Applescript open file in hidden folders

When a folder is made visable and finder is reset then activating applescript to open file in folder, the once hidden folder but now visable in finder doesn't appear.
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles False"
-- kill Finder to make the changes active
do shell script "killall Finder"
then activate Applescript Editor and open file and the folder but folder will not appear.

Aha, this seems to work, but I'm not sure why:
set the_file to (choose file) as text
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"
open file the_file
end tell

Has there been some change in the way Photoshop (and ID for that matter) reference files? The following script fragment works perfectly for CS4:
set the_file to choose file
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS4"
open the_file
end tell
But the CS5 version returns "Adobe Photoshop CS5 got an error: File some object wasn’t found."
I've tried 'open file the_file' and 'open alias the_file' without success (always had trouble understanding these things anyway!)
Can anyone suggest the solution? I've got a load of tried and trusted scripts which have just stopped working!

Image Sequences and Batch Processing: Can opening files from different folders as image sequences be set up as an action for batch processing?

I have an ongoing series of tasks that necessitates opening the contents of a series of folders as image sequences.
I'm used to setting up some fairly complex actions, including ones that are intended to be applied to all of the contents of materials in various subfolders, but for some reason I cannot get an Open-with-Image-Sequence-Checked action to set up in a way that will batch process correctly.
Complicating matters is that the file prefixes (i.e., the letters before the sequential numbers) and the folders will always have different names from the last time the process had to be carried out.
The steps I would like the action to carry out would be the following:
1. Open Subfolder 1 - that is, Photoshop shouldn't be looking for a specific folder. It's just *any* subfolder to the current parent folder.
2. Select first file in sequenced set of files.
3. Open as an image sequence.
4. Open Subfolder 2.
5. Select first file in sequenced set of files.
6. Open as an image sequence.
...rinse and repeat until Photoshop runs out of subfolders to check.
Am I asking the impossible?

Opening files/folders

Just recently, I am not able to use the mouse to open files and/or folders. Once the folder is highlighted, I have to go to file>open. How can I open things with the mouse again?

While there might be other possible causes for this, the first thing I would check would be to go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse, Mouse (tab).
Make sure the primary mouse button is set to "left".
Also make sure that the Double-Click speed is somewhere in the middle of the slider.

Can't hide Hidden folders and files.

Hi All,
This past weekend I transferred my OS and apps to a newly installed SSD drive.
During the process I had to move some files around in order to get The OS and Apps on the SSD.
I used a technique that utilizes the Terminal and the chflags command.
My issue is now I can not hide the files and folders that are usually hidden.
I can't remember the exact method I used to unhide hidden folders and files. I can't even find a reference to it in my web browsers history.
I have searched on the web for solutions along these lines:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean FALSE ; killall Finder
chflags hidden
sudo chflags hidden
But none of these approaches have worked.
I have downloaded Onyx, TinkerTool and Show Hide Invisible Files.
I have used them as best I understand to hide the normally hidden files and folders, but nothing has worked.
Any Command Line gurus out there have any suggestions?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Hidden folders and files with random character filenames

Recently I noticed several hidden folders with random character names and each of those folders has 5 files in them with randomly named files. These are tiff, png, bmp, and docx files. I copied the folder to virtual machine removed from the network to inspect them, but they can not be opened as it says files appears damaged or corrupt. They appear to be benign as I ran two full system virus scans (including malwarebytes), but really bothers me how they got there in the first place. The owner says local administrators. They were found on the root of the C: drive and in documents, pictures, music, and video of the user profile. I attached a picture to help understand what they look. They are different than other examples I have seen when I attempted to google my answer. Thanks in advance!

MY system folder, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac) How do I remove them

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac). For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always. I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

My external hard drive is 'seen' by my iMac and I can go into the Finder and open files and folders. I am using the hard drive for Time Machine back up. However Time Machine says it can't find the drive. Same thing has happened with Final Cut Express.

You cannot have time machine backups on your hard drive if you intend to use it in FCPX.

Opened file content left be hidden or invisible, only on a specific workstation. Maybe a setting mistake!

The content of the FM12 file stay hidden after opening of the file! This mistake occur on each file my employeer like to open, all other employeers can open the files correctly. I am not sure what the problem is, maybe a setting problem but the stupid thing is during change of current view, for example from authoring to proof, the content of the file will shown for a short moment up to the "view chance checkbox" will confirmed. This is not understandable and I need help!

How can I OPEN files I just downloaded? They're on the DOWNLOADS screen of Firefox but I can't open them even after double-clicking? And they're not on the FOLDERS as well. I tried RIGHT-CLICK and the "open dowloading folder" or something does not work! P

How can I open files in folders on iCloud Drive on my iOS8 device?

