Application not able to download on java web start

I am deploying an application using glassfish application server.
when i launch the client using java web start on localhost, it works perfectly.
But when i try to launch the client from some other computer on the internet, the download of the application never finshes.
The download starts and restarts several times but never finshes. It stalls after some time ( atleast it looks like it has stalled)
Help me !

Problems to download with java web start

Hola to all.
I have the following problem. My application not discharge of the server when you exist a new version. The application runs off line but when exist a new version must download the last version, is the idea.
If I execute for first time the "launch.jnlp" file ( that is to say in the client equipment never execute the application ) java web start connects and download correctly the application and starts application, and creates the icon on the screen. But if the application already existed java web start executes the application that there is in the client and not download the new version of the server. I think, that problem its happen because the time waiting the response of the server is too long, and executes the local application. To resolve this, i execute the application on java control panel in online mode, and this work ok, because find a new version.

ADF faces client Demo application not able to download from oracle site

Problem with CORBA application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0.

Java Web Start fans and experts:
We have been using Java Web Start to deploy the client side of a CORBA-based application since the inception of Java Web Start ... including Java Web Start 1.0 right up through the present.
With Java Web Start 1_6_0, we see evidence that Web Start is "tinkering with" the IOR that CORBA uses to communicate. In all previous versions of Java Web Start, independent of the JRE which the application uses, the stringified IOR have been the same size regardless of whether the application is deployed locally or via Java Web Start. With Java Web Start 1_6_0, the stringified IOR is much longer than the "real" IOR (again, regardless of the JRE used by the application itself). To me this smells like a bug in Java Web Start 1_6_0. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Here are some specifics .... I've run the same client application with various JREs both with and without Java Web Start as the deployment mechanism. The application was compiled and runs against servers that are running JDK 1_5_0_09.
Here is the summary of my results from a Linux box running various JREs, various versions of Java Web Start, and also running as a non-JWS deployed application. I've listed the length of the stringified IOR in each case.
JRE 1.5.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
JRE 1.6.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344 ... this, I think, excludes the JRE as the cause of these problems.
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 1568
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS cleint: stringified IOR length = 1568
In all cases, the stringified IOR length is determined by the service receiving the message and is always running JRE 1_5_9_09 and is
always the same 344 characters in length UNLESS it was deployed
using Java Web Start 1_6_0, in which case it in nearly 5 times as big!
To me, it sure looks as if there is a problem with Java Web Start 1_6_0 to be adding so much to the stringified IOR. Note: it's hard to tell how different the underlying IOR is in the JWS 1_6_0 case because, unlike most other ORBs, the Sun ORB doesn't have a tool to extract the IOR into a human readable structure. However, I can think of no good reason why the identical application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0 should have a stringified IOR length that is different than that of the same application deployed in non-JWS form or should differ from the behavior seen in all previous releases of Java Web Start.
Any clues or suggestions? Has anyone else observed this behavior?

I got a different problem. My Corba application works in JRE 1.6, but doesn't works in JRE 1.5.X. I got an unexpected error and my console shows:

Java web start will not load on my computer

When I try and start the IR (PI version 7.1) I get the download of Java Web Start aborting as it complains that the client.jar file is corrupt.
I just got a colleague to do the same thing on her computer and the dowload worked perfectly!
I have JRE 1.5.0.18 on my computer, my colleague has 1.6 on her machine.

Hi Ross,
Perform the below step:
Integration Builder> Administration-> JAVA Web Start Administration--> Re-initialization and force signing.
This function will cause the above re-collection and additionally a re-signing of ALL resources with a dummy certificate. The original SAP signatures of the jarfiles will be lost. It is recommended to use this function only in test systems. To get back the original SAP signatures the application has to be deployed again.

Java Web Start was instruduced in jdk1.2, it's about ten years ago,But it's still not widely used--WHY?
it's not because the design, it's becasue the code--the garbage code-- even the last version not work in many user computers,
just not work suddendly -- noboday know reason--- if you do not believe, please google internet, many people suffered and suffering from web start!
It's incredible that a famous big company like sun can not resolve an deployment problen in ten years that some very small company can do good work in much more short time !!!

Here is an desing suggestion:
Client-end should be simple and stable, should let the server-end do complex thing .(now sun do opposite thing, they make Client-end complex, but server simple) ---it's because that Client-end will take widely effect on user's computer. update a few server is much more easy then update a amount of clients!

