Append action to a Lookup Multivalued Field  as Default when Merging ?

Hello Experts
I have the following Issue.
We are using the MDM Data Manager to do some cleansing (Matching Mode of the Data Manager) and we have a Field thas is defined as "Lookup [Flat]" and "Multivalued: Yes".
The issue is the following. When merging two records we want that the values of the Lookup Multivalued Field are appended  always. To append the values we have to right-click the especific cell and select "append"
Here is an example:
BEFORE
Item A |  Item B
1;2 | 3;4
AFTER
Item A
1;2;3;4
So, my question is... Is there any way to set the APPEND action as Default when we double click that cell? Is getting very anyoing and not efficient to always be doing right-click - Append.

Hi Mariano,
As rightly mentioned by the above posts that,the appending of the values in the merged records cannot be automated.The reason being :
- The merge functionality itself in MDM under the MDM Data manager is mostly suppose to be a manual process as Merging of master records cannot be done by anyone,not even just by the master data expert.
- Merging two duplicate master data in to one is a function to be undertaken only under the supervision and permission of a business expert.
- MDM may identify two similar records as Duplicates as per the set rules and strategy ,but it does not have an inteligence of itself to confirm the same that the two records are duplicates in the real sense or not.
- Besides sometimes even known duplicates may not be required to be merged but just identified.
- So in which ever case,the merging will be manual and will require human intervention.
- Besides MDM Tool does not support this function of automating the appending functionlity.

    And when clicking ADD ROWS button in table region it showing error like " ROW 1 MATERIAL - SELECT A VALID VALUE"

  • Workaround on all the limitations of Qualified Lookups, Multivalued Tuples.

    Dear Experts,
    As we all know, there are lots of limitations on Qualified Lookups in MDM 5.5 and also in MDM 7.1....
    1) Can't write Assignments...
    2) Failed validation won't specify which qualified link has failed.
    3) Compare records won't show link wise comparison of qualified links.
    4) Can't start qualified link level workflows.
    5) Role level constraints not applicable for Qualified lookup and tables referencing from QL directly or indirectly.
    6) Qualified link level check-in check-out operations are not possible.
    7) Qualified link level unique constraints are not possible (this becomes pain if links get duplicated by mistake)
    8) Duplication of QL link is not allowed in data manager (for copying Qualifier values in new Qualified link).
    9) Tuple is replacement for qualified lookup, but its more restrictive than QL (validation are not allowed on multivalued tuple).
    10) ....... many more (which might have discovered by you all)
    What if we make all the qualified lookups as main table and link those table to actual main table using Lookup [ Main] field type?
    Well it will restrict the data analysis objective which is one of goal of Master Data Management...
    But this will solve all the problems and limitations due to Qualified Lookup or Multivalued Tuple!
    I think its feasible and technically possible (But only in MDM 7.1 onward)
    How is the IDEA !!!

    Well out of 9 pain points I listed above...
    Some of them may be fixed in future releases...
    But there are some points which (I feel) may not be on the feature list of future releases like....

    (all these points are applicable for tuples also)
    Above points can be ignored at the time of fresh implementation
    But its become blocker in new scenarios which are taken-up after go-live! (i.e expansion of already live repository)
    Most of the people in MDM might not be aware of that import works on a single main table at a time.

  • Problem Importing XML Issue with FLAT MultiValued Field.

    I'm importing parts to my repository with a number of fields. This import is used to both UPDATE existing parts as well as add new parts to the catalogs. We want the fields in the import to be updated. There is one flat MultiValued Field that we need to hold just the value that we're adding in the XML. This should overwrite the others. I have tried many different configurations. I want to know how to make this change happen without overwriting fields that are no contained in the XML.

    Map the multivalued field with the source field, then right click on the maultivalued field at destination side, right click on it and set Multi-Valued Update = Replace . By default this property is set to Append which simply append the values from the source field.

  • Error while deleting a Lookup Taxonomy field

    I have created a main table Products and there is a field Manufacturer which is a Lookup Taxonomy field. When I try to delete the field there comes an error stating 'The field cannot be deleted until references to it in Family Hierarchy are removed'. But in data manager there exists no data for that table. Even in the other mode I have checked whether there exists any relationships. There seems to be nothing, still I can't able to delete that field. Please help!!!

    Hi Thamizharasi,
    I feel you have defined a Family table in your repository. This family table is referring to this taxonomy field. To resolve this, try below steps:
    1. Open MDM Console and login to the repository.
    2. Once connected to the repository, click on the repository name, Search for the "Families" table in the Tables Sub-window on right hand side, and check the family field.
    3. If the family field is manufacturer Lookup taxonomy field, then delete the family table.
    4. Delete the lookup taxonomy field from the main table.
    Hope this will solve your issue. Revert with the result..

