How can i move the itunes appdata from music folder to another folder?

I want to get rid of all the database files in my music folder as other applications scan this folder for new music and it takes them forever to scan the itunes folder in the music folder because of all the folders for artwork etc.
i thought that is what the %username%\appdata folder is for?!
the help documents on the apple page just show me how to move my music, which is in the right place, but not the database xml and covers...

A better way to get AppData location?

To conform better with Vista I have taken to retrieving the "AppData" location in the registry in order to determine a safe place for my app to write files. The code I use is like this:
err = RegReadString (REGKEY_HKCU, "Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Shell Folders", "AppData", appdatapath, PATHLEN, &keysize);
By and large, this works but I have had a few reports that it does not - where the AppData registry entry is corrupt or invalid. How that arises I have no idea.
But, I'm intrigued by a key in that location on my Vista machine. The key is "!Do not use this registry key" and the value is "Use the SHGetFolderPath or SHGetKnownFolderPath function instead". Looks like a pretty good clue!
Can anyone tell me whether these SDK functions will solve my problem, or how they might differ from simply reading the registry string? Does anyone here use them?

I'm not really sure why that registry location works some times but not others, but Microsoft definitely wants us to use the function and not the registry.
Note that SHGetKnownFolderPath is too new to be included in the version of the Windows SDK that comes with CVI, but you can definitely use SHGetFolderPath which works just as well, in Vista and in XP/2000:

SHGetFolderPath (0, CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA, NULL, SHGFP_TYPE_CURRENT, path);
(you'll have to add shell32.lib to your CVI project).
CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA gives you the common, "all users" folder. If you want the per-user folder, you can use CSIDL_APPDATA instead.

Using %appdata% in a batch file with remote computers

Hello, I'm trying to copy a file from our server to other computers over the network (it's a customized Outlook Toolbar). If I type the paths in manually as $C\users\<user.name>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\outlook it copies over fine. What I would like
to know, is how to make it so I only need to re-enter the hostname instead of typing everyone's user accounts, if possible.
The current command is nothing fancy;
xCOPY "\\<NetworkLocation>\outcmd.dat" "\\<hostname>\%appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook\" /Y
but when I try to run this from my computer, it uses MY %appdata% instead of using the hostname's appdata. In other words instead of it copying to say, "10.0.0.100\DesiredUser\Appdata\etc." it goes to "10.0.0.100\MY
USER NAME THAT DOESN'T EXIST\appdata\etc." and gets "invalid drive specified".
So in short, is there anything I can add above the command to make the %appdata% look to the hostname that is typed right before it? I'm obviously doing this wrong but tried A LOT of research and couldn't find anything to help.

About this command, the %appdata% is referred to current user account, that's why it will find your account on client computer.
As an alternative, I suggest you use GPO to deploy file for each user to implement this:
Group Policy allows you to deploy files and create folders on computers you are managing without having to visit those PCs manually. You can do this either in Computer Configuration or User Configuration, but we are going to be using User Configuration.
To begin, open Group Policy Editor on your server, and navigate to User Configuration\Preferences\Files, right click on Files and choose New\File.
Import the file and the location where you want to put this file in New file properties window, and deploy out.

Safe to delete content from the Temp folder under AppData?

Hi everyone,
Is it safe to delete the contents from the Temp folder (C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Temp) in the SharePoint 2013 web front end servers?
For some reason I see around 30 GB of temp files. Came across
this blog post but in my case ULS logs are still being generated in the D drive. Not sure how those Temp files are being created. Application servers seem to be fine.
Tried -
changing the ULS log path from D to C and back to D drive (as per the above blog post... no luck)
tried restarting the SP tracing service
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am trying to transfer an old profile into Windows 7, but the AppData folder does not show up under my name folder in USERS. How can I find it?

When I go to Help & Troubleshooting & click Open Containing Folder I get a Windows Explorer window that shows the file path including Used-Edward-AppData, etc. But when I click on the little triangle to the right of Edward the drop down menu does not include AppData and if I just go into Windows Explorer and Users-Edward, there is no AppData folder. So I cannot overwrite the profile file with the saved profile info from my earlier laptop. The folder symbol next to Edward has a lock on it but I don't know what that means or how to unlock it.

%AppData% is the name of an environment variable.
On XP that variable points to C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\
"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders, use %APPDATA% in the File name field

C:\users\owwner\AppData\local\apple\applesoftwareupdate\itunes64.msi can not be found

itunes on my boys computer got corrupt. I believe it was when I tried updating. Anyhow, I have downloaded teh current itunes file from apple and when I install it a window comes up that says it can not find C;\users\owner\appdata\local\apple\applesoftwareupdate\itunes64.msi
I have done a search all over the computer and that file does not exist. I tried repairing itunes in control panel and it comes up with the same message. I tried deleting itunes in control panel and the same thing.
I tried deleting all files that contained itunes or apple in my compter because I thought there might be some hidden file that was saying there was an older version still installed and keeping if from installing right.
Any ideas how to get itunes back on this computer? It will not load.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Error loading C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\HpWebNotifier\SyncNetOffice.dll

Everytime I start up my computer I get a pop-up that states: 'Error loading C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\HpWebNotifier\SyncNetOffice.dll'
My computer and printer work fine but this message is annoying. I can't figure out what the problem is. I am wondering if it is an issue from an old printer that I used to be connected to that I've already uninstalled. Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this issue?

What operating system is the computer?
What model computer are you using?
Try this click on start and then run and type msconfig and hit enter.
(if your computer doesn't have a run type msconfig in the search box and click on the application)
Go to the startup tab and see if you can see a reference to that location. Uncheck it and reboot your computer.

With that particular variety of 1606 (it's a 1606 error message even though the 1606 error message number isn't returned by the iTunes installer), the following Microsoft document is worth a try:

Since I experienced that problem I also noticed that all my bookmarks which I had copied into the Windows Internet Explorer have also disappeared. The easiest way is to use Sync.
You can find it in Tools / Options.
You'll always have settins, bookmarks, saved passwords, history synced between you computers (and Android devices).

Apple moved some drivers for 64-bit now to where they should have been.
Quicktime also use to place files outside the norm.
One of the reasons I recommend when it comes to Apple:
Wait for the ".1" and always use the uninstaller first and then install.
That means you may want manual standalone installer instead - and that way you have 10.4.1 in case you need to later downgrade.

In Windows 8.1, why does Thunderbird have profiles in username\appdata\local and in username\appdata\roaming?

I searched online to find out how to find my address book and found an article that said to look in Users\username\appdata\local\thunderbird. I did not find it there, so I did more searching and found it in Users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird. Do I need the Users\username\appdata\local\thunderbird directory, or is It a leftover from a previous version of Thunderbird? I would like to delete it if I don't need it.

Background info:
When Thunderbird program is installed it puts it here:
* C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\
or if using windows 64bit, it will be here:
* C:\Program Files(x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\
when you run Thunderbird, it will create a default profile and this is where all your mail accounts, address books, filters, passwords etc are stored. Use for backup purposes.
* C:\Users\Windows user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Profile name\
Windows also creates some cache folders and files, which is stored here:
* C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Thunderbird
These files and folders do not contain any emails etc and are not required for backup purposes.
You can clear the cache from Thunderbird.
Tools > clear Recent history.
Windows uses the AppData\Local.
