Applet crossdomain timeout

Hi,
I getting some problems deploying an unsigned applet that use JavaScript integration and sockets, the applet is a chat client demo.
https://demo.zeroc.com/chat/applet/
I have added crossdomain.xml file
https://demo.zeroc.com/chat/applet/crossdomain.xml
https://demo.zeroc.com/crossdomain.xml
Are this both necessary?
Seems that the applet try to access crossdomain file in the ip of my local computer
network: Connecting http://192.168.50.2/crossdomain.xml with proxy=DIRECT
network: Connecting socket://192.168.50.2:80 with proxy=DIRECT
Any ideas what could cause that? to be clear this is while accessing the applet in https://demo.zeroc.com/chat/applet/index.html and 192.168.50.2 is the ip of the compunter running the web browser. The second time i try to run it success
See the java console output.

  • NetworkManager timeouts and can't connect

    Hello,
    I have a fresh install of Arch and I'm not succeeding in connecting with Network Manager. I followed the Wiki article, but everytime I run NetworkManager (either through applet or command line), it fails.
    $ nmcli d wifi connect myNetwork
    Error: Timeout 90 sec expired
    (I get prompted for password a few times)
    I checked the general troubleshooting but nothing there seemed to relate to my problem. I'm able to connect with netctl (through wifi-menu), though, which is what I'm using to post here.

    If you're not using a DE or other packages that require it, you might consider chucking NetworkManager.
    I know this isn't really an answer to the question you're asking, but I offer it because I had several networks at my office that I could never connect to with NetworkManager. However, once I switched to connman I haven't had any problems since. Connman doesn't offer an official applet or integration on the level of NetworkManager, but it's much lighter and faster and isn't too hard to configure. The connman wiki article doesn't offer much; I suggest looking at the source's configuration doc for specifics on setting up networks. I'm using qconnman-ui and it seems to work well.

  • Signed applet don't work on XP

    Hi,
    I'am currently working on a point-of-sale (POS) using windows XP/Firefox and a linux apache/jboss server.
    I have developed a dynamic windows library in order to use an industrial printer connected to the POS to perform some printing without confirmation of the customer.
    The POS is under Windows XP SP2 and use Firefox 2.0.0.11/JRE 1.5.0.14.
    This dll is used by a signed applet located on the apache/jboss server.
    The applet is correctly downloaded by the client, but normally i have to wait for the certicat authentification windows appearing and for confirming that i want execute the applet. And instead i have a java exception :

    Ok I have found my problem :
    On every web pages, we have defined some inactivity timeouts.
    On my own server I have disabled these timeouts but not on the distant timeout.
    And it seems that the timeout (defined in javascript ont he web pages : 3s) has a very bad influence on the launching of my applet ... only with firefox (with IE and Opera no problem)
    My problem is anwsered but the problem keep alive for firefox ...

  • Signed, cached JNLP applet doesn't start when updating from 1.6 to 1.7

    Hi, yesterdays forced upgrade from Java6 to Java7 uncovered a nasty surprise for us:
    We're running a game client through JNLP embedded in the browser using signed all-permission jars. The certificate is definitely valid and hasn't timed out.
    When upgrading from 1.6 to 1.7 the applet won't start because of a supossed permission violation for the cached jars. Web start thinks that the jars in the cache are not signed (although they are).
    Deleting the applet cache through the control panel, or deploying a new version of the applet both solves the problem as then the cached version will be overwritten with a newly downloaded version, and everything works fine from then on until switching back to 1.6 again.
    Are 1.6 vs. 1.7 cached, signed jars not compatible? Something to do with pre-validation? Wouldn't it be a good idea to completely invalidate the applet cache in the JRE installer? Is this a bug on the JRE side, or are we somehow not using JNLP the right way (we're running the game for 2 years now, and a couple of million players have played the game since then on JRE6, so I assume we're using JNLP basically the right way).
    Also, early JRE7 preview versions didn't seem to have this problem, I remember testing JRE7 intensively a few months back without any problems, however I'm not sure whether the cache remained intact when installing the preview JRE7 runtime.
    Here are the console traces, please excuse the German, hopefully it's still clear what happens.
    Oops, unfortunately I can only send 30k characters per post. I'd be happy to send you more traces, and additional information. Thanks in advance :)
    Here's a trace when going from 1.6 to 1.7 with the failed permission validation:

    Wouldn't it be a good idea to completely invalidate the applet cache in the JRE installer?Yes, I guess it should be an option for user of the app on first start after upgrade, not for the JRE installer. There are many large applications that users would want to avoid re-download.
    From the log, there is some hidden exception during first launch. The best way to proceed is to file a bug, including some guest/debugging access to the game.

