Apple laptop + wireless bluetooth mouse carrying together in my backpack

I use a macbook with a wireless mighty mouse and often have to carry them around in my backpack. The problem is some times the mouse wakes up the macbook from sleep. This is not healthy for the hard drive and I don't want to turn off my mouse by sliding the turnoff button or turn off the laptop. Therefore, my question is: what would be the safest way to carry my macbook (in sleep) + mouse?. Should I really turn off my mouse? Because, I am pretty sure after some time the switch off mechanism is gonna be screwed.
Thanks

Thanks much for your solution. I figured it out. However, its not really the best choice for me. Since, I hook this up to an external monitor at work and at home. I have a key board at home to wake the macbook running in calm shell. However, at work I use the built in keyboard with out the built in display. I used the mouse to wake up the macbook so that I have my 24' external monitor as the primary display with the keyboard + internal display at sleep. When the internal display is active spaces gives me a hard time finding applications. I guess there is a limit for everything. Thanks again

  • Part replacement for Apple Wireless bluetooth mouse ( not mighty)

I am looking for a bottom panel for my old apple wireless bluetooth mouse (not mighty). My son has dropped it down and that is how is not switching off anymore. I am thinking about replacement of that anyway removable panel (you remove it to place batteries),so I guess this part must be around somewhere. Any help is appreciated, thank you very much in advance!

    Hello m:
The only people that can answer that are the Apple people. As far as I know, those parts are not available from the web site.
Frankly, I think I would buy a new mouse as something may be damaged internally.

  • MacBook Pro + 1st Gen Apple Wireless (Bluetooth) Mouse = Headache

    Hi there.
I have recently purchased a Wireless Apple Mouse (not the current Mighty Mouse model, but the original no scroll-wheel one) off a seller on eBay who shipped it to me, and is adament the item is in full working order. I however, am not convinced.
I have spent the last two days trying to get rid of the lag I have with the mouse. It is unbearable, completely impossible to use. I have trawled the internet and indeed these forums to try and find a solution, but there is nothing that has worked. Restarting without Dashboard, killing every process possible, driver updates, OS updates, several different sets of batteries, unisntalling and reinstalling, tools to boost the speed of the mouse, the lot. I know my Bluetooth works fine, after having synced with several phones and other laptops without a hitch. Nothing will work, and worse still, everything I have read on the subject is related to the Wireless Mighty Mouse, effectively rendering the advice useless. Also, nobody seems to have had quite as dramatic a problem with it as myself.
The lag is unbearable. I have used wireless mouse and keyboards for years and they work wonderfully. The delay is probably about a quarter of a second, and the cursor jumps and stutters so it is not only a case of it moving slowly but behind my actions. I have noticed that the very moment I turn it on, if I move it quickly back and forth, I get a moment's teaser of how the mouse should work, with a smooth fluid action, but just for a second before the relentless stuttering. The buttons are unresponsive too.
I have checked the area for interference. I've disconected power supplies, turned off my phone's bluetooth, turned off my phone completely, turned off Airport, turned off my external Hard Drive, unplugged all cables. I am completely at a loss as to what the problem is, short of the mouse being broken in some way. But the seller is adament it was in working order (I doubt their honesty, and indeed, their intelligence after I told them I was using it with my MacBook Pro, and the responded asking if I was using it with a Mac and if I'd swopped the batteries).
So, does anybody out there have a clue if I'm right?

Elaborating on this still, as of yet, unsolved problem I'm having, I encounter an error whenever I download and try to run the apple wireless keyboard and mouse firmware 1.1. update. I try to open the .app and it fails every time, after numerous times of reinstalling, restarting, redownloading, the lot.

  • Wireless (Bluetooth) mouse and keyboard oddities

I'm having some issues with the bluetooth peripherals on my new Mac Pro. I thought some here might be able to tell me if this is "normal" behavior in any way, or if something is defective...
First of all I'm using the Wireless Mighty Mouse that came with the Mac Pro, and an older Apple bluetooth keyboard that came with my G5 PowerMac. (This is one of the clear-with-white-keys keyboards so ubiquitous for many years.)
Both the mouse and the keyboard are taking quite a long time to be recognized by the machine upon start up. The mouse takes perhaps an extra 10 seconds; the keyboard more like 30-60 seconds. On my G5 PowerMac both the mouse and the keyboard would be coupled by the time the operating system was finished booting up, so this seems odd to me.
If you're using bluetooth input devices on your machine, are you seeing similar behavior?
Secondly, the Wireless Mighty Mouse is regularly recognizing right-clicks (assigned to "Secondary Button") as left-clicks (Primary Button). Perhaps 15%-20% of all right clicks are registering as left-clicks. It seems like they mis-register in clumps of 2 or 3 in a row. It happens often enough that it essentially makes the right "button" useless, since you are constantly accidentally left-clicking on things that you had no intention of clicking on.
Right now I have hooked up my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 (via a USB port) and am having no such problems with it so far as I can tell, so it doesn't seem to be a general operating system error, but either something with the bluetooth communication, or something wrong with my Mighty Mouse itself.
    Any ideas?

