Application not detected in Task Sequence

Hello,
I have problems with some applications in a task sequence with SCCM2012 R2.
The applications install fine in a normal deployment via Software Center and get detected after the Installation.
The same applications get installed in a TS but are not detected after the Installation (according to AppEnforce.log) and the TS fails.
I already tried all kinds of application detection methods (file system, registry, MSI, custom script) but without success.
When the TS fails I checked manually (pressing F8) where detection should have looked and the requirements are met.
Thanks in advance for your hints and solutions.

Hallo Salthaus_de
Tbh, it might work if you do as you just said, move it over to a package, and it might not Work. :)
The most typical reason that this happens is that your application install ends before it is done doing what it should. I have seen this happening alot with "Autodesk" products, they start a "setup.exe" which spawns another "setup.exe" and exits the first.
This then tells SCCM, the setup.exe's PID you requested to look at has ended, and you can now do your detection check.
This Means it will be installing for another 15 minutes, and taking up msiexec.exe - which Means the applications installing after this one possibly could end up not installing with the errorcode, another product is currently being installed.
Based on this i would still, eventhough the "workaround" Works, as it should, find out why this happens.
Just my 2 cents, what you do NeXT is up to you. :)
Kind regards

  • MDT - Custom Reference Image does not work with Task Sequence, normal Windows 7 Enterprise Iso media works fine.

    Hi,
Our MDT server is acting strange!
I have previously had this system running without problem - i could both capture and deploy computers as is and no changes have been made to mdt.
But my latest capture does not work. When i capture my reference maching in my VM environment it completes without errors and i can import the latest wim file.
When i deploy the tast sequence, it install the custom Wim image, but it ends up with "login" screen as the administrator i have entered for the capture/deploy sequence, but it goes to stop at this point and applications is not installed.
If i change the ISO in the task sequence under Install OS step, to a clean Win7 install media then the capture completes and install applications.
    I have also tried to:
    Capture reference without password
    Capture reference without Windows updates

  • Application support for OSD Task sequence

    Hi
An Application with Priority 2 deployment type as “Only when a used is logged in” and Priority 1 deployment type as “whether or not a  user logged in”.In this case ,We are not able to include the applications in task sequence.

  • Deployed Application Not appearing in Task Pane

I have deployed an application, have mapped all the required Roles to Participants...post successfull deployment, when i am loggin into BPM workspace,Application doesnt appear. However Application Roles are all getting displayed into Admin Console of BPM.

    Hi Durgadas
    1. You mean to say, on left side you do not see a link for your application to initiate a task. Am I right ? If so, first check if you have some Users added to that first Initiator Role. If you deployed your app one time from JDev at that time only all the participants you add for that role will be stored in the db. Any later redeployments with more participants will not be reflected. This is part of design of bpm itself. So from BPM Workspace, login as admin. From Adminstrator link, add the users to that Role and see if that helps. If you added particpants in the JDeveloper IDE itself, they may not be reflected, even though you see them listed in admin console. So better delete existing participants or add some new participants and see if that works.
    2. I hope the first user task, that submits the task has actions like Submit and it should be Initiator type user task. When you edit the user task and add a human task, at that time, select from drop down as Initiator with only one Action like Submit.
    3. Restarting the server helps sometimes. But this may not be the root cause for your issue. Everytime you add a new participant to initiator role, we cannot expect to restart the soa servers. Add a new user from bpm admin console and thats all we need.
    Thanks

  • Mdt 2012 sp1 command line does not run from task sequence

    Hi,
I am hoping I can explain this correctly.  I am using MDT 2012 and having an issue with running command lines, powershell and batch files that I setup.
The task sequence is set to use an account called "MDTService".  it has rights to join the domain but is not in the local admin group of the reference image.  a domain GPO renames the local admin account CoAdmin.
when running a command line to, for example, run xcopy a folder and subdirectories to the "program Files x86" directory, it does not copy.
When I log on to the system and use an admin account to manually run the command I do not have an issue.  if I log onto the system with the MDTService user and run it, it fails.
How do I get the commands to run from the MDT task sequence?  I do not want to make the MDTService user an admin.  I have tried the run as option in the task sequence but that did not work.  maybe is set it wrong.  I used a domain\Admin
    account which did not work.
what can I clarify or logs can I post to provide more details.
    Thanks in advance.

