Apple script to play a podcast faster

Hi
I'm trying to use a script to select an itunes podcast, then open QuickTime and then play the podcast at 1.5 speed
This script used to work for me in itunes, but now I get this error:
       Can’t get «class pLoc» of «class pTrk» of application "iTunes".
I'd love to be able to open VLC and do this.
tell application "iTunes"
    pause
set my_track to location of current track
    set my_seconds to player position
end tell
tell application "QuickTime Player"
    open my_track
    set my_movie to first document
    set ts to «class tmsc» of my_movie
set current time of my_movie to my_seconds * ts
set rate of my_movie to 1.5 -- starts playing
end tell
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I'll give you one more method to add to the list:
Play Prompt (--Trigerring Contact--, S[extension])
The S[] prompt literal means to [S]pell out whatever value is in the variable.
Additionally...
#[position_in_queue] = First, Second, Third, etc. These are called ordinal numbers.
N[points] = One Hundred and Thirty Seven, Sixty Nine, etc. These are called cardinal numbers.
Lastly, you could use the Create Generated Prompt step to convert to other formats, but the spelling one is a simple and common one, which does not require that step.

  • Apple Script for deleting podcasts

I subscribe to a lot of podcasts, but I don't want to keep them in my iTunes library after I'm done listening to them. Is there an Apple Script for automatically deleting podcasts? Thanks.

Thanks - once I'm in Automator and select Music, I don't see any options for finding Podcasts. Any suggestions which item/step I should select next in Automator? Thanks.

You'd probably get faster help with scripting in a sub forum of the operating system forum for whatever OSX version you are running.  No, it's not easy to find but a forum focusing on scripting is there because I hunted one down for somebody once, it's just not called that.  You can certainly wait patiently on your post here but I don't see many answers to posts about writing scripts on the iTunes forum even if they are for using with iTunes.

  • How do I play video podcasts on my TV using via Apple AV cable? After iOS 6 upgrade and being forced to use Podcast app, I'm unable to do this.

I used to be able to play video podcasts on my TV by connecting my iPod touch to the TV via an Apple AV cable.  Now that I've upgraded to ios 6 and the podcasts app got installed along with the upgrade, video podcasts will no longer play on my TV when connecting the iPod to the Tv via an Apple AV cable.  It should be noted that other video content (movies, TV shows, etc) will play when connecting the iPod to the TV via an Apple AV cable.  Is there a setting I need to make that will fix this, or is this yet another bug with the podcasts app? Or is the Podcast app for some reason designed so that you are unable to output a signal via the AV cable when playing back video content (this would be a pretty bad decision on apple's part).  Also, I have to say that I'm not happy at all with the Podcasts app, so if there's a way to uninstall it without harming the functionality of ios 6, that would be great.

I found a workaround that puts podcasts back in the video app as well as the music app so you can watch them on TV via an AV cable again.
The instructions can be found at this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaI9GwPKXkE
    In short:
    1. Make sure both the music and podcast app aren't running on your iPhone.
    2. Plug your iPhone into your computer and disable Podcast syncing for your iPhone in iTunes.
    3. Remove the podcast app from your iPhone
    4. Plug your iPhone into your computer again and turn on podcast syncing, then sync.
    5. Turn off and then back on your iPhone.
After I did this, I found podcasts had returned to being listed in my music and video apps.
    Hope this helps you too!

  • No chapter list in podcast / Fast Forward issues

    No chapter list in podcast.
When I listen to music and press fast forward it would go the next chapter of the podcast but now it seems it goes to the next podcast.
Is there a setting or something I am missing or not aware of?
Very annoying when I download music podcast and cannot move to the next chapter!
    ARGHHHHH

    i feel your pain.
after some messing around with siri, the music app and the podcast app. here's a solution that works (kind-of). i hate it, but i'm a subscriber of the economist too and this is the only way i know to play individual chapters.
basically if you can get music app -- note NOT the iTunes app and NOT the podcast app, but specifically your music app --, to start playing your podcast then you can see the chapter list inside that podcast.
the problem is that there is no easy way to launch your music app and point it at your podcast (how dumb is that ?). the work around i've found is to use siri. if you say 'play the economist podcast', siri uses the music app to start playing the podcast. and lo-and-behold, you can see the chapters !
hope this helps. apple really need to fix this.

  • Ipod Classic will no longer play video podcasts after upgrade to iTunes 10.

I have a 120GB Classic. I used to be able to play video podcasts just fine. Since upgrading to iTunes 10.0 in September I can see Podcasts with a little video symbol next to them on the iPod, but when I click on them the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, then flips back to the menu. If I copy the Podcast to a playlist, I get audio but no video, as always. The video podcast plays fine on the PC. I've tried "converting to iPod or iPhone version" with no success. I've Googled this problem and found many others with this issue, none with their question answered. Does anyone know if this is an issue acknowledged by Apple, and if so, do they plan to fix it? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
    Thanks.

am having the same problem with hannah montana episodes, anyone have a solution? apple?

Upgrade to Snow Leopard - it's compatible with the latest version of iTunes, and still supports PowerPC applications.
    $19.99 - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard is required if you wanted to upgrade to Lion, anyway, which you may want to in the future if the latest version of iTunes no longer supports Snow Leopard.

