Hi James,
Thanks for the reply. Yes i will lock all the users before we start with the downtime phase. But there is a problem in application server A1 and A2 that if you check in the dev_evt log, it states that

So is there any problem with it? or should i stop both A1 and A2 before start in downtime (uptime finished successfully)?

At the time that application server stops
I wish to run some tidying jobs, e.g. clearing records locks, temp files, at the time of application server stops. How is it possible to do it?
I know that to do some job at the server start time I just need to define an servlet at web.xml. How about at server stop time?You can add a shutdown hook to the VM which, will be executed when the VM is exited (System.exit) or a system-wide shutdown occurs. Of course, it won't be executed if the power goes out, but you get the picture.
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/java/lang/Runtime.html#addShutdownHook(java.lang.Thread)
Hope this helped,

HOW TO: Set up your application server to run BC4J
How To set up your application server to run BC4J.
INTRODUCTION
A running BC4J application is actually the combination of:
* Your own application files
* BC4J runtime libraries
In order to successfully run your BC4J application in local mode, the first requirement is
that your application server contains the necessary BC4J libraries.
This How To describes the steps required to ensure that you have a functional
BC4J runtime environment installed on your application server.
Oracle IAS 1.0.2 and Tomcat 3.1 will be used as examples.
THE BC4J RUNTIME LIBRARIES
Whatever application server you deploy to, the following libraries
are required in the following order to be in the classpath.
BC4J Libraries:
xmlparserv2.jar
jdev-rt.zip
jbojdbcpatch.zip
connectionmanager.zip
jbohtml.zip
jboimdomains.zip
ordim817.zip
ordvir817.zip
ordhttp.zip
jbomt.zip
jbodomorcl.zip
jboremote.zip
jndi.jar
jbodatum12.zip
These libraries can be found in <JDEV_HOME>/lib/
INSTALLING THE LIBRARIES ON IAS:
Installing the libraries is simply a matter of copying them to the
application server's filesystem and adding them to the classpath.
IAS's classpath can be modified by editing the file:
<IAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties
In this file you'll find the existing pre-installed BC4J libraries which
looks like this:
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\lib\ordvir817.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\lib\ordim817.zip
etc.
Note! These BC4J libraries correspond to JDeveloper 3.1.1.
In order to run JDev 3.2 based applications you will have to update these libraries
to JDeveloper 3.2 production.
Steps:
1. Copy (or FTP) the JDev 3.2 BC4J libraries from <JDEV_HOME>\lib to a NEW directory on the
appserver's filesystem called:
<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib
2. Modify the classpath by editing <IAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties.
Example: (modified classpath entries)
# New 3.2 BC4J Runtime libraries
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\xmlparserv2.jar
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jdev-rt.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbojdbcpatch.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\connectionmanager.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbohtml.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jboimdomains.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordim817.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordvir817.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordhttp.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbomt.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbodomorcl.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jboremote.zip
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jndi.jar
wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbodatum12.zip
Note: Make sure to remove or comment out the existing 3.1.1 BC4J library entries!
To see the changes, you must restart IAS and that's it, your IAS will be updated with
the JDev 3.2 BC4J libraries which allow you to run BC4J Data Tags among other
things!
INSTALLING THE LIBRARIES ON TOMCAT
As before, this process involves both the copying of the libraries
and modifying the classpath.
After copying the BC4J libraries to a path accessible from Tomcat,
you can modify Tomcat's classpath by editing it's startup script:
<TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\tomcat.bat (NT)
<TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\tomcat.sh (Unix)
Here is a portion of a modified tomcat.bat (on NT)
rem Add BC4J libraries
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\xmlparserv2.jar
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jdev-rt.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbojdbcpatch.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\connectionmanager.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbohtml.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jboimdomains.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\or dim817.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\ordvir817.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\ordhttp.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbomt.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbodomorcl.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jboremote.zip
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jndi.jar
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbodatum12.zip
rem Add Oracle JDBC library
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\classes12.zip
Note: I also added the Oracle JDBC library since Tomcat does not have it.
It is found at:
<JDEV_HOME>\jdbc\lib\oracle8.1.7\classes12.zip
And That's It!
When Tomcat is restarted using this script, the necessary BC4J libraries
will be in the classpath..
A follow up How To:"How To Deploy a BC4J JSP Application on IAS and Tomcat"
will be posted shortly!I copied the following files in jserv classpath
bc4jct.jar
bc4jctejb.jar
bc4jdomorcl.jar
bc4jhtml.jar
bc4jimdomains.jar
bc4jmt.jar
bc4jmtejb.jar
bc4juixtags.jar
collections.jar
datatags.jar
jdev-cm.jar
regexp.jar
share.jar
uix2.jar
cabo.war
classes12.jar
nls_charset12.jar
ordim.jar
ordhttp.jar
runtime12.jar
jdev-rt.jar
xmlparserv2.jar
bc4j_jclient_common.jar
webapp.war
I got this list from Jdev 9031 on-line help
I also copied the new DataTags.tld file to /webapp directory
When i run my jsp page i get this error..