Any account that needs to add files under %ProgramFilesx86% must be granted administrative privileges.

  • Applications Installed through task sequence not showing up in Software Center

In the task sequence we use for our OSD Windows 7 machine build, we have Custom-Install Application steps which install a number of of our Applications.  Each of these Applications has the "Allow this application to be installed from the Install
Application task sequence action without being deployed" checkbox checked.  All of the Applications have the following properties set:
    Installation behavior: Install for system
Logon requirement: Whether or not a user is logged in
    Installation program visibility: Hidden
When a machine is built using this task sequence, all of the Applications install successfully - they show up in Control Panel\Programs and Features, and they run correctly. However, none of them show up in the Software Center. I'm not seeing anything in
any of the logs that indicates a problem, and the Software Center remains empty even after running all the client evaluation cycle actions
Interestingly, if I add a couple of the newly build machines to a collection, then target deployments for the already installed Applications to that collection, after running the Machine Policy Retrieval and Evaluation Cycle the Applications immediately
show up in Software Center as installed.
Does anyone know if Applications installed through a task sequence do not show up in the Software Center by default, or could you give me some troubleshooting tips if this is not normal?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    SCCM 2012 SP1, Single site, W7 clients

Why you deploy applications through task sequences? Task sequences are built and meant to be used with OSD, not application deployment.
To my knowledge, if you have application install step in a task sequence and you deploy that task sequence to a collection of machines, the software center on those machines only sees the task sequence itself, not the applications inside the task sequence.
If you want your applications to be shown in the software center, change the method of deploying stuff and deploy applications as they're are meant to.

  • Applications installed via Task sequence

    Hi,
Before my time on SCCM someone previous to me decided to deploy a group of applications using a SCCM Task Sequence. Essentially all this does is install Applications in a certain order. The time has come to uninstall this group of applications.
I've managed to uninstall everything successfully by deploying each of the applications at a Uninstall Collection with the Uninstall Action. However, if I need to rollback and re-install the task sequence on a machine I have just removed all the applications
from, SCCM seems to think it is still installed?
I can't see any detection method on the Task sequence, and I've cleared the SCCM Cache. The PC is not in the install collection.
Is there something else on the client that tells it what task sequences have been deployed against it?

You might want to run some PowerShell instead then.
The following three commands will force a re-run of a TS
    Get-WmiObject -Namespace "root\ccm\scheduler" -Class ccm_scheduler_history | where {$_.ScheduleID -like "*<PackageID of Task Sequence>*"} | ft ScheduleID
    Get-WmiObject -Namespace "root\ccm\scheduler" -Class ccm_scheduler_history | where {$_.ScheduleID -like "*<PackageID of Task Sequence>*"} | Remove-WmiObject
    Get-Service | where {$_.Name -eq "CCMExec"} | Restart-Service
Obviously set <PackageID of Task Sequence> to the actual PackageID such as 'CMR000A2'

  • Sccm 2012 simulate deployment for task sequence / OS or applications

    Hi
I have been getting a lot of problems with Os/Application Task Sequences and have been asked a few questions.
I cannot find anything on the Web about Limitations for a simulated deployment in SCCM 2012.
I know SCCM allows you to create them but does it work/Are the results accurate?
I need to know the following:
Can you simulate an OS Deployment Task Sequence?
Can you simulate an Application Deployment Task Sequence?
Are there limitations to Simulated Deployments?
Thanks guys Hope this makes sense and you can help.
    Regards
    Anthony

If you have the MDT integration with SCCM 2012 you can simulate the settings used by the task sequence, but not the actual task sequence deployment. However, seeing the settings is often enough.

  • Application Deployment vs Task Sequence for MS Office 2013

    Afternoon All,
I'm in the process of Deploying MS Office 2013 onto our fleet of machines using SCCM 2012
Our current fleet has MS Office 2010 installed
I have created a custom .MSP file for my MS Office 2013
I'm currently just deploying MS Office 2013 by just selecting device collections and it seems to work (besides removing sharepoint workspace 2010)
I have been trying to streamline the process to clean up MS Office 2010 - I have been told to create a custom task sequence and set it as below
    1. Use Office 2010 Application package set as uninstall
    2. Use Office 2013 Application package set to install
They say this makes for a more clean process as it's two individual tasks being completed.
Just want to see how others went from MS Office 2010 to MS Office 2013 using SCCM 2012

Also note that using task sequences for application installs is currently not supported by Microsoft. It may still work, but it is not supported.