Unable to launch java web start

We have already devloped an application based on java web start. Most of the client machines, we try to install java web start and run the developed app, it works fine. For one of the clients machine, we have an issue with java web start itself, it does not startup and bring up the application manager. When you start java web start, it shows up the splash screen 'java web start 1.0.1' after some time, it vanishes and does not bring up the application manager. I have installed java web start 1.0.1_01 (build 04) installed on Windows 2000 Professional, by default that has installed JRE 1.3.1_04 also.
We verified the system, all the files being existing under c:\program files\java web start dir. And the JRE is also installed fine.
Couple of times we uninstalled, rebooted and installed.
Infact, we have even verified the file types for html, htm, which was set to msoffice, and we have changed to internet explorer. For jnlp file type it was already set to javaws.exe.
Can you please let me know what could be the problem.

There's nothing to stop you installing 1.4 or even 1.4.2, it's the jnlp file that specifies which runtime version gets used to run your application - web start can be used to happily switch runtimes like this. You'll just need to have 1.4 and 1.3 installed on each machine. It's a good idea to upgrade the web start client as the old 1.0 version doesn't work at all well with Windows XP, it's structure of storing all the files in c:\program files works against the security restrictions built into XP.
Incidentally the config file you were looking for in under c:\program files\javaws\javaws.cfg, but this is different in later versions.
Your problem is most likely being caused by web start not being able to find the Java runtime version it was installed with, the client may well have installed a newer (or older) version of 1.3 which has broken the configuration.. another reason to upgrade is the old versions are very fragile in this respect; 1.4.2 can find installed runtimes far more dynamically. Fixing the config file above should get things working again, otherwise delete the .javaws directory in the user profile and re-start web start.
1.4.2 is the best at finding runtimes, but is marred by problems with the integration dialogs, locale always reported as en_US and some strange new behaviour with classloaders and malfunctioning auto installers.. jws 1.2 that comes with jre 1.4.1_x is far more reliable.

Java Web Start software provides a flexible and robust deployment solution for Java technology-based applications based on the Java Community Process program (JCP). The technology is being developed through the JCP program as JSR-56: The Java Network Launching Protocol & API (JNLP), which provides a browser-independent architecture for deploying Java 2 technology-based applications to the client desktop.
Java Web Start technology works with any browser and any Web server. Each application developed for use with the Java Web Start software specifies which version of the Java 2 platform it requires, e.g., version 1.2 or 1.3, and each application runs on a dedicated Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
A main feature of the Java Network Launching Protocol and API technology is the ability to automatically download and install Java Runtime Environments onto the users machine.
For example, an application might depend APIs in Sun's Java Runtime Environment 1.3.0 (or later). When a user first accesses this application, the Java Web Start software will download all the needed files for the application, as well as download the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) if the requested version is not available locally. The ability to automatically download a JRE is one of the key features to ensure robust deployments. The java.sun.com auto-download feature simplifies Java Web Start deployments because it makes commonly used software readily available for use with Java Web Start. In contrast, without the auto-download feature, developers would be forced to repackage and host the software themselves - adding a significant overhead to the deployment burden. As an added benefit to both developers and end-users, this minimizes the download time for an application since each JRE will be shared between multiple applications.

Java Web Start didn't install with j2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe

I just uninstalled all my java stuff from my XP Pro system
then re-installed... j2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe
With the SDK installation... j2re1.4.2_04 also installed... I think this is the Java Runtime
But, before I had a folder for Java Web Start... not I don't...
AND, the file... javaws-1_2-windows-i586-i.exe
refered to on the Java Web Start Installation page isn't on my system anymore...
(It was in an older vrsion of the Java Runtime... ( I had 2 java Runtimes at once installed, that is why I uninstalled... and even though I had Java Web Start, it wasn't working... so I deleted everything and reinstalled the j2sdk-1_2_04-windiws-i586-p.exe.)
I would just download the java Web Start but the docs tell me it should be installed when the SDK and Runtime are installed... so I worry if I got the installation correct.
Can anyone please advise me of how to get things working again.

Communicate with servlet after using Java Web Start?

Is it possible to communicate with servlet to get data back and forth
after using Web Start to download the client application?
The demos come with Java Web Start are applications which are
standalone, don't need communicate with the servlet on Web server
after being launched. I am wondering if it is possible, and how (HTTP
& JAX-RPC)?

I've done this using HTTP. I get the server and port from the codebase:

and use the java.net.HttpURLConnection and java.net.URL classes to send HTTP parameter values to the servlet and to receive results from the HttpURLConnection's input stream.

Java Web Start doesn't start (Windows XP)

Hi,
I've installed Java Web Start on a Windows XP machine. When I try to run an application or I try to open Java Web Start directly the "Java Web Start" splash screen appears for a few seconds and than disappears and nothing else happens.
I heard that other people using Windows XP have the same problem. Can anyone help?
Java Runtime is 1.4.0, but I also tried some other runtimes as well with the same result.

