Application Server or Developer Suite

Hi experts,
What is the difference between Application Server and Developer Suite listed here in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/downloads/index.html ?
And while learning, if I want to install on my laptop(Windows 7 32-bit), which one is prefered(works) when I have 10g databse installed.
Or do we need to install both Application Server and Developer Suite.

The main difference is in components that comes with installation.
Developer Suite comes with:
Oracle JDeveloper
Oracle Reports
Oracle Forms
Oracle Discoverer
Oracle Designer
Oracle Business Intelligence Beans
Developer Suite Software Configuration Manager
Once you need to Deploy your application to users - you will need Application Server
which includes much more:
Adapters
B2B
Business Rules
Containers for J2EE
Content Management SDK
Developer Tools
Discoverer
Forms
High Availability
HTTP Server
Identity Management
Manageability
Portal
Reports
TopLink
Web Cache

  • Application Express Vs developer suite 10g

    Hello
I am a beginner and I am confused which application package I have to use to build
my application consisting of forms and reports.
Can someone please highlight the difference in applications created using
application express and developer suite 10g.Their advantages and which one is
preferred with oracle 11g database as backend and its support with OS windows vista.
Please help us.Since we are planning to upgrade our old software developed
    using oracle 8i and developer6.0
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your suggestions.
Please suggest us once again how to proceed in our environment.
Actually we have developed an in-house erp package consisting
of different modules for production, finance, inventory .There
are many forms with many fields and customised reports and plenty of data entry.
As per your suggestion we can use Developer suite 10g by doing
one is to one migration with some modifications as required by developer suite
and moreover it is used only locally in intranet. This also needs a browser.
(this will be faster compared to APX since we have to redo all the forms
and reports from the beginning which will take time.).
Our doubt is, can we make our application (developed using developer suite)
web enabled later on without going for APX so that we can access our application
from customer or remote site through internet.
In that case what will be the requirement and how do we go about in making
    our application web enabled.
Thanks once again for your valuable suggestions.

  • Installing an Oracle Database client on Application Server

    Hi all
I have posted before but thought I'd clean up my original question and repost - apologies but I'm desperate for help here.
I have a problem using Oracle Wallet with Application Server and Developer Suite 10g Rel 2 Software Update 10.1.2.3.0 on Windows 2003. The problem arises because the database which ships with this version of Application Server is 10.1.0.5. This database version is not compatible with Oracle Wallet external passwords eg sqlplus /@MY_WALLET_NAME.
So...to get around this I'm looking at putting the 10.2 database client on which will allow me to use sqlplus with the wallet.
    My questions is:
Does anyone have any advice for retaining existing Application Server functionality (we use Discoverer, Forms and Reports (RWCLIENT)) with a new Oracle 10.2 home on the server?
I will put on the client so would expect if I copy across the tnsnames & sqlnet ora, the connectivity is all backward compatible. SQL*Plus is obviously backward compatible. I'm not familiar with Application Server so am looking for guidance on any configurations I might need to change to make sure they pick up the right Oracle Home. For example, with the new Oracle Home at the start of the %PATH%, will RWCLIENT work as normal?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Nothing special. Oracle Client installation is very simple.

  • How to start Report Server automatically in developer suit 10g

    Hi all
I have an application implemented using Developer Suit 10 g forms and reports builder.
For this application, the first report to be printed after booting the computer takes a long time (around 5 minutes)
when printing any more report (even if it was the one printed before ) it takes a little time, this means that the first report made the report server start.
I rebooted the computer, but this time i started the report server manually using this command :
    <strong>rwserver server=report_server_name</strong>
Now, the report is printed after a little time, It's OK.
<strong>Is there any configuration to start the Report Server automatically in developer suit 10g after the computer boots ?
    </strong>Please help

    No answer ?

  • Oracle Application Server 10g (Application Running)

    Dear All Sir/Madam
It is my humble request that please tell me how to run Application on Application Server 10g.
I developed my Application in Oracle developer suit 10g (build internet appliacation), and I am using *10g database*.
Now please tell me the complete procedure who to configure oracle application server 10g on linux.