  • Install Applications in task sequence - fails if there is no source

I found an odd issue in SCCM 2012 SP1.  I have many applications that install perfectly when deployed.  There is no source for the application because it is a network based install, and needs to be.  If I try to add the application to the
"Install Application" method in a task sequence, it looks successful.  But then re-edit the task sequence and it will tell you there is an issue with the "Install Application" method.  The app will not install when you run the
task sequence either.  If you then add a content folder to the application, it works like a charm.
In the meantime, I am providing a dummy content location for these apps so I can get things running.  But has anyone run into this?  Seems so odd that task sequences don't like apps without content.

These are Autodesk application installs.  When the deployments are built, they are built to a network location and INI files are generated with paths in them.  In the past, I manually edited these files to use local relative pathing, so they
could be used as content, downloaded to the system, and executed locally by SMS.  I found issues with install Source locations though (yes, even with using SCCM's built in source control), that made me really want to change the INI's back to network locations,
so now there is no more need for content.
I will have to look into the DCR.

  • Applications in a PXE deployed task sequence

    Hello forum,
Can someone confirm, if SCCM2012 is working as intended when considering the following:
I created MS Lync 2013 as an application (A), superseding an existing application of MS Lync 2010 (B). This in itself works fine when application A is being deployed
to a collection of computers. (Lync 2010 is being uninstalled, and 2013 installed)
What baffles me is if I put application A into a task sequence which is only available to PXE (e.g. my OSD task sequence), I will see computers evaluating the application
and start uninstall/install Lync inside the OS. (AppEnforce.log, AppIntentEval.log)
Is this really as intended? The TS itself is only available to PXE, but yet will applications in the TS still be evaluated by the OS, and cause Lync (and other application
if not present on the client) to be uninstalled/installed (when software inventory is run).
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
I am having a similar problem where an application that is not deployed to any collections is being installed or attempted to be installed.
The application is one I use during an OSD TS to upgrade computer BIOS if there is a newer version available. There is a query that runs to find what version is installed and if there is a newer version, it gets installed. I do not have Supersedence configured,
but I do use dependencies for situations (maybe 3 models) where you can't just go immediately to the current version but must install a previous BIOS to get to the latest. (So to get to current you have to go from v3 > v7 > v19 > current). I don't
think this though has anything to do with the issue. All the deployment types for all the models are contained within this one application.
The only place this application is used like I said is in the OSD TS. Much like in your link, I do have my TS deployed to an "All Workstations" collection (sort of like your All Systems but limited to only workstation class OS's). And like in your link,
I do understand the danger of doing this and have taken similar precautions to prevent "really bad things" from happening.
We are moving from CM07 to CM12 and during the first pilot I had one user report after the new client was installed that they were prompted to reboot and during that time their BIOS was upgraded. Checked the logs, sure enough, it was SCCM that did it.
This week while troubleshooting another issue I was looking through the AppEnforce.log on another workstation. I noticed on this one that also the BIOS is attempting to be updated, as well as on my own workstation. Luckily for the person who did get their
BIOS upgraded there was not a problem.
I have checked on the servers to see if there is any reference to any of the OSD applications being attempted to be installed on them but it does not appear so. They don't have an AppEnforce.log (most likely since we don't deploy apps via CM (yet) to servers).
So it appears  that this most likely has something to do with my TS being deployed to a collection where all the workstations are at. Somehow they are randomly "picking" things to try to install that are in the TS which does not make sense. If the workstations
suddenly rebooted, formatted, installed OS, drivers, apps, etc and so forth (basically ran through the TS) that would make sense. (I'd be horrified, but I would at least understand why it is happening.
I guess I'm not making the connection in how an application which only exists in a TS, with no outside dependencies/or superceedence can run.
I'm wondering if this is a bug or something? It seems that the TS should be treated as a box. TS is presented to the computer and it can only get to things inside that TS once it opens that box and goes through that
sequence of steps. Instead, it seems like the TS is presented as a "glass window" where the computers can see everything that is inside and somehow those things inside are now available for computers to install.
to me at least it isnt making sense.
