Apple TV problems and a workable solution
I recently bought an Apple TV from an Apple shop in Manchester. The bloke told me in the shop that it was possible for me to use my Apple TV upstairs, to navigate my iTunes library whilst not having to sync the entire content.
However, once I set it up I found I had no end of problems. Once I'd linked it with my iTunes (straight forward enough), there was no content found once I tried to play anything. I decided to ring customer support, and after a lengthy call, I was told that I can stream music by pushing it from my Mac mini but not navigate the content ala Front Row. The only alternative was to sync. Since my library was huge, and hard drive so small, this wasn't a graceful solution.
After that dissappointment I did a little digging online, and found that if you have the Apple TV in sync mode, anything that hasn't been synced can be accessed through streaming. So I gave this a go, selecting sync, then pressing the cross next to the syncing progress bar. I was given the error message a lot of people seem to be getting, something about firewall settings and port 3869 or something. Still no joy, apparently something was interfering with the wireless connection between the two.
I eventually decided to try using a long ethernet cable between the two (not ideal, but a workable solution), and again clicked sync, then the cross.
Now I went to the Apple TV, and sure enough, even though my Apple TV hard drive was empty, I found that I could now navigate my entire library on the Apple TV as if it was front row. This was something I was told was not possible to do by the customer supports so called 'expert'.
Apologize for the long winded post, I hope this helps anybody elsy with similer issues.

Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Just wondered if anyone else is experiencing the following problem and knows a solution. I know a few friends who are also having the issue so its obviously something wrong with IOS7.
Basically I have an iphone 4 and upgraded to v7 and most recently v7.0.2. When I am on calls the phone started to beep and vibrate and sometimes change the call to speaker. It seems to be that the screen is sometimes active whilst on calls and so my ear is actually pressing the buttons and hitting numbers or changing it to speaker phone. It has also cancelled a call a few times.
This is extremely annoying and makes every call a worry.

I am unable to export my contacts from my iPhone 4 to the hands free unit on my Honda Civic VTI-LN. Has anybody had this problem and found a solution.
Strange that your dealer could not help.
When my car was in for its 6 month service in July/August I mentioned this problem to the dealer service dept (Northway Honda, Bundoora, Vic)
The person booking the car in told me an update to the software was needed and that they would do the update.
I don't know if it was free as there was no specific listing of a software update on the invoice - just a lot of item numbers.

On the US keyboard, it's option + 3.
However, when I try to enter that combination in Mail 4.4 or the Safari 5.0.5 browser, it is apparently has some reserved function and opens another window. It does seem to produce the correct character in Firefox 4.01
If possible, I'd suggest changing the WiFi password so that it does not included any 'reserved' keystrokes. -
What do I do if I can't upload photos into my photobook? Every time that I try, the upload starts but then stops. Then the only options I have are to cancel or retry. Has anyone else had this problem and how have they solved it?
I solved the problem. Had nothing to do with Mac or iphoto. Problem must be my the internet connection to my provider.
Upload at my office worked without any problem. One problem solved, now i am aware with a lot of discussions with my providers helpdesk ;-) -

Wifi problem and Lion (my solution)
Hi guys
Like so many other people, I've had problems with my wifi network at home after upgrading to Lion.
My mbp could'nt couldn't detect my wifi network (wpa-psk/AES. No SSID broadcast). My solution was to change the broadcasting channel from 13 to 8. Works 100% now.
(I could actually find and connect to my network, but only after connecting to a neighbors insecure access point, (connected to the same router as my AP(router) located in the buildings basement). My wifi would pop up after only a few seconds of being connected to my neighbors AP, and only then)
After having changed the channel, I connect instantly to my own AP every time.
MortenI called into apple care and the rep offered a solution the problem which worked perfectly.
He mentioned that 7.1 would fix the issue for new users going forward.
Steps to Fix
1. Open Network Preferences
2. Click Advanced
3. Remove ALL of the Preferred Networks (should be completely empty when completed)
4. Ensure that Remember Networks is checked
5. Click OK
6. Select your network in the Network Name dropdown menu
7. Ensure that Ask to join networks is checked
8. click Apply
9. Restart your computer
at this point you should be good to go! -
Getting a "sticky" for all LP8 problems and work arounds/solutions?
Any chance we could get a sticky on this? It would be a lot faster than going thru the "Search Forum" option.

RobWe asked for that in the L7 forum for years and got little in terms of a response (see below). And definitely no sticky!
Sure, there are a few knowledge base documents that describe issues with L8, but in general, acknowledging known problems is not something Apple does, unfortunately. How do I know this? Well, experience. And also, from what they have to say about their software in the Getting Started guide:
"Experience has shown that such system _problems are rarely caused by a defect in Apple programs or hardware products_. All Apple hardware and software is _rigorously tested_ by a diverse range of musicians and studio users, from a variety of fields and uses, who look for any faults or problems.

Now... there is some kind of "tips" board somewhere amongst Apple's Discussion Forums. When the subject of having a sticky came up once on the L7 board a while ago, a mod suggested that I submit tips/workarounds for inclusion on that board. I checked it out and it's a freekin' nightmare to find anything. And "submitting" tips means that someone has to approve it, and who knows if that person would be Logic-savvy or not. 10.10.3 causing Apple Mouse problems and bring back iPhoto
I recently purchased an Apple Mouse to replace my Rocksole Magic Mouse. Since updating to 10.10.3 yesterday, my button scrolls down but not up. I have opened preferences and tried all settings for the button. Nothing helps. The old mouse works fine. I thought that I would try the Apple mouse because I like the feel better.
Seeing all the other problems with ---.3, I fear that Apple is getting like Microsquash!!!! Does anyone else have this problem, or a fix, other than going back to my old mouse?
PS: I hate "Photos", bring back iPhoto!Clicking and unclicking did the trick, thanks
Also I discovered that iPhoto is still on my mac, but the photo library has changed to the new one, which has to be converted back.

Hello, I have Airport Express installed on my PC which runs XP. When I play my library through iTunes after about 2 hours Airport quits and I have to log out and restart my computer - very frustrating. Don't know if it is overheating but if anyone can make any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

MurrayMaybe Mail's message index is corrupt. The following procedure is safe to try. Its only deleterious effect is that windows you left open in Mail at step 1 won't reopen automatically in step 4.
1. Quit Mail.
2. Browse to ~/Library/Mail.
3. Move "Envelope Index" to your desktop.
4. Launch Mail.
Mail will rebuild its index before it opens any windows. It may take a few minutes to rebuild. Be patient!
The new index is likely to be a different size than the old one, usually smaller.
Only the Message Viewer window will open--not any other windows you may have left open when Mail quit.
Be sure your mail folders are there and have their messages. They always are there, but the prudent check anyway.
Be sure you can send and receive mail. This always works, too.
After you have done the above, trash the old Envelope Index that you saved on your desktop. It is never better than the new one, and as time goes on, it becomes more and more out of synch with your mail folders, so you won't want to put it back in Library.
If Mail doesn't crash for a week or two, you probably fixed the problem. If not, you at least freed up some disk space.
Let us all know whether and how you solved your problem. -