You have to lift your finger from the left side before clicking the right side of the Mighty Mouse.

  • Possible to Sych iPhone to Apple Laptop via Bluetooth Like Steve Did?

Several years ago at a Macworld Steve Jobs demoed a Sony/Erickson cell phone that interacted with an Apple laptop. What was pretty cool was his ability to have the cell phone interact with the laptop's address book, show a picture of the caller, and then actually take the call via the laptop.
I don't know with all the MobileMe, synching features and the iPhone's caller picture pop up maybe this is to old of a feature to pursue? However, it would be neat not to have to dig the iPhone out of the briefcase or pocket and take a call via the laptop.

Here is a link to the manual. It will answer many questions.

  • Wireless bluetooth mouse erratic

Ok, I have read all of the forums and I am getting ready to take back this mouse. I have uninstalled Istat pro and the mouse still is all over the place sometimes. Istat widgets is still installed but the network and blue tooth part is shut off. When I turn airport on it goes crazy for a little bit but mouse acts funny when airport is off also. I just got this mouse on the 24th of Dec. Because I wanted my usb port back. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this or is this something that is wrong with this product. I am very happy with apple products and I just want this mouse to work.

I think I fixed the problem by shutting off bluetooth sharing. I also had a file that said pda sync on blue tooth preferences and I unchecked this box. Reinstalled istat pro widget and mouser is working fine.

  • Apple's (wireless) Mighty Mouse throwing fits

Not sure how to pinpoint the origins of this fault, but it all started about the same time as the 10.5.1. Update.
Some 0.5-1 hours in computer usage, the mouse would lose the left button and/or scrolling functionality (while maintaining maneuverability), and trackpad & click would work fine.
Am already patched to the absolute latest Software Update (which by the way, still gives me the ocassional "suspended 1st key press problem" which was purportedly solved by the patch.. well... not quite Apple

I am not familiar, either, with Apple's scripting tools. I find it somewhat odd that a simple option like configuring a button to double-click was not included by Apple in its spiffy BT MightyMouse, and that one has to purchase a shareware application to be able to have that configuration.

  • Wireless bluetooth mouse

how can i conserve the batteries? i like to use my imac throughout the day, but yet i hate turning off the mouse everytime im not using it. is there and recommendations?

    elmac wrote:
The mouse automatically sleeps when not in use....
Somehow I doubt it - but thats just me.
My trusty Microsoft wireless mouse has probably only had two Duracell replacements in almost four years and it was used every day.
I've had the iMac a month or so and the first set of Lithium batteries has already died.
The mouse battery consumption shouldn't be any worse than an old Microsoft wireless one should it ?

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Power Usage

OK, why can I not find how much power is used for Apple's Wireless Mighty Mouse. This mouse is cool and I like not being tethered BUT it is eating alive the batteries like they are nothing.
I disable the device by turning it off when I am not using it.
My solutions is to start using rechargeable batteries BUT as I read up on that technology it is clear I need to purchase the right ones, that will give me the longest use from them.
But to do this I need to figure out how much power the Mighty Mouse consumes if used constantly for say an hour.
I have looked every where including the Tech Spec's, one would think that information would be in there, but to no avail.
Thanks for any input in advance,
    Rob

My Bluetooth mouse does the same thing. I can usually get about two months use out of the batteries using Alkaline. If I use Lithium batteries, about two weeks longer. So in the long run, for me at least, it's more cost effective to use the alkaline batteries. Lithium rechargeables are are available as well as other types of rechargeable batteries, but they never really seem to last as long as their non-rechargeable counterparts and of course after several charges, begin to have shorter and shorter lifespan between charges. At least that's been my experience and may or may not always be the case with all rechargeable batteries what with newer charging technology.