  • Selecting items in a list from a multivalue field

    I have an edit page that includes a menu form element that
    allows multiple selections. It inserts all the IDs from a table
    that it's got from a recordset as a string into field named
    EventType separated by commas ("10000,10002,10004"). So far so
    good.
    I have a dynamic menu behaviour on the edit page too but when
    I reload it none of the options in the list are selected. It will
    mark an item in the menu as selected when there's only one value,
    presumably because when there are multiples the behaviour is trying
    to match a string of "10000,10002,10004" to the values in the the
    list , which are separate values:

    I am using Access 2013 and I have the following VBA code, 
    strSQL = "INSERT INTO Master SELECT * from Master WHERE ID = 1"
     DoCmd.RunSQL (strSQL)
    when the SQL statement is run, I got this error.
    SELECT * cannot be used in an INSERT INTO query when the source or destination table contains a multivalued field
    Any suggestion on how to get around this?

    Rather than modelling the many-to-many relationship type by means of a multi-valued field, do so by the conventional means of modelling the relationship type by a table which resolves it into two one-to-many relationship types.  You give no indication
    of what is being modelled here, so let's assume a generic model where there is a many-to-many relationship type between Masters and Slaves, for which you'd have the following tables:
    Masters
    ....MasterID  (PK)
    ....Master
    Slaves
    ....SlaveID  (PK)
    ....Slave
    and to model the relationship type:
    SlaveMastership
    ....SlaveID  (FK)
    ....MasterID  (FK)
    The primary key of the last is a composite one of the two foreign keys SlaveID and MasterID.
    You appear to be trying to insert duplicates of a subset of rows from the same table.  With the above structure, to do this you would firstly have to insert rows into the referenced table Masters for all columns bar the key, which, presuming this to be
    an autonumber column, would be assigned new values automatically.  To map these new rows to the same rows in Slaves as the original subset you would then need to insert rows into SlaveMastership with the same SlaveID values as those in Slaves referenced
    by those rows in Slavemastership which referenced the keys of the original subset of rows from Masters, and the MasterID values of the rows inserted in the first insert operation.  This would require joins to be made between the original and the new subsets
    of rows in two instances of Masters on other columns which constitute a candidate key of Masters, so that the rows from SlaveMastership can be identified.

    In this little demo file non-normalized data from Excel is decomposed into a set of normalized tables.  Unlike your situation this does not involve duplication of rows into the same table, but the methodology for the insertion of rows into a table which
    models a many-to-many relationship type is broadly the same.
    The fact that you have this requirement to duplicate a subset of rows into the same table, however, does make me wonder about the validity of the underlying logical model.  I think it would help us if you could describe in detail just what in real world
    terms is being modelled by this table, and the purpose of the insert operation which you are attempting.

    In MDM 7.1 SP03, 
    1) We have two main tables MTable1 and MTable2 in repository
    2) One Taxonomy table Taxo1
    3) In MTable1, Created a Lookup[Taxonomy] field for Taxo1 table
    4) In MTable2, not able to create Lookup[Taxonomy] field for Taxo1
    table.
    Why is it not allowed to use Lookup[Taxonomy] in multiple main tables?

    Thats a limitation .Multiple Main tables cannnot share  the same Taxonomy table.

  • Multivalued fields in Access 2010

    I thought that it would be a good idea to use the multivalued field in an application for users to use since they just click the little boxes and the item is placed in the field.  For the most part it works straight forward, except for one problem.
    There is huge difference between the stored values and displayed ones.  I am trying to perform this task now: If the list is established for a group of people, I would love to be able to copy all of a multivalued field into a blank field programatically,
    saving the user the time to rebuild the list for every single person.  So far, I have found almost every inconceivable means of not being able to do it.  At this point I could use some advice.  Thank you for experience and your help.

    Unless you have a real need to use a multi-valued field, i.e. your database is interfacing with SharePoint in the very limited context in which such a field is necessary, don't do so.  Instead model the many-to-many relationship type in the conventional
    way by a third table which resolves it into two one-to-many relationship types.

    This little demo file illustrates various ways of interfacing with e data, but I'd strongly recommend the use of a conventional form/subform.  In this add a new student named June Magenta say, but don't select any courses for her in the subform. 
    Now move back to Joanna Black's record and with the form still open execute the following query:
    INSERT INTO StudentCourses(StudentID, CourseID)
    SELECT S2.StudentID, StudentCourses.CourseID
    FROM Students AS S1 INNER JOIN StudentCourses
    ON S1.StudentID = StudentCourses.StudentID, Students As S2
    WHERE S1.FirstName = Forms!frmStudents_3!FirstName
    AND S1.LastName = Forms!frmStudents_3!LastName
    AND S2.FirstName = "June" AND S2.Lastname = "Magenta";
    After executing the query move back to June Magenta's record and you'll fund that Joanna Black's courses have also been assigned to June Magenta.  In this example it assigns the courses to only one student, but you could easily do so for multiple students
    by amending the final line of the query so that the restriction was on the basis which returned multiple students from the S2 instance of the Students table.

    to update custom fields. It is working perfectly well for text types. However i can't seem to figure out how to setup the value of lookup custom field type. I got to the point where i check if the value i want to set is in the entries of the lookup table.
    But noway to figure how to set this value.