    Hello Ghulam,
Notice that you can deploy different kind of applications within the Application Server framework, e.g. JEE applications, PL/SQL applications, Forms Applications etc. Based on what you initially mentioned, it seems that your have developed a Forms application. The above document reference refers to Application Server 10.1.3, which was a JEE / SOA release. You are probably better off with the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/web.1012/b14032/toc.htm]Forms Deployment Guide.
One note : Application Server 10.1.2.x is soon to be desupported. Consider to move to version [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/downloads/index.html]11.1.2 !
    Thanks,
    EJ

  • Unable to connect to 10g database from developer suite 10g

I have loaded oracle 10g on my server with OS windows 2003 and it is working fine. Now I have installed Oracle developer suite 10g on windows XP client . we have configured local listener also and its entry is found in tnsnames.ora
My database name is mbxdata .
I have defined my host name as
MBXDATA.mbxnet.com in tnsnames but I am unable to connect to the database since I get error as ORA-12154 : TNS :could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
    Please suggest matter urgent.
    Thanks in advance

We are having the same issue now. Was this ever resolved? We created 2 new databases and added those entries in both tnsnames on the local pc, and the tnsnames on the application server. Able to connect via sqlplus, toad, etc. but not through forms developer. We are running 10g app server, 10g developer suite, 10g databases. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • How to configure JMS queue on OC4J server. Development in JDeveloper 10G

    Hi there,
I have to configure a JMS for an Asynchronous process in my Application which will be running in Oracle 10G Application Server. Development Environment is Oracle JDeveloper 10G.
I am facing a problem on how to configure JMS queue.
    Steps Followed are:
    in the <JDevloperHome>/j2ee/home/config
    1. Made the new queue and connection factory's JMS entry in jms.xml.
    2. Specifed the queue in oc4j-connectors.xml.
    3. played around with application.xml
and tried all combinations, but the message producer always failed to lookup the queue.
Need help on the steps to follow so that the producer can post the message in the queue.
Also please help how to configure the MDB to listen to the queue.
    Thanx and Regards
    Subham

If you were dealing with Oracle 10g app server as opposed to standalone, I might be better able to help you.
One thing though, when you are configuring your MDB in the orion-ejb-jar.xml file, do not forget to specify attribute listener-threads, otherwise no matter how many beans you have in your MDB pool, only one bean will be listening to the queue. Many listener-threads equal to max number of beans in pool.

  • Problem Deploying Oracle PDK Portlet to Oracle Application Server 9.0.4.0

I have a big issue trying to deploy a pdk portlet I have created in JDeveloper (10.1.2). The application is very simple, it consists of 2 JSP's (call them Select.jsp and Display.jsp) and 1 Java Class (Call it DoEverything.java).
The architecture of the system is VERY simple. The Select.jsp is a simple drop down list that is embedded in an html form, with the options in the drop down populated by a method call from DoEverything.java. Once the user selects an option and hits submit, he is sent to the Display.jsp, which is a simple html table that is populated by another method call from DoEverything.java. (Basically the whole system is a simple "view" of a given table in a DB based on the option selected in Select.jsp).
The system works perfect in JDeveloper, where I created it using the Oracle PDK Java Portlet wizard. However I'm running into a problem when I try and take it over to the Application Server. The main documentation I have been following is the: Oracle® Application Server Portal Developer's Guide and in particular the section 6.6.2.4.1 Creating a Connection to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE where it explains how to connect to the App. Server. The line "The steps that follow describe the procedure for deploying to a standalone instance of Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE. For information about deploying to a full Oracle Application Server instance, please refer to the Oracle JDeveloper online Help system." is the one that is bothering me the most as I am trying to deploy to a full instance of the Oracle Application Server, but I cannot find anywhere that walks me through this in the online JDeveloper help.
Anyway, currently we ftp the appropriate JSP's, Java Class, provider.xml and provider properties files to their respective directories on the Application Server, register the provider and reboot the Http Server. (This has worked before except for the fact that when the user selected an option from the Select.jsp and the request was then sent over to the Display.jsp based on the form action the Display.jsp wasn't recognized. We figured the provider.xml file needed to be edited in this case in order to know where Display.jsp was being kept). In any event nothing seems to be working at the moment and my main concern is that it maybe we should be deploying as EAR/WAR (both of which I'm not super familiar and my second main concern is that it seems most people use JavaBeans and Struts and all sorts of different API's whereas here I just have a fairly simple Java Class back end that connects to the database and creates an object based on the attributes contained in the database (1 object for 1 unique row in the DB) and I want to be sure that the way I have developed this should still work with the Oracle AS. I'm hoping its just a matter of getting the directory structure straightened out and editing the provider.xml file to include all the JSP's.
Sorry for the long post, but if you could address my two main concerns and possible give me or point me towards a good thorough walk through of deploying a simple system (oracle pdk java portlet) like I have developed to the App. Server it would be greatly appreciated !
    Thanks a lot.