  • The sound on my iPhone 4S cuts out when playing music/podcasts.

The sound on my iPhone 4S cuts out when playing music/podcasts.  If I unplug and replug in the headphones, the sound comes back on, but often for only 20 seconds or so before cutting out again.  Sometimes it will play for 15-20minutes before cutting out.  The track is not "paused", and appears to continue, just no sound.  I tried cleaning the headphone jack with compressed air to no avail.  I also noticed the the same phenomenon occurs when I sync my bluetooth to my car audio.  That is, it will play for a while, then the sound will cut out, even though the track is still shown to be playing.  If I reset the bluetooth, the sound comes back on.
This started happening about a week ago, but no "event" that I can think of caused it.  I didnt' get the phone wet, forcefully drop it, or leave it in extreme heat.  I've tried doing a reset of the phone.  I also was running iOS5 when I first noticed this, and since upgraded to iOS6.  The problem appeared with both.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

  • My I-Pod plays all podcast in reverse order such as 3.2.1 no matter how I arrange them in I-Tunes.  How do I get my I-Pod to play in the proper 1,2,3 sequence?

My 3rd gen I-Pod plays all podcast in reverse order, even if I manually try to load it.  I will only automatically play in 3,2,1 order.  Even brought it to the Apple Store and they couldn't figure it out either.  Even bought another I-Pod and still plays in reverse order.  Any ideas out there?
Thanks in advance for any help, Ty

They did not order the podcasts correctly in the playlist then.  Several people, including myself, have been able to play podcasts in sequential order.
When viewing the playlist in iTunes, look to the far left of each episode. There should be a number next to it.  This is the ordering of the playlist.  Sort the playlist in sequential order and view the numbering along the leftmost column and see if the ordering matches up as desired. If they don't, you'll need to drag and drop tracks until they are.
Once the ordering is as desired, right->click on the playlist and choose Copy to Play Order. Then resync the playlist over to your iPod.

  • Is there any way to play your podcasts with out the horrible app?

The stupid app that apple makes you get on your ipad keeps crashing and not playing my podcasts. Is there a way I can play them from itunes, and not have to deal with the crappy app?

Is it also playing music at double speed, or just podcasts?
If it is just playing podcasts at double speed, then perhaps you accidentally clicked the "2x" button.  It appears on the right side of your screen, just beneath the slider to adjust your playback position in the podcast.  The button is a 3-way toggle, with options for "1x", "2x", and "1/2x".

  • Since upgrading my phone to 6.0.1, I'm using way too much data. I believe it's the podcast app that's not loading shows while I'm connected to wifi. I have the 3g turned off for podcasts??? also after a phone call or an alert it starts playing a podcast?

I've also had the same issues, after upgrading to IOS 6.0, the apps in my iPhone 4 were crashing and the battery life run out very fast.
The only solution worked for me was to remove all mail accounts (Exchange/Gmail) from my iPhone (in settings) and then add them back.
The crashing were stopped! also the battery was back to normal.
I found the solution by first looking at the crash logs (in IOS 6). you can find them at Settings -> General -> About (at the bottom of the About menu you will find the option that opens the logs).
There i saw many logs about Low Memory crash. 99% of the logs were pointed that the largest process (use the most memory) during the crashes is "dataaccessd".
I search in the web and found that this process is a deamon process that reponsible the Mail accounts (like Exchange/Gmail) and contancts list.
I've installed the app "System Status - activity monitor" which shows important system info like CPU usage, Memory usage and running processes.
Before apply my solution (deleting the mail accounts) i saw that the CPU usage was very high which consume the battery very fast. Also i saw that the memory (RAM) was run out.. which probably what cause the crashing..
After deleting the mail accounts (at Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars) i check again with the System Status app, and saw that the memory and CPU were back to normal.
Adding the mail accounts back, still everything work ok
Hope this solution will help you too,
    Enjoy!

  • Script to play itunes playlist on start?

I have just done the software upgrade to SL and now my old script doesnt work to auto play an itunes playlist on startup.
I found the following script as a replacement but it doesnt seem to run automatically on start up.
    tell application "iTunes"
      activate
      play playlist "1jwmix"
    end tell
I placed this script into Apple Script Editor and saved it in my MUSIC folder. And Yes I added the script to the log in items... so it does currently open on start up. Just doesnt seem to auto run the script.
Sorry script writing isnt something I understand much about.
    Help please!

Presuming you've confirmed that the script works correctly when run in AppleScript Editior, make sure you're saving the script as an application, not a script. Then put that application in your startup items.
    Hope this helps.

  • Playing audio podcasts from my iPod on TV

I have no problem playing video podcasts from my iPod on TV, using the Apple AV cable and a scart adapter.
However, when I play an audio podcast, I hear the audio on the TV, but I don't see the accompanying visuals that are part of the audio podcast.
I tried to find a "TV on" setting for audio podcasts (similar to that used for video podcasts) but couldn't.
    Can anyone help/advise?
    Thanks in advance!

I belive your Ipod is operating normally!
I belive the only time you'll get a visual is when your playing back Video, Music video and Video podcast.
There are no visuals output to Tv for audio programs;only on the Ipod itself!