Have created folders and moved parts of my documents and pdf files to iCloud Drive on my MAC (Yosemite).
I can see the folders on my iOS device in Manage my iCloud, I can delete the folders and documents but HOW can I open the documents?
On Apples homepage I can see a simliar layout as when I log in to iCloud.com with my folders etc. plus the Apple Pages folders.
But where on my iPad / iPhone do I navigate to find the same?
Tried to login to iCloud.com on Safari on my iPad but it did not show my folders/files on iCloud Drive.

So what is the point of upgrading to iCloud Drive when there is no "Drive" on your iOs 8 device? I also added a new folder through Safari on desktop- as instructed by Apple- and I have no way of accessing it on the iPhone! This seems pretty bogus and a huge waste of time!
And... If Apple was developing an app for the "Drive" why have us upgrade to something you have no way of using?
And... I did try opening files through apps that allow it but I do not see anything.
And... Pages docs do NOT show in the "Drive" on Safari.

The red exclamation mark indicates that itunes cannot find your files.
Are the music files still on your harddrive. Look n Finder
Username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media
If the files are there then keep the option key pressed and open iTunes. A dialog box will open asking you to choose your library. Select Choose and then navigate to the Music/iTunes Folder and click OK

Deleting hidden folders and console.log files

I have heard that OS X logs activity of various programs and Applications in hidden folders/files.
Can someone please tell me how to view and delete this information in the hidden folder(s) without compromising my OS X system?
Also, how do I delete information in the console.log folders?

The invisible files & folders are hidden for a reason!
If you don't know exactly what you are doing, you shouldn't muck about with them!
The Mac OS X is very good at protecting us from being our own worst enemy.
Your Mac runs Cron Scripts daily, weekly, & monthly, if the Mac is left on 24/7.
If you prefer, you may also choose to run them manually.

I put my Display to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity, but never Sleep or seldom Shutdown My iMac, and my Console folder, within the Logs folder is only 276 KB.

Having trouble opening files & folders through file open .

We have three Macs, 1 new Mac Pro w/ 2 hard drives (OS 10.5) and 2 G4's (OS 10.4), we use the Mac Pro to store all the customers files and the other two Macs work off the Mac Pro through our company network. The one G4 has no problem but the other G4 has problems opening files/folder through file-open in programs. If you go to file open and open a folder instead of opening up it toggles down into a list so you can never get to the file you want to open or save a file in the correct folder. Please help!

I started having the exact same problem yesterday. It has happened to me a little less than 2 years ago on this same machine (which was very new at the time). I was hoping to come here and find an easier solution than I resorted to in the past. Before I had to completely reformat my computer to get it to work properly again.
For me, the first time this problem happened was when I was working on a job that is stored on our company server. The server went down while the file was open and I was kicked off and everything locked up. When I tried to get out of the file nothing happened and I had to force quit. When it got back up, I logged back onto the server and everything seemed fine until trying to open, save as or place a file. Then I see what you see, open a folder and rather than going inside the folder, I get the turn down arrow or I just see the same list of folders and cannot get into the final folder where the art resides that I wish to place (or attach in an email, etc.)
I don't know how it happened yesterday. It could have actually happened on Friday night. Our company runs 3 shifts and it may have happened on 2nd shift Friday night or on 3rd shift Sunday night / Monday morning. I discovered it yesterday afternoon.
If anyone has a better solution than reformatting, that would be GREAT! I have done the disk utility checking and fixing permissions and that didn't work the first time or today either. Thanks for any info!

Sherlock - Can't open files - Invisible Folders?

Not sure if it's related or not, but ever since I installed Tiger, my Sherlock for OS9 is messed up. Everytime I search for something, I can't open any seach results.....error says that they are in Invisible Folders. My computer at home is having the same problem. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I still use OS9 at work until we can upgrade our hardware, and it's taking me tons of extra time to open files without just double-clicking in Sherlock.

I would try the usual first trouble-shooting steps on the X and 9 sides.
In Mac OS 9 (if you are booting directly to 9), do the rebuild desktop file routine by holding down the Option and Command (Apple) keys during startup until prompted to confirm. If you are running 9 under Classic only, the equivalent action is in the Classic panel in System Preferences, in the Advanced tab (button for Rebuild Desktop).
In Mac OS X, run Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions. Also, I notice a command in the Disk Utility menu that is not on the window. In the Menu under File, there is a choice called "Fix OS 9 Permissions." I've never used that command, but it sounds like it might be relevant to your situation.