Basically I started to develop this system inside Oracle AS and then when it came time to passing a request to a new page, it crapped out on me on the App. Server. So instead of trying to fix the problem there and then I continued to develop outside Portal and inside Jdeveloper. After a week or two once all my stuff worked perfectly I try and take it back into Portal but only the first JSP of all my Portlets would show up, because as soon as I would submit a form and the action directed me to a new page and Portal would be lost/confused. Obviously I shouldn't have done it that way but none the less...
So now I'm reading through the documentation you pointed me towards and it seems I have to qualify my parameters and then "attach" them to the url which the form will pass to the actioned page. I'm importing numerous classes (...urlUtils, etc) in order to qualify the parameters and then build this url without affecting any parameters currently present that my portlet does not own.
What I'm rambling towards here is all this separation of logic and presentation and the whole nine, implies different people can develop different parts of a 'system' mostly independant of one another...so in my situation I shouldn't in huge trouble yet, since underlying everything is a working system. My issue is with oracle and the App Server. If I take my code which works great outside of the App. Server and I fully qualify parameters and make sure my form actions are constructed using the UrlUtils in order to fully qualify them as well, and then I make sure page parameters are mapped to the proper portlet parameter values....should my system work on the App Server (assuming everything is done properly)....or am I still missing something.

If you are using OLite, you should use the OLite .NET provider:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14156_01/doc/B13788/html/toc.htm
Look at Chapter 6 and 11, which cover ADO.NET data access.

    Hi
Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
    In command prompt type
    svrmgrl and then press
    connect internal/oracle and then press
    startup force and then press
If you have any problem, then please email me, [email protected]

  • Starting application server from IDE

I'm trying to start the application server from an evaluation copy of
Visual Cafe 4.5 Enterprise Edition. When I choose Project -> Start
Application Server from the menu, a window briefly opens with "Start
Application Server" as its title and a logo of a spinning W. After
the W spins about one time the window close, with no error message
    reported.
I would like to know what I should do in order to start the
application server (A developer's license of WebLogic is included)
    from the IDE.

    Look at the weblogic.log file
    (%BEA_HOME%\wlserver6.0\config\mydomain\logs\weblogic.log) to see if
there are any error messages printed there. If not, it is probably a
license issue in that the license.bea file must be in the CLASSPATH used
    to start the app server.

  • Fate of Oracle Application Server? Is it going to be obsolete?

    Hi all,
What is the fate of Oracle Application Server? Is Oracle going to dump or obsolete it ? Or it will coexist along with WebLogic?
    Many thanks.
    Omer

Oracle Application Server is a suit of products which includes Oracle HTTP Server, Web Cache, Discoverer, Forms & Reports, Portal, SOA, OiD etc. In the FMW11g release, the Java container (OC4J) has been replaced by the WebLogic engine. I would not say Oracle Application Server is obsoleted :-)

  • Compatibility between Oracle Developer suit and application server

    Hello
We are going to user oracle 10 to develop and deploy our application.
The tool that we were going to use are
    Developer Suite 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) and
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.2.0)
But i need to know whether this are compatible
Where can I find any documentation related to compatibilities between developer suit and application server ?
    May thanks in advance

    Hi Ana,
    Compatible version of IAS is
    10g Release 2 (10.1.2) or 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) with patch 1(10.1.2.1.0)
Also if u are using only forms and reports services there is a forms and reports standalone version is available. And hence u dont need to install infrastructre.
And this is a very compact product.
Even if you use forms 9i /developer suite 9i to develop the forms, when u compile them on IAS, it gets upgraded. There is not much diff between forms 9i and 10g
