Apple should rework Find My iPhone

Here are my thoughts after one of my friends losing an iPhone at school.
Losing your iPhone could be devastating. And Find My iPhone is useless if your iPhone is turned off. I wondered is it possible to enforce password protection when turning off your iPhone?
Apart from wipe your iPhone, send messages and alert, mobile me should include a steath mode with power saving feature which can buy us more time in looking for our phone and at the same time with location service and all previously mentioned features working.
*please forgive my English.

I strongly suggest that all iPhone users have both Passcode Lock and Auto-Lock turned on. The shortest interval for Auto-Lock is 1 min. Which means that someone has to access the phone in under 60 seconds from when the user clicks the power button in order to get past knowing the Passcode.

  • Second iCloud/Apple ID for find my iphone (in the enterprise)

My organization has several iPhone 6's on which we want to use find my iphone with  an enterprise apple id. We want to let the user have their own icloud account for everything else.  Is there a way to do this?
If we have to wipe a device we will need the find my iphone (icloud) password.  If the employee has left the company they may be unwilling or unable to give it to us. Especially if the parting was on less than amicable terms.  There should be a way for us to wipe the device and restore the OS without having to go to an apple store and provide proof of ownership.  I am advised that this was possible before ios 7

An IOS device may only be signed into one account at a time, not both. You'll need to decide which matters most, personal use or business use of the device.
You may also want to open a business account for purchases made for company use. http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/

  • HT201441 How do I update my apple ID for find my iphone when it is linked to an old deleted email address that is not recoverable

I recently changed my apple ID after I deleted my old email address which is no longer recoverable. I cannot get the find my iphone app to work. When I log in to try and change my apple id to the current one, or delete the account, it asks me for my password to the old email (apple id). I have no idea how to change this to be current. The password for my old apple id will not work and I am going in circles. When I log into the app and use my current apple id it does not locate any of my devices. They all say they are offline but are not. Any suggestions or help on how to unlink my old apple id to this app??

    Hello Fatboy896,
You may need to temporarily change your Apple ID back, sign out of iCloud on your device, then revert the change to your Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud

  • How can I use a different Apple ID for Find My iPhone than for iCloud syncing/storage and iTunes purchases?

I use two different Apple ID's for two iPhone 4's and for iTunes on my PC. I use one for purchases and the other for Find My iPhone on both phones. How can I set up iCloud for both phones using each ID for it's user for storage and backup but keep one ID for purchases and one for Find My iPhone on both phones?

To better describe what I am needing:
    1. - iPhone 1
    2. - iPhone 2
    A. - Apple ID #1
    B. - Apple ID #2
On 1. I need A for purchases and iCloud and B for Find My iPhone.
On 2. I need A for purchases and B for iCloud and Find My iPhone.
In addition, will iCloud store text messages?

  • Can I use 1 apple id for contacts and one apple id for find my iphone

My family has multiple deivces on using the same apple id for store stuff and to find my iphone.  How can I put a different apple id on my phone so our contacts won't get merged.

Yes you can.  Changing your ID won't get rid of any of your previous purchases.  You just won't be able to redownload them from iCloud.  (They are permanently tied to the ID you used to purchase them and you can't switch IDs and redownload under the new ID for 90 days - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627).  So be sure to transfer them to your iTunes library by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  That way you can sync them back at any time without worrying about having to redownload them.

  • Can I use a different Apple ID for Find My IPhone and syncing contacts, calendars, etc?

I would like to use one Apple ID to sync all of my contacts and calendars, but I need to place the Find My iPhone functionality in a different Apple ID account. Is this possible? Ideally Find My iPhone would be the ONLY feature used by that account, not app sharing, store purchases or anything else.

To better describe what I am needing:
    1. - iPhone 1
    2. - iPhone 2
    A. - Apple ID #1
    B. - Apple ID #2
On 1. I need A for purchases and iCloud and B for Find My iPhone.
On 2. I need A for purchases and B for iCloud and Find My iPhone.
In addition, will iCloud store text messages?

My iphone 4 got stolen two weeks ago. It was off because of down battery therefore i could not track it by app find my iphone but i immediately blocked it and report to police. • How would I suggest apple on function "FIND MY IPHONE"?

