Apple's policy for fixing broken keys

What is Apple's policy for fixing keys that have fallen off? I have three keys that have fallen off, I have two of the three keys still. If I take it in will Apple fix them and if so what about the key that I don't have? The Macbook is still under warranty.

Your local Genius Bar will replace them, free of charge under warranty, and probably in ten minutes or less.

    Hi, Britni.
Apple can replace the keyboard. If your MacBook is still covered by AppleCare Protection Plan, the repair may even be free.

  • Does apple take payments for for fixing broken Mac Pro?

Broken Mac Pro that needs to be fixed and I do not have 700 to fix it. Do they do a payment plan for fixing the Mac Pro?

If you are dealing directly with Apple in the US, you can ask for a Depot Repair. It may require the approval of the Store Manager, so be sure to be nice to everyone you deal with.
This takes about a week, subject to parts availability, and your MacBook is shipped to a regional Depot where it is returned to "operates as new" condition (based on a list of defects you provide) except for existing scuff marks on the case. The service is provided at a lower flat rate -- about half the cost of an in-store motherboard replacement. Anything on your "laundry list" will be looked at and addressed.
I submitted one MacBook for this treatment for a screen problem, and I complained that the top case was also cracked. They replaced the entire top case and the keyboard in it, all included.
If your MacBook has unauthorized modifications, such as an SSD in the DVD bay, these must be removed before submitting your machine for this service. Otherwise, your machine will be returned to you un-repaired. Aftermarket drives and memories installed in the expected spaces are acceptable.
Other than the time required, I do not know what or why some repairs might qualify for Depot Repair. If anyone reading knows, please speak up!

  • Apple genius asked for passcode - broken screen fix

I took my iPhone 6 to the Apple store last night for a broken screen.
When I was submitting my phone to be fixed, the Apple Genius asked for my passcode to unlock the device, he said they would need this to calibrate the display/device. He also asked me to shut off Find my phone.
After much questioning and some reservation (I have apple pay setup with multiple cards, personal photos, personal information on the device), I gave him the passcode because as he explained, they wouldn't be able to completely verify the repair without it.
This still seems very odd to me. Has anyone else brought their phone in for a screen repair and been asked for the passcode to unlock the device?
Note: I was at the store near closing time (no time to repair it while I was there), so I left my phone overnight to be picked up the next day.
    thanks

Yes. No matter if it's an iPhone, an iPad, or a Mac, they will request the password or passcode so they can make sure that the repair is completely done. This is typical of any computer repair shop and not unique to Apple. If you are ever really concerned about what they will find, run a backup on your computer, reset the device to factory settings, take it in for the repair, then restore your backup once the repair is complete.

  • Apple Return Policy for iPAD in Philippines

There is a section here on the site wherein they have a return policy for unsatisfied customer of the device. Well my iPad was given to me as a gift here in the philippines. I dont have the receipt and dont know exactly where the device was bought here. I was thinking where could I find a proper authority for this? All i see here just computers with terms and condition. Is there someone Can i talk to or chat to??
What to do? could i request for a return somehow?

I don't think an Apple Store will do anything for you after two weeks. I would suggest calling Apple Customer Relations, talk it over with them, and see what they will do for you.

FWIW...I bought a Power Mac B&W G3 once and two weeks later the Power MacG4s came out. That's the breaks with fast-paced technology.

  • Suggestion for fixing broken raid set

Jesus. Again. Twice in 6 months. Raid set failure.
2:58pm today : Drive 3:50014ee2aede46eb missing - Previous drive status was inuse
    2:59pm today : Degraded RAID set RS1
2:59pm today : Degraded RAID set RS1 - No spare available for rebuild
    Jesus...
After launching the Raid Utility, I notice that one drive is actually missing from the drive bays.. Its just gone, and I have not done anything to it. This happened last December as well. Hard booting the drive (pull out, push back in) worked last time to get the drive online, but jesus. Twice? I should maybe replace the drive? I am using Apple Raid Card, people say it turns to be pretty strict about the drives state, but why the **** it keeps disappearing from the system?!
I was already on the phone with one Apple consultant about this, and I think everything is pretty OK. I have good backups, and gladly, the OS RAID set is ok. Only our accounts and work files were in there, and all is secured. But this is really stressful.. Feels like I can't trust these drives one bit. And they are good drives, standard hardware what comes with Mac Pro.
Just when I was starting to think that everything is finally working smoothly..
Any recommendations about how to act now. I know what I have to do but, it would be encouraging if I would get some steps to how to fix it. Working order etc.
Everything works tho, taking one separate set of backups at the moment just in case. I just need to get my act together and fix it. God I am annoyed tho.
Good weekend to everyone tho. Comments are appreciated.

