Any webapp can be implemented using JSF.

    Hello Group,
    I am a building a new web application using JSF and AJAX. Planning to use Myfaces Tomahawk, Dojo for Ajax, Hibernate, Spring,Eclipse IDE and Jetty Server.Can some one please suggest me will this be a right one for
    building complex UI and will it support for using the jsf features and would like to know any other free open
    source framework, ide, tools which support the best way for an agile project..?. There is restriction like i have to use java1.4

    Hello Friends,
    I am also in the same situation.
    I am a building a new web application using JSF and AJAX.
    Requirement is I need to use IBM version of DOJO and JSF but I need to develop the whole application using Eclipse 3.3,2 and Tomcat 5.5.
    With IBM version of DOJO and JSF, will Eclipse and Tomcat help to speed up the development or do you suggest me to go for Rational Application Developer and WebSphere Application Server.
    If I need to go with RAD and WAS, then I am new to RAD and WAS, is it easy to use RAD and WAS for this kind of application and implement web applicaiton fast.
    Any feedback will be great help.Those don't sound like requirements of the system to me. They sound more like someone wants to improve their CV/resume
    From what I've read recently, if it's just fast you want, look at Ruby on Rails

  • Building mysql database driven application using JSF

    hello
    i have to build a JSF application that uses a connection with a MySql database
    first the user fills in a booking form, then he clicks on the button submit to save his operation
    where should i place the code to connect with the database?
    i mean the following:
    DataSource ds=(DataSource) new InitialContext().lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/DreamsBeachDB");
    Connection c= ds.getConnection();
    Statement st = c.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    String req="insert into  ...";
    +int exec = st.executeUpdate(req);
    should it be in a method of the managed bean or in a ActionListener class?
    in the first case where is the controller of the MVC2 architecture?
    in the second case how can i retrieve the values of the managed bean?
    thank you for answering

    You should use a persistence framework like Hibernate or EJB 3.

  • How to design a web based leave management application  using jsf n Spring

    I'm a beginner for spring and jsf technology. I have a requirement to design web based leave management module using jsf and spring. Im confused in the design phase itself and not clearly knowing how to classify the classes. I need to understand clearly on how to do class design, and wanted to use MVC design patterns. As i know jsf itself is MVC but, as i want to use spring, i need to have some kind of model files and bean files.
    I'm clear about the following 3 classes.
    Applicant
    Approver
    Leave
    this will be like applicant will apply for leave and approvar when he logs he will see list of applied leaves and he will approve / reject the same by selecting one or more rows from datatable.
    Please guide me on designing this or gimme some link where i can read about designing java classes for web based applications.
    Thanks for your time and help.

  • Deploy web applications using JSF 1.2  or JSF 2.0 to WLS 10.3.5

    Hello,
    We have ADF web applications developed with JDeveloper 11.1.1 (using JSF 1.2 and JSTL 1.1)
    deployed on WebLogic server 10.3.4.
    Our department plans to :
    1. upgrade to WebLogic server 10.3.5 with the ADF Runtime 11.1.2.0.
    and
    2. develop new ADF web applications using JDeveloper 11.1.2 (using JSF 2.0 and JSTL 1.2)
    My 2 questions are the following:
    1. Can we deploy all JSF 1.2, JSF 2.0, JSTL 1.1, and JSTL1.2 WAR files on the
    WebLogic server 10.3.5 with the ADF Run-time 11.1.2.0.
    2. Can we deploy existing ADF web applications developed with JDeveloper 11.1.1 (using JSF 1.2 ,JSTL 1.1)
    and new ADF web applications using JDeveloper 11.1.2 (using JSF 2.0 and JSTL 1.2) to the WebLogic server 10.3.5 with the ADF Runtime 11.1.2.0
    Any insights will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    1) That should work
    2) old adf app (developed with jdve 11.1.1.x.0) need to be migrated to jdev 11.1.2
    You can also check out my blog entry about the jdev wls versions here http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/jdeveloper-versions-vs-weblogic-server-versions

    Please help me in configuring JSF 1.2.

