  • Resolution changed on remote display.  Fan runs at HIGH speed.

Today, for no reason, resolution changed on remote display.  Option needed no longer shown.  Tried SMC and PRAM resets.  Now resolution on the MAC AIR is messed up (not full screen) and the fan runs at HIGH speed.  This is a sudden change.  Have been using the MAC Air in this exact configuration for 2 years.  Tried restart/reset of monitor.  Nothing.  Did resets on MAC and screen changed there.  Also the fan runs at high speed.

  • If I have 2 tv's and each their own apple tv can I display the same program to them from my macbook at the same time?

If I have 2 tv's and each their own apple tv can I display the same program to them from my macbook at the same time?
    for instance Keynote?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV cannot display keynote presentations or websites from the computer. It can display them via mirroring from the iPad 2 or better or the iPhone 4S.
You cannot AirPlay to 2 Apple TV 2's at the same time from an iOS device. You can watch the same video, TV show or listen to the same music from your iTunes library on multiple Apple TV's at the same time.

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.

  • Your thoughts.. lack of functionality Apple Universal Dock Remote Control

Most of us that toy around with the a/v out capabilities of the Touch are aware that standard remote control functionality is not currently available with the Apple Universal Dock remote. I can understand how mapping the multi-touch functionality to the remote's 'standard iPod wheel' functionality is like mapping apples (no pun intended) to oranges. But, I would imagine a firmware update could do the trick. However, I think it would be really cool (and expensive) to create a mini multi-touch remote.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
I have posted my enhancement request, firmware upgrade first.. new remote second... to Apple's feedback site... please send in your comments if you feel the same way I do... they do listen...

What happens when you try to use the remote with an iPod touch in an Apple Universal Dock? I'd been thinking of getting Apple's dock/remote, especially because the features guide says,
You can connect iPod touch to your TV and watch your videos on the larger screen. Use the Apple Component AV Cable, Apple Composite AV Cable, or other iPod touch compatible cable. You can also use these cables with the Apple Universal Dock, available separately, to connect iPod touch to your TV. (The Apple Universal Dock includes a remote, which allows you to control playback from a distance.)
Does the remote have only limited function, then? What does the remote do, or not do?

  • How does the Apple Headphones with Remote Replacement Program non-return fee work?

I have a pair of Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic that I purchased a year ago. According to the "Apple Headphones with Remote Replacement Program", http://www.apple.com/support/headphones/replacementprogram/, these headphones are also covered in the program. Currently, there are some issues with my headphone's remote, as it is extremely unresponsive. I don't know how Apple determines the headphone's purchase date, but their online service request page accepts my iPhone's serial number. Is there any way that i could ensure that Apple's willing to replace the headphones for free (E.g. mailing my current ones in first) because the non-return fee is basically its retail price. I do not live in the US so I can't go and exchange at an Apple Retail Store. Thanks in advance.

I would just bring them into your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and ask.

  • Trouble-shooting no sound through the right side of Apple earphones with remote...

Hope this story of trouble-shooting this problem helps someone in the future.
For some strange reason, when I listened to a podcast using the Music app through the Apple earphones with remote on my iPhone 4, the right side has no sound.  However, when I pull the earphone plug out one notch, I get sound from both sides, but the remote controls no longer work.  At that point, I was sure I had a hardware problem, but where it lay-- earphones or iPhone 4, I didn't know.
    1.  For my first step, I tried the earphones with another iPhone 4, and got the exact same results.  That convinced me that it was a problem with the earphones, but then I tried them on our iPad and they worked fine!
    2.  That ruled out the earphones and got me wondering if both iPhone 4's earphone jacks were flakey or misbehaving.  I had read about the old fuzz in the jack problem, so I used an air blower to clean it out, but it made no difference.  I still figured that maybe both jacks were stressed in some way, although two of them?
    3.  Then I read that some people found different apps worked--and even specifically that running Skype could solve things.  That didn't work.  However, it led me to try various streaming apps (e.g., Portal to the Universe, NPR) and everything was fine-- sound from both sides and remote controls fully functional.
At that point, I was convinced there was something odd going on with the Music app.
    4.  Finally, it occurred to me to try other podcasts-- and even other episodes of the particular podcast.  They all worked fine.
So, it ended up being one particular podcast-- and, while I still do not know why, it means that the earphones, the headphone jack, the iPhones are all in fine shape!  Yay!
In any event, the bottom-line is that it's really smart to consider *all* the variables that could be affecting the situation--especially the most obvious ones that you wouldn't even think about it.  As it turned out, in my case, I had tested the very same podcast on both iPhones, so no wonder I got the very same results!

I think you're right-- however, I always thought that mono recordings played through both ears--always worked that way on my old stereo system!
This podcast does that, too, but only if one pulls the plug out a bit!  That's what's confusing to me.  Why does it change from both ears to only one ear depending on far the plug is pushed in?  (And especially as it behaves opposite what one would expect-- both ears when not plugged in all the way-- only 1 when fully embedded!)

Accidental damage is not covered under the warranty but if possible to reset the screen without causing additional damage, the Apple Store should do this without charging for it.