  • Applet is not working properly on windows 7 with java update 23

    I am using applet in web application to serve as Image Viewer.
    Problem Description :
    1.Client machine configuration: Windows 7, java update 23 , IE8
    2.When my web application is not secure (i.e. accessible via HTTP), applet is
    able to download image from server.
    3.But when my web application is secure (i.e. accessible via HTTPS), applet
    is unable to download image from server.
    4.When applet try to download image using HTTPS, somehow it takes it as
    crossdomain access.
    5.When Client machine has Windows vista or Windows xp OS no such problem
    is there, applet works fine.
    Note : Applet method to download image is called from javascript.

    Thanks for the response. But I don't think the problem is due to Protocol relative URLs. This seems to be a permissions issue.So is the non Protocol relative URLs issue!

    But this is only in Windows 7 machines. In Windows XP it is working fine.Windows 7 is much more fussy than XP about permissions. I can't make you investigate the Protocol relative URLs issue but surely it must be worth spending some time on it.

  • Need help with applet related problems

    First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum. I usually can solve my problems google-ing around, but this time I just ran out of ideas.
    I'm trying to develop a jni applet that can run native code for performance. I used netbeans so far and the applet works great when run from within the ide. At some point a managed to make the applet run inside firefox and iexplore, however somehow i screwed something up and now i can't make it run anymore. I don't really know what i did but i think it may be related to these lines in the console since everything up until awt works fine in the applet:
    basic: JNLP2ClassLoader.findLibrary: Looking up native library: jawt.dll
    network: Looking up native library in: C:\Users\Gladiator\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\10\1082924a-7851bf5e-n\jawt.dll
    basic: Native library jawt.dll not found
    Ofc i may be wrong.
    This also my be a local problem because a friend of mine tried the applet himself and said it's working.
    All the jars are selfsigned.
    below i posted the console output in case you want to take a look. Also I am interested about the "try again.." messages that seem to pop over and over again.

    I am sorry for bold, i came here to ask for help. I used bold to differentiate output from my questions since i couldn't find tags.
    I already validated jnlp using JaNeLA and got only optimization suggestions.
    As I said in first post, this works for a friend of mine, so it's possible a local issue with my java or something ...
    Also i reinstalled jre/jdk 7.0, then uninstalled and installed latest jre/jdk 6.
    Hope I didn't leave a bad impression, i just want help.

  • Redirection to JSP page from Applet not working...

    Hello,
    I have some JSP pages that obtain information and set session variables. Once they have gotten the information, they call an applet to perform some processing, then the applet redirects back to the calling page. My problem is that when the applet redirects using
    getAppletContext().showDocument(reportJspUrl, "_self");
    it seems to be unable to see the session variables that I set in the beginning - consequently I am getting a faulty session timeout error. Has anyone seen this problem? I don't understand why it is happening. It seems that when the applet causes the page to be shown, the page should be able to see the session since it is in the same browser, even in the same frame of the browser.
    Thank you for your help in advance.
    Ali

    Have you tried getting the session in the jsp with req.getSession(false) and confirming that the session returned is not null.

  • BigIP F5 : changing IP leads to cache invalidated and redownload of applet jars