Hi,
I found some stuff, but it didn't work for me. Maybe you can give it a try.
1. Deactivate Proxy
Add or edit javaws.cfg.proxy.setting=NONE in the javaws.cfg file.
2. Deactivate Splashscreen
Add option "-Xnosplash" in the Windows registry for the .JNLP ending, i.e. "C:\Program Files\Java Web Start\javaws.exe" "-Xnosplash" "%1"
3. Run with Java VM
I created a .BAT file:
SET JWS=C:/Programme/Java Web Start
java -cp "%JWS%/javaws.jar" "-Djnlpx.home=%JWS%" com.sun.javaws.Main %1
To run Java Web Start simply run the .BAT file. To run a specific application run the .BAT file with the complete URL of the .JNLP file.

Java Web Start and C++ executable

Can anyone please help me to deploy an application including three C++ executables using Java Web Start?
I packaged each .exe file into .jar and created a java program called "ExecTest" that attempt to launch the .exe by calling Runtime.exec (someapp.exe).
My JNLP file looks like:

The problem I am having is that Runtime.exec wants the full absolute pathname for the executables. But the cached jar files all have some arbitrary letters prefixed, so I cannot specify them beforehand.
Any ideas?

I've deployed serialio.com's replacement for javax.comm via Java Web Start, and I managed to package the .dll in a .jar without any difficulties.
Perhaps the System.loadLibrary() function knows about the renaming that Java Web Start does...
If so, then the following might do the trick:
- Use System.loadLibrary() to load your .exe file. Windows uses the same fileformat for DLLs and EXE files, and hence System.loadLibrary() should be a safe no-op. Presumably you are
- Use System.mapLibraryName() to find the full path to your .exe.

Java Web Start & Java Mail

I can send email from my application using Java Mail when I include mail.jar in my classpath in the launch.bat file i use to luanch the application.
Now, I am using Java Web Start to launch my application and whenever I try to send out emails from my application I got an error message about no provider found or something like that.
Anyone know how to get around this?

Not getting application in Java Web Start

Hello Sir,
I wanted to run an application using Java Web Start. So, I created a jnlp file and i have mentioned the necessary jar files and the main class file. when I clicked on the jnlp file, the application is running in the Server using Java Web Start and its shortcuts are creates on the desktop and in the startmenu. I am able to run the application by clicking on the shortcut in the server. But I am unable to Download the application in the Java Web Start. It is not showing any Error Messages and the application is not running in the cleint machines.

If webstart in not actually downloading the jar - is the jar in the correct location?
Is the server named dev01 and the directory structure actually /Dummy/New?
Note: you do need to set up the mine type JNLP on your server,
In my case the location of the JNLP file and main jar file passport is in the following directory.
c:\Inetpub\WIMRoot\application
The additional jars are in
c:\Inetpub\WIMRoot\application

Java Web Start Application surprisedly does not start anymore based on new JRE1.7.0_45

Hi everyone,
we have to maintain a self-developed Java Application which is running based on JRE1.5.0_51 (x64). Our recent client machines have JRE1.7.0_40 (x64 too) installed in addition to the mentioned (and needed) JRE1.5.0_51 (x64).
Everything was fine up to the point where we tried to install the newest JRE1.7.0_45 (x64) as the new version for doing the web start magic. The result is that our application (which is/was unchanged!) does not launch anymore. The strange thing is that we do not get any StackTrace, Exception or something else like this.
The startup process simply hangs :-(
Nothing has changed (application itself, firewall, network settings, hardware) apart from the new JRE version. It's reproducible at will. If I install JRE1.7.0_40 (x64) the application starts, if I install JRE1.7.0_45 (x64) the application hangs.
I can say for sure, that in both cases (*_40 AND *_45) Web Start is able to do the synchronizing job and to launch the application base on the correct JRE1.5.0_51 (x64).
My guess is that in case of an installed JRE1.7.0_45 (x64), the application hangs when it tries to connect to the database (Oracle 11g) via JDBC.
I found a little hint in the Web Start Console. Therefore I had to switch the trace level of the console to 3 (which includes security, network and basic)
In case of an installed JRE1.7.0_40 (x64) - which leads to a running application - I will receive the following output:

These last "network:" log entries will never stop. This will lead to an infinite loop which results in a great memory leak. I have to kill the process via windows task manager in order to get rid of it.
Does someone out there has the same problem? Are there any new additional security issues which prevent my client to establish the database connection on port 1521?
Any other ideas?

Resolution: We still were not able to solve this issue! The only way to get out of this is to install the JRE1.5 as the x64 variant. In this case no switching from 64-bit to 32-bit is needed and everything is on track again.
But this is still strange and unexplainable :-(
