Apple certified lightning cable?

I am looking for a non-apple but apple certified lightning cable. Can I find a list of certified cables online? Also came across cables made by Belkin, iComsta, and Miracase sold here (so I don't have to order online), but I am wondering if the cables work fine?

There's a problem buying Apple-certified and even "genuine" Apple products from less than honest dealers. A device can say it is Apple compatible, or even say it is Made by Apple, and still be counterfeit. And many of these are actively dangerous, to both you and to your phone. For example, take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-b9k-0KfE.
You don't have to watch the whole thing if you don't want to; just the first few seconds demonstrate the problem. SPOILER ALERT: BOTH of the devices pictured are counterfeit, not just the obvious counterfeit on the right. The one that looks like and says it is Apple (on the left) is a fake also.

  • Does anyone know if there is a 5 meter apple certified lighting cable available?

Or 3 meters or longer? Links would be great! Thanks!!

  • Third party lightning cable sold on apple online store not supported

Since I upgraded my iphone 5s to ios 8.1.1, my belkin lighning cable became an unsupported accessory
however with my ipad air still sticking with ios 8.0.2, the cable seems fine
been trying to contact with apple online service but they just won't stop telling me to restore my iphone.
did anyone come across this problem with any third party "MADE FOR IPHONE" certified lightning cables?

If Apple Support tell you to restore ,why do you think you know better ???
Restoring will likely resolve a corruption of the iOS as I expect you have used over the air to update previously
However if you know better ....................go forth

  • Genuine Apple Lightning Cable not recognized...

I'm using an iPad mini, running iOS 7.0.6, and plugged directly into AC power with an Apple 2 meter charging cable, purchased @ the Apple Store. I am being driven crazy by the intermittent beeping of the iPad mini until it finally tells me the accessory is not supported.  Fortunately, the charging continues, but all this beeping and booping and the failure of the iPad to recognize a legitimate accessory is nutso. I have cleaned the connector more than once, yet the problem continues. Sometimes if I turn the connector around it will stop, other times not.
As I never used any Apple device prior to the release of iOS 7, I can't comment on timing, but I have my suspicions that this is a software issue.

Yes, I should have mentioned that; the Apple 2m lightning cable is plugged into the Apple square charger that came with the iPad mini. That is plugged directly into AC power.
I updated iOS to 7.1 this week; the problem continues.

  • Are lightning cables from eBay any good?

Hey folks, I am currently using an iPhone 5 and I am looking to purchase two more lightning cables for it - one for my car and the other for my office at work.
Are lightining cables from eBay good enough? They're running for $3-4 a pop so it would save me some money. Anyone have any experience with these cables from eBay?
I am well aware of the fact that iOS 7 will display an annoying popup everytime I connect this "non-apple certified" lightining cable but I think I can live with that.
    Thanks in advance!

Geez, relax man I get what you're saying but I can't justify spending $50+ for two charging cables. Charging cables......I mean common. Plus, I don't understand the need for those "identification chips" in these lightning cables. Seems like a waste of money to me and we the consumers needlessly end up paying more for something we probably don't even need. I mean, I don't see these identification chips in micro-usb charging cables, nor did Apple have them in their old 30-pin cables. Apple can be really controlling sometimes lol.
If you're going to say if you don't like thier policies maybe you shouldn't by an Apple product, save it.

  • Lightning cable won't work with any computers, but will work with wall chargers

My iPod Touch (5th Gen)'s cable is having some issues. I can not connect to any computers with it (I've tried two different iMacs, my Macbook Pro, and a car USB port that is used to play music through the car speakers). It used to work intermittently for a while, but now it doesn't work in any situation with computers. However, it will work with various power sources that have a USB port on them, but don't transfer data (A USB battery and a wall adaptor). This is using the AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FA4Y66U/) I've had this issue with both iOS 8 and iOS 7, even after completely wiping the iPod.

    Try a genuine Apple cable

  • 5 of my lightning cables stopped working; they are after market cables

All of a sudden I get an error message that my cable is not certified amnd may not work reliably with this phone. I have 5 cables that do not work and 2 that do. I have been using these cables for a while with no problem.  Is this an Apple issue? Did they just decide to do this? If so, I am no longer an Apple customer.

Lightning cables need a chip in them to make them work properly.  If these are not made properly, they could damage your iPhone.  FOr this reason, Apple lienses the making of those cables, and if they detect an unlicensed  cable, they feel it's better to not allow it to be used than to allow it to damage your expensive hardware.  I appreiate that they are protecting my iPhone from some company who doesn't care if it gets damaged by their crappy cable.
I like an expression I saw recently "If your head is only worth $10, tehn wear a $10 helmet when you ride your motorcycle."  My iPhone is worth more than a $1.99 cheap knock-off cable to me, so I will use the proper cable to charge it, as I have done since I got it on Sept 21, 2012.

  • Are Any Third Party Lightning Cables Approved by Apple So They Work?

