The simple shortest answer is that you can't (Change a Buddy's settings)
From your own end you can reply to the first Off Line IM you get on an AIM login (an accompanying IM for AIMSysMessage asks if you want them to Continue - replying No stops them)
IF you have stopped Off Line IMS than you can reset this at AIM Settings
You can log in here with AIM and Apple IDs that end in @mac.com and @me.com (iCloud issued @me.com name are an Exception)
In addition the Setting in iChat > Preferences > General Section that refers to setting the Status to Off Line on Quit stops the App starting up if iChat is not launched but the computer is ON

The new tab behavior is driving me nuts. It keeps re-centering on tabs nearest the start of the list when I move a tab. How do I change this?
I don't want to download an app. I would rather add a new string in about config or just change of the ones in there to false. It's making my work life rather difficult, to be forced to go all the way back to the end of my list after moving one tab just to have to do it again. I mean it's to the point where I might consider changing browsers if they had tab scroll bars.
Edit: At this point I will download any app. Please make this stupid feature stop.The result of setting up that code will do exactly as you described: the tabs will be crowded together. I had not noticed any change in behaviour of Firefox with tabs because all the tabs are crowded together, so they cannot scroll, and I very seldom move tabs.

This command will change the ownership of a file.
Any file or folder with a userid of 501 is changed to 1000. Your numbers will differ.
sudo find -x / -user 501 -exec chown 1000 {} \;
#And you need to do this from an administrator id.
More examples:

sudo find -x / -group 20 -exec chgrp 211 {} \;
#combined change of uid & gid

My grand daughter was playing on my iPad. She has some how changed the app for buying apps from uk to the USA. Now all the apps are in dollars and I cannot purchase any because of this.

Trying to set up appointments on my calendar. When I input the time, the calendar defaults to a "one-hour" segment. How do I fix this?
To change the default event time go into Tools-Options-Calendar-General and set the duration time.
No menu bar with Tools? Press the alt key.
To be able to change the time when setting the individual event, click on the link icon to the right of the time fields. If the points of the links are touching the duration time is locked to the default. If the points are separated you can set any duration. -

Airdisk shows as Server: afp:// How do I change this to smb://?

My HFS+ formatted Seagate 2 TB hard drive shows as an afp server and not a smb server. I want to change this so I can share files and access them from my WDTV Live streaming media player. The WDTV only has the options of smb/ctif or nfs.
How can I change this drive to present itself as a smb server and not a afp server. Currently it appears as afp://<airportname>.afpovertcp.local/2TB_NW_drive
Where 2TB_NW_drive is the name I've called the drive.

When I look at the 'Get Info' of the hardrive via the Mac it shows as
"Server: afp://<airport_name>/.afpovertcp.local/2TB_NW_drive". The folders on this hdd show as folders off this drive ie. afp://<airport_name>/.afpovertcp.local/2TB_NW_drive/<folder_name.
I'm attempting to access this drive via WiFi from my WD TV Live Streaming Media Player and I'm guessing that the WD does not see this as an SMB server so therefore ignores it. My thinking (which could be wrong) is that if this drive were to appear as smb://<airport_name>... then the WD will see it and the folders within, as an smb server. WD TV supports SMB or NFS only.
(BTW I can access the HDD from the WD if it's directly connected to my Mac, however the Mac connects Wifi to the AEBS so there are dual Wifi paths. Connecting the HDD to the AEBS direct means there's only one path and potentially better streaming capabilities.)

What is the length of time that an email will be held in the email trash after being deleted? Also how do I change this default? I follow the instructions in the manual until it says to click on something called "advanced." There is nothing like that on the screen so I am stuck.
Go to Settings > Mail
Then tap on your account.
SCROLL DOWN TO ADVANCED and tap advanced.
Then look at Deleted Messages > Remove
Tap on Remove and select the amount of time you want.