    If you are new to JSF, then I'd try and simplify the environment in which you are working as the first step to achieving a successful outcome.
    JSF 1.2 is a certified and well tested component of WLS, so we know it works. I'm not sure of the effect of all those additional modules you are adding in there -- it appears as if you have gotten a Faces implementation instantiated, but there could be some form of version difference/conflict since it can't find a method its looking for.
    Using Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11115.html) you can build yourself out a pretty simple JSF application to get started from and deploy it to a WLS server. This would remove all the additional libraries you currently have, provide you with a bundled applicaton to deploy and give you a pretty good environment from which you can learn and experiment with JSF.

    Swing is GUI library for use in desktop applications.
    JSF is a web application framework which runs on an application server and is accessed by clients via web browsers.
    To fully understand what you have done, try accessing your application from a different machine than the server.
    To answer your question, don't invoke System.exit() if you would like the process to continue. But that is the least of your problems.

    Maybe your web.xml is wrong. Doublecheck it.

  • [JSF 1.2 and 2.0/Internationalization] How to propagate the Locale to the entire application

    Hi,
    do you know how to internationalize an application in a dynamic way in JSF 1.2 ?
    I created 2 files msg_fr.properties ( language by default, french) and msg_en.properties ( english)
    Then I wrote a methode changeLanguage() in a Managed Bean . This method allows me to switcher the language in the first page of the application.
    This method is called in a tag <h:commandLink>
    public void changeLanguage() {
            FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            // I test a parameter (currentLanguage) and I switch in consequence
           context.getViewRoot().setLocale(Locale.ENGLISH);
           //or    context.getViewRoot().setLocale(Locale.FRENCH);
           context.getApplication().setDefaultLocale(context.getViewRoot().getLocale()); I have of course modified the file faces-config.xml.
    This WORKS but for the current page only. The Locale is not propagated to the next pages of the application.
    The Locale by default of my browser is English and so the next pages are always in English, even if i switch the first page to French.
    Do you know how to propagate this Locale to all the pages of the application in JSF 1.2 ?
    Also, has internationalization been improved in JSF 2.0 ?
    thanks

    The f:view has a 'locale' attribute. You should make use of it. Feed it with a property of a session scoped bean which you could control/change using for example some language dropdown menu or a request parameter or pathinfo. There is no need to traverse the FacesContext and UIViewRoot yourself.
    For more about i18n in JSF, please consult the Sun JSF specification and the Sun Java EE tutorial.

  • Does JSF work on Websphere Application Server?

    Hi,
    I know that Websphere Studio 5.1.2 is JSF 1.0 ready. Is Websphere Application Server JSF ready? If yes, then which version of application server supports JSF 1.0?
    Thanks in advance
    -Nimmi

    yeah, jsf works on websphere.
    I have a query.
    i am trying to use faces component File Upload on a jsp page . When i drag and drop this component on the jsp page and try to run the faces portlet on the test server, the page comes up but many errors are displayed on the console .
    the errors are like :
    OSEListenerDi E PLGN0021E: Servlet Request Processor Exception: Virtual Host/WebGroup Not Found : The web group /.scr/.ibmjsfres/img/1x1.gif has not been defined

    I am not able to figure out whats wrong with this.
    the portlet that i have developed works fine except this File upload.
    i.e the other jsp pages display data from the database and other stuff.
    my first query is: does jsf support File upload on websphere?
    i think it should as it provides File Upload component in the palette.
    How to get rid of the above mentioned errors?
    i think it has to do something with server settings as the error is "virtual host/web group not found".
    has anyone come across this problem?
    plz help.
    Thanx in advance.

  • How to Deploy Mysql database with JSF Application

    hi,
    I have developed web application using JSF which uses a MySQL as Database.The server is localhost, database name is database_123(or watever!), so everything works fine...now this web application is something which i need to run on other computers as well....so do i have to install mySQL server to the computer from which the war file is deployed? if i don't want to install mysql at any computer, then how can i do?
    Plz help me! and if possible please tell me or post a article.
    Thanx in advance
    jsfgeeks

    This is what I am trying to figure out what is the best way. I am not worrying about making the SQL Server part of my install, we are going to leave that up to the client. I already have the script to create the DB, I am just trying to find the best way to deliver the data to the SQL Server. Like I said I have T-SQL scripts with insert statements but they end up being huge. I am looking at maybe using ApexSQL Script, as it can make an .exe file that creates the DB and installs the data, but it give me an out of memory error because we have so much data.
