you should see the update apps button on the lower right.

  • Wildly erratic App Store update flagging

Apart from the permissions-scrambling (I think) problem, there is also another weirdness manifesting:
"X" number of apps appear as badging the App Store icon; I update one, then wait for it to finish updating; I then go back to the App Store icon, to find that "Y" number of updates has vanished from the badge/update page. The "missing" updates usually reappear after a while.
The above is a bit different from another problem that has been reported, i.e., of apps being updated via the iPhone, then going back to the App Store on the iPhone to find the updates still sitting there, or reappearing suddenly several updates later (I update apps one at a time so that I can read the authors' update texts, if they've supplied them).
I am not only fed up with the erratic behaviour of the App Store, I am fed up with the time I've wasted, and my time that has been soaked up bleating and whining about the App Store problems here. Not to mention the "apps not working after an update" permissions issue. And even more ticked off because of the data I've lost because the iTunes backup facility appears to be broken as well (as of 7.7.1, at least).
Time for me to get a life, methinks.
Also time for Apple to get some fixes out into the wild ASAP.

Well, well. I was just about to post to this to say that the iPhone 2.0.1 software/firmware update had fixed things. It did for about 6 hours, but after another App Store update, the AS flags started playing up after an update, and then the downloaded apps and the music became unusable again.
This is really, really not funny. I spent hours last night installing the update and repopulating the phone with apps and musics, and I'm back to square 1. Yet again.
Has anyone else had the similar experience of updating the phone to 2.0.1 and have the apps die again?
I dare not ask if anyone has a fix, other than being able to hack the iPhone file system by hand and manually change the permissions via a telnet session running on a Mac (or Linux?) box. And doing this, if possible should probably do nasty things to the warranty.
I'm now going to mothball the iPhone until there's a known robust fix to these problems, and go back to my old Sony Ericsson (and hope that the iPhone's SIM card will work in the SE). I've wasted far too much time on this to continue. Bad show, Apple. -10/10 and no elephant stamp and gold star for you.