Yeah, I already ordered a new drive.
I can't do any tests for the bad drive cos it just disappeared from the system totally. I guess it could come online if I hard boot it again (like when the raid set broke last december), but I don't feel like doing it before I get the new drive. Need to analyze it on another computer.
The consultant I talked with earlier mentioned that the RAID card is pretty strict about the condition of the drive. But I would like to know if that is why the drive keeps disappearing, if it really totally ejects it from the system . I heard that some cases the the Raid Utility just shows the red light what indicates the drive state if there is a problem, but for me the drive is just gone totally.
Hope that the new drive arrives soon. Will the Raid rebuild itself if I insert the new drive and mark it as global spare ? That's what I understood from reading the Raid Utility manual.

  • Would apple charge me for fixing my home button on my 4th generation Ipod touch if it's under warranty?

I have a 4th generation Ipod tough. My Home button hasn't been responding for a while now. I have to press it down really hard to get it to work. I want to go send it to a apple store so they can fix it, but I'm not sure if they'll fix it for free or If I have to pay for it, it's under warranty. I bought it at Wal-mart and has a 2 year warranty , plus the warranty for apple. I want to know if they'll do it for free, if not, how much would they charge me? I Also trouble shooted it and everything.

If you have the AppleCare extended warranty (2 years total) and the iPod is within warranty, defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at not cost for a refurbished one. You can check you warranty coverage with Apple by entering the iPod's SN here:

  • What is apple's replacement policy for a macbook pro?

Macbook Pro, 13" from Summer 2011 running Mavericks
Still under applecare, but will run out in approximately a month.
As stated above, I bought the computer in the summer. A couple months later, I took it in to the store and ended up having the logic board and entire screen replaced because there were issues with both.
This past march (2014) I took it into the store and had the hard drive cable replaced because my hard drive was "missing"
Afterwards, I was having issues with the computer shutting down randomly. I would close the lid - putting it to sleep - and then I would sometimes hear later on (not immediately afterwards) the disks start going again or the fan start blowing as if the computer was turning on again and working on something. Sometimes I would put it in my backpack and 20 minutes later take it back out and find that it was super hot and the battery had completely drained. The computer also got a lot slower. I talked with apple on the phone and the person I talked to even commented on how slow it was going as she had me open up certain things to check settings, etc. That resolved nothing so I took it in to the store. The store technicians took it and then gave me a call later and told me they found nothing wrong with it. They offered to send it in to the factory or some other repair center for a more thorough search and repair. Due to certain work circumstances, I said that I would see if things got better. A few days later, things got a lot worse and I ended up taking it to the store and having it sent out to the factory. Both times I was at the store I could see exactly what the technicians were writing down, and despite me telling them over and over again, they wrote down things that weren't really the issue. Maybe this is minor, but for example, I would tell them that my battery heated up when the computer was supposed to be asleep and it would get hot and drain completely in a very short time while it was supposed to be asleep. They would write down "battery drains quickly." They also just didn't seem to care very much - walking away and helping other people despite my appointment, etc. Well they sent it off to the factory and then shipped it back to me after replacing the logic board, battery, fan, and ram. I called apple as it was being shipped back to me and asked to talk to a manager because I thought it was rather ridiculous that my computer was having so many issues - I felt like as soon as my warranty was up it was just going to have another problem and I would end up paying for it. He to me he would extend the warranty some and he alluded to possible a possible replacement of the computer down the line if I was still having issues. The day I got the computer back, it kept trying to shut down. It froze once. I wasn't even doing much with the computer - it shouldn't have been overloaded by a long shot. I called and left a message for the manager. He called me back a couple days later and I told him what the issues were as soon as I got the computer back. However, they abated between the time I got it back and the time he called me back, so he attributed it to the fact that I had been using google chrome and said I should check my updates. I switched browsers and made sure I was updated and for a time it was ok-ish (still slow). Then I had an issue where I was copying files to my desktop. The copying went on forever and ever and my computer started freezing. I tried shutting down and I couldn't. I hit the power button and it wouldn't turn off. After forever, I finally got it to turn off and restarted. Then the random shut downs started again. And then, finally, I was left looking at a folder on a gray screen. Called the manager again and he said it was probably the hard drive cable. He said that if the cable replacement didn't fix it, we would probably be looking at replacing the computer. I took it in to the store and had it replaced. It didn't do any good. Now the manager wants me to send it to the factory again. He says that I almost had reached the amount of repair issues that would get me a new computer, but the first issues right after I got it didn't count since they weren't very recent. What is apple's policy on replacing laptops that seem to just be lemons?