  • Lookup expression is not working when I am using with in the rectangle box in SSRS

    I have two datasets with common member is ProgramID.
    I have followed the below steps,
    1. Added one table  (2x2) and mapped this table to dataset1. After that I have removed top row.                                               
    That means I am maintaing only  data row.
    2. Added group to the table (ProgramID). Now the programid is sitting at cell#(1,1) and  cell#(1,2) is blank
    3. I have verified the report with preview and able to see the data for my all programs. I have 5 programs
    4. my plan is adding chart and matrix reports to cell# (1,2). If I am adding chart/matrix to the cell#(1,2) then we can't contol the  cell alignments in terms of height x width.
     To resolve that problem, I have added one rectangle control to the cell#(1,2) then I have added my chart and matrix report
    5. After completing the report, I have verified with preview and able to see the reports (chart/matrix) for all my 5 programs by page wise (note: I have provided page break before for my rectangle)
    6. Till this point, I have no issues
    7. Now, I have added one more row under the group. so, we have our main table (2x2). Becuase of programId group we can only see 3 cells in total table  (cell# (1,1) =ProgramId  cell#(1,2)=chart and matix reports under rectangle box; cell#(2,1)=already
    merged with ProgramID group; cell#(2,2)= planned to add one more rectanlge and add two reports (chart and matrix)
    8. Now, i have added rectangle to cell#(2,2) then added chart and matrix reports within the rectangle.
    9. cell#(2,2) reports are needs to extract the data from dataset-2. Here we have common member is ProgramID (ds-1,ds-2)
    10. First I have tested for matrix report by adding lookup expression
          Matrix report (2x2)
         row-1: Cell(1,1)= Gender report heading ; cell(1,2)=Month  (column group)
         Note: month is also common member in both the datasets. 
         row-2: cell(2,1)--  =Lookup(Programid.value, Programid.value,Gender.value,"Dataset2")  (Gender data is Male and Female)
                    Cell(2,2) -- empty for now
     11. I have tried to preview the report and able to see the report without any issues and below are observations
            main Table (2 x2)
             Cell# (1,1)  = ProgramID --Returning all 5 programs properly
             Cell# (1,2)  = Dataset1 related report (chart and matrix reports under rectangle) -- able to see without any issues
             Cell#(2,1)  = We already know this is merged cell. i.e menas ProgramID dispalying
              Cell#(2,2)= Only Male record is dispalying in the matrix report which is under rectanlge (here we have applied Lookup expression.
    Note: male is the first record from the database and Female is the second record
    Also, observed that Cell#(2,2) matrix report is unable to display the gender count information when I have provided count value expression in the cell(2,2) within the matrix and the expression I have uses is
      = sum(Lookup(ProgramId.value,ProgramId.value,GenderCOunt.value,"Dataset2"))
    Please ask me if I am unable to explain or lengthy explain.
    Point : Why the lookup expression is giving the first record only (in case of gender #(male, female) and why it is unable to give the gendercount.  Gendercount cell is totally blank.
    Please help me.

    I have tested the issue step by step by following you description, while the first issue works well in my local environment. Based on my research, this can be caused by the lookup expression or it indeed return Male value based on the logic. If you use the
    expression below, it will indeed only return the Male record. So please try to double-check the record in the two datasets and the expression in your environment:
    =lookup(first(Fields!ProgramID.Value,"DataSet1"),Fields!ProgramID.Value,Fields!Gender.Value,"DataSet2")
    As to the second issue, please try to use the following expression:
    =Count(Lookup(fields!ProgramID.value,fields!ProgramID.value,fields!Gender.value,"DataSet2"))
    Besides, if this issue still exist, in order to trouble shoot this issue more efficiently, could you please post both the .rdl  file with all the size properties to us by the following E-mail address?  It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

    Also, our resulting pdf documents aren't searchable.  How can we generate pdf documents that are searchable?  I may want to search for a part value or name within the body of these pdf documents, but currently can't do that...very inconvenient.

    Not totally sure about the search issue. A lot depends on how you created the PDF and what is in the datasheets you attached (like are they graphics?). The doc portion should be searchable as long as you used print to the Adobe PDF printer or PDF Maker. For your use, it may be that the print is adequate. However, the result should be searchable (unless maybe you had a form with filled in fields and created the PDF with PDF Maker. I think the form data may be retained in form fields and the fields are not searchable. In that case, a print might be a better procedure. (it would help to know the versions of WORD and Acrobat as well as the exact process you used to create the PDF.)
    If the appended data sheets do not change, then you might try opening the original PDF and then using Replace Pages to replace the file created from the DOC file.

    The add annotations field shows as not allowed in the security options. So how do I send this form back with the changes??

    I think you you need to click 'save' first, then it is saved to acrobat, where it will prompt to send.
