Apple Remote and my PowerBook

Hi Guys,
Couple of questions.
Will my PowerBook work with the new Apple Remote?
Is the Apple Remote programmable? I record using my PowerBook and it would be great to be able to trigger Cubase to Record via the remote when I am in front of the Mic.
Cheers

No. The remote only works with iMac G5 (built-in iSight), Intel Mac Minis, MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and iMac Intel Core Macs. Only those models have the built-in Infrared receiver for that remote. There are remotes that are made to operate via a USB dongle you can get at the Apple Store and elsewhere.

  • I bought an IR receiver and an Apple Remote, and I can't get it to work. What am I doing wrong?

I bought an IR receiver and an Apple Remote, and I can't get it to work. What am I doing wrong? The receiver is a Lenovo eHome OVU430006/01 USB IR Receiver.

    Hello,
You would need to pair the Apple Remote with the receiver. So I would use the generic Mac/PC receiver and follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1619
If that doesn't work then check in System Profiler to see if the IR receiver has been recognized by the PowerBook's hardware. You may require the install of drivers for this device to be recognized.
    Best of luck

  • Apple remote and built-in trackpad stop responding

I have a Macbook Pro - late 2011 - and have upgraded to Mountain Lion the day it was released. I bought a brand new Apple remote and paired it with my MBP. Today, as usual, I used an HDMI cable to connect my MBP to a LED TV and started giving a lecture based on a Keynote presentation I created full of videos snippets and the like that I sometimes pause using the remote. All of a sudden the remote - which had been previously paired with my computer - stopped responding. I immediately switched to the arrow keys on the keyboard and finished the lecture. I also noticed that the built-in trackpad had stopped responding to multiple gestures.
Has anyone been experiencing these problems? And is there a solution? I have searched high and low, but to no avail.
    TIA

    Found a solution!!!
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Now eveything is working as expected!

  • HT1555 I pressed some thing on my apple remote and lost apple tv help me get back

I pressed something on my apple tv remote doused me to lose my apple tv I get other stuff but not my apple tv

could you try to explain more about what issue it is you are having
did you change the input source on your tv so it show other things then the appletv such an dvd or sat box?
did you turn off the appletv with the apple remote and don't know how to turn it on again?
when you say appletv do you mean some special part of the appletv software which you have no longer access to but "other stuff" being other parts of the appletvs functionality is still avaible?

  • Apple remote and multiple Apple TV's on same network question

I have 1st gen apple TV, Want to add 2nd gen apple tv.  I assume I can do that.  My real question is when using apple remote, can I control both Apple TVs independently?
Anyone have any knowledge of if this will work or not?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you are talking about the supplied remote, as Rudegar suggests you can pair each remote with each device so that only that remote will control the device it's paired with.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen. However it's not all that common for the TV's to be in different locations where an unpaired remote is unlikely to control both Apple TV's together. If you leave the remotes unpaired you should be able to use either remote with either Apple TV.
Alternatively if you are talking about the remote App for the iPhone, iPad or iPod, each Apple TV will show up as a separate device and you can control any Apple TV on your network from anywhere in your home.

  • White apple remote and 2010 MBP

The white apple remote which came with my 2007 24" iMac randomly stops working on my 2010 15" 2.4 MBP during my slide show which is very annoying, I have to switch out of keynote presentation to system preference panal and click on the pair botton under Security settings to get it back to work again. (I teach so it's very distracting for both my students and me), it happened once yesterday during class I thought it was the battery so I went out and got a new one during class break. Guess what, it happened twice today too. I checked with Photo Booth by clicking the remote directly into the iSight camera to make sure that it has no problem emitting infrared beam.
What's weird is it had no problem working on my wife's 13" 2010 MBP what so ever (I used to take her computer to class before I got my 15" last week).
Anyone can offer me any help or has ever gotten in to situations like this? I'd hate to go back to the apple store for a exchange since the new 15" runs pretty well and the both apple stores in Beijing are always packed.
    Thanks in advance!
oh and also, ever since 10.6.5 update I have to restart my computer before every class to get it to recognize a projector, any one knows how to fix this too?

  • Apple Remote and iTunes

Some time ago, I changed the setting for my Apple remote such that once iTunes is open and I press the menu button, iTunes becomes hidden.
Now, it has become a nuisance as once iTunes is open, the remote will do nothing else but hide iTunes when I press the menu button.
I've been trying really hard to figure out where to go to change this setting but to no avail.... can anybody help me?!

    Hi,
    I have had and fixed a similar issue;
    Setup;
Linksys ADSL router/model (4 port wired and wireless)
    LAN Network = 192.168.0.x
Mac Mini wired into the router (on same LAN)
Airport Express wireless (driving my stereo speakers and acting as a wireless client on the same LAN)
Apple iPhone 3GS wireless with Apple Remore app
iTunes 9.blah (last 9.x version before 10 havent upg yet, iTunes all configured to use airtunes, remote speakers and remote app etc)
Now It will all work fine and dandy at first then if i stop itunes (and the remote app disconnects) after a while (5 to 10 mins) the mac goes to sleep to save power.
The mac doesnt wake up again to accept the connection from the remote app.
So I found an apple support article (cant find it now) that suggested that I set the "wake on lan" feature, this wakes the mac and itunes if the mac has slept. Its in the system preferences / energy saver (its something like "wake on lan" or "wake on network")
    This fixes it for me.
    Cheers

  • Can't pair Apple Remote and MacBook Pro + Answer

I had an issue pairing my Apple Remote with my MacBook Pro.
The Apple manual says (on page 36):
To pair your Apple Remote with your MacBook Pro:
1 Position the Apple Remote 3 to 4 inches from the IR receiver on your MacBook Pro.
2 Press and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-forward buttons on the Apple Remote for 5 seconds.
After trying and failing several times to pair my remote using these instructions I gave up. While it could be a bit annoying not to have the remote paired it was not a significant enough issue to prompt me to send the notebook in for repair.
After a few days I decided that there must be a software conflict causing this problem since the remote works fine otherwise.
I scoured the net for a solution and found nothing. It seemed I was the only one with this problem.
Based on the premise that you should push all of the buttons and see what happens I tried several other button combinations on the remote. To my surprise holding the Menu + Play/Pause buttons together for five seconds paired the remote with my MacBook Pro.
I have unpaired and then re-paired the remote several times with this alternate button combination and it works every time.