We cannot answer the question nor will Apple. You will need to consult your state's lemon law to determine whether you have a case. Most likely you will need to go to arbitration. If you need to go to court you will need to hire an attorney or use small claims court if your case is eligible.
If Apple has such a policy, then only Apple knows what that policy is. So you will need to take the matter up with them through the local Apple Store.

  • Will apple be able to fix my iPod button for free

My button has gotten flat and hard to click will I be able to get it fix for free

Not true, you do not have to buy a new one.  Apple will replace your broken iPod for
$99 (8gb)-$149 (32gb)-$199($64 gb). Or you can use this workaround for a broken home button with iOS 5. Use Assistive Touch (Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch) which will put a button on your screen which will allow you to simulate the home button.

  • Is Apple working on a fix for editing photos for wallpaper, call contacts with photo, etc? The iPhone used to be so intuitive for everything but that tanked with the ios7 upgrade

iPhone 5 was so intuitive before the update. Editing photos has changed for the worst-any word of a fix for editing photos for wallpaper? Not a work around, a fix. If I wanted this kind of photo editing I'd still be using my droid x.
Anyway to go back to ios6?

Is Apple working on a fix for editing photos for wallpaper, call contacts with photo, etc?
    How would we know?
What's broken that you think needs to be fixed?
Anyway to go back to ios6?
    No

  • IPad 2 is getting very slow after installing iOS8. Is Apple comming with a fix for it?

iOS8 is making ipad2 extremely slow. I can't work with it anymore. When is Apple comming with a fix?

Now, you can downgrade your iPad from iOS 8 to iOS 7, BUT do it quickly. A few days later, the way is not available any longer:
    1. Download iOS 7.1.2 firmware for your iPad 2. (just google it)
    2. Make sure you have install the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Connect your iPad to computer via a USB cable.
    3. After detected, your iPad will be shown in the left column. Click your iPad to show the control panel.
Note: Make sure you have backups of your iPad. if not, backup it now.
    4. Under Summary tab, hold on Shift key in Windows(Option key in Mac ) click Restore iPhone....
    5. In the pop-up window, find the firmware on your computer and click Open.
    6. Then, iTunes will downgrade your iPad to iOS 7.1.2.

  • Buy apple care plan help fix everything for the imac osx lion 10.7.5

Hi apple pplz.. I have a question to ask you. If i buy renewal my apple care plan for imac osx lion 10.7.5. Sometime in the future, if my computer is broken down or having issue on the computer. What the apple care plan coverage all the internal part if anything goes wrong it. Cause i don't want to pay for a huge money just for fixing the parts if cost more $1000, worth more than i bought it brand new??

Apple is not here, you're talking to other users.
If you buy the AppleCare warranty, it will cover any defects in the computer, just like the included one-year warranty. Note that you must purchase AppleCare within one year of the purchase of the Mac.
