Apple TV is not responding

I can see a picture, but nothing happens when I try to use my Apple TV remote. The remote battery is good - it responds by th light on the apple tv flashing but won't do anything to the picture, such as navigate around to settings, Netflix etc. I've tried unplugging everything. I cannot navigate Apple TV at all to get to settings etc, or to reset. I also tried plugging the apple tv directly to my laptop, but cannot find how to get Apple TV in a source list. Where? I am unable to restore. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

Yesterday I purchased a movie on the Apple TV and then tried to sync it back to my Macintosh and got the error "Apple TV is not responding. Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689." Having recently upgraded Lion to 10.7.3 I do not know if the root cause of this problem is Lion 10.7.3 or iTunes 10.5.3.
I first verified that the Apple TV was working fine and then for good measure unplugged it and re-plugged it and it came up fine. It is connected via Ethernet, so I knew that the wireless network could not be the source of the problem. I hadn't changed any security settings on my Mac recently, but to verify that the Firewall settings were not the problem I turned off the Firewall, and that still did not resolve the problem.
Finally I was able to solve the problem from within iTunes by doing the following:
- In iTunes right-click on the Apple TV icon in the sidebar under DEVICES to display the context menu.
- In the context menu there should be an option to Transfer Purchases from "Apple TV". Select that option.
- The recently purchased content on the ATV will then be transferred to the Macintosh. And after that you will be able to sync content back to the Apple TV again.

FCS 3 is working as usual for me, although FCP did re-profile the RT Extreme settings and took a couple of seconds longer to start up the first time after updating. What else have you installed or updated?
I was also on the 10.7.3 beta. It did not change anything in the behaviour of FCS 3 there either.

Unplug it from power, wait 10-15 seconds and plug it back in.
If it does not power up properly at that point, restore it via iTunes on the computer.

In that case if you've already tried unplugging from power, waiting for a minute or so and restarting and nothing helps, you probably ned to factory restore via iTunes:

I only synch and do not stream off of my 1st Gen AppleTV
I will try with ethernet but will be a pain in the butt if i can not fix it with wifi for long term fix
I may end up trying to do a named IP address vs DHCP for this appleTV (not sure if i can do both and do not want to remove DHCP as i have a bunch of sensors and other devices that I prefer to dynamically add to the network via DHCP vs. assign each one
Will keep working on other fix options (factory reset, etc.)

My apple TV is not responding, the light is not blinking and the remote is not working, I've tried to reset apple tv and tried to pair/unpair my remote. I think I would be inclined to try restoring the Apple TV at the stage.

For warranty work it depends on where you purchased it. Some resellers have a limited time for when it can be returned and after that you have to go to the manufacturer.

After setting up email account the apple imap does not respond.

Able to get on the internet with no problem but when I try to set up an email account no matter whether yahoo or gmail I get this message. "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field. I have done this numerous times with no success. I deleted all email accounts since they did not work and still have had no success. The problem has to be with this ipad. The model number is MB293LL, Serial # V50445YCZ39 VERSION: 3.2.2(7B500). All pertinent information has been put in properly but the unit still is unable to send or receive any email. I am wondering if I should reset the entire unit back to factory specs etc. The form below this asked for an operating system and I put Vista in due to the fact that this system was given to me by someone that I know had Windows Vista on their home computer. If I can change it I would. I just do not know how at present that is why I am coming to this community. Thanks for any help.

I am trying to set up a basic email account through the settings email,contacts etc button on the ipad. When the list of servers comes up I pick yahoo and fill in the pertinent info as far as the correct email address and password. When I try to save it the ipad is the thing that comes up with this message "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. I have no idea where or how it comes up with this but that is what appears when I try to save the account information it request. The info that JimHdk sent does not work either. Thanks for any help.

My Apple TV was working as of two days ago, last night I tried to watch a movie thru Apple TV, not responding, this morning I tried again, same result, so what I did I was watching a movie on my IPad and then I airplay to the TV, and I was getting audio, but no video...

Have you tried unplugging the power on the apple tv? If not, try it, leave unplugged for about ten seconds, and then plug it in again. They can be glitchy sometimes, and this often solves my problem.

Apple tv 2 not responding after update

I restored with a micro USB cable and still, when I connect to the TV, I'm stuck on the "choose your language" screen, and the unit does not respond to any of my remotes. (Batteries are fine.)

Hmm, I'd unplug from mains restart and try again.
If no joy, restore the unit via itunes again.
If that doesn't fix it I guess it's back to Apple with the unit.

Try holding menu and left arrow buttons TOGETHER for 6 seconds on the remote.

Apple TV 2 not responding

When I boot up my apple TV 2 it says it is trying to set the date and then it goes right to my picture slid show and it doesnt respond to the remote. Nothing is working.

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Also try restarting the router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the above, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.
