Append string using c tag

Hi,
I've a code like this
<td>
<c:set var="author" value="${blogEntry.authorDetails}"/>     <c:out value="${author.firstName}"/>
     <c:out value="${author.lastName}"/>
</td>
the problem is both first name and last name are strings,word wrapping is not done perfectly.
For instance if it is,
"James Gosling"
then it may come like ,
James Gosli
ng
so is it possible to append both the string using jstl?
Thanks,
mms.

I think it's caused by the cell column width being too small, not related to the behaviors of jstl tags. You can try it outside of a <td>, or increase the column width.

  • How to get the values of an Array using JSP Tags

    Hey guys,
    I need some help. I've splited a String using
    fn:split(String, delim) where String = "1,2,3,4" and delim is ,
    This method returns an Array of splited Strings. how do i get the values from this array using jsp tags. I don't wanna put java code to achive that.
    Any help would be highly appreciated
    Thanks

    The JSTL forEach tag.
    In fact if all you want to do is iterate over the comma separated list, the forEach tag supports that without having to use the split function.
    <c:set var="list" value="1,2,3,4"/>
    <c:forEach var="num" items="${list}">
      <c:out value="${num}"/>
    </c:forEach>The c:forTokens method will let you do this with delimiters other than a comma, but the forEach tag works well just with the comma-delimited string.

         Thanks

    I have done exactly that in one of my applications.
    I have extracted the image from the database as a byte array, and displayed it using a servlet.
    Here is the method in the servlet which does the displaying:
    (since I'm writing one byte at a time, it's probably not terribly efficient but it works)
         private void sendImage(byte[] bytes, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException {
              ServletOutputStream sout = response.getOutputStream();
              for(int n = 0; n < bytes.length; n++) {
                   sout.write(bytes[n]);
              sout.flush();
              sout.close();
         }Then in my JSP, I use this:
    <img src="/path-to-servlet/image.jpg"/>
    The name of the image to display is in the URL as well as the path to the servlet. The servlet will therefore need to extract the image name from the url and call the database.

  • How to get parameter and add it to hyperlink using struts tag?

    Hi everyone:
    There is a.jsp pass a parameter to b.jsp.How to get the parameter in b.jsp using struts Tag?I also want to add the parameter to a hyperlink in b.jsp.For example in b.jsp <html:link forward=.....>cxxxx</html:link>.How to add the parameter(get from a.jsp) to cXXXX in b.jsp?

    Try this:
    Copy A Request Parameter - You can create a new bean containing the value of a parameter included in this request. If no parameter of the specified name was included, a request time exception will be thrown - therefore, it is common to nest the use of this tag inside a <logic:present parameter="xxx"> tag to ensure that the parameter was really included. If there is the possibility that more than one parameter of the same name was included, specify the "multiple" attribute (and the resulting value bean will be an array of String values, instead of a single String).
    <bean:parameter id="name" name="name"/>
    And then just use <html:link> with paramId. No java code at all.

  • Using Display tag library - sorting and Paging

    I have generated a grid using this tag library which has number of in built features. Out of which on is grid sorting and pagination. But this sorts the grid in one page only, not complete grid. Does any one have solution for this? I am trying to get the source code which does this. If any one has solution then please help me..
    Thanks!

    In this case you have to do external sorting insted of defalutsorting provided by dispaly Tag Library. find sample code for External Sorting.
    Follow the Steps:
    <display:table name="testList" {color:#ff0000}sort="external"{color} defaultsort="1" id="empTable">
    <display:column property="id" title="ID" sortable="true" {color:#ff0000}sortName="id"{color} />
    <display:column property="firstName" sortable="true" title="First Name" />
    <display:column property="lastName" sortable="true" title="Last Name" />
    <display:column property="address" sortable="true" title="Email Address"/>
    </display:table>
    To determine the request parameter name for column(like ID) sorting you can do :
    String studenid = request.getParameter((new ParamEncoder("empTable")).encodeParameterName(TableTagParameters.PARAMETER_SORT))
    fire a query in DAO Class using request parameter to get sorted list and map a resultset to table.

  • Why we use attribute tag ?

    In xml
    <attribute name="name" value="12"/>
    Actually wat does it mean??
    Need help..

    I am not sure whether you are asking about a generic xml file.
    Here I am giving the way to use attribute tag in a repository definition file.
    Use 1:
    <property name="MyProperty" column-name="my_column" property-type="org.package.src.MyPropertyDescriptor" display-name-resource="My Property">
         <attribute name="MyClass" bean="/com/package/module/MyComponent"/>
    </property>
    Here, in this case,a custom property descriptor (MyPropertyDescriptor) is used.
    Inside the MyPropertyDescriptor, this attribute's name and value can be used as the arguments for setValue(String pAttributeName, Object pValue).
    Use 2:
    Setting default value for specific properties of type timestamp. The below code sets the value to the current time by default.
    <property name="creation_dt" data-type="timestamp" column-name="creation_dt">
    <attribute name="useNowForDefault" value="true"/>
    </property>
    Use 3:
    The well-known attribute 'useCodeForValue' for enumerated properties.
    <property name="relToPolicyHolder" data-type="enumerated" column-name="policy_holder_rltn_ind">
    <attribute name="useCodeForValue" value="false"/>
         <option code="0" value="self"/>
         <option code="1" value="spouse"/>
         <option code="2" value="dependent"/>
    </property>
    Use 4:
    To make a property non-editable through ACC, set 'uiwritable' attribute to false.
    <property name="vendorNbr" column-name="vendor_nbr" data-type="string" display-name-resource="Vendor Number">
         <attribute name="uiwritable" value="false" />
    </property>

  • Please Use Code Tags

    There was a time in these forums where posters were flamed mercilessly for not using code tags. Now it seems that OP's almost NEVER use them. It makes me nuts. I wonder though why the flaming has stopped.
    1) Is everyone too flamed out thanks to AU_UK?
    2) Have the new posters beaten down the standards?
    Just ranting, sorry. Please please please use code tags.
    please?

    For those who miss the URL tag, try the following. It works in IE, but I don't know about any other browsers. I found this on the internet a while back.
    Make a favorite (on your Links bar is a good place), with the following as the URL (all in one string, of course--get rid of any spaces that the forum might insert):
    javascript:if(frames.length>0){alert('Frames!')}else{ulBV3pQy=document.selection.createRange().text;if(ulBV3pQy!=''){location.href=ulBV3pQy.replace(/\042/g,'').replace(/\047/g,'')}else{alert('Select%20text%20on%20page%20like:\n%20%20%20http://www.domain.com...')}}(Sorry for the long line--code tags should eliminate the extraneous spaces, right?)
    Then, if you see a link in a page, such as any of the following links that OPs need to remember:
    http://www.google.com
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/
    Select (highlight) the link, click the "Favorite" that you made, and the link will be opened in the current window. No need to copy and paste--just highlight and click the favorite.
    I have found this shortcut to be quite useful.

    One problem is that you don't understand escaping. If you re-read what you posted you'll see that what you say you get, and what you say you want, are identical. That's because you didn't escape one of the two properly. So your first step should be to find the section about escaping in Chapter 1 of your XML book and read it carefully. Figure out what you should have done here (yes, the same rules apply).
    However, to attempt to answer what I think your question is: if you have a String which contains markup, and you want to convert that String to XML elements, then you have to feed the String into an XML parser.