    Hello all,
    In short, I'm trying to figure out how to have the java 7 plugin not considering the server IP to decide whether to use cached version of our applet's signed jars.
    As suggested in the title, we use BigIP's F5 boxes to dispatch requests among actual servers, which are located in 2 different sites (disaster recovery purposes).
    Each site has an F5 box ; and our DNS resolve the application's host name by alternating between 2 different IPs : one for site 1, the other for site 2.
    Each time a user visits http://theapp.mycompany.com, the host is resolved as 9.9.9.1 or 9.9.9.2, more or less randomly.
    This works very nicely as long as the applet is not concerned, or bandwith and latency is good enough to absorb 1.5Mb in a snap.
    For remote subsidiaries (10.000km away from servers), downloading 1.5Mb takes 35s -- too much for the normal user to wait.
    And the problem is : the plugin insists on looking up the server IP each time it starts up, and ignores cache entries that have been downloaded from a different IP.
    Here is the use case :
    - user connects to http://theapp.mycompany.com ; the browser get an IP, doesn't matter which ; user logs on, navigates in the app's html pages -- no problem
    - user gets to the applet :
    - the html page says
    <applet id="myApplet">
        <param name="archive" value="a.jar,b.jar,c.jar,d.jar,e.jar"/>
        <param name="codebase_lookup" value="false"/>
        <param name="archive_1" value="a.jar, preload, version=7.5.7" />
        <param name="archive_2" value="b.jar, preload, version=7.5.7" />
        <param name="archive_3" value="c.jar, preload, version=7.5.7" />
        <param name="archive_4" value="d.jar, preload, version=7.5.7" />
        <param name="archive_5" value="e.jar, preload, version=7.5.7" />
        <param name="baseUrl" value="/"/>
        <param name="code" value="a/package/for/Applet.class"/>
        <param name="mayscript" value="mayscript"/>
        <param name="codebase" value="/applet/"/>
        <param name="name" value="MyApplet" />"
        <param name="locale" value="fr"/>
    </applet>
         The archive_n parameters are here in an attempt to tell the plugin to not even ask for jars if its cache contains entries with same host/same name/same version.
         The version is assigned at build time at an application level ; it has nothing to do with the Implementation-Version attribute found in MANIFEST.MF files.
    - Java and the plugin sarts up : let's assume this is the first time : cache is empty : all jars are downloaded ; as they are signed and the CA certificate chain was set in the browser config, and the java.policy is also configured to allow smooth exec, the applet runs smoothly -- after a long startup delay
    - user leaves the applet, do some stuff in other applet-less pages for some minutes (the java/plugin processes are shut down after a minute or so)
    - user reenters the page that contains the applet
    - Java and the plugin start up again :
         - the cache has entries for each jar : host, name, version are all ok.
         - But : the jars are not seen as "prevalidated" ; heres' the applet log ( in French, translation provided after "//") :
    network: Vérification de version pour a.jar. La version spécifiée est 7.5.7     //Checking version for a.jar. Specified version is 7.5.7
    security: La vérification de révocation de la liste noire est activée     // Check of blacklist revocation is activated
    security: blacklist: created: NEED_LOAD, lastModified: 1378474147992
    security: blacklist: hasBeenModifiedSince 1380806409906 (we have 1378474147992)
    security: La vérification de liste de bibliothèques sécurisées est activée     // Check of trusted libraries is activated
    ..... same for the other jars ....
    network: Created version ID: 7.5.7
    network: Created version ID: 7.5.7
    network: Entrée de cache trouvée [URL : http://theapp.mycompany.com/applet/a.jar, version : 7.5.7] prevalidated=false/0  //Cache entry found
    cache: Adding MemoryCache entry: http://sandbox-mosaic.jcdecaux.com/applet/plannerApplet_7.5.7.jar
    network: Created version ID: 7.5.7
         - The plugin then tries to lookup the host IP to check whether it matches that seen when creating the entry
         - 2 possibilities here :
                   - the IP returned is the same : the plugin is happy, uses the cached jar, no question/download to/from the server, and the applet starts up quick and runs ok
                   - the IP returned is not the same ; the plugin says :
    network: Vérification de version pour a.jar. La version spécifiée est 7.5.7     //Checking version for a.jar. Specified version is 7.5.
    security: blacklist: created: NEED_LOAD, lastModified: 1378474147992
    security: blacklist: hasBeenModifiedSince 1380806409906 (we have 1378474147992)
    security: La vérification de liste de bibliothèques sécurisées est activée     // Check of trusted libraries is activated
    cache: CacheEntry IP mismatch: 9.9.9.1 != 9.9.9.2
              and then it downloads again the jar.
              Of course, all the jars are treated the same way.
              Note that the applet eventually runs normally ; the only problem is that the cache essentially doesn't work, causing terribly annoying 35s delays at applet startup.
    Interestingly enough, examining the jdk 6 code shows that the "prevalidated=false" fragment (in bold/pink above) means that the method CacheEntry.isKnownToBeSigned() returns false.
    I tried with a self-signed certificate which I added first in IE as "Trusted publisher" ; I also tried with a certificate signed by a CA that is known by IE -- no help.
    So I really wonder : what does it take to have the plugin consider that each jar "isKnownToBeSigned" ?
    Any thoughts ?
    Note : we of course are considering packing jars, cleaning dead code, etc. to decrease applet size. But it doesn't help with the fact that the plugin considers the IP, which it shouldn't do in our case. And even with pack200 we're left with +350Kb of unnecessary downloads, not counting with future code to be developped ...
    Thanks for any feedback
    David

    This behavior was introduced by a security "fix" intended to prevent a DNS re-binding attack which permits unsigned applets to escape the applet sandbox.  The "fix" was, imo, very poorly thought out.  You think you have a problem with 1.5 megabits of applet jars, but I have 8 megabytes, hundreds of thousands of users, with lousy networks. So now I'm stuck with a colocation vendor.  Imagine my chagrin when they changed *their* ISP and thus their IP addresses.
    As far as I can see, signed applets are already permitted (if the user allows) to communicate outside the sandbox, so this "fix" should not have been applied to signed jars, only to unsigned ones.  There are a couple of other techniques that Oracle might have used to prevent this attack, but they chose the simplest one, effectively preventing anyone from using the most common, inexpensive strategies for improving the availability of their web-based Java applications.