In the JDK 1.3 APi docs, i found that TimerTask was introduced only in JDK 1.3
Does this mean that BC4J (in jdev 9031) will only work
with JDK 1.3 or later?
Thanks for your time.

Weblogic admin server stops running after a while
Hi,
we have a distributed environment 11.1.2. On the server where we have weblgic admin server running, it seems to stop running everytime I disconnect from the server. I end up starting it everytime I login to the server. How can I keep it running all the time?Doesn't it start as part of the 'start EPM' script?

Edited by: 784749 on Dec 22, 2010 2:14 PMI've never seen this and we've been running 8.1.5 for a while. Have you tried dumping threads to see what the admin server is doing? On UNIX, run 'kill -QUIT <admserv_pid>'. Can't remember if/how this can be done on Win32. I believe Console requests use the weblogic.admin.HTTP execute queue and it only has two threads. Could be that something is blocking those threads leading to this.
I would also look into why your admin server takes 2 minutes to discover your managed servers. That seems unseemly long to me. Mine takes a few seconds at most. Since the Console does cause the admin server to talk to the managed servers, these two things might be related. Maybe you've got some kind of network/DNS lag that could be eliminated. -
Deploye 9i reports on 10g application server and run report
Dear All
I am new to oracle application server.
We have application developed in oracle 9i developer suit (forms and reports).
I have deployed the forms on application server quit easily by configuring formsweb.cnfg file. I am using mmb file for menu and all the forms are attahed to it and running. I am facing proble in deploying and run the reports through menu i.e mmb file. Some one told me that it is better to run reports from forms. So i put the button on form and use the command of web.show_document and its URL in braces and define the key in cgdcmd.dat (i dont know the exact name of file).
Key was some thing like this :
reptest: abc/abc@orcl desttype = cache %*
and in url:
http://192.168.1.147:7779/reports/repservlt?reptest&..... d:\abd\reports\report.rdf
(i dont know exactly the url)
but any way, after that i run the form and press the button to call reports,...., browser does open and it shows a report template but not with the report data but with REP-ERROR. Error was i guess 52001 or 2. well the message of report error was. "reptest key cannot be found" / "reptest key is not defined".
while i have already define the key in above mention .DAT file. and after that i have restart the instance but still no use.
CAN ANY ONE HELP !, I AM IN GRAVE SITUATION OF EMERGENCY AS I HAVE TO CONFIGURE REPORTS ON MENEU TILL TOMORROW ANY HOW.
Thanks
Abdul Majid.There is a forms/reports only installation available and it is safe to use this. This is if you ONLY want to run forms and reports and don't need things like SSO

Use other application server to run Oracle generated web services
Hi all,
I am currently running an Oracle 9i database and application server (OC4J) and use WebservicesAssembler (JPublisher) to expose PL/SQL packages as web services to an external PDA application.
Is it possible to run the EAR files (the assembled web service) generated in this way on another type of application server? This question because I need to use Resin in a live environment.
If this is not possible, would there be a way to work around it? I mean by manually programming the web service against the PL/SQL package. And if so, has anybody tried that out before?
Are there other alternatives?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Regards,
Stijn LambertHello,
Which version of OracleAS/Web Service stack are you using?
If you are using a version prior to 10.1.3 the Web Service stack is proprietary and not portable.
JAX-RPC used in 10.1.3 is more portable but you have to be very careful about the way you create your deployment descriptor.
In a general manner you can always create pure JDBC/JPublisher clients and expose them using the Web Service that you want.

SAP2.WebIntelligenceProcessingServer Bussiness Obj Server Stop Running
The server 'SAP2.WebIntelligenceProcessingServer'stops running every a couple of days.
Our problem is that we cannot realize why the above is happening. We searched for an SAP note but could not find anyone relating to the problem described above.
As a result we would like to have your opinion on what is causing the server to stop running and how to overcome the problem.In our case this happens everyday. This is really a burning issue. We have reported this to SAP support and they advised us to upgrade the product version to BOXI3.1 SP2 which has a better memory management mechanism. But we are still facing the problem. what we have done is to have multiple webi processing servers and regularly monitoring them. Still no idea why this happens.