I think this is a very useful function
BUT It is too easy to turn this function OFF if there are anyone pick my iPhone up and know how to use the iOS 4.2
So, they just go to setting>mail&calendar>mobile me>find my iPhone>OFF
    See?
I mean if anyone would like to turn off this cool function, they must enter the lock password before
I suggest apple to add the entering password function to it like when purchasing apps in App Store
Please add on the next iOS update
There will be very useful to everybody

Enable the iPhone's Passcode Lock feature so a thief cannot access anything on your iPhone.
Regardless, all a thief needs to do is power the iPhone off. In the case of a GSM iPhone, the SIM card can be removed which prevents it from working as well while the iPhone is powered on. The Passcode Lock feature prevents accessing anything on the iPhone without entering the passcode when powering the iPhone on.

  • Apple configurator management   Find my Iphone

    Hello,
I would like to ask for help. We have 40 iPads and this number is going to raise. I would like to track them with Find my Iphone app.
We're using Apple configurator to manage our iPads. I have one MASTER iPad which i prepare to be cloned to other iPads. I have installed Find my Iphone on MASTER iPad, but when I make a clone of MASTER it has to be set again ...
Well I think my question leads here : Is it possible to CLONE all settings ? Not just install apps ? It also happens with gmail. When I install gmail application and I log in there and mark stay logged in, when cloned it wants to be logged in again ...
Other problem that I am experiencing is that, when I apply some restriction profile, It can be easily removed from Control Panel/General/Profiles... Is there a way to lock these profiles so they can't be removed ?
    Any help will be appreciated

Edit: Other problem that I am experiencing is that, when I apply some restriction profile, It can be easily removed from Control Panel/General/Profiles... Is there a way to lock these profiles so they can't be removed ? (Solved for the self made Profiles, but there is one CERTIFICATE profile from configurator(other profiles use it for verification) which I can't set password for...)
Had to post it as reply ... forum says me this when I am trying to edit my own post ... : You are not allowed to create or update this content

  • Apple should make transfer for iPhone 4 users to iPhone 5c

Old users can get for free iPhone 5c. Apple have many iPhone 5c models but they are not famous and now you get it?

Explain why you should get something for free, that is not a basic human neccessity.
I'm all for the idea of providing the basic survival needs to those that cannot acquire them on their own.  Food, clothing, water, shelter, even education.  But a smartphone?  No.
    You're confusing a need with a want.

  • How do you remove an apple id from find m iphone if you are unable to contact previous owner

i bought a phone from someone 4 months ago on craigslist and never went to activate it until now and saw that it wont let me passed the activation screen and im not able to contact the seller because i don't have their information how can i get it removed or how can i set up my icloud account?

You can't. Unless the previous owner remembers to remove the activation lock, that iPhone is useless to you.

  • Limitation of Find my iPhone

I recently had misplaced my brand new iPhone 5 and it was turned off when I tried to call it using another mobile phone. I tried to locate it using Find My iPhone App and using it from iCloud, but it was offline.
Normally, most people will report lost phone to the telco and telco will temp suspend the phone line, users will then get a replacement SIM and it further disabling the tracking function of Find my iPhone.
I strongly believe that Apple should improve Find My iPhone App especially when dealing with a savy thief. He/she simple turn off the iPhone or take out the SIM card disabling the tracking facility.

The cellular networks in the US are developing a phone database where owners will be able to report a stolen phone. Once a phone is reported stolen it will be disabled and will not e able to be used again. This should help deter thieves when it becomes available.

  • Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two? also I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own?
Yes, it is possible. 1 apple ID can be associated with up to 10 devices.
If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps?
    Yes, all purchases are non-transferable.
How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?
Every device associated with one apple ID through Find my iPhone is tied to that Apple ID; Find my iPhone will work in the same way with up to ten devices associated with one apple ID. You cannot enable Find my iPhone for one device across two apple IDs
I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?
If you have authorized a computer with the old apple ID, you can transfer old media purchased through the old to other devices via iTunes. This doesn't mean the media purchases through the old apple ID it transferred to the new account. If you plan to make future purchases and don't wish to share them with others, make your own apple ID.

  • How many devices can be under one Apple ID for using find my iPhone?

I work for a school and we were told by an Apple representative that Find My iPhone works for only 10 devices under each Apple ID. Is this true? If I have 30 iPads under 1 apple ID will only 10 of them show up under "Devices" on iCloud? Will we only be able to locate 10 of them?

Documentation related to the iTunes store indicates that a maximum of 10 devices can be associated with a single ID (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627).  I'm not sure, however, if that applies to iCloud or not.  If it does, you could always assign a different Apple ID and associated iCloud account to each group of 10.  You could still track them all; you would just have to sign into each iCloud account separately to track the devices associated with that ID.  Apple may also have other enterprise solutions that would be available to your situation.  You should contact Apple directly to inquire about this.
