Applescript for printing pdf to printer

Anyone that can help me with this:
I need to print a pdf file to a printer from filemaker (applescript i guess)
The filemaker records holds all information needed:
The filename and the path to the pdf file
The number of copies needed
The printer to send it to (different because of duplex simplex)
Anyone who have a script i can implement ?

Assuming you can get the data out of Filemaker (I don't use Filemaker so my example might not be right), it's pretty easy to print PDF files. This should get you started:
tell application "FileMaker Pro"
tell current record
-- the syntax here might not be right!
set theJob to contents of cell "Job"
set thePrinter to contents of cell "printer"
end tell
end tell
tell application "Printer Setup Utility"
set current printer to thePrinter
open alias theJob
end tell
The first part of the script extracts the data from Filemaker (check this, please), then calls Printer Setup Utility to change the current printer to the printer named in thePrinter (which should be the printer name as defined in Printer Setup, and it opens the PDF file (assuming that 'theJob' is a full path to the file itself.
For the number of copies element it's probably easiest to just wrap the 'open' command in a repeat n times block. There is also a print command in Printer Setup which takes an optional with properties but couldn't get it to work in my quick test here.

  • InDesign CS3 Print PDF (page printed shifted 0.125 downward)

    Hi,
I'm currently using CS3. Everytime I print the booklet/catalog to pdf file, the whole document seems to be shifted down .125in in the printed pdf file. The files looks fine when I view in preview mode in InDesign, it only does it when I print pdf. Does anyone have solutions to the problem?
    Heidi

Looking at the print dialogs, it appears to me that the problem is you are trying to print bleeds on the same size sheet as the document page.
What you are seeing in the preview is the result of selecting "upper left" positioning and including the bleed, which is pushing the page image down and to the right by the amount of the bleed. You need to print bleeds on oversize stock and trim. To do that accurately you'll want to include trim marks, too. If printing two sides it's also essential to set the positioning to centered (and don't even try this on an inkjet printer with uneven non-printing margins). Don't expect miracles from digital printers for side-to-side position registration on two sided prints. They just aren't that accurate.
I'm not familiar with your Sharp printer, but my guess is that if you have a border on the right side of the print it's because of the non-imaging area on the page (only a few printers are capable of printing all the way to the edge, and, as far as I know, they scale the image to do so, and would not be a good way to print books with bleeds).
That doesn't answer the question of why you'd have a white edge printing to PDF. The answer to that seems to be in the Acrobat display settings. In Acrobat, Edit > Preferences > Page Display and uncheck the box for "Use 2D Graphics Acceleration" and I think the white line will disappear.

  • Change default location for adobe pdf 7 printer

    Hi,
Can i change the default location for my Adobe PDF printer?
i'm using QXP 7 and when printing i select Adobe PDF 7 and the same ppd. Now when clicked on print, it does not give the option to select the location. Is there any setting to change the location or tell the printer to prompt for the location?
    thanks.

  • How to fill 8.5 x 11 sheet when printing PDF in Print View Mode

I need to print portions of a PDF file (converted from a 24 x 36 drawing sheet file) so that it prints on a 8.5 x  11 sheet of paper to some architectural scale (i.e. 1/8" = 1 foot). On the old (4:3) LCD monitor this was not a problem...I would select a zoom scale to fill the sheet as much as possible and print in landscape orientation, and that would fill the sheet with a printed portion of a drawing to a scale as large as possible and still be readable ( I am trying to get as much of the 24 x 36 original on one 8.5 x 11 as possible).
However with my new laptop and its widescreen (16:9) display, doing this leaves a substantial amount of sheet blank, and I am forced to do a work-around by connecting the old monitor to the laptop.
Is there a solution to this?

You don't select a page size when exporting to PDF, but you can add the crop marks in the export dialog.
Acrobat and Reader will both automatically center the PDF when it is printed, but it's up to the print shop what size paper they use. Make sure they don't scale the print to fit the sheet.

  • HP laserjet 1536dnf will not print pdf's

My laser jet 1536dnf will not print pdfs.  Prints everything else.  I have adobe acrobat 9.  I have unistalled the driver/software for the printer and reinstalled.  Still not fixed.  When I pull up the pdf and select print, then hit ok, nothing happens.  However, I can print pdfs to the other printer connected to my computer.  This logically brings the conclusion that the issue is with the laser jet driver.  Does anyone have a clue as to how to fix this?

Hi , I see that you are having issues printing PDF documents, just from the Laserjet M1536dnf printer. I will certainly do my best to help you. Try printing a page from the printer's User Guide, to see if you have the same results. LASERJET PRO M1530.Let me know the results. Print the PDF as an image: Open the original PDF file, if necessary.Click File, and then click Print, or click the Print icon. The Print window opens.Click Advanced. The Advanced Print Setup window opens.Select the Print As Image checkbox, change any other settings as desired, and then click OK.On the Print window, click OK again to begin printing.Run the Adobe updates. • How to read tags from pdf to print in different printers (PCL or PS)

Hello from Spain.. I would apreciate some help who to read tags from pdf to discriminate PDF Production tag for send print PDF to printer job using driver PCL or PS. I get trubles when print PDFs files made by PDFcreator (Ghostscript, intermediate PDF from PS) in PCL job printer. I need to eval tags from PDF for send command line os javascript inside Adobe Acrobat to print in the correct job printer: PCL or PS...
    Thanks.

As noted you cannot access the "Tag" of a PDF but you can access the meta data of a PDF and one of the items recorded in the meta data is the "producer". This meta data tag is supposed contain the name of the program that produced the PDF. One can access this through the "info" property or the "metadata" property of the doc object.
    var cProducer = this.info.Producer; // get the producer application for this PDF;
    console.show();
    console.clear();
    console.println("This PDF was created by " + cProducer);
Be aware that the user can easily modify the Producer information with Acrobat, JavaScript, or other application after the PDF has been created.