My sun java application server not run and give me error
hi master
sir i use
sun java system with studio creator but when i start deployment server
that give me this error
==================
The sun java system application server 8.2 could not start.
more information about the cause is in the server log file .
possible reasons include:
-Port conflicts. (use netstat -a to detect possible port numbers already used by the operating system.)
-Incorrect server configuration (domain.xml to be corrected muanually)
-Corrupted Deployed Application preventing the server to start.(this can be seen in the server.log file. in the case, domain.xml needs to be modified).

Data Server stops running after client disconnected
Hi All,
I run a simple data server vi on my SBRIO and access it from a client.
It works perfectly fine during the first connection but when i disconnect my client the server flag an error and i am not able to receive any data from it again even if i reconnect my client.
How do i make it to actively listen again every time it lost a connection from the client?
Attached is the simple data server from the examples.

Problem with clustering of oracle application server 10.1.3.1
Hi
I have clustered two instances of oracle application server 10.1.3.1 running on solaris.
Instance 1
<notification-server interface="ipv4">
<port local="6100" remote="6200" request="6003"/>
<ssl enabled="true" wallet-file="$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/ssl.wlt/default"/>
<topology>
<nodes list="10.x.x.1:6201"/>
</topology>
</notification-server>
Instance 2
<notification-server interface="ipv4">
<port local="6101" remote="6201" request="6004"/>
<ssl enabled="true" wallet-file="$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/ssl.wlt/default"/>
<topology>
<nodes list="10.x.x.2:6200"/>
</topology>
</notification-server>
But when i log on to enterprise manager i get the following message on top of the page:
You have more than one instance of the Application Server Control application running in this cluster. This is not a recommended configuration and could lead to unexpected problems. Please stop the additional instances of Application Server Control or disable routing to these instances.
When i click on one of the instances, i get the session expired error.
what is the problem behind this?
regards,In the doc, it states that you should only ever have one active instance of application server control running in a cluster at a time -- ASC was not designed to operate as a session sharing application, so your session state is specific to one instance. If for some reason you were directed to the ASC application on the other instance, you get errors.
You can use the OC4J admin_client.jar utility or the opmnctl command to shut down the ascontrol application in one of the instances.

Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 Application Server
I'm trying to get the JSE8 Application Server to run as a service. I've read other forum articles and none of them really answered my question. So, I tried to implement the JSE8 server via the JavaServiceWrapper approach (and, I was successful). The only problem is that when I log on and then log off the computer running the application server, the application server stops.
So, I have several questions. One is, "why does the application server stop when it detects a user logoff, especially if the user it was started under wasn't even the one logging off?"
The second question is where is the documentation mentioned in other e-mails regarding how to set up the JSE8 server as a service per Sun's guidelines (I can't find it anywhere; a web link would be most helpful here).
Finally, is Sun planning on changing this so the JSE8 application server runs as a "real" service to make deployment much easier in a Windows environment (like version 7 did)?From what I can tell about the Java EE 5 SDK beta is that it still requires the SC.EXE method of installating a windows service. I got the "JavaServiceWrapper" method to work (well, not perfectly, but it works thanks to the hint provided by the first respondent (using the -Xrs switch in the JVM on the Application server). Then, I created a JSE8Server.conf file, as required by the JavaServiceWrapper (from http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org). Here's the conf file as I wrote it (note that this is all hard-coded based on install directories, etc.) But, it does allow you to point to a specific JVM (see wrapper.java.command line) and does allow anyone to log on and off the Windows system without shutting down the application server (domain).
The only problem with this is that that java service basically runs to start the service and then dies. The application server is then spawned on new disassociated Process IDs; so, without writing some more code to periodically ask the application server if he's "up", there is no automatic restart capability...at least from the service's span of control.

I'm running this application server on Windows XP, like I said, I was working with NetBeans and suddenly, the AS stop working.. I did not delete anything, I did not move anything either.
Please, does any of you have any ideas of how can I fix this issue?
Best regards!You may try this soultion. I fixed this in my Window 2000 machine(Application Server 8) by:
1. Edit domain.xml($DEFAULT_DOAMIN/config)
2. Update the port="4702" for http-listener tag, and change to something else(e.g. 4802).
3. Save it
4. Make sure the Application Server is shut down.
5. Start the Application Server.
Hope it helps!