Over the past year Apple made some iOS change that causes most third party Lightning cables to generate the error message "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably".  However, Apple has never clarified whether ANY third-party cables are approved and will work.
Even most third party cables sold by the US primary cellphone carrier stores no longer work.
Some third-party cables work for a partial recharge, however, won't charge the iPhone if it automatically shuts down due to low battery power.
    QUESTION
Does anyone know if any third-party Lightning cables are approved by Apple and will charger phones after an automatic low battery shutdown?

  • MY IPAD MINI IS NOT DETECTING GENUINE APPLE LIGHTNING CABLES

Can someone help me with my ipad mini not detecting any genuine lightning cables?
if I charge using the genuine cable, no sign would appear that the ipad has detected a charger. I tested it on 3 lightning cables that worked on other ipads but not on mine. but if i use my after market cable(non-genuine) it will detect but will say "the cable or accessory is not certified and may not work... " I understand that apple is blocking uncertified cables. my ipad can only be charged if i turn it off.
    IOS version: 7.1.2

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if it charges after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT1665 Recently read on a deal site forum page that you can only use Apple lightning cables to charge iPads running iOS 7 or higher. Is that the case or will any 8-pin to USB cable work? Thx in advance for any helpful replies.

Recently read on a deal site forum page that you can only use Apple lightning cables to charge iPad Air or iPad Mini Retina running iOS 7 or higher. Is that the case or will any 8-pin to USB cable work? Thx in advance for any helpful replies.

Due to a lot of bad press that Apple was getting due to burnt chargers, shocked users (the electrical kind...), etc., due to the lousy third party El Cheapo brand generics, as of iOS 7 the cable must be Apple-certified before the iGadget deigns to use it for charging purposes. Unfortunately (for Apple) the old traditional USB to 30-pin cable is just that, a straight piece of wire, and can't be validated by the iGadget. But lo & behold, the new gear uses the new Lightning cable, which contains an embedded chip that CAN be validated and lousy imitations disabled from use.

  • Touch5 @ ios7 no longer works w/ Apple's Lightning-(nor 30 pin)-to-RCA-cable adapter BUT older ios5 Touch and ios7 ipads2

I'm a high school teacher and routinely project TED talk/podcast & other videos from my assorted Apple devices: Touch3 (ios 5), Touch5 (ios7) and iPads2&3 (ios7). I've successfully used Apple's 30pin-to-RCA, and 30pin-to-VGA, and 30-pin-to-Lightning-to-RCA cables/adapters. However, at ios7 upgrade to my Touch 5, projecting no longer works, at all, no sound, no video to projector. My 2 ipads (2 & 3 both at ios 7.0.2 continue to work fine as does my older Touch3 with ios 5.1.1. Prior to ios 7 upgrade to my Touch5, it also worked fine to my projector.
Please forward this info to Apple Education Tech Support folks for their eval and, hopefully, a specific fix to re-enable Touch5 usage of the Apple projector adapter cables. Thank you.

    Have you tried:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync with BMW car's COMBOX

My recently purchased Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync works very well with the PC and TV. I bought it to connect to my BMW car's COMBOX interface which is designed to connect to Apple products.
It doesn't even power up and BMW fails to recognize iPod, same combox works well with the original usb sync cable which came with the iPod but that doesn't have AV out so can't play music and video to the head unit. I think this could be due to low power coming from the car's USB, am I right to think this? If yes what options have I got to fix this? Can I supply additional power to iPod?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm afraid that's to be expected in most cases, you need to turn your TV speakers off.

  • Will Apple replace a faulty lightning cable that was purchased separate from iPhone?

I bought an iPhone 5 along with a spare lightning cable from Apple's website in September. Since then BOTH lightning cables have failed, and there is NO sign of physical damage or abuse on either one. I called AppleCare, and they agreed to replace the one that came with the iPhone, but the senior advisor I spoke with rudely told me the one that was bought "separately" for $19 cannot be replaced, nor refund issued. I thought that it would be covered under manufacture's warranty. I've also heard rumours that if you take a faulty accessory to a genius bar they will gladly swap it out for a new one. Only problem is I don't live near an Apple Store. I was thinking about calling AppleCare back and see if I don't have better luck with a different rep. Any thoughts on this?

    From Apple's warranty page.
Your Apple-branded hardware product is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase ("Warranty Period"). If a defect arises during the Warranty Period, Apple, at its option and to the extent permitted by law will (1) repair the product at no charge using new parts or parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, (2) exchange the product with a functionally equivalent product that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or (3) refund the original purchase price. This warranty excludes damage resulting from abuse, accident, modifications or other causes that are not defects in materials and workmanship.
If you choose to call applecare, they can arrange to ship you a replacement, but you will have to agree to a "hold" on a credit card until the defective cable is received back to the factory.

  • Kink Apple lightning cable can harm your iPhone?

My iPhone 5 died, logic board dead. I went to the store and was told by an Apple technician that kink(ed) cables (creases and lumps in the ends of charging cables) can insert negative charge into the phone and eventually harm your device. I tried to look into it but I can't find information on the internet. Can anyone confirm that this is true? that creases towards the ends of the lightning cable can harm your device.
    Thanks in advance.

Depending on the level of damage to the cable, yes it very well could.