My MacBook Pro didn't seem to work with the Apple Remote either, but it turned out that I needed to logout and back in before the system preferences recognised the pairing. This might be something to try if there doesn't seem to be any response from the computer .

  • Apple Remote and Mac mini wont pair

My remote works fine with Mac mini and Plex and Sofa Control. But I am unable to pair them. The settings are right and when I press Menu + Fwd nothing happens, no Pairing icon on the screen.
The situation is a frustration since I have an Apple TV besides connected to a second Apple Remote. Since my Mac mini wont pair, the Apple TV remote controls them both.
Does anyone had a similar problem and found a sollution?

Does it pair if the ATV remote is disabled?

  • Changing apple remote and Logic commands?

Is there a way to change what the apple remote does with logic--change what each button does and which function it affects?

So does ANYONE know if this is even possible? Please help with any info...

  • Apple Remote and play/pause with streaming Netflix on iMac w/o Apple TV?

When watching movies via Netflix streaming on my iMac, not on a TV using Apple TV, is there any way to use the Apple Remote my iMac came with to control the Play/Pause function on the Netflix site? I'm guessing not, but I figured I'd try asking...
Thanks for any help you can provide.

That's what I figured, I was just wondering if there was a way of changing what the remote does with Netflix, or possibly if there might be another device that could do it?
In the meantime, I'll just keep walking over to my computer to pause a movie. I remember the days of TVs without remotes, so it's not that big a deal, I guess.

  • Apple remote and apple  tv gen1

Apple tv gen 1 software 3.0.2 can't get it to update to ver 3.1.2 so remote only shows up in grey area in remote setting so I can't get my iPad or iPod touch to connect.

Click the gear icon, hit Add Library, enter the passcode on my tv from the remotes menu when my iPad appears.
once you click add library on your phone, then the grey option goes away and you can add the remote!!!
    just fixed mine

  • Problem with ipod dock and apple remote

I have a problem with my apple remote and my 5th gen ipod on a dock. I set it up and plug it into a TV, yet when i get into a music video playlist- it will only play 4 songs (the same ones) and then go back to the song selection screen. The same thing happens in the movie "tab" as well.
    Any ideas?

    btabz,
Thanks for your response. No the iPod doesn't respond at all--the volume display doesn't come up or change.
When I press the play/pause or either skip forward or back on the remote, the iPod, while on the dock, lights up and responds to the command as it should. But when I press volume up or down on the remote the iPod does not respond at all.
According to Apple's store info on the remote, the volume up/down controls should work. I am wondering if maybe it doesn't work with the 3Gs for some reason. But if that is the case, Apple should indicate that. It is kind of frustrating to not be able to adjust the volume.
    Thanks,

  • How can I get my Apple Remote to play/pause and do other functions on all applications?

When I press the F8 button on my Macbook, it plays or pauses the media for whatever media application I have open, whether that's iTunes, VLC, or MPlayerX. Same goes for F7 and F9, which are backwards and forewards respectively.
Well I recently bought an Apple Remote and expected that the same thing would go for the remote; the play/pause button would give the same command as the F8 button, so I could use the remote on whatever application that also supported the F7, F8, and F9 buttons. But apparently, that's not the case; so far I've only been able to control iTunes.
So is there any setting I can change or program I need to install to have the Apple Remote buttons work just like the keyboard media buttons? I tried Remote Buddy, but that's not giving me specifically what I want since it's only designed to make specific programs compatible. But they still don't support for example MPlayerX, which is my default video player.

Gosh, that must explain why it didn't come with a magic hat!
I completely accept the fact that Apple designed it to do a limited set of functions, but in the post I asked if there was any program that I can install that causes it to do hit the function keys for me. There's already Remote Buddy, which intercepts remote signals and performs specific functions instead of the normal ones. How then can there not be a program that also intercepts them, but hits the function keys? Seems to me that that would be even easier than what Remote Buddy's doing.

  • No Apple Remote or Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adaptor included with new MacBooks

    Hi!
I just picked up a new (black) MacBook yesterday from the Apple Retail Store in Meadowhall (Sheffield). I was quite surprised to open the box and find that the Apple Remote and Mini-DVI to VGA adaptor cable are now optional items and no longer included in the package. Okay, they're not expensive (an extra £30.00 to add both of them), but I just thought I'd mention it to let potential customers know.
I have to say that I'm very pleased at the speed bump and the 250GB hard drive though (you can never have too much space). Also good to have 2GB RAM out of the box (rather than paying an extra £90.00 for the 2GB model). Excellent!

bford0001 - 15% restocking fee? Did you buy it from an Apple Retail store? I bought a black MacBook from them just under two weeks ago (a 2.2 with 160GB HD and 2GB RAM) and they let me take it back and walk out of the store without charging me anything!
One other thing I have noticed - why has the L2 cache dropped to 3MB from 4MB? I know the processor is more powerful, but doesn't that mean it would just about level out, because of the reduction? I noticed the same for the £1,299.00 MacBook Pro and that on the other two models, it's gone up to 6MB. Anyone know how this would change the performance?