  • Java cgi applet not working

    Hi guys,
    I have an applet that allows a user to "create" a datafile using buttons, to ensure consistency of input. I then want to write this file tto my webserver (it keeps the data for a soccer league, with basic stats). I know that applets can't write in theory, so I have tried to do it using the POST function, to a basic CGI programme. I am getting an error
    HTTP/1.1 502 Gateway Error
    Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0
    Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2003 18:07:32 GMT
    Connection: close
    Content-Length: 186
    Content-Type: text/html
    <head><title>CGI Application Timeout</title></head><body><h1>CGI Timeout</h1>The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.Data file sent to host
    I know this is a java forum, but the CGI is simple
    print "content-type: text/plain\n\n";
    open(OUT,"> /Under14/111111.TST");
    while(<>){
         print OUT $_;
         print $_;
    close(OUT);
    exit 0;I have no idea how to debug this particular error, searching the internet brings out hundreds of similar errors, but little explanation of what is going wrong
    The Java code that kicks this off is
    //============================================================================//
         public void SendData(String data) throws Exception {
              tArea1.append("\n\n************   Sending Data   ************\n");
              URL url = new URL("http","www.lagfc.co.uk","/cgi-bin/ResUpd.cgi");
              URLConnection ucon = url.openConnection();
              ucon.setDoOutput(true);
              ucon.setDoInput(true);
              ucon.setUseCaches(false);
              ucon.setRequestProperty("Content-type", "text/plain");
              ucon.setRequestProperty("Content-length", 750+"");
              PrintStream out = new PrintStream(ucon.getOutputStream());
              out.print(data);
              out.flush();
              out.close();
              DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(ucon.getInputStream());
              String s;
              while((s=in.readLine()) !=null){
              tArea1.append(s);
              in.close();
              tArea1.append("\n\nData file sent to host");
       } // end of sendData
    //============================================================================//Help..........................

    Sscotties : I do appreciate your help, and maybe I have got wood for trees syndrome. I have been trying to understand what is going wrong here. I started learning Java 2 weeks ago, it seemed a good idea at the time, and a way to combine helping out my daughters football team, with a desire to understand more.
    I do not have a programming background, and so some of what you have been trying to tell me, will have gone right over my head, and I won't know which bits! I didn't understand the implications of what you were asking me to do last night, but having thought it through with a cooler head, I thank you for the login code. It is a good way to stop unauthorised users screwing up my results file. (at least if they only have my level of knowledge!), and as such I will incorporate it into the finished product.
    My frustration is down to the fact that I really have little understanding of what I am doing at this point, and I have no idea how to tackle the problem. Before I post onto this board, I normally do a Google trawl through many pages of data in an effort to try and find the answers myself, it helps with the general understanding of how things work, and is very satisfying when I can fix the problems. I know for example, that java is not the platform independant language I thought it was two weeks ago. Most of my users use basic IE, and so when I test something out, I have to test it using plain IE, then IE with 1.4.1
    then Netscape. This slows things down tremendously, as things like TextArea attributes work differently between MS and 1.4.1. I can work on a simple problem for hours, to find that its just MS doing there own thing. A great tip I got the other day was to compile using -target 1.1. This has increased my speed of development ten fold (now at 8mph!)
    My apologies for being tetchy, its nothing a few beers and a spell away from the PC won't cure.
    Back to the problem in hand. I made all the changes you suggested. The changes to perl make no difference, the error message is the same. I have left your suggestions to use getCodeBase().getHost() in, as they make the applet more portable, and I thank you for that.
    The DataInputStream is deprecated, but as I am using -target 1.1 will this be a problem (Could be Newbie stupid question time! :-{)) I have used this format in other parts of the code as well. I am also using action rather than ActionEvent to listen for events in the prog. This is the only other deprecated method in the coding.
    I don't know how to set permissions on the server, but will ask the question of my hosting company. I have a pick up and run cgi script that does the guest book, and this worked no problem, writing records to a guestdata file, and a password file, with no further changes needed to the file permissions, but still worth checking.
    I am sending the data, because the data is returned to me, before the error message, although not all the data sent has been returned as part of the error message, are there any restrictions on the size of a String, the file is 9250 bytes long, does it need terminating with an EOF marker of some sort ?
    Any advice will be gratefully accepted
    regards
    KPJ

  • Applet overwritten when second instance initialized ?