  • Java Applet - Printing Pdf Files

    Hi
Can anyone suggest me some libraries to print pdfs using Java Applets. I have tried using the SmartJPrint library but its giving me error when I try printing pdfs using applets.
    Thanks
    nikhil

SmartJPrint web applets have changed recently and works to be fine every time. You might try these links for printing of existing pdf, pdf viewing, pdf print, pdf silent printing from a command line or silently printing a pdf from a browser page.

Demo that print a PDF from a browser page silently.
[This demo printing control parameters as part of the PDF url. Interestingly this pdf print demo from browser works for a remote PDF URL that dynamically generate a PDF and then prints to the printer. In this demo you have the option to enter your URL that is either a PDF or a PDF generating URL that eventually generates a PDF and then prints.]

[PDF print silently or using user choice dialog from the applet. PDF printing parameters such as printer name, auto page size detection, paper size selection, fit to page etc. are made as choice. This demo too print a PDF or more than one PDF as a batch pdf print. You have chice to submit the pdf print job as a separate print job or as one pdf print job.]

These two links are opening their PDF viewer applet for viewing your local or remote PDF files.

I have a brochure created for print in InDesign. I need to create a PDF for the web, that would be a link to download and print on a home printer. How do I accomplish this?

export smallest size or take the print PDF in to Acrobat and reduce the size there.

  • How to create a PDF that prints at actual size for all printers

I create printable educational products for teachers and homeschoolers.  I need to be able to make some printable PDFs that have cards set to a specific dimension, say 3" x 3".  When I create PDFs in InDesign and print them, the printer tends to shrink the PDF down.  This happens even when I set the Page Scaling to None.  But regardless of what my printer does, I would like to be able to create PDFs that print at actual size for anyone who purchases my products.  How can this be done?  Can I change the settings when I create the PDF?  Do I need to includes special instructions with my products?  Thanks so much for your help.

You can specify the printing process in the PDF for Acrobat and Reader, open the PDF in Acrobat > file properties (right mouse click on the page) and in the extended tab (the most right tab) you can set printing not to scale for that PDF as default setting.

  • A solution for batch print PDF documents

    Dear,
I use a command line to auto print some PDF documents as below:
       C:\>AcroRd32.exe /h /t PDF_file_name printer_name
       the printing is no problem.
But when I use the command line to print a large number of PDF files, there are a problem, for example:
There are 3 PDFs that I want to print, they are 1.pdf, 2.pdf and 3.pdf
I sent command one by one like below.
      C:\>AcroRd32.exe /h /t 1.pdf printer_name
      C:\>AcroRd32.exe /h /t 2.pdf printer_name
      C:\>AcroRd32.exe /h /t 3.pdf printer_name
But the hard copy from the print are:
      first print: 1.pdf
      2nd print: 3.pdf
      3rd print:  2.pdf
what can I do for this case, I want to get the output seq. will be 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf.
      Thanks.

KingPool's snarky response notwithstanding (he appears to have some financial interest in “pushing” sales of PrimoPDF), your need is real and your observations do correspond to the reality of printing. The fact is that when you use spooling under Windows, the application program actually can complete spooling of the file to the printer before that spooled output is ready to be actually transmitted to the device. The print process is a multiple step, asynchronous process.
To absolutely force printing in an exact order as per your scenario, go to the printer's Properties and select the Advanced tab. The printer is probably currently set to Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster with either the Start printing immediately or the Start printing after last page is spooled option selected. Change that to the Print directly to the printer option and then press OK. This will force printing in the order that you specify. Note however, that this forces Reader to wait as the document is fully printed and then terminate. You should reset that spooling option when you are done with this batch printing operation to regain system performance.
Alternatively, another approach you could try would be to hold the particular print queue before running your commands. Then, after ascertaining that all the print jobs are on the queue and ready to be printed, release the queue. The jobs should print in the order queued. And finally, if there still is a mis-ordering of the jobs, after holding the entire queue, put a hold on all the jobs, release the printer queue, and then release the jobs in desired order.

  • Cocoon - Tomcat - APEX for FOP PDF printing

I'm trying to setup Cocoon & Tomcat with APEX 4.1 for doing PDF printing of some reports.
    I'm using Linux 64bit, Tomcat 7.0.22, Cocoon 2.1.11, and JDK (build 1.6.0_24-b07).
I followed Carl Backstrom's very helpful [blog entry|http://carlback.blogspot.com/2007/03/apex-cocoon-pdf-and-more.html] about using cocoon and tomcat to produce PDF reports through APEX. However, I must just be missing something, because it's not working at all for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions about getting this to work? Whenever, I attempt to hit the cocoon site (localhost:8080/cocoon/), I receive the following error:
"org.apache.cocoon.ResourceNotFoundException: No pipeline matched request: index.html"
Whenever I attempt to download a PDF report, I receive this error:
"Adobe reader cannot open 'reportname.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged."
If you have this configuration (cocoon, tomcat, APEX, PDF printing) working, I'd greatly appreciate it if you shared any URLs or tips you have in getting this setup. I understand why folks fork out the big $ for BI Publisher, but that's not an option for me.
    Many thanks,
    Reid

In the Tomcat Manager app, it shows that cocoon is deployed and running.
I was able to reload it as well:
"OK - Reloaded application at context path /cocoon"
I see this in the Tomcat log:
"SEVERE: The web application [cocoon] appears to have started a thread named [HSQLDB Timer @6b033450] but has failed to stop it. This is very likely to create a memory leak."