  • More energy efficient: USB or Bluetooth mouse?

I have a great, very small Kensington USB mouse that I use with my MacBook Pro all the time. But the cord does get in the way, especially when working on a small coffee shop table, and I'm thinking about switching to a wireless Bluetooth mouse.
Which, however, do you think uses less energy (and therefore offers longer run time on the MBP's battery)?
For what it's worth, System Profiler reports that my USB mouse uses 100mA.

    Hi Scott
system profiler never seems to report bluetooth power usage under the usb section, nor could I see any reliable change when flipping BT on/off... but based on figures for BT adaptors, I guess you'll find it much the same, when receiving only, which presumably(?) would be much of the time.

  • Using Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse with a MacBook

What is required to use a MacBook with the Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse?
-- i.e., what 'setup' is required to get the MacBook to recognize those devices and respond to input from them?
    Thanks.

To be able to use the mouse and keyboard to full effect, such as key combos on boot and all the mouse buttons, its best to install the drivers from the cd that came with the mouse and keyboard.

  • 10.6.8 Bluetooth mouse has quit. But the mouse works with laptop and Mavericks.

OSX 10.6.8 iMac - Bluetooth mouse has quit. Batteries are good and the mouse works on Maverick laptop. It seems something is wrong in the operating system. I can't do a Safe Boot from the keyboard. Your thoughts, please.

  • Apple bluetooth mouse slow, possibly even sluggish?

Ok, my bluetooth apple mouse has started to annoy me, it seems to be quite slow (i usually use a MS wirless mouse, but decided to try out the apple one again) basically its just quite slow and very hard to move it just a small distance.
    To fix it I have:
    cleaned the optical sensor
    changed batteries
moved it to fastest tracking speed
    re-set it
    used it on different surfaces
    updated bluetooth firmware
basically everything I can think of but no joy, it still seems slow, is there anything I can do or is it likely to need to be replaced?
Also my microsoft one is on full speed, and its just about right although i would like it a bit faster, is there anything I can do?
also what does the small + and - switch do its the one under the battery cover
    Cheers for the help guys

I am experiencing the same issue. I have done a good bit of troubleshooting to narrow down the problem, and i wanted to share those results with this thread in hopes that we can come to a conclusion and hopefully fix it.
First off, this issue seems to be isolated to bluetooth wireless devices and wireless network traffic. I have a Logitech G7 bluetooth wireless mouse, and my Macbook is the 5.1 version
I have seen other threads that are trying to blame their mouse lag on their monitor, and have said that plugging the monitor's power to a different wall jack fixed their problem. This made no difference in my situation. Even having my External monitor completely out of the loop, i still experienced issues with bluetooth mouse + traffic over the wireless causing significant hitching and lagging of the mouse during the period of the traffic (i.e. copying 500mb file over network).
When i have my bluetooth mouse hooked up and i am copying a large file over the wireless, it lags horribly. If i take my hand and use the trackpad on the laptop itself *during the same copy*, it works fine... it is ONLY the bluetooth mouse.
If i hook an ethernet cable directly to the laptop, all issues with lag are gone when i use the network.
    So to recap:
ethernet cable + bluetooth mouse + network traffic = no mouse lag
wireless ethernet + trackpad + network traffic = no mouse lag
wireless ethernet + bluetooth mouse + network traffic = HORRIBLE MOUSE LAG
ON TOP OF THAT.... the issue is EXACTLY the same in Vista as it is in OSX

  • Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse only detect one button click

I have had my Apple Bluetooth wireless Mighty Mouse for a little over a year and it has just recently began to only detect on button function, and cannot differentiate between left click, right click, or the scroll click.
It behaves slightly differently under different settings. When I have the scroll click set to do ANYTHING, any click on the mouse will do that respective action. When I have the scroll click turned off, and the left is set to primary and right is secondary, it will do the Primary action. When I have the left set to secondary, and the right set to primary, it will still do the Primary action.
I have looked all over the internet and have found very little help. The scroll wheel is fine so I don't really want to have to take it apart and glue it back together. Anybody know any tricks? Anything will help! Thanks!

I found a partial fix over on this thread.
Basically, the fix is to install the shareware program USB Overdrive and set up the buttons via its control panel. Then uninstall it.
In my case, USB Overdrive brings my mouse back to normal operation, but when I uninstall it, my mouse goes back to acting like a one-button mouse.
For now, I'll keep USB Overdrive installed. Maybe I can bill Apple for the $20!