    Hi
    When I try to initialize a second instance of an applet using IE(one instance is already running), I find that the first applet is overwritten by the second. This should not have been a problem, but my applet launches a password verification dialog box in the start method, and this is not destroyed when the second applet comes up, resulting in 2 of these dialog boxes. Result is, that if you close the second applet dialog box(ie, destroy the applet), and then enter the right password in the first dialog box, it causes the backend program to crash.
    The Java Console shows that IE calls the 1st applet's stop/destroy/quit etc. methods, but they are not executed before being overwritten by second applet, hence destroying the dialog box in destroy() doesn't work. So, is there any way I can destroy the 1st applet before the second is loaded, or prevent second from being loaded?
    Thanks
    Santosh

    Hello Santosh,
    I have had many difficulties with this kind of problem in the past. The only way to gurantee that this will work is by making the Server more resilient.
    Calin's suggestion is good. However, unfortunately, IE manages Applets in a very funny way. The fully qualified name of the Applet class depends on the window you opened the original Applet with (much like having loaded the same class with different ClassLoaders). This means that using static instance variables works in a very ad-hoc manner. Sometimes you get the result you expected, sometimes you don't.
    IE also breaks the expected functioning of init/start/stop/destroy. If you keep on openning your applet HTML page, you will get the same number of concurrent applets all running on top of each other, until you close all browser windows.
    If you have control over the Server process, make the start() method request a unique ID from the Server. After this, all subsequent calls from the Applet should be preceeded by this unique ID. The server should then listen for communication for each ID it has dispatched, up until a given timeout period, when it renders the ID invalid.
    HTH,
    Manuel Amago.

  • Applet runnning jre7 sends tons of PersistenceDelegate requrests to server:

    Our server runs jdk1.6. Applet runs on IE7. Just recently, some clients with jre1.7 experiences slow down. By monitoring our Apache Mod_jk log, we see tons of requests from client such as:
    GET /epen-webapp/java/lang/ClassPersistenceDelegate.class
    GET /epen-webapp/java/util/PropertiesPersistenceDelegate.class
    GET/epen-webapp/java/util/HashtablePersistenceDelegate.class
    GET/epen-webapp/java/lang/IntegerPersistenceDelegate.class
    This is likely because of some changes in java 1.7 on XmlEncoder change. As we use XmlEncoder in transporting data between client and server. Somehow, the XmlEncoder in 1.7 does not know how to persists Integer, Propertyies and Hashtable?
    We don't recognize these classes and don't know why these are being requested by the applet.
    Applets running jre1.6 do not have this problem.
    Our server is jboss 4.3 eap running on jdk1.6.

    My organization is experiencing very similar problems.  We have resolved it through several steps.
    We upgraded the client to Java 8 and we saw in the console that the hanging connection with the Domain Controller no longer occurs.  This may be all that is necessary for your environment as well.

  • Applet fails in Linux but works on Windows and MAC

    Hey I've been testing my RMI Chat and everything seems to work fine when I connect to it from a MAC machine or Windows machine but when I try to connect on Linux (openSUSE) the applet gets a connection timeout.
    The applet will load initially but when it connects to the server, I get a connection timeout exception. The exception is:
    java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is:
         java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 192.168.1.103; nested exception is:

    Has it got to do with the /etc/hosts?? I also have java.rmi.hostname set in the server class
    Thanks in advance for any help

    Check to see if you can access your server from other machines over the internet using telnet. That is in command prompt go to the drive that has the OS. Say it is C:
    Then write:
    C:\>telnet <your servers external ip address> <port number that you are trying to access>
    If everything is fine you will get a blank window with the cursor blinking on the top left hand corner of the window.
    Generally this connection timed out exception occurs when the client can't find the server.

  • Debug applet embedded in jsp using tomcat and eclipse

    I am trying to debug applet embeded in jsp. I have deployed my application on tomcat.
    The steps I followed
    1. Added JVM rumtime parameters in Java plugin control panel
    -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xnoagent -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=localhost:8000,suspend=n
    2. Added JPDA_ADDRESS = localhost:8000 and JPDA_TRANSPORT=dt_socket to catlina.bat
    3. I start my server from commandline prompt "catalina.bat JPDA start"
    4.I have made a new configuration for remote debug in eclipse debug>new> connection type (socket attach) >port 8000
    5. when I open my application url in browser browser closes and command prompt displays "*Debugger failed to attach , timeout before handshake*"
    Any help on this ?
    Thanks in advance

    Personally, I have no knowledge about Applet but have you checked this link?