  • Apple LED 24" Cinema Display audio problem under 10.6.8 (with post fix)

    Hi all,
I'm using an Apple LED 24" Cinema Display with a 2010 MBP 15" and had been using 10.6.8 without problem. After installing the post-fix I now get static noice on (clipping?) when music contains lots of base. If I switch the output to my MBP's built-in speakers then the audio is fine.
Is there any way to un-install the 10.6.8 post-fix?
    Thanks,
    Yanik

Solved the issue. This issue coming up after installing the 10.6.8 supplemental update was just a considence. I ended up tracing the issue back to my Atlona AT-MDP21 Mini-DisplayPort KVM switch and after fiddling with cables the issue went away.

  • Using the 27" Thunderbolt and Apple 24" Cinema LED displays

I hope everything is having a good weekend.  I have been trying to find an answer and no avail I am not able to find any solid answer.
    Setup:
    2011 MacBook Pro 15" (MacBookPro8,2 model)
    27" Apple Thunderbolt Display
    Additional Equipment:
    Apple 30" Cinema HD Display
    Apple 24" LED Cinema Display
Ideally I would like to have all three monitors connected this macbook pro, but I know it may be hard.  At the minimum though I would setting for the 27" and 24" to be the two monitors.  Some time ago, I saw a web posting and a podcast talk about some entity achieving this feat, but it require the Pegasus RAID system.  I have noticed that I cannot directly connect the 24" to the 27" as the result is the 24" has a black screen and the MacBook Pro does not recognize the 24".
Now I have seen products which offer the monitors to be connected using some third party peripherels:
Newer Technology USB to DVI/HTML/VGA display adapter (which uses display link)
Mini Display Port | Thunderbolt +USB to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
Unfortunately the results would mean that my Thunderbolt will not be useful after I connect the 24" since it will not allow any more thunderbolt connections.  That is acceptable, but I will like to hear from anyone who is willing to share their experience.  I cannot find the link to a solution which allow the 24" to be connected to the MacBook Pro thru USB device (siimlar to the display link device).

It appears that a Thunderbolt accessory: "seagate goflex thunderbolt adapter" solves the problem.   Having the seagate device between the two monitors allows the 24" Apple LED Cinema Display to start working.  The solution may not be right for everyone as the adapter is about $179.99 on Amazon.

  • Using Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic on my Macbook

Is it possible to use the remote to control volume on my macbook? I know the mic works but I can't get the remote to. Is it even possible to use the remote?

I have a unibody Macbook with OSX 10.6.1 and it works with my Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic. However, whenever I plug them in to the Macbook it takes up to 10 seconds for the volume and tracking controls to start working on the earphone remote. Also, if there is music playing in iTunes, the audio drops out for about the same amount of time. The hardware buttons on the Macbook also stop functioning during this time. The same behavior occurs when unplugging the earphones.
Basically, it seems like the Macbook is extremely slow when adding / removing the earphones as an audio control device.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Thanks!

  • Out of Frequency Problem with Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display and Mac mini

If a resolution with a horizontal and/or vertical frequency not compatible with your display, in this case an Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display, is selected in the Display preference pane of the Mac OS X 10.4.10 system running on a Mac mini (Early '06), you will recieve a message on your screen about being "out of frequency" and the power management feature will shut down and restart your display repeatedly. The following solution should restore your display to proper function. It may apply to other displays and Macintoshes running Mac OS X, but it has only been tested specially on this setup.
    1. Shut down the Mac mini with the power button (press and hold for 5 seconds)
    2. Start the computer up with the Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 1 (press the power button, insert the disc, hold the C key down until the progress bar starts up)
    3. Click on the language, then select Utilities > Terminal...
    4. Type "cd /" and return
    5. Type "cd Volumes" and return
    6. Type "cd your hard drive name" and return (you need to enclose the hard drive name in double quotes if more than one word)
    7. Type "cd Library" and return
    8. Type "cd Preferences" and return
    9. Type "rm com.apple.windowserver.plist" and return
    10. Type "exit" and return
    11. Quit Terminal
    12. Select Utilities > Startup Disc...
    13. Select the OS on the hard drive and click on Restart button, holding down the Shift key until the progress bar starts.
    14. Log in to the account that had the display problem in Safe Boot mode
    15. In System Preferences select Display, select a resolution with the appropriate frequency, 60 Hz should be fine, then close System Preferences
    16. Restart the computer, log in to the account normally, and the display should be functioning properly.
DO NOT SELECT AN INAPPROPRIATE RESOLUTION/FREQUENCY FOR YOUR DISPLAY IN THE DISPLAY PREFERENCE PANE! BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!
Mac mini (Early '06)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display
Mac mini (Early '06)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display

Just a correction and an elaboration:
It should be Startup Disk... with a k, not a c.
Both the resolution and the frequency must be appropriate for your display to work properly. Check your documentation or the manual information available on your display for the appropriate resolutions/frequencies. Evidently the Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display is considered so old that no allowance was made for it in the Display preference pane of Mac OS X 10.4.10.
Mac mini (Early '06)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

  • HT1620 Is my apple iPad with retina display secure

Does my Apple iPad with Retina Display need Internet Security

Do you want to use good practices?  Sure.  Don't splatter your password all over, use WPA or WPA2 networking, don't leave your iOS device unlocked, set up Find My iPhone, understand what makes a bad password and don't choose them, keep backups either in iCloud or on your Mac or Windows box, etc.
Do you need added iOS software — which does not exist for iOS, and would likely not even be allowed into the App Store for sale given what the anti-malware tools inherently have to do — on your iPad?    Nope.
